[Q] Discharge faster than charge?

Hey all, xda noob here! Just got my Nitro for Christmas and loving it so far (way better than the Backflip I replaced it with).
Having trouble with the battery though. When I'm playing a high-demand game, I lose battery even when I'm plugged into the included wall charger. I know that it's possible for the battery to drain faster than a car charger or usb port can keep up with, but from what I could find, that doesn't usually happen with a wall charger.
Just wanted to know if this is normal, or if it's something with my phone.

Never tried to game while being on the wall charger. I can give it a try tonite to see whether it's happening to me too. What game are you playing btw, just so I can test the same game too.
Kinda funny though, since the wall charger has 1.2amp output, which should be more than enough to power the phone and charge the battery at the same time.

My laptop adapter has USB charging port with 2.0A output, plugged in Nitro would discharge during Google Talk video call + active WiFi tithering (with not much use from connected laptop), although the battery stats say it's charging.

Playing Sentinel 3. I'm rooted, but haven't tried any of the battery optimization suggestions yet. Either way, that's a lot of drain. At one point I also got an overheat warning, and powered off, only to find that the battery was completely drained. Not sure if the issues are related.

Well, now the next on the list...battery drain/overheat issue lol!! I'm trying to defend this phone, but hell, LG really ****ed this phone up hehe.

More FUD I see...
USB charging ports are limited to 1.5A as per USB 2.0 specifications. The Nitro HD requires 1.2A to charge. If you have other USB devices connected to the system, you won't get the dedicated 1.5A. This is why your device loses power yet the charge indicator is active.

Not sure what other devices you are referring to, I was talking about a wall adapter with one usb port charge only. Since I can't really test how much amperage there is, I can't say if its a fud or not, however we are talking about charge-only port, I see no reason why they should follow usb 2.0 specifications to 100%, and besides there is always gadgets for super quick charge, I'm sure they don't follow such specifications.
But the fact that even with the original wall adapter Nitro can drain battery faster then charging just shows there is something wrong with the picture.

[Q] Car charger recommendations

Hello. I'm trying to pick a car charger that would work with the galaxy nexus. from what I've read so far the samsung CAD300UBEB/STD model seems to do the trick but a few review says that the battery discharges faster than the charger can charge it back under heavy usage. can anybody confirm or deny this?
and also, I would like to know if that same charger would work for a galaxy S2. I'm looking for a charger than can be used with both models because I have both phones. the listing of models in amazon website doesn't list the nexus or the S2. so I want to make sure before buying it. thanks!

The motorola charger listed there seems work well for the nexus and also for the S2 according to amazon reviews.

I went with one of these and a USB cable, and it seems to work just fine. Also gives me a spare USB port for additional charging.

I have the Motorola one already (the one with the blue LED) when I had my Droid 3, now it can't keep up with the Nexus' power drain. Just using it moderately on 3G only in the car today had it drain 3% over 40 minutes.

I have a galaxy nexus cell phone which requires probably around 1.5 Amps when using GPS. The phone does not come with the car charger. It only comes with a 2A wall charger. My temporary solution has been to use a car power inverter that has house-type outlets on it (which I already had) so that I can use the wall charger in the car. This has been working fine, but for obvious reasons, is not my desired long-term solution.
Enter this piece of crap. Now, the phone and only requires a little over 1 A with GPS. With the real two amp wall charger, I am able to both run GPS and charge the battery pretty darn fast. But, with this charger, not only can I not use GPS without draining the battery, but even when not using anything special, the battery charging times are horrendous.
Stay far, far away.

Wow... granted, I am not using a GPS, but I never really checked the charge times. I don't rely on it for a fast full-charge.. usually just plug it in on the trip home and charge as much as it can until I plug it in at home.

I've researched this pretty thoroughly, and the key question is whether or not your GN shows "AC" when you check the Battery status, or if it shows "USB."
With most car chargers, it is seen as "USB" as if it's plugged into a computer, and will draw minimal current, generally not enough to keep up. I had 2 different chargers in my cars, none of which showed as "AC". I bought and then returned the Griffin PowerJolt Dual USB Micro Charger - it also showed as only "USB."
Finally, in one of the other Android forums I've been monitoring on this issue, somebody came across this one:

$3.12, free shipping. Mine came yesterday, plugged it in, and finally my GN showed charging as "AC".

