App storage showing 12gb - Xiaomi Mi A2 Lite Questions & Answers

Hi! In Settings>Storage other apps show 12gb of storage used. But when I open it, and add all the apps, the storage used is not more than 3-4GB. Where is all other data??

I just looked at that screen (Settings -> Storage). Firefox showed up as less that the total reported when I click on it.
Same for every other app I looked at.
Probably shouldn't add up to gigabytes though...

So is this a glitch? I noticed that YouTube is not showing there. So I think all apps are not showing there.

Did you enable system apps? (3 dot menu)

Yes I did. But they are of small sizes.

Storage space running out error

Hey I'm having an error with my phone saying the above error permanently in the status bar. It notifies me of 250mb free although that isn;t and amount that adds up from how much media the galaxy is saying i have stored. I have tried flashing different roms clearing cache resetting etc no prevail. Please no suggestion that includes installing apps as I can't do that and I cannot connect to the computer to backup media to format the device due to hardware issues. I also don;t have a file manager installed as it doesn't come with the ROM and can't install due to this issue :/ help is muchly appreciated!
Thankyou
Can you break down what the storage says? Don't forget, on a 16gb nexus there is only (IIRC) 13.3GB free after allowing for formatting and system files.

It doesn't count all other directories in the SD aside from Music, Data, Pictures, etc. Plus, other file types don't count to that total. ROMs, for example, take up a lot of space but aren't counted when you go to settings>storage. And then you have app data that apps put in a weird place and are hundreds of MBs big...
i have 351 mb left.but yet the error message in the status bar does not go.i cant install any apps from the market.it says insufficient memory.but i do hv 351mb free!! any solution??

App storage getting low: what is "Other"?

I recently got a message that my App Storage is getting low. I was very confused, as I don't have that many apps installed (and uninstalled even more in the meantime). When I looked at the storage overview, it looked like this:
What on earth is "Other"? I have no idea what this should be. It seems to be getting larger and larger, filling up my entire app storage. When looking at tools like DiskUsage, I couldn't find the problem...
Anyone got an idea?

ouya running out of space?

My OUYA is alerting me its running out of space.
I honestly dont have many things installed. But I think Order and Chaos takes up the most room even though its like 300mbs in the app list.
I am looking to move some stuff to my 32gig external flash but I dont see the option "move to usb" in the app properties, is there a way to move the games and apps or do I have to uninstall and then reinstall to external?
thanks

In the "make" or "play" section where you launch apps hit the U button on controller (only works on newer firmware I think). It may be app data taking all your space, look for obb and data in the android folder.

Does find 7 QHD version has 3gb app limit?

For ANYONE who already owns the find 7 qhd, does it have the same limitation on storage as the find 7a or is it unified storage? Please answer me fast I can't WAIT to pre-order. Thank you!

Unfortunately, not unified.
God dammit oppo. What the hell!
Anyway I got this from a user on oneplus forums:
"Go to Settings > General tab > Storage > Preferred install location. There you have 3 choices... System Storage, Phone storage, and System default. Change it to Phone storage
Edit - adding addtional info: User installed applications are installed in /data/apps, settings and app data is stored in /data/data, and then application cache data is stored in /cache. These are all part of the "System Storage".*
Quoting from*http://android.stackexchange.com/qu...ce-between-system-memory-and-internal-storage"
Does this help with the limitation problem? Anyone?

Interesting. Didn't know that. Just got the phone a few days ago. I'm so used to having the whole phone storage and external microSD storage. Hopefully, someone could shed some light. Sorry about that.

What solution? They just said buy an OPPO and flash CM11. That doesn't change your non-unified storage, I've done it.
There seems to be some indication from oppo that they will be moving to unified memory soon(ish)
there is a thread on the oppoforums.
google search "FREE OUR MEMORY MOVEMENT find 7" and you can have a read. its a 10 page thread.

Hello,
They said they will be moving to unified memory for future phones not for the oppo find 7/7a.
Yes it does however I installed all my apps today and still have 1.5gb left!
The method of changing the preferred location will put your apps in the "other" storage partition. The only problem with that is some of the apps don't like the "other" section, especially widgets so they won't work properly. I have all my apps that I normally carry on my phone and I'm fine. The structure is stupid/antiquated and will be corrected at some point in the future but for me, for now, it's not that big of a deal. If you're a gamer that might pose a bigger problem but I'm not certain if apps to SD applications wouldn't solve at least some of the issues?

That's worrying.
You had you phone for how much time ?
I guess not very long and the partition is already half full.
Now the cached data are going to grow and of course there are going to be update too.
I wonder how much time is needed in your case before you need to do some cleaning.
6 months, one year ?

how to clean other files with huge size in internal memory in storage analyzer

I have my Galaxy Note 10 + for 11 months now, with 256 gb internal storage and 128 GB SD card and a few months ago I was notified that my internal storage space was almost full. It was very difficult for me to believe this, as I do not have nearly enough pictures to be taking that up (pictures and videos are routinely uploaded to Google Drive and are stored on external SD card), and all of my music is loaded onto an SD card.
I have cleaned recycle bin but something is getting piled up day by day reducing main storage of the phone base memory. When actually measured the folders account only 60 gb in base memory but there is very less free memory.
Looking at the storage analysis, the problem seems to come from a large amount of space being taken up in the "other" category, but I cannot figure out what is categorized under "other" or why it is filling. How do I identify these files and delete them if unwanted?
SD Maid Pro works great for me. I can confirm that it can delete files. Just did some storage management yesterday.

Good app...
The original samsung Device Care that was loaded with Pie cleans very well.
Don't update it... the new sanitized version sucks.
I put the phone in airplane mode when using it and keep it package block it otherwise. It's probably chinese spyware but works well if gagged, lol.
I use a tool called "DiskUsage". Try installing that from the play store and give it a shot...

Check browser caches/data etc.
Go down the line with all apps including system ones. Google is a hog. See who'd hogging the beef....
I use SD Maid Pro to clean, it does a good job.
Just about time to do a reload anyway. Be picky about the apps you put on the new load.

Use the file manager and sort by size, what's on top?
You need to manually hunt for it. Check app data especially Google's. SD Maid doesn't delete app data.
Get the Windows driver for it and view the Android on the PC. Play with it. Off load some of the files and watch how it behaves. Does internal memory unexpectedly keep being used up?
You can try clearing the system cache on the boot menu but I don't think it will help. Never hurts.
That copy sounds like it's getting old... maybe reload time anyway.
