Hi guys,
as I am particularly interested in ROMs that are without Google, I was wondering if there is a list about this. I use Lineage OS 17.1 on my Redmi Note 8 right now.
What google-free ROMs do you guys use?
There are many roms that come without gapps called vanilla roms. Some of them are..
* AOSP Extended
* Bliss Rom
* CrDroid
* MSM Xtended
* Pixel Experience
* Resurrection Remix etc...
I'm just interested to know why you are interested in ROMs that are without Google?
You use your own gapps or use without gapps?
I think life is better with Google! Because everything you want is synced and backed up and can be use everywhere you go.

Bliss Rom + CrDroid + MSM Xtended has call log bug
Resurrection Remix has call log bug and no legacy app support
Pixel Experience has gapps and if you remove them call record is not present and also does not support old apps scaling ...
AospExtended and superior os are the best

gapps use too much ram and consume lot of battery and internet
they are tracking you ,logging your activities ,long story short : the y are **** and any phone runs super fast without them ...

Thanks for the views on each ROM. I noticed the last post on Superior talks about not being able to connect on VPN - did you ever try this?
Agree with your comments on Gapps. Presume Superior is ok to run with microG?

In your opinion how final is Aosp for everyday use as I have just read the developer saying he is giving it up?
I am not overly bothered about security patches.

Hey, RR maintainer here, I was reading your message about that RR doesn't have Legacy App support, lemme say that has that feature, about Call Log bug, I don't know what you mean with it.

Technically GAPPS are fantastic. But since you give up all your privacy - so no thanks. The hidden price is too high. I am going all FOSS (F-Droid etc.) and it is working nicely.
I installed Havoc OS / Bliss ROM / Paranoid Android (on another device) and they are full with GAPPS (!) so I was wondering - didn't know the 'Vanilla' Thing.

i did not try vpn on Superior ,i was on TG group of Superior but nobody mention it
anyway,if lot of people talk about it the dek will fix it
the 2 things that bothered me in Superior were :
-xposed module gravitybox" ram bar (always on top of QS even if u set it to bottom
-the X on signal bar when you disable data can't be hidden
about gapps on superior i saw dev recomand oppengapps on TG, i don't know what's best for it cuz i don't use gapps
AEX is the best rom hands down,me 2 i don't care about patches and it's still on my phone for a reason ...

i tested those 2
RROS-Q-8.5.7-20200812-ginkgo-Official Resurrection Remix call log full scr.lnk
RROS-Q-8.5.6-20200811-ginkgo-Unofficial (Resurrection Remix) call log full scr.lnk
and did not find any option
still not tested last one (RROS-Q-8.5.9-20200826-ginkgo-Official.zip),but as soon as i have free time i'll ...
call log bug is commun in custom roms and only few don't have it
it's when you call a number,you will not see it in recent calls until you relaunch the dialer
it's very bad for me,i use calls everyday everytime,and quiting dialer and launch it everytime is very annoying and waste of time ...

i just tested RROS 20200826 and i have some questions
-legacy app scaling is enabled by default for all apps ,no need to add them manually , so why did you include the option ? and is that related to build prop or systemUI ?
-smart pixel : will that make any differance ? (RN8 is IPS LCD, lot of people say it does not make any differance , and other even says it does more harm than good)
-the included recorder app record audio with 6kbps ,is there any way to make it 128 or 192kbps ?

For legacy apps you need to enable it and add manually your prefered apps, and its related to system framework.
About smart pixels, if im honest never used such option, wasn't needed for me.
Now about recorder app: Dont use LineageOS one, use the recorder that you can find in quick settings (you need to add it first).

Man ,i'm telling you , i already tried 3 and they work perfectly without any user config (which is great)
system framework ? so you cant mod a file or something to make it work on a rom that don't support it ?
(you have to build from the source ?)

Lineage recorder use X264 for encoding video (runs fast on every machine)
the built in "QS" recorder use X265 for encoding which need the codec to be installed and hardware acceleration to run smootly ...
But this is not a big deal , the real deal is the call log bug
did anyone find any solution ???