When your smartphone shows your charger as ''USB'' this means that the USB data lines in the charger are not short-circuited. Then smartphone reduces its charging current to avoind any problems with USB laptop power sources

I also opened a car charger and short-circuited the data lines on USB the plug . That way I have solved my previuos charging problem in my car during long trip.

i've used it now 4 times, twice on a trip from south florida to orlando.
It charges the phone just as fast, if not faster than my home charger. On the way back, my phone was at 35%, within 2 hours it was back up to 100%. No GPS and a couple phone calls.
on the way up, GPS on and it never dropped below 97%.
so i can tell you without any doubt what-so-ever that this charger works perfectly with the galaxy nexus and will charge it with Navigation and phone calls running.

I bought a charger very similar to this one and it works great in my car. I make sure any charger I get is rated 5V DC at 1000mAh at least.

I have 2 USB 2.5A dongle chargers, one by Belkin and the other by Kingston. Both register as charging via "USB mode" and do not provide sufficient power while the phone is in use(loses charge usually). I also have that Motorola Rapid charger but the way the cable is designed it tugs on the USB port and comes loose often. I ended up just using the normal USB cable that comes with the phone and a 140W power inverter. Granted, it's not the most compact of devices, but it works well. I got it from Walmart for $20. (and yes, using a power inverter will have the phone registering as "charging AC" and give a full proper charge.)

There was another thread, I think in the General that discussed all of this, what people came up with was the best combination if you want a dual port usb charger is to make sure you have a "charging only" USB cable. This cable will not make your phone think it is connected to a computer. You can tweek a data/charging cable to work but some people messed that up so it is probably worth just spending the $4 on a cable that works.
Here is my combination that works great. With this set up I can have on my navigation going with the screen on the whole time and stream Pandora over Bluetooth into my car and the battery still charges really quickly.

Seriously, why can they come up with a standard and call it a day?
I have a had a few GPS/Pandora runs. Even while it says AC charging and my charger is rated for 1A, it drains the battery by 300-400ma.

My biggest concern... USB-C

I've got a lot of devices that use micro usb, and several quick charge adapters and hubs.
From my understanding the OP3 will only quick charge when using the specific charger and cable that comes with it.
Now I'm wondering if I'll no longer be able to charge while driving and using GPS... only true quick charge seems to catch up to that kind of drain.
Anyone have an idea how this might work?

It would still charge with any cable but not at "Dash" rate!

OnePlus AMA on Reddit they say there are Power Management chips built into the Chargers so doubtful of it being opened up to any USB-C cable at Dash Charge rates.

Nope not true at all. Any charger with a USB-C cable will charge this phone. Confirmed by Andrew on Android central

I submitted a question on what kind of usb type C connector they used. I'm wondering if they circumvented the "official" type C connection in order to implement their dash charging tech.

Get the £25 Car Charger that will stop problems with drain.

Okay, reading through the thread, I feel like I can give you some definitive answers, and maybe solutions as well.
1) The Dash charging management IS offloaded to the charger. This means that only a charger with the built in functionality will trigger Dash charging safely. However, they WILL be selling accessories for cars, walls, etc. Might be available now. Keep checking, and if you're really curious you can call them and find out if they have any plans for the above.
2) ANY USB-C cable will charge the device, but not at QuickCharge/Dash speeds. This isn't a matter of triggering it in the device via software; the device is missing the hardware to make this work without the proper chargers. So it WILL charge, but at normal speeds.
(That being said, I ADVISE AGAINST using any charger that's not branded for the device. These things can and have caught fire and gone boom, and there's a reason they test the **** out of them before releasing them into the wild. The kid in China making $2/hr does not get paid enough to care if you die, so that's your responsibility.)
3) The inclusion of quickcharging means you can get to a destination with a plug and be reasonably charged within an hour. Unless you're a trucker, you'll probably just need to carry a charger around with you if it becomes THAT much of an issue, or keep one at your destination (I do this with my HTC 10, since i only have one plug. Works fine, lasts overnight and the 1 hr train ride to work.)

