Newbie..help please

I really just wanna know how to get started with how to flash. Also..I have a problem with my phone showing unread text messages that don't exist. I found a file that is supposed to fix it but..it doesn't say how/where to put it on my phone..and then how to use it. If there are tutorials on these types of things..can someone point me in the right direction? I'm pretty good with learning..just need to know where to start???

Did you try a Forum search first? This is a pretty common problem.

by flash I assume you mean ROM's? this is well covered with detailed instructions and tutorials look at the stickys on the touch pro 2 custum rom subforum. pay attention that you dont flash gsm rom's to cdma device. cdma device is the sprint/verizon tp2. use the search function
for your phantom message try going to all messages from the message tab and just open everything i have had to do that a couple times.
start off by looking for hardspl on your device thats the first step. from there you can go down the rabbit hole as far as you want. have fun

see..that's my main problem. I found this file..I know how to search for pretty much anything..what I can't find is what to do with it. It's a .exe file..what to do with it??..there are no instructions on how to install it..that's my main problem

Mobile ap

I'm going to root my epic 4g tomorrow just for mobile ap. I'm anoob and have never done anything on this phone before. I have searched the forums on how to add the mobile ap and the only thing I find is,root your epic then flash mobile ap. So my question, how do I flash ap after rooting?

well u really need to root for anything also u wanna do ........ but if u need wirless tether just download it from market and u are good to go.. no need of any flashing!!

I am needing to "flash" ap for a tablet I got. The regular tether won't work because of adhock. I am going to try and do the 1 click root and there are pretty good step by step directions for that. I'm just not sure what "flash" means exactly and how to do that for mobile ap. I've looked and can't find the directions like the rooting process has. I would like to learn and maybe do some new roms and kernals down the road too.

Continue to reaf up before you gret into any of that stuff. You can seriously damage your phone. just do your homework. We are not here to spoon feed you. Im not trying to be rude
Follow the instructions for the 1 click root and clock work mod recovery found in the wiki. Then follow the instructions in each thread that you wanna flash. In order to flash anything you need to be in cwm (clockwork mid recovery). To access cwm after installing you power off your phone. Once off you press and hold volume down, camera, and power untill you enter recovery. cwm has green text and that's where you wanna be. Samsung recovery had blue text you don't wanna be there. once in cwm you goto instal zip from sd card and choose the zip of what you wanna flash. Once your done flashing reboot your phone and you should be good. If you don't indeed my instructions then you shouldn't be modifing your phone to begin with. Like I said before read, read and re-read

I never mind helping but sometimes it gets frustrating ,when someone says whats Odin.
That lets me know they want a hand holding session.
Ill walk them through the process but at least read the wiki.

one of the things i dont understand is people want to wireless tether and say they have to root, this phone is capable of doing it out of the box. why root to do that?

Boomin - when you tether with the apps from market they are ad hock and not all devices work with that. If you root and use mobile ap you can tether tablets, other phones, 360's just more devices work.

I know some of you were able to learn all this without needing help or anything, but for me I get a little confused sometimes. I did read the wiki, that's how I knew what I needed, I read everything on 1 click rooting and 50 some pages on ap. The problem I get being new with this is some of the threads can be 100's of pages and by the time you get to page 10 the way to do what you're looking for has already changed 15 times, purple call the same thing different names, new things are added to download or flash and stuff like that. But believe me I understand why some get irritated. Anyway I was able to get it done and thanks for the help sorry for the ignorant question,but I'm sure it won't be my last one.

I'm glad you got it. Where here to help bu we can only hold your hand for so long. just do what you did for mobile ap everytime you got a question. Read, read, read some more. Search both xda and google. Search again then still nothing then ask.

[Q] Accidentally removed motoblur accounts with root uninstaller pro!!

