I purchased a Motorola Moto G power directly from the Google site and paid full price but every time I type in my bootloader unlock key it says my device is ineligible. Does it have to be a certain amount of days after I purchased it for it to be eligible? I have tried it numerous times and it just will not work. Can anyone please offer some advice? It's model number XT2041-4. I have had this device for at least a couple of months. Someone has some info to offer that would be great. Motorola hasn't even updated their page because the newest models it shows is the G7 series.

Do you type the key right? If so, some phones can't be unlocked, you have to wait to Motorola update the page. Do you put the right region page for your phone?

Yes I have went through at least 5 times and wrote down twice so I know the unlock key is right. It might be that I owe money still. I got on a deal for $150 that being hundred dollars off the regular price but then I hardly used it and money got tight so I canceled service trying to save money and my dumbass canceled it 7 days too early and I lost out on my promo discount of $100 so actually I still owe $96. That could be what's holding it back. And plus Motorola needs to update their page. I'll wait till that last payment comes out and then try it again. Actually I think the payment came out today.

I don't know that you owing Google Fi money would stop the unlock. I unlocked mine the day I got it, so there is no way for them to know if I'm going to live up to the contract or not.
Are you having trouble with the first part where you enter your code into Motorola's website or the second piece where you enter the code you got from the email into the fastboot command?
1. If it's the website, be sure you copy all of the lines ( I think it was 4) together into one line on the website. I copied all of it into Notepad and did a Ctrl + H to find and replace the "(bootloader) " at the begging of each line with nothing. Then I went through and deleted the line breaks to get one massive string. Entering that in got the site to work.
2. If you're having trouble when you send the unlock token via the fastboot command, there is a step missing from Motorola's website. On the phone go to Settings> About > Click the build number 7 times to enable developer options. Go to Developer Options> toggle on Enable OEM Unlocking > reboot back into the bootloader. Now the fastboot command will work.

After I get all four lines entered and then I go to the Motorola website that's when it says my device is not capable of being unlocked. And if you go to their page the newest phone they got is from the Moto G7 series and I have a Moto g power. So it's not even giving me an unlock token. I was sure it could be unlocked because it the unlocked model. It'll work on any carrier.

That is super strange. The Moto G Power from Google Fi should absolutely be unlockable. I did it with mine on Saturday. I see where you're talking about it only going up the the g7.

This may sound whack but trying the url for the Motorola site with any browser besides Chrome might fix it... Did mine. But still Motorola won't give me a code either.
When I first got my G7 power Canadian retail version, I went to one of the motorolla sites to unlock it and I got the same error and I did not understand why. Then I found a second motorolla site (i just forgot if first I went to a global one and then their main one or vice-versa) but if you can find another site that offers the same thing try that, because when I did it on that second motorolla page which looked pretty much the same although slightly different it then worked.
So if you've been trying at the international site, try the US site. Not sure if there are other ones, and I do not remember which one worked and didnt for me.
So with a verizon version im screwed right? I dont really care about a custom rom at the moment but would like the have the retail US 11.0 firmware and root. Is this possible? If not I'm going to try to return it. I bought it on ebay and the seller didn't list it as the Verizon version or I wouldnt have bought it.

This is going to sound stupid, but I was so excited to unlock the bootloader that I used the dePixel8 to unlock it, without even checking.
I read that it would work on a Verizon or Google one and did it, without thinking of not being able to tell what version it is in the future.

At the bottom back of phone is a model number. You need a magnifying glass to see it. Somewhere on this forum is the key to the different model numbers. I saw it a couple days ago but don't remember where.

Mine is 2PW2100 and I'm on Fi SIM but it supports Verizon too. Mine is an RMA replacement of a bad Google Nexus 6p.

The verizon and google version have the same model number. That is probably why OP is asking how to tell the difference.
EDIT: you can tell by using the following command after enabling usb debugging in developer options.
Code:
adb shell getprop ro.boot.cid
Verizon will return something like VZW__001
and Google will return all 1's like 11111111
What if its all 0s ?

