[Q] Encryption is Broken on Rooted Galaxy S III

Hi, I've tried to search for info on this but most of the relevant things I find were pre-4.3, pre-KNOX, I don't want to ruin something so I'm going to post.
I would like to root and have encryption working, but since I rooted, the phone will not encrypt. I had tried to root after encrypting the phone, maybe that messed something up.
Here is exactly what I did:
-Got the OTA update to 4.3
-Turned on full device encryption. it worked fine.
-I then realized you have to use the same passcode for encryption and screen unlock which is a pain. Found an app which purports to allow you to use separate passwords for these: Cryptfs Password
-Requires root access.
-Ok, so I root the phone using Odin 3.07, CF auto root. (CF-Auto-Root-d2spr-d2spr-sphl710)
-Success in Odin, Reboot phone, enter my encryption password
-It hangs at this screen indefinitely: (forum won't let me link picture.... black background, green android robot split in half like gears/puzzle, no text)
-I can no longer use phone, so I do hard factory reset to remove encryption, phone boots up
-Now I update SuperSu in play store and it disables KNOX popups; root checker says root successful.
-So now I have a rooted phone, but no encryption.
-I try to re-encrypt phone.
-When I hit "encrypt", I get that same android robot screen for 30 seconds then phone reboots like nothing happened, asks for passcode. Obviously encryption didn't work.
????
What steps should I take so that phone is both rooted and can use encryption?
Tried some more things:
-Flashed the phone with the factory 4.3 ROM, MK3 everything...
-Now encryption worked again.
-I do a factory reset to remove encryption.
-This time I root with a different method: flash philz touch recovery, "DE-SAMSUNGNIZER_KNOX_REMOVAL_SCRIPT_V1.0", "UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.86"
-root checker says everything is successful
-I try to encrypt and it hangs at that screen with the android robot who is split in half, for 30 seconds, then phone reboots
Am I missing something?
Does rooting + 4.3 + encryption not work together?

Restore your phone to stock with Odin and the latest tar file.
Root your phone with CF Auto Root in Odin, be sure to enable usb debugging mode first.
After it's rebooted open supersu and it should ask you if want to disable Knox, select yes and change your supersu to grant and you can do whatever you're trying to do.
It seems as if Knox is keeping you from doing anything encryption wise as it's doing it's job protecting the security features of your phone.
After you've done all this, let me know.

Thanks so much for the reply, appreciate the help.
However, before I saw your post, I kept tinkering with different combinations of rooting and encrypting and I fixed it.
Here is what I did.
-Started fresh with stock 4.3 recovery/rom
-encrypted
-rooted with "saferoot", it was a .bat that I ran while the phone was on
-no problems encrypting or decrypting anymore
Now that I had root access, I could use the apps that allow you to change the encryption password independent of screen lock.

ZenFone 2e (ZE500CL) bypass pattern lock? WTF!!!

Hey guys, got a bit of an issue here...
Ive got a ZenFone 2e (ZE500CL) with a pattern lock.
If you boot into stock recovery, you only have the options to update from ADB, update from SD or reboot... Ive managed to boot into CWM through tethered recovery, and Ive done a factory reset. Ive also done Format/erase of userdata as well as cache... all of this to no avail. Ive searched for gesture.key through add, and for settings database to attempt to temporarily get into the phone by bypassing the pattern lock... All of this is to no avail.
I just need the phone cleared so it can be set back up by the next person to have the phone...
Any ideas at all? I dont mind being mildly dangerous with the phone (in regards to flashing firmware or whatnot... but I think that I can't just flash over the AT&T firmware with a rooted ROM without unlocking the boot loader....
Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm running out of things to try...
(FYI, the phone was left behind by a customer for repair about 6 months ago... they do not want to pay for the repair, so it will just go on eBay to attempt to recover some of the costs... the customer does not remember the pattern to unlock, and it does not seem to be associated with a google account... Frustrating, I know...)

got o following link and flash raw firmware..
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/guide-bring-to-life-zenfone-2-ze500cl-t3503144
So... I actually got this fixed before seeing your fix... it was a little bit of a circuitous fix but...
ended up formatting all partitions, including system.. which left me with a completely blank phone... Pattern lock kept coming back no matter what I did.. Then:
1) used CWM tethered to boot to CWM...
2) adb shell to the phone to delete SDCARD "folder" (not sure why, but you can't push to CWM's sdCard "folder"... fought with it for about an hour) (command, if anyone needs it is "rm -rf sdcard")
3) "mkdir sdcard" through adb
4) sent SuperSu to the phone
5) Flash SuperSu
6) Reboot
(not sure 4-6 were necessary)
6) repeat Step 2-3
7) push WW firmware
8) flash WW firmware...
9) Wondeer where my Saturday went
10) profit
effing Asus/AT&T could make this a lot GD easier by including a "factory reset" option in their recovery... just saying.

