Decrypt Lineage (encrypted) SD card from Linux computer - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Hello, my phone is probably dead, in any case I can't boot and unlock the phone, is there a way to put the SD card in my linux computer and decrypt it from there (I have the unlocking lines drawing thing in mind) ? I've seen NO info about this on the web.
I have pretty good knowledge of linux so it's no issue for me the use obscure tools from wherever/whoever.
Thanks for any info about this !

I think, you have no chance with an adopted encrypted storage. Especially if you cant get the phine to eject the sd savely. A shutdown does not eject.

[Q] phone does not connect to PC via USB

[SOLVED] : using dropbox now for file transfer...
After I installed the latest build of stock XDAndriod on my Rhodium, it does not connect to my PC (win-XP) using USB port. I have tried multiple times to reset my phone and re-flash my winmo with no help.
My computer does not detect a USB device at all when I connect my phone when in Android. When I plug in my phone, nothing happens. But my phone does begin charging from the USB port and does detect that is plugged in to a power source.
How do I get my PC to recognize my phone?
Phone details:
H/w : standard AT&T tilt2
Winmo : JackOS build Aug/19
XDAndroid version - [MJG]Rhod.2.2Froyo.083010.rar
Thanks,
Dhanvi
PS: I did check the thread here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=641444&highlight=USB+problems and that hasn't solved my problem.
If you read the port status, USB data connections are not currently supported. Only charging is supported via USB.
Thanks for that pience of info, but I do not see anything saying USB on the project development page. Is there some other page that I should be looking at too?
If that is indeed the case, then how do I transfer stuff over from my PC to my SD card when in andriod ? Is there any other method?
Thanks.

Great Idea but waiting for more help
Hey Fist post here about the xAndroid. I have to say this rocks!! First time I got it up I said to myself this is how a phone is supposed to run.
To the questions do any of you know if this USB connection is going to be fixed anytime soon sine I would really like to see if you can connect Google App Inventor to the phone while on this great mod.
Thanks

By far the simplest way to get it done.
I went for installing ADB and droid explorer on my pc. It works, but I have much less hair now.
with the current way xdandroid is built, I can't see it being probable that usb mode will ever work (could be wrong, so feel free to correct me).
i.e. currently we have a FAT partition on the SD card and we loopback mount files on it to act as the android system and data file systems, and the fat can then act as a normal SD card.
because of this, it can't expose the FAT partition to anyone outside of the OS instance (i.e. 2 OS's will be writing to the FAT table (redundant I know) independently and can clobber each other.
On the other hand, I think the way the cyanogenmod port works, by partitioning the SD card into multiple partitions to hold the different sets of data (though not sure it takes it all the way), is an approach that could be made to work for usb access, if separate partitions would be made for the system and data file systems on the SD card and a third partition just used for the FAT FS. This way, android can unmount the FAT partition only (nothing else depending on it) and let it be accessed by whatever machine the device is attached to over usb.
there's a reason its not done this way currently as its much harder to manage and continuously update.
just my 2 cents.
Hm, does this also mean, you can not use tools like MyPhoneExplorer (Outlloksync via UBS with Android phones) due to absence of data over USB? Seems like a decent app, but it does not see my TYTN over USB, says no conenction. I also note, Windows XP is trying to install an 'Android Phone' driver when I connect the TYTN to the Laptop. Is this all somehow related?
Oddly, my phone decides to turn on USB after it's been sitting plugged in for a time, which exceeds an hour. It's like it checks for USB connectivity at some long interval.

With Android on my wife's HD2 (booting from Windows via Haret.exe) USB mass storage mode works fine, so it's definitely doable.

No clue how - when you're in WinMo, what happens when you plug in your phone and select to use it as a disk drive? It unmounts the SD in WinMo and mounts it on your PC. Same thing would happen in Android, but when the card can't be unmounted - as Android is running off of it.

I've been told it's flaky on the HD2 and not recommended for use anyways. Still not sure how it works tho.
We won't have true SD card access (USB mass storage) until Android is flashed onto our devices. Until then, true USB mass storage will NOT work.
In the meantime, there's ADB. Perhaps the HD2 guys hacked something up based on ADB, who knows.