Today i accidentally removed motoblur accounts from my rooted defy with root uninstaller pro and did not back up before uninstalling.I am no longer able to access accounts in the settings menu.Im getting a force close and do not want to factory reset my handset because im afraid i will not be able to get past the initial motoblur accounts setup.How can i reinstall this app without doing a factory reset.ihave another moto rooted phone with motoblur and was thinking sticking my sd card in it uninstalling motoblur accounts saving to sd/backup/apk..stick the sd back in the defy and try to reinstall.dont think this will work but if anyone has a solution let me know.Thanks

dont factory restore ! it only wipes user data so accounts would not be restored and as you say you will not be able to complete setup

Yeah thats what i thought.My phone still works awesome but i cant factory reset.Is there a way to reinstall motobull**** version 3.6.360 back on my defy? Been looking around but found nothing yet.Well if theres no solution it gives me more reason to buy an Atrix.

How would getting another phone prevent problems caused by the user?

Hey Naenee getting another phone will not prevent user error.If you read the post properly it says the app was removed by accident.It had been backed up with TB before but when i went to reinstall blur accounts it was corrupt.Hey ish happens....So if you cant help or have a solution keep it moving...Anyway im [email protected]/62 using Adw launcher/honeycomb theme with tango video chat,tikl ptt,barnacle wifi tether,etc etc etc and my defy runs amazing.No fc's or reboots no problems at all.I dont use blur for anything.I know blur still lurks in the background but i have no use for it except to push my email and its still working properly.My only problem is not being able to change or manage accounts and my check for updates is no longer working..The Atrix is an amazing piece of hardware ive had my eye on for a while and want bad!!! I ask again can i reinstall blur 3.6.360 on my defy?? Somebody has to know...

Theres always an option of reflashing the .sbf, if u cant get the backup from someone else

What specific APK would that be?

Fast-Droid... You should post progress and whether/how this problem was fixed and all steps taken! This way the whole community can learn from all of our mistakes!! That is indeed the point of these forums. The devs and senior members go out of their way to help us and then they say here I am giving you tools and ideas to help you, let me know if it works.... and then no response on your end? That makes this thread completely useless other than your personal gain... Don't take offense, it's just that these good people have helped me more than once and all they want in return is status updates: What worked and what didn't so that the whole community can learn what makes these phones "tick"

acctually,you can flash ur phone via RSD LITE with ur ROM's fully Sbf.
No need to wipe,and u'll find everything is OK

Hello fello defiers, sorry for the absence but i been busy with work,wifey,kids....Anyway i got my phone back up after semi bricking it by flashing the wrong SBF to fix my accounts mess,yet the solution was rather simple........First id like to say if you received the T-MO blur-3.6.360 update like i did by OTA before i fubared my phone(The white light black screen syndrome) The only thing that worked for me after flashing almost every SBF i could possibly find was to use the T-MO signed leaked froyo 2.2.1-3.4.2.... I used RSDlite 4.9 with the latest moto drivers and it booted right up first try.All seems to be working fine but I'm not getting 3G now....However I've already found the solution for it i just haven't had the time to try it yet.....I also noticed some1 just put up a signed froyo 2.2.2 i haven't gotten around to yet that might possibly work....Anyway Id like to give a shout out to Beach-Head and all the other Doc Browns on XDA for helping me fix the major malfunction with my flux capacitor lol...(scratches head and ponders when phones will manifest worm holes).... If it werent for XDA and the info available on here my phone would still be a useless $400 waterproof brick.Thanks!!

Flashing Led Flash ???

Hi to all...
maybe some of you are confused about the title i had wrote
to be clear then, it was my camera led flash that sometimes flashing along with some notification related is going on my phone
i don't know why but i think it was something that triggered it because i like to mod my phone, so i just do RUU to get fresh phone again but guess what, it still there
it annoyed me, not much but it gets to my nerves sometimes
anyone maybe know how to work this around?
i try to flash various ROM from my collection but it's still there!
please help me

I'm not sure what files I need i don't really see much about it i think somethings corrupted in mines.I'm not rooted if it matters I said my problem here:http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-g4/help/set-lock-screen-access-security-t3523573 if anyone knows an alternate way to fix it I'm all ears
