Hi, I have recently installed the new HTC_SPA_2.03.412.2 rom wich cames with Radio_Signed_Diamond_52.51.25.26_1.09.25.23, and now the battery life has been reduced to less than 6hrs in stand by and it is heating a lot (previouslly it only got hot and with poor battery life when WIFI was on)
I have a US Diamond originally unlocked phone and here we have 850/1900 band.
Has anyone had similiar experience? Wich radio do you recomend?

I'm not sure but may be I'm living same problem its draining. I'm not sure because I started to use push mail same time with this Radio.
Pushmail+3G is really a horrible battery drain in general. No wonder. Data connection is up all the time and a PING is sent every 15 seconds from push server (if you use Z-Push as I do).
Option A: disable 3G for most of the time. If you surf enable 3G.
Option B: use 1.08.25.20 which gives me the best pushmail + 3G battery life so far. I always go back to 1.08.25.20
P.S. I think most people from the radio thread aren't using pushmail. So I would take their battery life tests with a huge grain of salt.
No, absolutely no battery drain.
(not more than others)
Here in Europe (Netherlands), same radio ver and Z-Push with 3G on.
If I do not receive / make calls I can _easily_ get 48hours out a full charge.
If I turn 3G off (as I also do most of the time) I can get 2 days without recharging even with busy work days (SMSing and calling quite a lot).
If your diamond is also generating a lot of heat, I'd say it isn't the reception or radio, but a process / program on the ROM is using the cpu at full strength all the time... then the battery won't last long whatever you do.
If I run TomTom on the battery (full time CPU and GPS usage) with the phone turned off, I can drain my full battery in 2 hours .
the radio works fine for me, and if you use push mail of course the battery will drain much faster...
what is push mail? download email with pop3?

you're very right dude
I went to Option B, battery performance is awesome, about 1,5 - 2 days.
Same here [Europe, HSDPA, Exchange mail sync always on]: awful battery life with 1.09.25.23 on the last Dutty and new PDACornerIllusion v.3 ROMs.
I usually go back to 1.08.25.20 after each new radio test but this time running 1.11.25.1 for the last few days and so far very happy with both signal level and battery life.

for me too , best radio for Romania
same here, 1.09 it's pretty good, with normal usage i can get to 3-3,5 days.
(some wifi, some push mail, sms & calls) but not through 3g, i've turn it off..
Romania/Vodafone
it drains battery rly fast...with high usage:listening musi for about 2hours with volume set to max, surfing internet during 30minutes, sending some sms...without 3g, then its down !
tomorrow it's my 4-th day, and yesterday i've listened to music like 30min, and sms/call /wifi , today i used the wifi like 30min, voice like 20min, am 5 sms...
@altcineva2009 : What rom are you using ? Where do you live (country) ? And is your 3G set to ON ?
i see they got some problems with the forum.
i'm using the latest official rom, country: Romania, operator: Vodafone, 3g is off, i turn it on only when i need it

I'm suspecting that this radio (1.09.25.23) is not a quad band radio, and it does not support 850MHz band. Open your dial pad and dial *#*#364#*#* and look at the "Band" field, it should show either "3: 850" or "2: PCS" (1900MHz band)
I have 1900MHz towers around my place in South Bay Area, but the signal is significantly weaker than the 850MHz ones. The end result is that it drains the battery faster.
what wastes more energy? having 4g on or having wifi on? i read the other threads but it had to do with 3g.. they said 3g wastes more power. is this the case with 4g as well?
thanks!
WiFi drains more battery always
that's from personal observation on all the phones i've owned in the past to now
as soon as you use WiFi the battery drains like there's no tomorrow
however this phone seems to handle it quite well
Yeah, 4G is a big battery hog. Wifi doesn't drain as much so long as you are connected to the same one for a while.
EDIT: just saw AllGamer's reply. Wifi really drains that much? I remember seeing the Droid Razr review saying that 4G eats batteries for breakfast. I might be wrong then!

They both drain battery about the same in my opinion.
When ever I can I turn both of them off to save battery.
It's really easy with the toggles that a couple roms have.
This phone is a BEAST!
From my personal experience wifi doesn't drain as much as 4g.

WiFi is far more efficient than the cellular network, and any usage will count against your allocated full speed GB's.. not a good thing.
don't have a sgsII yet but my experience with my vibrant is that wifi if connected uses less battery than hspa. If I'm not connected to a wifi network it drains the battery looking for one.

Forgive my ignorance but how come the usage of Wifi will count against your allocated full speed? My personal experience has been different .

I meant not using it will count against your data allotment
lol so there's no unanimous answer. i guess i'll just try to experiment a little and see which one uses more. thanks everyone.
4G uses more battery than WiFi
Definitely 4G... I sit on wifi all day and do not use much battery at all.

