Whats a Good AOD App? - Huawei Mate 20 X Questions & Answers

Hi guys.. I've tried using an AOD app called 'always on amoled.' Its a good AOD app. Unfortunately it drains battery 3% every hour even when I set the screen to forbid showing AOD except for notifications. Can someone suggest a good AOD app thats has a good battery footprint?

It doesn't drain that much .. your third party app will drain 2x more.. what u want everything to show for? so if the ''aod'' is ONLY, then why using always on display you don't need to use it when u want to show everything always on serves only for time n date ... nothing else .. later naively ppl started complain ooh there is no msg notification or mail or even more so huawei added it later on update.. and ppl STILL not satisfied
this oh and that too... so everything?? so don't use it then at all ..

The application does the following:
1. When your phone receives a notification, it switches the screen on and displays a notification. The notification bounces around every 3 seconds. This will guarantee using different LEDs so that the same ones won't be burned out.
2. You can customize whether to have a dot or an icon for each type of supported notification. Users may also customize the colors of these icons/dots.
3. NoLED will work with SMS/MMS, Gtalk, Gmail, Missed calls, Voicemail, Calendar and K-9 (email client) without any additional permissions. Any other 3rd party software (e.g. Whatsapp, Email app, Yahoo Mail and Hotmail) will need to be checked under Monitored Apps and will require granting Accessibility rights to NoLED.
4. The app runs as a service, after installing, you have two ways to activate the app. (a) by restarting. (b) by loading the widget into your home screen and clicking on it.
5. To get rid of the notification screen, you may use the home or the back key. You can enable dismissal via more keys in the Miscellaneous submenu. Once your notifications are dismissed, all notifications disappear and will not come back up.
I have also logged the touch drivers and saw that although I'm displaying a black screen and setting flags to not respond to touch messages, android is still receiving touch messages when you touch any spot on the screen. This, I imagine, consumes resources! So I disabled the touch drivers when the black screen is active. Dismissing the notifications should reactive the touch drivers. If your screen is unresponsive to touch even after the notification screen is dismissed, a simple restart should take care of it. There is also an option to completely disable that feature. The touch drivers are only disabled on the Samsung Galaxy S variants, all other devices are still receptive to touch events.
Now the touchscreen drivers were a lot easier to mess around with. The sourcecode given by samsung helped me achieve the activation/deactivation of the screen. Things are not the same with the capacitive buttons. You'll notice that when the black screen is on, if you touch any of the soft buttons, they'll light up (although am suppressing them programatically). On some other devices like the Nexus S, these backlights cannot be switched off once the screen is turned on programatically. This is a bug from Google and more info is in the FAQ.

When I used NoLED with the NS it was kind of tough on the battery. That being said, this version has been updated from the one I used so really there is only one way to find out.
I've been using NoLED since I got my s2 nearly 2 months ago. I've never had a problem and my battery life is fine, usually over 50% after a full days usage (which for me is moderate). Love it!
BTW I run cognition ROM so that helps with the battery life.

This will cost alot of your battery. If you receive a message and noled stay on like for 1 hour, i believe you lose more then 10% per hour.
I'll will turn my screen on from time to time, thats much better for the battery

Correct, it drains like crazy. Only way to minimize the drain is to check the phone what message/call you just missed soon after it occured. When you leave it with a NoLED notification active there's a lot of drain.
So it's only handy for people who check their phones regularly.
Been using NoLED for a long time as well. Haven't noticed any excessive drain. Using official KF3 (NEE) and it lasts for two days easily with my standard use and NoLED active.
I've used NoLED on my previous phone (Samsung Galaxy Spica), and I did notice extra battery drain.
For me this is not really an alternative to BLN. OK, it does show notifications when your screen would normally be off, but NoLED still activates the whole screen, whereas BLN only lights up the 'buttons' below the screen. Somehow this has to be more energy consuming.

[APP]Screen Filter. (Adjust your brightness of screen and save battery)

Hi guys.
I always feel that my display eats the most of my battery..I know what do you expect from S.AMOLED Plus displays..Gorgeous i know but eats your battery..Anyway great app on the market that i have started to use and it works wonders for me and would like to spread the word, if you don't already know about about this app..
Link is this https://market.android.com/details?id=com.haxor&hl=en
Apologies if you already have it, but i just thought if there are more people like myself who want to save a bit of juice on your battery this is a great app to use specially if your brightness is abit to much as well.
Cheers

I liked it but found out that if set too low (as it is very efficient) it can be tricky to find the icon or anything else for that matter so eventually I stopped using it

You always get the icon on the top left hand corner. if you bring down the drop down menu you could access the app from there.