I was pointing this out to a V store manager and when we checked his personal Pixel XL under developer options, the OEM Unlocking option did not even show. It wasn't grayed out, it was hidden. I held my real Pixel XL up next to his and showed the option there. He finally relented and admitted/realized that the Verizon phone is not the same as the pure Google phone. Verizon f's them up.

I there any other way to tell? For example is the VZW model missing certain bands that the Play model supports? Or a different serial number? Turn on Dev options and look to see if the OEM unlock slider is blue or gray. If it's blue it can be unlocked.
That is the only way to be sure. Even the CID check can be wrong, we have seen quite a few phones mislabeled by Google.

Well that sucks, the only reason I wanted to make sure is because I dont want to argue with the seller to take it back for an issue they most likely dont understand (that and I dont want to pay return shipping only to end up with another Verizon model). Also the only reason I am even considering replacing my Nexus 6 is the fact it has a 32 bit CPU and the fact Google seems to be itching to get rid of 32 bit support completely
What I did: 1. look for private sellers, not stores or dealers, and avoid refurbs; 2. look for the color on the box being labelled in French as well as English (Verizon versions only show color in English); 3. contact the seller to ask them if they bought it direct from Google (if bought from anywhere other than Google Store or Project Fi it is the Verizon version).
Got my Z2 in T-Mobile version but dont have a sim yet, its still on the way. I have been trying all morning to unlock the boot loader but it tells me my phones not eligible. Does the sim card have to be in it to unlock bootloader??
Did you do the whole "get the code from the bootloader, then paste to moto website, then wait for emailed code" thing? At what point does it tell you the phone's not eligible?

I unlocked both of my z2's with out having a sim in them. There has to be something else you're missing, if you have a T-Mobile z2 force it should be unlockable. The only other thought is sometimes there are phones given away in promotions that can't be sim unlocked because their imei isn't in TMobile's system, maybe (if it's a "promotional phone") it's not in Motorola's system as a T-Mobile phone.
Also you should unlock the bootloader before you set it up since unlocking will erase everything including internal SD.

Make sure your not including any spaces in the unlock data and using copy/paste as the website is very specific. Even if you transpose 1 character it will be seen as an invalid code, hence the reason they have the nifty data scrubber so you can copy/paste everything and it will only transmit the code that is needed. It's worked for countless others.

I have used the data scruber, copied directly from command prompt and cleaned it, used notepad to clean it, verified, re-verified. I know I did it right on my end especially that this will be the 3rd Z2 that I unlock this month. I even tried the old trick of unlinking Motorola ID from the phone and even creating a new ID from another e-mail just so all my bases can be covered. After trying all of this, on different computers, browsers, I can say with certainty that I received a locked TMO Z2 Force.
There is a forum on Lenovo/motorola support that you can enter your unlock data and your getvar all so the motorola engineers can send you an unlock code manually. Apparently, some motorola can be shipped incorrectly coded.

Yep I figured this much. Must be a glitch on Motorola's website not recognizing the unlock data properly.
I got a replacement from T-MOBILE the other day. It has Oreo on it and everything. I had no problem unlocking the bootloader.
I bought this phone of ebay new never activated, still under warranty until October 2018.. would I be able to send it in for a replacement???
Well my BL is officially UNLOCKED even though my CID on the phone shows it not to be able to be unlocked, if your having trouble getting your unlock code from the online generator i'd suggest to head over to the Lenovo forum and let AlphaDog put in a request for the code.
When I did mine a few days ago, it behaved the same way until I actually registered it to my Moto account.
How did you do it???

Nothing out of the ordinary. Loaded os WiFi on, no sim , dev options enabled oem unlocking then fastboot commands. It does in my opinion disprove that it's because of the imei not being 99 though

My only issue is, I don't see that it's a 35 imei. Pics don't show it. Of course. No need for full imei, but definitely would love to see that it is a Verizon model. I know my pixel 3 is a Verizon one, and when I got it, before I even popped my sim in, I was unable to even toggle the switch. They didn't have one pre-installed in this one, I put my sim from my old phone in after it was still greyed. Had it on my wife's Wi-Fi for 30 Min before giving up
I get that and if you want private message me I'll give you my number and send whatever needed to unlock these if it's here.