So I was in the same boat you are in. Nothing could read the card except for my Nokia n97 mini. It recognized the card as "locked" and prompted for a password. I bypassed the prompt and went to the file manager. From there it let me format the card and it is back to normal. See, Symbian is good for something after all!
PS: I tried the same process with an E71 and had the same successful results. All recent Symbian phones should work as it appears they can handle the encryption and password. The card is now happily back in my HTC EVO.

Has noone tried a low level format utility? I once "bricked" a USB flash drive and fixed it with a low level format utility. Instead of reading file partitions and the like it just accesses the raw disk and 0s it out. From there you should be able to reformat it with the normal windows formatting tools.

Pretty sure this is the one I used to recover a "dead" flash drive previously.

Excuse my ignorance, but would this be used to format a MicroSD card that has been "bricked" by using it in a Samsung Focus, or to make a MicroSD card usable in a Samsung Focus?

Anyone actually tried the damn disk manager in Windows (i.e. diskmgmt.msc)? You know, before one runs out downloading esoteric tools, why not try the built-in stuff? I'd be surprised if this is anything beyond WP7 overwriting the MBR with its own crap. (The MBR keeps the partition table, too, and you aren't required to have one if your operating system uses an alternate way and/or doesn't need to boot from it).

You have to define "the system don't see the card." Like in device manager, is anything there? Just because it doesn't show up as a drive doesn't mean squat.
in mmc computer management the card does not appear AT ALL.
in device management, the card shows all "-" under volumes.
not sure how i can describe this in more detail, its simply as if i never plugged it in.

I can't tell you exact (I can't test it at this moment , need a good screwdriver) , but what I understand is that device manager isn't seeing .
I did read somewhere that the os sees the card as write protected and 0 GB .

WP7 Mango SD card still locked but made visible in Windows with a trick

Ok I didn't find this info anywhere online yet. Perhaps this can help someone to finally find a way to recover locked SD card without Nokia phone or other known, but sometimes unavailable means.
I have a locked 8GB SD card by Mango.
It is not visible in Windows, BUT - if I leave SD card in my laptop and then go to device manager and uninstall my SD card reader, and then click on Scan for hardware changes, it will hang for a minute or two (something that is normally a second or two) and then it will find the reader, install the driver and the SD card will be visible! The point is to be patient. Seems that Windows can access the SD card, but it needs like 10 times more time to do it.
I was happy at first, but then I realized it is still a tough case.
I tried MiniTool Partition Wizard and it actually sees the card marking it (Bad Disk). The size is correct. It can even scan for partitions and then reports two that can be deleted, but I don't believe it removed them. Once I even could make a 100MB partition! But it didn't repair the whole SD card. Afterwards I tried some other methods, deleted SD MBR in MagLDR and lost that partition.
Disk manager in windows sees the device with Unalocated space and if I try to make a new partition it starts and then says there was a CRC check error. It also kind of hangs, but eventually responds and sees the device.
Windows needs like 5 minutes to show dialog for formating the SD card. It says unknown size, and finally says that it cannot format.
HD Low format tool sees the device and if you start the Format, it will start and report many errors but will finally end. I didn't see any improvements - SD is still locked.
So tomorrow I will probably find someone with a Nokia at work, but perhaps someone gets lucky and finds a way to fix it within Windows by being essentially patient while Windows is accessing it.
And yes: Olympus PEN, Canon Ixus 70 and G10 cannot format it.
Cheers,
Ivan

It's not Mango specific. It happens with all versions of Windows Phone.
Mango locked my SD card in a way it was not visible at all. Not even a 200MB partition. The only way (and I tried everything based on my original post) was Nokia XpressMusic. It formatted it in like 5 secs. I didn't even bother to reformat it, but just plugged it in my HD2 and installed HD2O mango ROM. It works like before. No issues whatsoever.
Id like to mention its fairly trivial to make any usb mountable card usable (you know, how the REST OF THE WORLD USES SDCARDS) with linux or unix:
Find the device mount point and:
dd if=/dev/zero of=/dev/sdc1 bs=1M count=yourcardsizeinMb
Note, this overwrites any data on the card, but then formatting and actually using the card is possible again. Ms dropped the ball so hard on this.
Thanks, I may try it next time I lock my card!