For sure. And after that I'd say HSPA+ > WiFi in terms of battery draining.
Wait, our phone runs off energy. Please tell me its kinetic?!

Solar backpack maybe ?
ok guys lets keep this topic sane, yeah it's funny, but lets go back on topic
it's a very valid & informative question
my personal experience shows me WiFi is worst, but others here says 3G/4G is even worse, but from personal experience 3G/4G is less than WiFi
so even i find that contradiction very interesting
the thing that could make a difference is the signal strength, perhaps better 3G/4G reception requires less power to maintain the connection?
possibly the same reason why WiFi always seems to do worse for me, because all the Starbucks, Airport, Hotel, Library, and other coffe/restaurant places that offer WiFi it's horrible, very slow, and hard to maintain signal, probably because tooooooooo many people are hogging it or maybe just because too many devices are bumping each other off the Router/WiFi AP on those establishments
Whenever I use wifi I turn my data off and gst better battery that way. If you have a bad data signal or wifi it'll take more battery to try to keep a connection.
In my Bio class I have terrible data signal and my battery will drain really fast with heavy use but if I turn on my wifi and turn off the data my battery iis way better

So after doing testing of my own I have come to the conclusion that 4G drains more battery than wifi. With wifi I can get about 14 hrs, but with 4G I only get 6-8 hrs.
This phone is a BEAST!
AllGamer, makes sense. If you have slower networks, your screen will be on for longer as you wait inbetween pages and downloads. Fast downloads => less screen time.
My personal experience with wifi vs THREE-g is that wifi eats my battery quickly (on all previous phones and there have been many, including present BB Torch for work). An d 3G doesn't drain as quickly.
However I agree wifi seems pretty sippy and efficient on the SGH-T989. My battery is learning. I am now getting 1 day and 13 hours of discharge time. Very moderate use. 4G. So yes there well may be a difference between 3 and 4G.
I will test wifi-only as soon as I can in the next few days.

Has anyone noticed more battery drain with your Gnex connected to 5Ghz Wifi N vs 2.4Ghz or is it just me?
thanks
No? Anyone? ...
5GHz is broken for most—so it’s unsurprising you haven’t gotten any responses.

5ghz is NOT broken for most. For some, sure. It is limited though.
I am connected daily to 5ghz. No drops, no excessive drain.
@the OP: I have no had worse battery life, but I do have weaker signal (which is to be expected). What channel are you using?

My 5Ghz connection to my Gnex is great but I do have the quite expensive Cisco E4200 router ...

I believe that it was the GLaDOS kernel that I was using which was the problem. Once I left the "stock" CyanogenMod 9 kernel I haven't had any more problems with battery drain. I'm not really sure if it was really GLaDOS on 5Ghz that was causing the excessive battery drain or not? While I was using 2.4Ghz i didn't have nearly the excessive battery drain that I did while on 5Ghz but i didn't properly troubleshoot while on GLaDOS either because I've been quite content with the "stock" CM9 kernel and getting better battery life.
Yes 5Ghz signal and range are less than the 2.4Ghz signal and range like you said that's to be expected ... I'm not sure the channel its set to auto i suppose i could switch to another channel but i won't because i'm quite content with my connection again
Thanks for the responses guys
Hello,
Since the last OTA(1.29.401.11) i have been experiencing a degraded wifi performance. Before the i had much stronger wifi signal and a faster connection. Now i'm lucky if i can reach the wifi at all.
Furthermore i experience batterydrain while wifi is on. Without wifi(3G is on) i have no problems with batterylife at all. I can go 16-17 hours without problems. However as soon as i turn wifi on i'm lucky to have more than 7 hours of battery time.
Any suggestions??
Have you tried the usual steps, forget network and re-add it, hard reset phone, reboot router. If you had no issues before the update these might work for you. There are lots of people been having issues with wifi from day one, me included. Hope you get it sorted.

I just switched from N9 to C. When browsing in Chrome on the N9 it was OK for a few minutes, but it'd start to heat up and lag. My Pixel C is faster for opening URLs and it doesn't overheat and start to lag.
Thanks. What about wifi issues and general lag when battery is low?

Where I use it, I have a strong WiFi signal, so no issues. Based on what I've read, the poor WiFi connectivity manifests itself with marginal signals.
I've only had it a week, but I generally don't let my battery drop below 30%. So I can't help you there.
Hello,
I have Pixel C since nearly its release date and my experience with Pixel C full stock is amazing, no wifi issues, performance is amazing and also battery life. Now I´m using Final realease of Dirty Unicorns and the general experience is even better.
Adding a note about wifi, I have the most crap router in my home (excuse the words but it´s a total ****ty router provided by Movistart here in Spain), and even with that router my WiFi is strong.