"AOE" Notification Light Alternative

This app is a great substitute for OnePlus 6T and no LED. Allows you to get colorful notifications from your favorite apps.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
App Developer: jeaddh alworood
Tips and Tricks: Things that work for me
1. Battery Optimization don't optimize
2. Do not check my lock screen as background. ( helps get customized app color )

Make sure you have the app set to Don't Optimize if you haven't already. I'm not sure why it isn't working for you and not sure what you have for set up.
It is an amazing app!
I'm using this, had figured it out even before this thread.
Turn on 'New Notifications' in Ambient Display and also do not optimise the app.
It works. And it's the coolest alternative to a notification LED.

On my 6T, it drained 6% in 3 hours..also, fingerprint unlock is not smooth with this app.
Sometime noticed issues with auto brightness turned off automatically after unlocking screen.

Mine uses little or no battery at all. Right now I have been up for 13 hours and AOE doesn't even register and I have been getting all my notifications
Use it for 2 days because I thought plus beat not working anymore ( I accidentally turn off lock screen notifications).
AOE working well but lack of feature I want - battery full notification.
Now back to plus beat.

Just installed this and it appears to be working. This is the first app that I see doing what I wanted (a very unobtrusive way of telling if notifications have arrived).
Did not need to to activate "New Notifications" under Ambient Display for it to work. Are you sure it's needed?
I'm not managing to customize the color of the colored stripes according to the app sending a notification. Not that I care too much, on Nexus 6P LED color was mostly irrelevant to me. I just needed a visual cue that something needed my attention if I missed the audio one.

I got it working but it times out after 1 minute. I have my display set to sleep after 1 minute of inactivity but if this follows that rule it's kind of useless for notifications.
Maybe I'm missing a setting?
Edit: found the setting I was missing.

What setting? I also see this behaving strangely. It seems that, as other apps, it gets killed in the background even if one opts not to battery optimize it.
OP behaves exactly like Apple in this regard: they get to decide how I should use *my* smarphone.

These right here let it run indefinitely. I tested last night and it was telling me I had a notification until I actually dismissed it after 30 minutes.

Yeah, I set all that. Results have been inconsistent as far as working after long inactivity is concerned.
I wish OP had thought of baking something similar in their OS, when they decided to take away the LED.

I agree, I wish OnePlus had baked something like this into the stock ROM. My second screenshot doesn't look like it posted for some reason so here it is.
5% battery usage. Not cool. This with "Stable" edge styling, which should be the best for battery.
Uninstalling.

Alternatives to Notifybuddy

Since MIUI 11, a lot of us apparently have trouble making Notifybuddy work properly on our devices.
As it seems like dev of the app has not time / doesn't want to fix the app for MIUI users, I was wondering what was your go to app for screen notifications.
I tried several that don't work either, so I ended using "always on amoled" (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.newgen.alwayson).
I spent some time configuring it in the most minimalistic way and it does the job.
What are you using ?

But I must say I like seeing the app notification icon on my screen all the time and glowing edges for a small amount of time (and possibly edge reminder every 5 or 10 min)

Solution :- manually click app on every boot
Or I can provide solution by Tasker but then ppl don't like tasker
Yeah best thing about root is the charge disable capability.
I've been using the Advanced Charging Controller Magisk Module with the AccA frontend app to limit my charge which has been working flawlessly.
I'm curious if your app is a more streamlined version of that?

No, I don't need to set up any dj's in order for to limit my phone to 80% charge. I get what you are trying to do, but just because it is easier to set up does not mean it is necessarily better than AccA. Try to create something that has not already been done, for example the fingerprint reader only works, when you have already pressed the power button etc.. Since alot of custom roms would need that app.

You should improve your attitude. No one is saying that your app is bad, but creating "clones" of other apps is not going to convince users to stop using well known solutions that were created before your apps. All I am saying is that you should try to create something original, be calm and respectful with others and trust me, you will become a much better developer.
