The wifi icon in my Quick Settings bar is always grey at the moment (usually indicating the wifi is turned off). If I tap on it, it turns blue for a few seconds, then goes back to grey. If I tap and hold the icon it says that I am connected to my home wifi.
The issue also seems to affect my podcast app (PocketCasts). If I try to download a podcast it tells me that "You're not on wi-fi", and tells me that my data plan will be used. I have mobile data disabled.
I do appear to have a wifi connection, but the phone seems to be advertising the fact that it is not turned on for some reason.
Any idea how I can fix this?
I'm running build number QPN30.33.40 (I have checked, and there are no software updates available).

Hi all,
Can anyone enlighten me about this question?
Whenever I switch on my touch screen (press the power button and slide down the bar) I see from the 3G icon that there is some data activity. In particular, I first see the arrow up, then it switches from 3G to H, then a few seconds of arrow down, and then back to 3G idle.
Has anyone with a rooted phone tried to look at it with androshark (or any other monitoring tool)?
Note that this happens also with all the background data options disabled (including wireless location, accounts sync, always on mobile data, etc).
Clearly, if I switch off mobile networks completely (from the setting or from the power widget), it doesn't happen.
I am just curious of what, how much, (and whereto) is transmitted and received.
Best,
wally
Anyone else get this? Can you try please?
If I start up the GPS from settings (or the power widget) I don't get the little notification icon (the one that looks like a satellite dish) on the bar at the top of the home screen (or it only appears for a second then goes.)
However, if GPS is enabled and I start up maps, navigation or something like Wikitude, then the notification does display (and the app instantly gives me my location.)
Was it always so? I have a memory that under 2.1 when turned on, it displayed the notification icon when no relevant app was used and indeed of it telling me no GPS lock as I was indoors? So has it gone from a "Select On" state (in which it was enabled and notification was shown even if no app requiring it was enabled) to a sort of "background mode" in which it only shows the notification (and thus actually works?) if an app which requires it is used?
But aren't there uses for location that aren't to do with actual apps?
Someone? Press that button and tell me if the notification flag shows if you aren't in an app.
The notification only comes up if an app is requesting a location.
This was the same in 2.1 although most of the time when you start the gps, it's from within the app rather than in settings so the location is requested immediately.
Hi,
as far as I remember it was like this on 2.1, too.
And I think it's right, you activate GPS and when it's actually used you get notified.
Hi,
This might be a dumb question.
On normal situation with Android phone:
When I turn on my device from sleep, I could not see the 3G icon ... Only the signal strength. Then after couple of seconds, the 3G icon came up.
My phone works like this since I have it.
My question, does this mean the 3G data is also sleep when the phone sleep? Because when I wake it up, the 3G icon does not immediately come back.
Thanks.
Yes, it does disconnect after a period of inactivity (if you look at the android logs) when the phone is in sleep mode. There is a setting which you may not have enabled. it goes on the lines of 'Enable always on mobile data' under wireless and network options.
However if the phone needs to connect to the net, then i think it will re-connect in that time period. This is what you see when the 3G icon appears after a few seconds on wake up. I have always seen the phone to do this.
Allright,
I was thinking if this kind of app is really necessary:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7547017
But, I guess, it is useful because during the sleep mode, some app might require internet access (email sync for example).
Maybe....The only reason i say this is that the OS will start a new network connection in the background even when the phone is sleeping...thats how your emails are sync'd and so is everything else...
Mobile data button state doesn't show actual state is mobile data enabled or disabled.
When pressed very shortly it stays off and data icon (left of signal indicator) lit up and data is enabled. On second press data icon dissapears and data is disabled but power widget button is then lit up. This is just one cycle, if pressed again it could happen that state is corresponding to data state or not, no rules.
When pressed longer it sometimes behaves normally, but it is hard to get it how long it should be pressed, sometimes it is short and it is like I wrote above, and sometimes I trigger widget homescreen options.
It isn't functional bug but it is annoying. Any ideas for solution?
Not really
It's not a real bug. Actually my girlfriend's (not jailbreaked) iPhone does the same. When i turn data of and on it sometimes lag or does not understand the command. Have to try again, reboot.
I like to press the icon harder, firm (smth. like that). Because i keep my phone on 2G i usually switch that one as well. Usually i turn 2g> 3G wait fot the change to to happen than press the mobile data and wait. << I do this from the notification bar. You can get the 2g>3G widget from the market. It will send you to the Network setting with one click. you just have to get used to it.
With Widgetzoid you can create all kinds of toggles and indicators. Including a mobile data one.
I dont think I've used mobile data more than to test that works since I installed this a little over a week ago.
(ETA: Not using CM7 (yet), but the plain unrooted Froyo my phone came with. Don't think it matters in this case.)
Thanks bro! Widgezoid is superb! It has all I need and more.
After playing for some time with power widget I found that if state of mobile data isn't displayed correctly in widget if I for example switch GPS on or off it refreshes mobile data button so it displays right state. So it must be that it is refreshing bug on button press.
But that isn't important now when I have Widgezoid
On random occasion, all things being equal, the phone works perfectly for a couple days then on some other days it boots up, gets signal as normal (signal bars, voice mail indicator & 3g arrows show) then immediately after the 1st media scan, radio icons disappear (signal bars, voice mail indicator) and a circle with a line through it appears as is in flight mode also indicated via check mark that doesn't go away in settings - wireless menu , though the flight airplane mode icon doesn't show.
No matter how many times I try to remove flight mode check mark, the radios don't come on and it persists checked.
My phone is rooted, this hasn't happened after any particular new app nor update since I hardly use anything besides gmail and whatsapp.
How can I fix this?
