I am wondering if anyone has experienced the same issue that happens to my phone every few weeks. I don't usually reboot my phone, but sometimes I do. Occasionally, when the phone starts, the screen is completely black. If I shine a flashlight on it, I can sometimes faintly see the screen. The only thing that can resolve it is holding down the power button for 10 seconds so it restarts.
Sometimes when it happens, if I'm in the car etc, I can't tell if the phone is on or off, so it's a bit of a headache.
I've completely reset my phone and flashed an Android 10 Image a few months ago, but it still occurs. ( This was a full factory reset with clearing cache etc in recovery ). I've never rooted the phone, but have always had bootloader unlocked.
Anyone else ever experience this?

I'm still on Android 9 and occasionally this happens to me too. I rarely reboot so I don't notice it that much but it does happen. If I hold the power button down I can feel the vibrate feedback for the power menu presumably. I've never tried to troubleshoot it investigate because it happens too infrequently for me

I've got a little problem that is draining my battery.
When i press the power button, my screen turns off, but two second later it turns on into the lockscreen.
Already tried a full wipe to look if some app is causing the problem, but nop. it still had the problem.
However the weird thing is that when i use the phone it never turns the screen off. it does sometimes pop up the power menu, but that does not happen often.
I hope someone can help me, because it annoys the heck of off me that i can't even get 7 hours out of my phone w/ minimal use.
After I installed the ICS custom ROMs, I found that my Kindle Fire cannot shutdown properly. When I press the power button and click shut down, all the icons are disappeared like a computer shut down situation, but I can see that the screen backlight is still on. Even I pressed the power button again it is still has backlight (this should prove that it cannot shut down and still working)
I'm using TWRP and have tried most ICS roms released recently with kernel 3.0. I have wipe factory reset, cache and dalvik cache before install new rom.
Anyone has encounter this problem and can solve it? Is my TWRP has problem? Thanks for help.
If you'd bothered to read even a little bit you'd realize this is a known problem with 3.0. If you want to shut it down hold the button for 10 seconds or until the screen turns off.

Its hard to believe that people somehow manage to miss the huge font size... 60? red letters stating these things in hash's threads.
even still, i've seen alot of threads saying 10 seconds isnt always enough, and to be 100% sure hold for 20 seconds.
I've noticed it myself, every now and then if i only hold for 10 seconds, and dont pay attention, i end up later having to hold it for 20 more seconds to shut all the way off and reboot hopefully they sort it out soon.
I was talking on the phone and BOOM it resets.
It started reloading and can't! WTF!? It just gets caught. The Samsung logo comes up and then the darkside boot animation (been running this rom for a few weeks). Then it blacks out and does these intermittent vibrations like it's trying to boot but just stays black.
When I take out the battery and put it back in, it attempts to load itself without me touching any buttons. After the boot animation it goes black and does a single vibration that pulses every other second.
I've changed the battery several times, plugged in, unplugged, everything I try can't stop this.
I attempted to get it into recovery. After I get it there, it resets within seconds and puts me back to the same place. There is no way to get into download mode as it goes into this weird loop as soon as I plug the phone into USB.
Ever heard of this? What do I do?
Your explanation sounds like a hardware issue. your power button is being pressed and held without you doing it.
1- is the phone in a case? take the case off.
2 - if no case, did you get the phone wet? somehow the power button connection is being activated.
3 - power button is stuck.
Possible solution - remove battery then press and release the power button several times.
Let me know if that solved the issue.

My phone just started acting up really weird. Whenever I would graze the power button (not even when I push it in all the way) the screen would lock and sometimes immediately turn back on. Some times the power menu would come up. Other times it would just restart and go into this weird loop where the screen would be black, the phone vibrates, and the LED just flashes. Does anyone know what I should do about this? I was using CM9, but this happened pretty randomly so I don't think its a software issue.

Try flashing a different ROM. There may a bug or something on that ROM that could be doing that.

You just got a malfunction power button. It happens a lot. You need to call samsung/tmobile for warranty service.

In short, the phone is stuck in a bootloop unlike any I've read about before. All on its own, it constantly makes the bootup vibration pattern but it does not boot up. The screen does not light up, it is completely black (backlight is off as well). It is sitting on my desk doing the vibrate patter (bzzz-bz). Then 40 seconds later, again, (bzzz-bz).
If I could see the screen, I imagine it is going past the 1st Asus Logo screen, then trying to load the OS (2nd Asus Logo), but crashing and restarting.
This happened after I flashed fastboot (droidboot), recovery, and boot. All flashed successfully, so I went into Recovery and started to "wipe cache". It was taking too long so I thought it froze and forced a restart. After that, I never saw the screen light up again.
Any ideas as to what is going on? The phone has no damage (at least physically ).
Yes, wiping cache takes a long time you have to wait it out, forcing reboot before it finishes will result in bootlooped, that is covered in many many threads, you will need to reflash entire Rom from bootloader.
Problem is, I cannot get into bootloader. Its still doing the vibrate cycle I described, it's been 8 hours already.
Try holding the power button and volume up toll you get 2 vibrates then release power, if that does not help it sounds like your power button is stuck in depressed mode
Stuck in depressed mode? But I am able to press it, and I hear it click, and click back up. The "spring" seems to be working fine.