Is this built from source specifically for the Le 1S or is it just another modified pre-built ROM originally built for another device?
Also, a ROM built on the 3rd of December is pretty old, I'll have to look on some other sites to see if this is something that was announced elsewhere ages ago and not worth getting enthused about.
i request you to provide the sources.

Hmm, with the ROM in the quoted link, under Bluetooth the default device name showed as "Redmi Note 2" which suggests to me that this isn't built from source for this device but is a modified ROM built for the Redmi Note 2 which is rather disappointing. I would like to think that the LineageOS 14.1 ROM is truly being built from source for the 1S but I don't believe it for a moment.
At least this ROM image isn't full of Chinese garbage.

AEX (AOSP Extended) and other Official GSIs are the best Images You can get for now (No big Bugs). Only one unofficial GSI was running good for Me and that was Pixel Expierence from XDA. I really have to find a way to edit the Vendor Content of our XZPs to gain more Features and stuff Like that. There are just many things i miss on my Xperia which are available on My AMOLED Axon 7 after editing the Vendor/OEM Image manually with Root... But no Wonder, the OEM Images are directly from SONY... But i'm looking Forward. Treble is the best what happend to Android in all this Years

Same here in all Points. What a nice Gift to the Holidays My XZ Premium feels like a actual Device again. Think i'll get one for My GF too. The Prices are low atm and it's just a Solid Piece of Hardware combined with Treble. Was thinking about Xiaomi for her but the G8141 plays Out the Most actual Devices in the Price Range (~300€). Only real Upgrade for me could be a XZ3 but looks like that has to wait now...
Edit. Think the XZ Premium has the better Design and Speaker Layout. But damn, i would Like to have a 1440p OLED SONY ?
@OP
Could You add the Vendor Partition to the Wipe Menu ,and System and OEM/Vendor Options in the Image Flash Menu from TWRP? I have that Options on My Axon 7 (OKI Labs TWRP Mod from XDA). I'm also unsure if the AROMA TWRP Patch Out of this Forum is already included. The TWRP Versions we use is a bit older i think (3.1.xxxx).
Everything besides Bluetooth is working really Well. Performance is a lot better compared to My Axon 7 and more will be possible after playing around with the Vendor Content. Great Base to Play with!
Thanks again! I'll spent a Coffee next Year!
Just modified the source codes and complied it.
@Miustone how's the camera in our XZP with AEX? Is it still as 'grumpy' as it was on Oreo?
I remember you working on enhancing the camera for AOSP.

It is much better right now. Full Camera 2 API Support including RAW and with the right APP like Open Camera do You have full Control of everything. The Sleep Dead Bug is with AEX no problem btw. Just enable the Always on Display Option and it will never sleep. Battery is pretty good and i get over the whole day with LTE+, Wifi and 4hrs+ Display usage. The Treble Kernel is really good and with some fine tuning with Kernel Adiutor is everything even better
I'm playing right now with the Vendor Partition eg. the build.prop and gained already some nice optimizations like better responding Ok Google Commands and better Noise Reduction. I think there will come soon some good stuff to Treble on our Xperias :fingers-crossed:

MoKee OpenSource is based on the Google AOSP. We update our source code frequently to keep up with the latest development, and not forgetting to merge in special features of our own at the same time.
A small group of people from around the world who are interested in Android launched this project on the 12th of December 2012, and is committed to make this ROM better and better. Like most contributors of open source projects (Omni, CyanogenMod, Slim AOSPA etc), we are doing all these in our free time as our passion...
Since this project is open source, anyone interested can participate in the development (maintain new devices, contribute code etc). Newcomers are always welcomed!
Read here for developer application; with this, you can host your unofficial MoKee builds on our server!
Important information:
This thread is for official MoKee 9.0 builds for Xiaomi Mi Note 3. The following will not be supported here:
Custom kernels
Mods
Xposed
We don't support Xposed and any logcat which includes a Xposed module will be ignored. You're kindly invited to not report bugs if you:
Flashed a custom kernel
Installed or did mods from untrusted sources
Modified system files
Tips:
You need at least MIUI10 CN stable firmware, otherwise you'll get error 7 when installing the zip.
Installation:
First time flashing MoKee 9.0 on your device, or coming from another ROM?