No, not at all (it's only for converted to WP7 HD2s). The only one solution for now - Nokia's smartphones.
You can use your Windows phone 7 device to unlock your locked SD cards.
See here:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1337781
you will need to adapt to your device so use the right rom from XBmod for your device or a rom that works on your device that supports cab sender.
No need to feck about with a nokia device.

Ok so i had this issue too and bought another sd card for nothing.
If your card is locked.....Flash a 7004 rom that you can push cabs into it. Push the unlock sd cab and when installed find it in apps and unlock the SD. Take it out and format that sucka with easeus. Thats it. you can use the micro sd again.
With this trick i took out 16gb SD from broken HTC surround and popped it into HD2
i love my HD2. wp7 UltraFruit rom.

e4gt bootable iso?

can the et4g be a bootable iso for windows 7?
Doubt it. The phone won't recognize he sdcard with the an ISO written to it and I don't think you could mount it if the phone doesn't recognize it. And on top of that it might be difficult to get the BIOS to see it as a boot able device.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using Tapatalk
No. Wrong and incompatible hardware on the computer side. The software for the phone was written and compiled specifically for this phone and it's associated hardware.
The way the question is worded makes no sense. You want the e4gt to be a bootable ISO? Whaaaa?

And the answer to that is no, because if you made your sdcard a bootable disk for win7 there would be no way for the computer to read it from the phone without being mounted, and once you try mount the sdcard the phone will require it to be formatted otherwise it won't let you mount it as a storage device.

If you can create the drivers for the software to work with the hardware, then go for it.

You would be mounting the phone as a usb storage device. The microsd card would be formatted and flagged bootable. Modern motherboard support booting from flash drives... i dunno last 8 or more years now?
Windows 7 has a tool for making bootable flash drives. Micro SD cards can have the boot flag on their MBR's set to bootable. The question is does the E4GT (on GB) allow for MBR access in mass storage. I can actually check that since I have a program I wrote for injecting code past the MBR it needs to read it. The next question is how does the phone represent the storage to the computer? If its not in a valid manner then the answer goes back to no because the motherboard may not wish to boot from it.
Ive created Bootable SD cards to boot through an SD card reader to flash firmware to video cards, its not much different and with windows 7 being usb drive bootable using a utility its only a question of this particular phone.

He asked if it can be a bootable iso for windows 7. One word corrected I am pretty sure if he asked if he can use it as a bootable flash device for windows 7 installation.
Which as I explained in my post is plausible. Many phones can do it and doing it with a regular old sd card over a reader on a motherboard with usb boot support is 100% normal. Given the lack of mass storage mount in ICS I would definitely want to be on Gingerbread before I even tried it.
I have done this with my old psp once, had to restore a friends computer which had a dead dvd drive and no usb drive around so formatted the sony memory stick on the psp. High chances of it working I don't see why not.

[Q] Security Lock Bypass?

I'd like to start by saying I checked but couldn't find any similar threads to this issue I've been facing with my S3. I believe it to be a global issue since samsung did away with needing drivers to mount internal and external storage on their phones to just having the device showing up as a media device to simplify the user experience.
My question is that short of encrypting the phone and SD card (for those of us who don't have any incriminating or secret information on our phones but want at least a screen-lock's level of security), is there a way to prevent your phone from automatically attaching to any computer it's plugged into via internal storage and SD? Otherwise, I don't see a point in using a screen lock. Anyone can steal this phone, plug it into a computer, and have full access to all of your files.
Again please redirect this post if a thread currently exists. Such a security hole makes me nervous, granted I am rooted and use avast's defense module to safeguard a lost phone predicament. Thank you everyone!
With PIN lock, I can't access the contents of the int/ex SD card until I unlock the phone once.
Check your phone settings again. When my phone is locked (pin/face/etc), if I were to plug it into a PC, it detects the device but does NOT allow access to internal memory or SD card.
Yeah, when I connect via usb to my computer i have to drag the notification bar down and click on mount usb. When the screen is licked obviously you can't do that until you unlock it.