Huawei Mate SE stuck on "just a sec" after factory reset with FRP lock on

So, being the stupid person I am I broke my Mate SE one day after purchase ._. I'm posting my entire process just in case anything helps.
I started off by updating to the latest ROM and then unlocking the bootloader, which went fairly well, then flashed TWRP. A lot of versions I found didn't work(Bootloader says Func NO: 11 (recovery image) and Error NO: 2 (load failed!)), but I got a working version here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-7x/development/oreo-twrp-complete-backup-t3764500 .
After that, I installed Magisk, which went well, then Xposed framework inside Magisk, which put my phone in a bootloop. I didn't know what to do, so I went with a factory reset[terrible idea]. Now, my phone has the FRP lock on, and the android setup is stuck on a "just a sec" page, right after selecting language and wifi, so I can't login to my google account to disable the FRP lock.
I tried flashing, but apparently the FRP lock stops me from being able to flash anything inside the bootloader. I do still have my TWRP recovery and a backup of the kernel and ramdisk(sadly nothing else useful, although I do also have dts, dfx, vendor_image, oeminfo and secure_storage) but restoring them or wiping the system again has no effect(still stuck on "just a sec").
After some google searching someone in a thread said that I should use stock recovery to wipe factory data(by restoring the stock recovery in TWRP), and I would be able to get past the "just a sec" problem, but I am reluctant because if it doesn't work, I would permanently lose my TWRP recovery with no way to flash it back(because of that FRP lock). I also tried installing update.app and other stock ROMs from various sources using TWRP, but all of them had a "check_write_data_to_partition, write data error" error. I'm not sure if it's related to FRP.
I think my next course of action is to either a) disable FRP in recovery, b) bypass the setup screen or c) install some ROM on it and somehow bypassing the check_write_data_to_partition error, but I'm not sure how to do any of these. Any ideas or suggestions? Thanks.

Thanks for the help! It worked, and the bootloader says FRP unlocked. It didn't help the "just a sec" issue, but since I can use fastboot flash, I might be able to flash a new rom in it and just ditch EMUI[probably]. I'll play around with it a bit. Again, thanks a lot for your help!
I got everything working now! Just in case anyone had the same "just a sec" issue: it was fixed by flashing stock recovery then doing a factory reset there(I'm not sure how that's different from wiping dalvik/cache/data/internal storage in twrp, but it makes a difference apparantly). Just flashing custom ROMs didn't solve the problem. After that I installed magisk, and then installed this version of xposed: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=76582399&postcount=11 . I installed the v90-beta3 version before which caused the bootloop, but it is fixed in the next version. Magisk has some issues so the magisk manager can't start with internet(adb logcat says there's a NullPointerException in com.topjohnwu.magisk.database.RepoDatabaseHelper.removeRepo) but frankly I don't need to open it with internet anyways. Now I have everything I need on my new phone! Thanks to mrmazak for pointing me to the right direction.

Android 11 Beta 2 Stuck! HELP

Hey! Need a little help. I updated to Android 11 Beta 2. Now my phone is stuck on a boot loop. A li'l different though, phone boots up normally and stays on the lockscreen and alive. Can receive calls. But once I unlock with the pattern it shows ' Phone is starting' works for a good 2 seconds and then ends up on infinite bootloop until I Power down. How do I access my files on PC ? If I can get just few files out of it then maybe I can perform a factory reset . Please HELP!

I use this tool in my computer to update my phone.
Make sure to follow and read the instructions.
Since you're phone is in boot loop, put your phone in into bootloader
https://flash.android.com/welcome?continue=/custom
Facing the same trouble, did it help?
Hi, I finally managed to solve this!! Was able to get the phone working with data intact.
So I got exactly the same problem yesterday and was looking around for a solution when I bumped on this thread, the solution suggested to use Android Flash Tool can work only if the bootloader is already unlocked, USB debugging is on and you edit the flash.bat file to remove -w from the command line, which would not work in my case since my bootloader is locked and unlocking through ADB would wipe all data
So the only good solution is to do an OTA UPDATE USING ADB SIDELOAD, I just downloaded the OTA file, connected the phone to computer, booted into recovery and used ADB to sideload the OTA and boom, the phone is its pristine self again, with ALL DATA intact

Weird recovery of a crashed 8 pro.

Popping in to give some feedback as always with my stuff.
Last night while using lucky patcher something must have happened it didn't like because I lost my wallpaper and my call history, at that point I figured she needed a restart. This brought me too a boot that would crash 40 seconds later and boot into whatever it was explaining boot issues
I tried clearing cache in the stock recovery but that didn't help
So I wiped the system settings only
Phone restarted as a fresh phone and is running great! First thing I did was look for and launch majisk, it needed to install some stuff but the damn think came back fully rooted!!!
So if all else fails wipe system in factory recovery.
It saved me a good bit of time unlocking bootloader and all that jazz
Hope it helps someone else when they get to a loop
Merry Christmas all

You can do a full Factory Reset and remain rooted. Since the boot.img is patched and flashed to your device. A full reset wont lock your bootloader too.
Only if you use MSM Tool or relock the bootloader manually (and flash a non rooted boot img beforehand) you relock your device.
