As written up- I consider buying max but most reviews said screen is not too good (not resolution but colors, they mostly say it is too bluish...)
Clearly, screen is main reason to buy this phone so this is deal breaker...
From owners- is it really so badly calibrated or bad itself?
I know that there is apk kcal for calibrating on low level qualcomm based phones screen (on cm or aosp). As there is cm13 for max, did anyone tried this?
any feedback is precious, thanks...
regards
I ordered a Xiaomi Mi Max last weekend after reading the review linked below, the most incredibly comprehensive review I've ever seen of a smartphone. I'm still waiting on the phone, it is still being shuffled about China, so I can't give my own opinion of the screen yet.
Read review here:
http://www.techspot.com/review/1239-xiaomi-mi-max/
Before my Mi Max 64 (pro) I used my Note 5. The note has a obviously better screen with higher resolution, but my Mi Max is no slouch. My complaint about the phone is the camera. While it takes well lit indoor/outdoor snaps of stationary targets, I found shooting my 4 month puppy (that didn't sound right), dodging and running was a near impossibility. Doesn't seem different camera app, ROM or update will solve the problem as it is hardware driven.
I'll be selling my Mi Max when another large screen phone with good camera comes around (Honor Note 8, Asus Zenfone 3 Ultra or Lenovo phab 2 pro), but meanwhile I love the large form factor an quick response of the SD 652.
But the screen: That's the last of my concerns. actually only the camera bothers me)

Don't worry about the screen, it's fine. I use Color Control from the Play Store to calibrate the saturation. Now it looks like an AMOLED minus the deep blacks. You'll be satisfied with the screen in the Mi Max.

Agree! Apart from the camera, this phone leaves little room for complaint. I was wondering if there is some way ige quality can be improved through some software tweak or better preset shooting mode configurations. Tried Open camera, CameraNext Mod and Focal. Did notice a slight difference. But low light photos still frankly suck when I compare it to my previous LG G Pro 2.
Wondering what do you guys expect from a under $300 phone... It has plenty for that price already.
thanks guys, it is not problem in expecting much for low money. I had almost all samsung flagships in last few years (s4, s6, note 1, note 3, note 4, now note 5). I want big screen- and is there better solution?
Huawei have some but software is terrible for my opinion... and no development at all...
I will, if buy max, install cm first minute- so how it works is there any major problem (autobrightness or big battery drain). Camera is last important for me...

They have a free version and a pro version. I bought the pro version.
So this bluish cast or generally can be fixed? Screen is not bad, just not so good calibrated initially?

Yes it can be adjusted. It's honestly not that bad even without adjustments.
Nothing wrong with the screen. I have never thought about wanting to calibrate it. I don't think it has a blue cast. My XA Ultra on the other hand...
I use the glare removal reading setting for apps that I spend a long time looking at. It adds a yellowish cast to the screen. I suffer insomnia so blue light is a concern for me. My sleep hasn't been great since buying the max but that's entirely due to not being able to put it down! I use twilight also to counter blue light at night.
I bought my Max (3/32) from Xiaomi Authorized store, and wanna say, it's not bluish! BUT, my friend got the "best" version, and the screen of his phone is... little yellow-ish, or something like that. He got his phone from Gearbest, that's what i know. Before Mi Max i used another phones with 6,44" screen size - Sony Z Ultra's. Every phone (i replaced 3) had differently calibrated screen. The best way is to get phone and (if you don't like calibration) tune screen for your preferences. We all have little different eyes.
Reviews really not like this screen, but ok.
I would go on cm13 of course: how is camera quality and autobrighness there?
Every phone has this problem on cm...
I thought the screen was pretty good, the reviewers must be spoilt constantly around $800 phones. For this price point I was quite impressed.
Does anyone know who makes the LCD panel?

Or any other app generally, how big improvement can be made on screen picture quality?