What country are you in? I know that some devices in Europe can be unlocked after a certain period of time, I think 6 months or after you've paid off the contract. Something along those lines. Perhaps the IMEI are different outside the US? Nonetheless, did you buy it as a Verizon branded device either from Best Buy, Google or Verizon? If you bought it from Verizon then I'd say you got lucky as mentioned above. But suffice it to say you have done nothing that hasn't been tried hundreds of times.
USA, and I agree about it probably being luck of the draw however it is a proof of concept that it can be done. This is a Verizon branded device. Was a warranty but in store and still in the sealed box without a sim in it.
My personal feeling is there's a fastboot command that is fastboot oem rma that sets the trigger for it. They have to be able to unlock them during the RMA process for repairs right?

Where did you buy it? What do you mean by it was "a warranty"? In store sealed without a sim is extremely unusual if it was a brand new device. They all come with a Verizon sim in them afaik.
As for the fastboot rma commands, it's not necessarily the way they would do it. They could whitelist the IMEI temporarily, fastboot a factory image, then blacklist it again. Perhaps they forgot to blacklist yours. I'd say *very* lucky.
400 hours on the line with Verizon/Google I finally told them to give me a new one under warranty 5th one for various reasons and my final warranty according to them. I honestly don't think it was luck considering I even got a letter from corporate office (vzw) to cease and desist my contact with them regarding the bootloader they don't like it when you know their policies better then them and call them out for quoting policies out of thin air.
Hmm.. 400 hours? Might be time to close this thread. Sounds like a bunch of bull **** to me. Consider me trolled.

They have to be able to unlock them during the RMA process for repairs right?

a proof of concept aka POC would mean you have process to unlock the bootloader which in this case you dont. You dont have any steps for anyone to replicate it nor do you know exactly how it was possible which means no poc can exist.
just my 2 cents of course lol
Proof of trolled more like
Sounds like a jcbizsnatch kind of story.
i have bought a g8 from swappa, locked to sprint.
can it be unlocked already?
it does not asks for unlock pin when i put in another sim card.

Have a look at this article

I couldn't get my locked T-Mobile to work so planning to sell.
I bought a Unlocked Verizon G8 and I got it working for the most part but couldn't make or receive phone calls on it. I think the phone app had too much specific Verizon stuff. Ended up returning it
The Sprint version is a mess. Trust me.
I got my locked to Sprint. It works fine so far in the UK when I put my sim in it.

Great stuff, it's a solid phone and deserves a proper release in the UK

Are you sure it's not unlocked? Mine is brand new out of the box and I just get no Service, and a little note saying invalid sim in the drop down menu.
Has anyone manage to have one of these unlocked outside of going by the book with sprint?
All the services i've asked either said they can't do it, or said they could at first, then just sent me a refund pretty much straight back.
I don't mind paying for the service but it seems nobody is there yet.
Anyone know anything I don't?

They said it was locked to Sprint but also said it would work in UK. I hope you get it sorted. I'm having the same problem with the V50. I'm guessing the o my solution is if someone request the unlocking code from the manufacturer. Which can take a week or so.

The problem for the unlock code with the sprint G8 (and I gather some of the other phones too) is that they don't request an unlock code with an alternate SIM. There's a bunch of other codes you can enter to get the unlock code thing to pop up..... doesn't work.
It looks like the solution for the same thing on the Sprint G7 is for them to remote in using teamviewer or anydesk and work their magic.
I guess I could see if I can get my hands on a properly smashed up, non screen functional, unlocked phone, and transplant the board. But not really something I want to do with a brand new phone.
Partially hobbled by the lack of popularity I guess, you can find someone to do pretty much anything done to a Samsung

Hi mate. I still have my G8 so will have a try with a code I was given. You need it to request the sim unlock right?

