[Q] OTA update clarification

Checking the forum for the pass 2 days but can't really get satisfaction answer:
I have just unlock my bootloader but not yet rooted.
I would prefer to have the standard ROM instead of the customer ROM at this moment, question below:
a) If I do not rooted my phone, do I able to update through OTA as normal? (my ROM still on 1.28 and wish to wait for the 1.29 to solve the SD card missing issue). Do I need to relock it back first?
b) If I decided to rooted my phone, can I still get the full update (including Radio.....?) Do I must use the RUU file to do the update.
Sorry if above question seems stupid as I'm totally new to Android system.

[Q] Question about recovery of m8 Play Edition

Hello guys. Please help a newbie out:
First of all, this is regarding the Play Edition of the m8: the one that comes without Sense and is supposed to give a near aosp experience. There isn't a forum specifically for the Play Edition, so I hope posting here is ok.
Second, this is my first non nexus phone and I'm skittish, specially because I don't have the safety net of a full factory image I can download and fall back to.
OK, here goes:
I want to root my phone cuz, hey, it's android. But in order to do that I need to flash a custom recovery such as twrp. And if do that, Ill loose the ability to receive the upcoming L ota upgrade. On my nexus phones I could just go to Google website, download a factory image and flash the stock recovery when I needed, but with the m8 PE, how do I go back to the stock recovery when I need to?

Generally speaking you can pull the stock recovery from the last OTA update or RUU / Firmware.zip
May I please impose on you guys to tell me how to do that, our to point me to where I can read on how to do it?
I really miss my root, but I definitely want to be able to catch the ota upgrade when available.
EDIT: Or if you guys could please tell me how to backup my stock recovery before installing a custom one.

[Q] Flashing or OTA for android l, which one is better ?

Hello,
I am a bit confused, people say here that after update to Android L, the boot loader will change and there is no way to downgrade. If by any chance 5.0 shows some issues then there would be no way back, While some others say that by flashing the android L rom with any recovery you can always go back.
So please say me which is better ? Flashing or OTA ?
If ota, then is there any way to downgrade.
I'm a new user and want to play with custom roms, while still want to taste the lollipop.
Please help !
OTA
Hey Men I Am Very Much Impress BY your Question I Think The OTA Will Be The Best Way To Update The Phone Because If Any Think Happens To The Mobile While Updating The Mobile From Recovery Or CWM It Will Get Bricked then What Will You Do So I Think The Best Part Of Update Is The OTA Update. :good:

HTC M8 Hong Kong Help (No version_main)

Hi everyone!
I recently unlocked my bootloader and rooted my m8.
I tried using firewater to "s-off" my phone and unfortunately, it did not work out. The way I understand it, I cannot install stock ROMs (such as the 5.0.1 GPE) without "s-off." Now, I want to unroot my phone and stick to waiting for the OTAs to roll out instead.
I followed the instructions in the "returning to stock" thread and noticed that I have no version main (see attached image). I looked around the forums and saw that the advice was to flash the latest TWRP version. Since I'm stuck with a phone that I cannot update, I'm trying to be careful now. Can anyone please confirm if flashing the latest TWRP will bring my version main back?
The noob in me also has a few questions/requests as well:
1. Since my phone is rooted, I cannot receive OTA updates and upgrade to lollipop once these updates roll out?
2. Please tell me which files to download to return to stock. Just trying to be really careful this time around.
3. Lastly, is it also true that I can only install custom ROMs once have rooted? As to stock ROMs, I can't install them until I get "s-off"?
Thanks a lot, everyone! Cheers!

Do I have to flash the latest TWRP version before proceeding?

[Q] Lollipop OTA - "device suspected in rooting"

So, for a previous OTA update on 4.4 KitKat that brought some bug fixes, I could simply do a temporary unroot and use OTA survival mode with Superuser/SuperSU.
Now, with this new OTA that updates the OS to Lollipop, none of that seems to work. It always detects that the device is rooted and I don't know how.
So, does anyone have any idea how to apply this Lollipop OTA with a rooted device? How to avoid OTA rooted phone detection?
The last resort is to either use SuperSU to unroot fully or flash a fresh stock ROM... and none of those are satisfying.
Thanks in advance!
It's more than obvious that you need to flash a stock rom for OTA to function properly.

Well, you can play around with RCT, there are guides on resetting that.
Though it's not gonna work, such a big upgrade will break root regardless of ota survival mode or whatever. Or you will get a bootloop...
Do it the right way. Install TWRP, then install rooted LL rom.

Hi! I'm in South Korea and I had the exact same issue on KK.. I always used to flash the stock and then update KK... HOWEVER .....I didn't receive OTA update on Lollipop. I connected my phone to LG PC Suite and the phone updated from there.. and I didn't have to unroot. Have you tried connecting your phone to LG PC Suite and update from there? Good luck
IMO.. Lollipop sucks! I went back to KK after trying Lollipop for a few days.