As Honor 9 has launched also it confuses me a lot about display size whether to choose Honor 8pro or Honor 9 . Am using a 5.5 inch display fone now...
Just need some good opinions whether I have to go with 5.7 inch Honor 8pro or Smaller 5.2 inch Honor 9 . Will I feel unsatisfied with smaller 5.2 inch Honor 9 ? Rest of the specs am ok with it.
I used to browser net and watch YouTube videos mainly. Please help

If you often watch videos, watching them in a bigger screen is more satisfying. Plus it has bigger battery.

it is statisfying that you get 6h of screen on time with heavy usage on a such powerful device ...
and please don't forget, you always have the one-handed mode ready with a swipe along the nav bar.
Out of curiosity in which market does Huawei sell both phones? I thought the Honor 9 was for China and the Honor 8 Pro for the rest of the world.

honor 9 is for all, you probably meant the V9.
The V9 is the same phone as P8 Pro, just for the chinese market.

actually, i'd think the difference is quite clear cut and the choice would be quite obvious.
the honor8pro is NOT a small phone. size and weight wise, it is very similar to Huawei Mate9. it can be a bit heavy if you're coming from a 5.5" phone.
so it does boil down to personal preference. for me, i do think honor8pro is a bit too big and heavy, but, i'd still take it over honor9 because i think i can accept the bigger size and weight more than smaller screen. i don't think i'd be able to accept a smaller screen... for me, just like you, i watch a lot of videos, browse the net and social media. a big screen can surely help with those...
i've used the Huawei P9 before. it's about the same size as Honor9. nice to hold and such... but, i felt the screen was a bit small for me. i like to game on my phone too...
hope that helps.

I think I agree with you . Despite single handed use. The bigger screen is always relaxing to eyes than the straining to a smaller screen area. Aint I right?

totally right. if one is gonna watch movies and browse the net, big screen is always a welcome. for myself, i find the size to be just nice at 5.5" to 5.7". not too big, not too small.

i guess either hands happy, or eyes happy...
but yes, holding the mate 9 (similar weight), it does feel a bit heavy. but i guess after a while, the hand should be used to it.
then again, staring at small screen, eventually eyes will get used to it too...
still, i prefer hand do extra work. i'm already four-eyed. plus, sometimes, can just put the phone on a stand or sth... no need to hold.

The H8P has a 2K display, which makes watching videos a delight. Though you'll use more battery. But with a full charge time of 1.5 hours I think you shouldn't have a problem.

also, 5.2 and above aren't too small, they are just perfect for a smartphone
Ok, I'm in a dilemma here. The OP5 (6GB) scores more in benchmarks than the H8P. Not to mention claims of the camera being better on the OP5 as well a battery life and not to mention a cleaner UI. So which one do I go for? Conventional knowledge says OP5. But I wanna hear from any Honor users here about this.
I carry my phone in my front pocket and the Moto G4 i have now with the sleeve on it works well. Since I've vowed to never own another Motorola/Lenovo product im looking at the Honor 8. If the Honor 9 was available in the US I'd probably go that route but since it isn't it may be the 8. I'm just unsure how it would carry thickness and length wise. I dont think a 1/2 inch or so will make much difference, and the weight doesn't matter much.

It's pretty weird in 2017 high end chipsets fones you still measure benchmarks ? Man come on... These both devices pretty well. Cleaner UI is not always aesthetic appeal. Gets bored easily too with cleaner oxy os
Hi!
I have 2 questions.
1. Did someone test the maximum nits Brightness in manual mode with a light sensor, if yes Whats the max Brightness? Thanks
2. The Zenfone 4 LCD screen has A LOT of motion blur and smearing while web browsing and with 2d Games like sonic and Mario Games. Do someone see these problems on the Zenfone 5 LCD screen ? Thanks ( Note that my Sony XZ1, Huawei P10 Plus , Idol3, Nexus 5, LG G4 dont have this problem, only the Zenfone 4) im Very interested to Buy a ASUS Zenfone 5 and root it , but i cant live with the Zenfone 4 motion blur and smearing, it was really too much

Hello everyone, got the new x80 pro 2 days ago, everything is fantastic and the cameras are really good!. The only issue is that the display looks a bit dull compared to other AMOLED displays, I enabled BRIGHT option In screen colour settings but still , is there any way that I could make display more colourful? My old Asus Zenfone 5z Super IPS display looks more vibrant then this.

Hmm good point, I thought about it later , any way I will get adapted to it no time it's already feeling good now , I have one more question when I watch HDR content in YouTube everything turn into light yellow tint similar to that night eye protection thingy, so is this how "HDR" works ? It also happened on my old phone.. but when I watch HDR content where I copied a 4k HDR video to phone and played it in default video player it was way more better than YouTube HDR videos! Any thoughts?.