Im really hoping these codes work for you (option 2 or 3). I didn't for me unfortunately.
Unlocking instruction for LG G8 ThinQ ?
How to enter an unlock code in a LG G8 ThinQ:
Second option (device doesn't ask for an unlock code with an unaccepted SIM)
1. Start the device with an accepted simcard (example LG G8 ThinQ was bought in Orange you need to insert an Orange card)
2. Go to the dial screen and press “2945#*model number#” (the same way you enter a phone number)
Example: the device is a P999 you need to enter “2945#*999#” or for KU990 you need to enter “2945#*990#” etc…
Third option (accepted simcard)
1. Go to dial screen and press 2945#*71001# or 2945#*20001# as if making a call
2. when a hidden window appears enter the unlock code
Thanks Agent.M
I appreciate you looking into it. I've tried all those codes on mine and they don't work.
From what I gather, Sprint has used some sort of different locking method that can't be undone by entering a code.
It looks like it was the same on the LG G7 and the solution involved cross flashing some software. The services offering to do it all remote in using team viewer or similar and do it for you.
There was a thread running on the G7 forum for it the sprint unlock, this G8 thread doesn't seem to have nearly as much activity on it. And doesn't look like LG is being helpful with unlocking the boot loader.
I'm a bit sad, I put a lot of thought into which phone to get. We've only got the G8s locally, and it's not quite the same phone.
I'm going to return it and I guess burn the $100 in postage, return postage, restock fees etc. I'm not really happy to sit on it for another 6 months until someone works out an unlock for it. With my luck, someone will probably crack it next week after I send it off.
Unlock codes don't work on this phone.
There's no way to enter it.
Also. Suspicious post is suspicious.
It kinda sucks that this phone still can't be unlocked from Sprint using a 3rd party option. Because of the lack of attention, I'm afraid that LG phones might be leaving the scene just like HTC.
I ended up returning my g8 and getting a v40 new unlocked locally.
It's freaking enormous but we only got the g8s here which isn't any smaller.
Hence chasing the g8. I wanted something a sensible size.
My sprint phone have a major issue, it was randomly rebooting several times per day. I got sick of it and did a full reset, it made things even worse, I somehow lost the sprint boot up logo and now it just endlessly reboots until I shut it down completely.
Is there anyway to do flash it back to the original stock firmware?
My Sprint G8 (sim unlocked) from america is working with my Irish sim on GSM/UMTS only.........so no mobile data. There doesn't seem to be an option to add an APN.
It cost me 400 dollars including shipping and duties.............kinda expensive for a pocket camera!!!
Love the phone and will go to any lenghts to get it sorted.....but it's not looking good.

I'd love to hear details......did you buy the phone from US seller or did you bring it to the UK yourself, after using it on Sprint in the US?
Did your UK SIM register on your UK provider and have you got mobile data?
Could you post some screenshot from your "about phone" menu and also your APN setting from your Network menu?
I can't get my Sprint G8 working in Ireland on my data network (works on GSM, calls and texts only)

I'm having the exact same issue with my LG G8
- As We only have G8s in EU, I bought AT&T G8 from US eBay. Used it for a month without any issues and then suddenly MM#6 error.
- Went to AT&T "unlock phone" page and entered my IMEI. It said the phone is lost or stolen.
- Contacted the eBay seller, they told it should be unlocked and sent me an unlock code. I entered the unlock menu (2945#*820#) and all options gave the same result "Phone is not Personalized", which should mean that there is no lock on the unit and I did not have an option to even enter the unlock code. But there is still the MM#6 error.
So a bit clueless as to what to do now and based on this thread it seems like there is no solution to this. The phone seems to be locked by some other method.
I have never owned an LG phone before and just wanted to try it out. Guess it's an expensive lesson
edit: just after posting this, I got answer back from my carrier - the phone is blacklisted. So that's and anticlimactic end to the story
It's a pity......the handset is amazing.
There are a community of people trying to get this sorted.
The problem seems to be that your phone is trying to register on the ATT network and it can't........and there is no way to change the settings needed for it to register onto your network.
Can you post a screenshot of your APN screen in Network Settings.