I have a nexus 5x that has usb-c with no issues. I use the stock power brick to charge and bought a respectable anker usb to usb-c cable for my pc. Can use that to adapt to my car charger to. You shouldnt have any issues. When my op3 gets here ill still use the same anker cable.

I've been using the Anker 4.8A / 24W car charger for at least a year and have (quick charged) my Note 4, LG G4, Moto G, and other devices without any problems. But I've never owned a USB-c device, so I'm weary about using it.
I honestly don't want to spend another $100 on an extra adapter, cable, and car charger just to make it a little more convenient!

Well, while it is type C, and can charge at 2.1amps, it is also wise to understand the factory charger and cable are capable of so much more. It is essentially OPPO's VOOC, which takes the heat out of the device into the charger and pushes about 20 watts, even while the phone is active.

I don't wanna start new theme. So quick question. Does this usb-c support any hub with hdmi, full usb 3.0 (or2.0)and usb-c charging?

Keep in mind USB-C is the new standard, everything next year will be USB-C. So whats the difference between spending $100 on new chargers now or $100 next year when it is the only choice you have?
Also a quick google-foo shows there are several USB-C to HDMI/USB/USB-C adapters

Thanks for that info. I have to look that article up. I just wonder will is have USB-C Power Delivery 2.0 to Rapid Charge. I now know that not every smartphone that has a USB-C port rapid charges. Neither my Nextbit Robin nor HTC 10 do, and I later found out they weren't USB-C Power Delivery 2.0 compliant.

Not sure why you refer to USB-C to HDMI or DP but OP3 does not have video out support.
Think I'll just take the hit on my wallet and buy a spare Oneplus dash charger. I'm slightly annoyed they went for a protected system, when Apple did it we were unhappy, so far I've not seen the community complain about this new Oneplus 'feature'.

I was going to complain, but then I did the research on DASH/VOOC and realized it is best in class, better than anything on the market to date. Quickly Charge with little heat... I'll pay 30 for a 2nd charger. And if I am in a bind, I'll just use normal USB C and suffer as I do now with my 1+1.
My only grr moment is seeing a car charger is $30.

sorry did not see this. the oneplus 3 charges at a much slower speed using the stock nexus 6p charger. i checked

I use the dash charger at home and a standard 2.1A Capdase Power adapter in the car and a 2.1A Capdase Wall Adapter at work. Obviously only the Oneplus Dash Charger Charges at lightning speeds. But to be honest.the other chargers also do faster than normal charging. Im comparing from my oneplus 2 that one used to take forever to charge. I get a full charge with the dash charger in say abt 45 to 50 mins. And with the normal charger in about 1hr 30 mins. Which is still quite fast IMO. Oneplus 2 used to charge completely in about 3 hours. Im using the oneplus 3 cable with the Dash charger. The Oneplus 2 Cable in my car and an UltraProlink USB to Type C cable at work.
Tldr. Dash charger works super fast. Other normal chargers work just fine.

Thanks for checking. Excuse my lateness. I had a feeling that would be the case because it charges severly slower with my USB-C Rapid Wall Chargers.

That's great, It takes me about 70-72 minutes for a full charge from 0-100%. On top of the speed, I really appreciate that it doesn't overheat. I feel more confident with any smartphone that doesn't overheat while charging.

Charging speed

To power up, you consume Red Bull. But your phone just needs its adaptive fast charger. Rate this thread to express how quickly the OnePlus 3T can charge. A higher rating indicates that it charges extremely fast.

Love DASH! I quit charging at night because while using WAZE on way into work, I'm at 100% in no time anyway....

DASH charger is indeed brilliant

Love the dash charging too. Such a big improvement for me. Plug it in, do some things, return and have a phone with at least 70 percent. Hell yeah. Good if you need to leave but dont have much time for charging. Even 10 minutes give you an enormous boost. Never want to miss that ^^
btw where can i rate this thread from the xda app??

i know its a silly Q but if i use a regular USB C cable , will the charge speeds be v slow or just a small % down

This dash charge is a real thing! 2-3 minutes gives you about 8-10%

Because of the fact that the adapter is the one that gives you much or less ampere i would say it does not depend on the cable. I.e. when i plug in the usb c cable from 1+ into my tablet adapter that has 2.5 Ampere Output im not on dash charging. It charges normal. The 1+ Adapter does have an output of 4 Ampere, so it gives you the Dash Charging.
So i would say the cable from 1+ IS a normal Usb c cable. (anyone proves me wrong??)