No such issues but I'm on AEX PIE rom.
@dianlujitao
Hi, thanks for Mokee rom.
Nightly, everyday builds - where can I find what changed?
It will be nice to see in next builds:
More QS Tiles to add: screenshot, screen recording, reboot..,
Screen lock/unlock: face unlock - go to home screen(skip swipe).
Status bar: show clock & date.
KCal support into kernel.
Port of Miui Camera is possible? I think Stock Cam & GCam don't use two lenses.
Problems:
Auto brightness - it doesn't remember my preferences in a dark environment, it makes screen too dark. After screen off & on brightness is always set to minimum, not to my last.
Wireless display(ScreenCast) - doesn't work - force reboot SystemUi. All Pie custom roms have this bug.
Battery life:
10~15% for one hour sot, 2~3% for night(7~8 hours). WiFi, mobile data always ON.

kcal is redundant when we have livedisplay. Any miui property apps will never be included but you can always install on yourself.
Auto brightness issue seems to be an upstream bug, I'll take a deeper look later. EDIT: will be fixed in the next build
Miracast is currently not supported on MoKee, but "All Pie custom roms have this bug" is not true, on lineage 16.0 it works fine.

Thx, it's nice to know about it.
This is the best Pie rom so far, nice job on it Dian, I'm loving it. Here's my report:
I found some useful tools that are missing in this rom such as:
- Physical buttons customizations
- Recents multitasking Pie style (this is just my personal taste, the actual style is really horrible )
- Night display mode (I've read your answer about that but I still can't understand why automatic mode on live display doesn't work at night)
Things to fix:
- Whatsapp video calls (my video lags when I'm making a video call)
- Gpay and banking NFC payment (I know this should be something hard to fix but I wanted to report it anyway)
Thanks again Dian, if you need something to test you can ask me. Keep up this nice rom!
EDIT: Also, it would be nice to have floating notifications according to the theme (dark or white) instead of always white
EDIT N2: LiveDisplay seems working on automatic mode!

Yeah it is. I know, ROMs at early stage do have some bugs here n there, also FYI I don't ask u to fix everything At Once for now, dev. Fix them as u update it continuously is enough for us. U got our support!

Hi
It seems after 621, https://github.com/sonyxperiadev/bug_tracker/issues/621
SODP has fixed the issue
* Screen wont wake
* GCAM doesnt work
*Photos app freezes whole system
But I would say the Camera photo quality is very crap even if I use ported HDR+ RAW GCAM.
Everything is too bright though.
At least now you can use it on daily instead of "Screen wont wake".
Can you make a confirm and do updates?
Or actually I has build AOSP, but not sure if I can merge into Lineage OS.

I see... And, sir... could you point a way out for me to learn skills can get the things possible?
I often see people doing kernel mods, port features, create ROMs, writing magisk modules or magisk itself,
I hope I can be powerful, doing similar things, with people together, but when I step in Android bottom world, from a normal kind of people, became a programmer, I went a far way, but still far from things. And lose the way, I don't know what's the next step to go. Of course there are lots of business app dev tutorial out there, and I learn from them, in the end, one key point wasn't found in my heart... I just become a programmer, but not a hacker.
People always get great things from hackers.
For example, now we know Xperia has a unique system file structure, and cause custom recovery image are hard to make compare to other phones. Result in latest TWRP can't run properly. You have to use the old version and lack some things only available in latest.
Another thing is the SODP kernel doesn't have a color calibration feature. And a Lineage OS based on SODP kernel instead of close source kernel. E.G. Google Camer HDR plus & Night sight & SuperResZoom were require RAW capture to work which only availalbe in SODP.
I'm not wanting to just sit there and prayer for things automatically done. I think I need some specially guide on these topics.

Does it throttle less then on stock kernel and is there any way to install stock kernel? Because I want my phone to throttle when executing less demanding tasks. When I play games, I can manually disable it...

That is sad. If Sony had an inbuilt recorder like all other flagships, I'd just stay with temp root on Android 8. It had everything I needed except internal audio recording...

Do u know how to change the thermal engine, so that my CPU starts throttling at 53 ℃ ? I've tried using a program I had on Android 8, but on Android 10 it only limits the CPU frequency at 2.2 Ghz and it still doesn't throttle after that
