I run a couple of bits of software on my phone which the licence is registered to the device id. When I change the rom on my phone the device id changes. Is there anyway I can stop the id changing? I have to contact my software provider each time to explain I have changed phones and can they supply a new licence on the new device id, I dont think they're going to keep doing this for free

Yeah they should actually. the guy who made this app is even giving out code to have it cooked in Roms.
My only question is even if they do cook this into roms, after a hard reset by the guy who steals the phone how will the settings be loaded again to the program? (such as the Number to SmS) hmm.. if they have a workaround on this too it will be so great!
for true tracking & protection and to be "cookable" it needs to be stupid on the device. By that I mean all it knows how to do is call home and report the phone IMEI & Location info. For example:
On hard reset it is set to run as a service in the background.
On New SIM Detection it calls home and report phone number & IMEI.
Server side has info for registered owener of the IMEI. Forwards the message to your e-mail.
If the phone was taken you can send SMS to the number to enable "active tracking" which sends location reports to home on a regular interval. All message sent home are forwarded to registered owner.
If a developer did this they might even be able to make a deal with providers so that the Call Home function is directly to the carriers and it gets built into the Stock Roms.
I use Sprite Terminator. Has the option to remove all your important data.
Usefull thread. but only missing small how to cook this into the touch diam/pro or HD ROM. The main problem is how to make that shortcut fo SMS

Whenever I dial codes like *101*2#, it keeps displaying "waiting". These were working before, but then it stopped and stacked at "waiting"
I tried in Nokia with same sim and it responded back with proper information.
I have installed different roms on my Hermes (SPV M3100) but it is not working.
I also confirmed from Mobile Operator company but they also said, it could be your mobile problem.
Any idea/help would be really appreciated.

These codes are not phone specific. Instead these are Mobile Operator specific.
Like *101*2# is to check my remaining SMS bundle.
*111# is to check my remaining balance in Prepaid account.

Wich dialer are you using????
default? i dont think so... if you are using another than the default, please open de advanced config... go to "phone" then in "skin" set "no"... "done" softreset coming then try again....
I can do it on my prepaid line too *133# it returns me my info correctly
I'm observing the behavior of these codes since some days and I've got to know that these codes are not working in some specific area, while working in another area.
In the area where these codes are not working, there are no mobile phone Jamming Devices or anything else. But this is highly security zone of the city.
But funny thing is, if I put same SIM in Nokia phone, these worked even in that high security area where my Orange SPV M3100 is not working. And this is where me and mobile operator are confused.

We have same problem on TAI rom 23047 build ( for HTC Hermes )

I notice when you go through the first time setup that there is a request by LG for them to log information about:
Your app use history
IMEI
Country
Language
Serial number
Screen resolution
OS
Reception strength
Location information
Service and connection status
..in order for them to help you with 'tech support and troubleshooting'. I remember that last time I did not agree to it and I did not appear to have any issues but wondered if anyone knew why and what exactly do they need it for? I'm guessing it's just a general data mine to build profiles on you. Bit cheeky as you buy the phone for your own use and not to give them free data for nothing in return.

Recently LG authorized service replaced my faulty Main Board. New mainbiard serial number starts from 606 .
I am unable to check phone informations in hidden menu *#*#info#*#* ( check attached screenshot please)
Another issue is much bigger because I am constantly losing GPS signal while using ENDOMONDO or even GOOGLE MAPS....
I have sent email to LG already but wondering if anyone here facing similar problems... ( just in case I have reseting my phone , or trying to find solutions but no joy. )

I don"t have any issues with my G4, but I also am unable to check that particular phone info screen. The other menu items work, though.
The app GPS Status will fix your GPS issues, just go to "Manage A-GPS state" in the top left menu and hit reset!
The best app for phone info is LG Phone Info
The phone information portion of *#*#info#*#* has not worked since MM was released.