Dash charge is great. Charge up my phone super fast. Love it.

DASH is definitely great in comparison to QC 2.0 and 3.0. I'm just concerned about battery durability since the battery is not easily removable.

On the ampere app the max input current I noticed was at 3510mA, which is pretty insane.
All in all, awesome technology.

Thanks for that, yep, i never had a phone with fast charge. also just wanna ask , is fast charge or wirless charge better as i used to have N4 which i liked as it had built in wirelesss charge

i can't give you any hints if wireless charging is better/faster then dash charging
there are also differences in dash/fast charging. look to other publisher like Huawei or zte. they have different charging times and what you get out of it in you battery.

Dash charging is genius. Letting my phone charge after work right now. Picked it up and it was stone cold. Love that. Left it on for onky 20 minutes and i got my 40% juice back easily. Its just great. I love this phone wholeheartedly.

The speed my phone charges at is insane. 30 min and I have at least 60% more battery.

Dash charging works great and overall charging speed is fine.

Wireless charging is more of a gimmick than anything else, it's much less effective and charging currency is about 200-400 milli amps per coil, so at best your can reach about 1 amp with a triple coil charger. ?
Actually, a single coil charger won't even trigger charging on this phone, tried it and it gives up on charging in like 0.2 seconds. ?

Wireless charging is more of a gimmick than anything else, it's much less effective and charging currency is about 200-400 milli amps per coil, so at best your can reach about 1 amp with a triple coil charger. ?
Actually, a single coil charger won't even trigger charging on this phone, tried it and it gives up on charging in like 0.2 seconds. ?

USB from computer and car charging really slow....

Hi Guys,
I have a thinkpad which has regular USB and also a fast charge USB port. They have worked fine in the past on other phones and I used to see at least 1 amp charge rates. (on the fast charge port)
Using either port on the 20 X I only get about 200 ma charging rates?
I'm using "Ampere" to get the charging rates, it is definitely charging slower than normal...
Have you guys noticed this?

Also of note, It charges really slow from my car as well. On the hour drive home the phone only went up 4%. (This is a VW using android auto)

I think all bets are off when your using 3rd party chargers. I think Huawei might have some official accessories that you may need to buy.

I have a bunch of phones and every single one of them charges at normal charging rates off my laptop and in my car, this is pretty strange...

Huawei uses a completely different setup from QC 3 from charger to cable . How does it charge with the supplied charger and cable that you received with your phone? If you buy extra chargers for home or car make sure they say they do Huawei "Supercharge". They are a little hard to find but they are out there. Make sure the USB cable is rated for 5a(amps)

I haven't even used the included charger and cable, but plugged in at the house I do see 2 amp charge rates which is great.
The downside is that in the car with android auto I can't really plug it into anything other than the car's USB and that give me a really slow trickle charge. This is where a bulk of my charging occurs since I drive for work so much. Basically I have never charged my other phones outside of the car, I just use android auto all the time and the batteries are always topped off. So not being able to charge from car or laptop is not a deal breaker at all, but it certainly means I need to start carry a charging cube around everywhere.
Just seems odd for such an expensive flagship phone to not charge correctly via USB like every other phone I have ever had.

Try the supplied charger and cable just to make sure you do not have a defective phone. When you plug in the cable to charge watch your screen. It should show your battery percentage and a short lighting bolt. Then in just a second it should change to a long lighting bolt and say super charging. If it does that you know your phone is charging correctly. Take your Huawei supplied cable and use it on your laptop and car and see if that doesn't increase your chances speeds.

I gave the original cable a shot and it still basically charges at 200-250ma from my laptop. Very odd indeed. Not even seeing the normal 500ma that you would get on a regular USB port. (Tried both standard and high charge rate USB ports on my lenovo)
Anyone else seeing this behavior?
