update android 9 to 10 galaxy s9 with twrp - Samsung Galaxy S9 Questions & Answers

i want update my android 9 to 10(custum stock rom) in a galaxy s9 by twrp
model galaxy s9 (sm-g9600)
it's possible? or do i have to do it for the ODIN and then install the TWRP again?
thank u

It depends on the custom rom that you're gonna using, some of them will work just fine.
but on the other side the rom requires stock bootloader and so on,
the safest way is to flash to the stock latest android 10 rom through odin,
but if you don't want do that just make sure that the custom stock rom includes the latest stock bootloader where you can just ask on the rom's discussion
also don't forget to update your twrp version to the latest first, or there might be a possibilities that you will end up with error

[Q] How to flash a stock rom on the Note 8

I have a Note 8 but as I live in China I comes with the Chinese firmware withouth gapps support.
I was able to use a root exploit and noticed someone posted a stock rom in the development forum.
I would like to flash this rom but I am wondering how to get started, as I understand there is no CWM yet
so the only bootloader is the standard e3. Can that one be used to flash the rom?
Thnx
Are you trying to flash back to stock? As in like you got the phone out of the box? Or are you trying just trying to flash a stock ROM? There's a big difference between the two.
Flashing a ROM is done via a custom recovery, not Odin ....
I flashed a different stock rom
Hi
So I wanted to flash a different stock rom as bought mine in China where I live and it does not come with gapps
I ended up using the international stock rom provided in the development forum using the note 8 toolkit also provided
In the development forum. First it installed insecure boot, then the custom recovery system using odin.
The custom recovery did not work properly as the screen was rendered incorrectly upon selecting every other
Item in the recovery menu, but I managed to work my way through it and then install the international stock rom.
Worked like a charm and I now have a fully operational note 8 instead of a crippled chinese version
I cannot post in the development forum, but to everybody there a big thank you

[Q] Updating a already Rooted Galaxy S3 that's on 4.1?

I rooted my dad's phone a while back ago so he can use tethering in case of emergencies etc. He recently got a smart watch and I wanted to updated it so that he can use it. But it has not been touched since that day. I essentially want rooted stock rom, I'm unaware of where to find that the closest I can find is StockMod kitkat. Which seems to not work on ATT phones? I just want to make sure that I don't brick his only phone on christmas. So is there something I should be aware of?
His model is SGH-i747
Baseband
i747UCDLK3
Build number
jro03
So how do I go about upgrading it? Can I just flash TWRP and flash any rom using TWRP?
I found this, so I should install new TWRP, then flash a specified kernel then flash rom? would this be safe route?
Some of the latest ROMs require a 4.4.2 bootloader and modem.
The simplest and safest way to get the latest bootloader may be to flash back to unrooted stock 4.1.1 and run OTA updates until the phone is running the latest KK ROM. You can then flash TWRP or CWM and a custom ROM.

Would this require flashing with ODIN? I just want it so that it works with root is not required anymore.
Yes, you would flash the 4.1.1 stock ATT ROM via Odin. I prefer Odin 3.07.
You cannot install OTA updates with root.
You can try flashing just the bootloader and modem but I prefer the long slow route of OTA updates.
I rather do it this way, manually so my dad can enjoy it today. I was wondering how can I update it's TWRP? it's at 2.3 but the TWRP manager keeps crashing when I update it.
I highly recommend the latest d2lte version of Philz Touch for recovery.

Ok I ****ed up, flash that kernel and did whatever and bam ****ed up. Not working... ****, I still ahve download mode and Recovery but it will not boot into the OS. I get a flash of samsung and then nothing else happends...****
I decided to flash stock DLK3 in odin. Then let the updates take it course (my dad doesn't need root) Where Can I find the file?
The stock ATT firmware is on sammobile.com.
If you want root, OTA to the latest 4.4.2, install Philz, flash supersu via recovery.

[SMP600] on 4.4.2 custom - want to upgrade, I'm on ND1 do I need to upgrade firmware?

The title almost says it all.
I am on a custom 4.4.2 ROM (using ND1 firmware) and want to look into upgrading to 5.1.1 or higher. Obviously rooted with TWRP recovery.
I know I'll need to upgrade my TWRP from 2.6.0.3 or whatever it is on right now to 3 or better - but I need to know if I will have to flash official stock 5.1 to upgrade to the newest firmware, if there is a newest firmware, to get the install clean with minimal errors or can I just flash a custom TW ROM and hope that upgrades the firmware, if there is new firmware, or is there a thread I can be directed to so I can read up on what I need to do to upgrade?
Or since I am already rooted with TWRP, can I just upgrade or flash my twrp to a known good version and flash a rom then be on my way?
Thanks in advance!
Dear Friend , It's all clear that if if you want to install any TW Lollipop ROMs, you need to first install a Lollipop firmware ( Using Odin ) to install a Lollipop bootloader ( do not even think of ticking the update bootloader in Odin because then you wouldn't be able to revert into KK firmware and then you can't run any KK ROM on Lollipop bootloader ) and then install a TWRP ( I recommend ShevT's one which is less glitchie and faster than the official ones because of the F2FS support !! ) and then you're free to go the way you like
... Hope it helps ... With Best Wishes - Hitman1376

How to get update.zip for stock firmware update via TWRP

Hi,
I am running stock Android 9.0 firmware on my Samsung Galaxy S9 (SM-G950F) with TWRP recovery and Magisk.
I want to update my firmware to a newer stock Android 9.0 firmware by flashing it as update.zip in TWRP, without formatting data.
I have downloaded the ODIN flashable firmware from sammobile, but this is not a TWRP flashable zip.
Where do I get an update.zip or how can I genereate it?
Thanks,
Stefan

uhm... wut? You cant do what youre asking. Youll have to get a compiled ROM and flash it. I dont have a rootable version of the S9, so im not familiar with the ROMs that are available, but are there not any 9.0 ROMs you can flash?
Actually, I would also switch to an already compiled ROM, if it wold be possible to do without wiping the data partition. But all ROMs have this as a prerequisite, if you switch to them from a stock ROM.
I will probably try to flash the stock firmware via ODIN with Home_CSC, although this is riskier than flashing the firmware via TWRP.
A better way, as I understand would be to get a Samsung OTA firmware file. Since https://firmware.science is down, does someone know an alternative?

you dont flash firmware in TWRP, just ROMs. And if you flash a deodexed stock ROM that has the same base as yours, you shouldnt need to wipe
Flashing a deodexed stock ROM sounds good. By same base do you mean the baseband version (G950FXXU4CRKB in my case) or the build number (R16NW.G950FXXS4CRLB)?

Redmi note 9s International model

Hi i have to install custom rom i have twrp installed miui 12 installed can i install other custom rom
i am assuming u have unlocked bootloader, since u have installed TWRP.
first piece of advice install OrangeFox recovery and not TWRP, makes custom ROM installation way easier on this phone series. if you are still on Android 10, u also need to download and flash latest firmware as well. then its upto u to select a custom ROM of ur liking