Ok so here's the details... I speak to Sprint techs on a regular basis. (Used to work for Sprint many years ago). And according to them it's true that Sprint Pixel 3 and 3XL are not locked in any abnormal way that a simple Fastboot command will unlock them like normal. BUT if you have just purchased the phone and took advantage of the massive discount for leasing the phone , then you will be met with a Greyed out OEM UNLOCK just like Verizon and whoever else is locked. Only way to clear that and be able to switch OEM Unlock to on, is by paying the full remainder of your contract and they will unlock with an OTA. (I actually performed this on my friends 3XL so it's true). The question I'm asking is for people such as myself who didn't wanna cough up $700 , and took the 40% off if you sign up for 18mo lease. ... Is there anyone here who knows of a way to enable the OEM Unlock without Sprint Sim Unlocking it first?? The screen will tell you that "this option is unavailable on Network locked devices, consult your provider" ... Like is there a Z3x box, or Octoplus Box that can remove the network lock to flip that toggle? Fastboot will not accept any FLASH command without it being enabled. Or does someone know of a Shortcut master-style exploit to get me in the menu with the option being available?? Or hell is there a dirty network unlock even similar to the Carrier changing exploits from the Samsung phones that were Network locked... I searched here thoroughly and no one has mentioned it. Is there an ENGINEERING file for this phone ... For real .. I know it can be done but that's way above my pay grade.. any hints of a place to look.. something to flash.. I'm up for whatever .. I can brick this phone to **** and walk up to the counter and they will give me a new one.. so I'm not worried of possible errors... 50/50 is good enough success rate of any trick you may know. Thanks in advance
I'll do you one worse .. I had no clue until this evening that pixel 3 xl had more versions than Verizon and Google store . So one came up on one of those selling local apps and I checked to make sure the IMEI started with 99 and was clear.... Both were so this is great right??? Google Store version finally so I go buy it right away ..
I think the private Pyle staredown through the eyebrows before he goes insane in full metal jacket would properly describe my reaction as I find out I just purchased not only a locked bootloader pixel 3 XL but a network locked pixel 3 [email protected]#$%G XL...
I swear I'm done trying to pick through the different versions of Google's phones ... Just pony up the money and buy it from Google it's rediculous any other way .... So now what? Well I called Google support and sprint and got the usual go @#$® yourself run around ... So it's on me but a hard way to find out there are now network locked pixels out there ...... I had no idea and I follow this stuff much more than I should

Unfortunately since it is a server side check/OTA to enable it there is no method currently to unlock the BL.
Been messing around with the Big Red version for a while now with no luck yet.....
Pixel 3 XL, haven't crashed it, YET

the sprint versions are abit different.. i was at sprint earlier snd checked em out.. the sprint p3xl says on the switch that it cannot be unlocked on carrier locked device or something rather..
vs. vzw i think says more along lines of connect to internet or contact carrier..
so maybe spr will get lucky and its tied to sim unlock vs. verizon being tied to imei?
also the spr versions have esim enabled too so they also got that goin for em at least
You could be right there. Unless the device is paid in full Sprint won't carrier unlock it, I think. At least that was how it was a few years back when I had Sprint.

Well in the Sprint store they are setup so you can't mess with a bunch of stuff. I'm about to get one if y'all haven't done it yet.
Edit: So i got mine and its locked to sprint which is fine but i have to have it active for 50 days even though its not leased and technically not sprint's device. they have a promotion for a free line for employees for 12mo's so its just sitting. i got the pixel 4 and i like the 3xl better so im just testing the pixel 4 on my line but ill probably just switch back. too bad the pixel 4 is already bootloader unlocked.
Alright so I have the answers to everyone's question regarding the oem unlock. If you can get the carrier unlock completed you can oem unlock the phone. The downside is that there is some known issue and it requires Google to unlock it. I was working with Sprint for over 2 hours and then while on the phone with Sprint I did the chat with Google. It took 2 days and it just unlocked. I'm not sure if you need to have Sprint push the unlock first or what but that's it. Google did say there was a known issue on their end so this isn't something that's instant at the moment. Hopefully that helps everyone and I've explained everything.

How did you set this process in motion? Does Sprint open a ticket with Google or something?

I have a sprint pixel 3xl that I recently sim unlocked. The text below the greyed out oem unlock option previously said "unavailable on carrier locked devices", while it now says "please connect to wifi or contact your carrier". I am on Android 12 beta 2 and the carrier unlock was confirmed after a recent update form beta 1. Still can't unlock the Bootloader.
