it seem that a new function present in the nexus 6... is similar to the motorola active display..
but in the artiche of android police appear a nexus 4 with this function... ..it strange.. the nexus 4 don't have particolar sensor or micro processor for the use of active display..
i hope that there will be interessant news for moto g users with android lollipop :fingers-crossed:

Ambient Display will not save battery. Standby time is shorter with that option on.
Here is the Nexus 6 specs describing the Ambient Display.
Battery**
Standby time (Ambient Display on ) up to 250 hours
Standby time (Ambient Display off) up to 330 hours

Don't get your hopes up, it seems it's like "peek" requiring gyroscope detection.
yep it is obvious... these apps aren't battery firendly.. and it require for the best performance an amoled display...
but if it is compatible with our smartphone..i think that is an interssant way to organise our notification.
it is true.. but it can work only with the proximity sensor in our moto g..

You do realize the actual length of standby time that is right? lol Pretty sure power can be obtained again within that time frame
Honor 8 Pro is an incredible device, which ticks all the boxes. But since it has a 2k display and a v8 engine in it, it chunks on the 4k battery pretty quickly.
If there is some way, we could lower the resolution to 1080 similar to that on S8 and S8+, I think the battery life will almost double!
Inputs?!

You can there is option in battery section when needed it automatically lower the resolution !!!
We actually don't know when it gets activated. It would be better if the user is given better control of the resolution! Like to lock the display on 1080 to preserve battery and then to switch the display to 2k while playing HD games or watching VR
Charging time more

Is Battery Charging take more time, when screen resolution is reduced?

like others have mentioned, ideally, we want something we can manually control. like what is found on many other phones with 2K screen... users can manually select between 2k, 1080p and even 720p.
right now, the one under the battery/ power savings... we don't even know when it gets activated... or if it works (coz honestly, i can't tell any diff between 1080p and 2K on such small screen).
Hi,
Although there is a option to lower screen resolution to reduce battery consumption, we don't know when it exactly kicks into play or if it does at all. I suspect it only reduces the strength of the pixels.
We have raised this query in the recent meeting which was held in Chennai. They took it with a nod, not sure if it will be implemented. We did point out as to how S8 and S8+ does it.

You will see when an app which sucks too much battery , during that the pixel will be decreased.
PPSSPP needs this...
Current emui 5.1 low res option are not decrease resolution to 1080p I think. Its just reduce the pixels a bit and automatically activated only on power hungry apps. Logically if change resolution at least your screen will flicker a bit. Dont worry upcoming emui 8 will have option to truly change your resolution either 2k, 1080p and even 720p. I think its coming to our phone in January.

Does lowering screen resolution from 2k to 1080p even save that much battery power?

What is your location for a start, and what provider or carrier you use?
I know at 1080p, there's a combination of OIS and EIS but at 4k, is there an option to turn on EIS?
What's screen brightness like? Can you compare to any current phones on market??

Enjoying the phone?
I was very excited about it - more so after the release of both the OnePlus 6 and the Xiaomi Mi 8, neither of which pleased me.
How thick is the U 12 plus in the hand?
Hi, is there option to set default memmory to external sdcard (microsd)

the u12 plus does feel a little thick and heavy than many similar size phones. but its not something that will make you uncomfortable. i got to used to it in a day or so. OP6 is definitely lighter.
I really am enjoying the phone and the squeeze gestures do make so much sense in real life. the camera is also pretty awesome, i dont do much videos but photos are great and pretty color accurate.

Is there another phone you could relate the vibration to? How does it feel? Like a buzz or thud?
How has the dynamic range performance been at night? Does it tend to blowout lights if you don't tap to expose? I notice this in the 10 and U11 and I'm wondering if HTC has improved it.
How are the fake buttons in practice? Right now it sounds like it's very unreliable.
How is standby battery life? This also sounds like a major issue.

the vibration is pretty decent i must say. Doesnt rattle like the Razer Phone. But the haptic feedback on edge sense is very good close to Apple's
At night shots, its hit or miss. sometimes it takes stunning photos sometimes it is as average as my OP6. Yes it tends to blowour lights even on day shots sometimes.

to my surprise i love the fake buttons and the haptic feedback! only gripe is its little too sensitive for my liking
Battery life on WiFi is good! If your mostly on WiFi you will get 5-6 Hours SOT over 18 Hours
Standby on LTE for me isnt great. Yesterday i was mostly on LTE and got 4 Hours SOT 16 hours total usage with 5% remaining
Not too shody but i think 3500Mah should do little better
Is it possible to press two of the fake buttons simultaneously? ? Or you have an idea how it OS possible to boot into Bootloader/Download Mode without adb?
Compared to op6 is it as smooth and fast? As I understand from your post above the op6 has a better battery life.
Q on the LED notification --- is it multi-colored (even if we have to use a third party app such as lightflow) or is it only green & orange?

OP6 is smoother more often than not. But day to day usage there is nothing different. Haven't had any hiccups so far. Battery life is about the same as OP6. My OP6 on LTE almost gives me same battery life. On WiFi HTC U12+ gives better SOT than OP6. Will post some stats tomorrow.

Idk about rom but I'm gonna tell you that always on display on LCD screen is not efficient.
The whole screen stays lit so it consumes battery equal to ehen you're using your device, also it keeps the cpu awake.
Its just more harm than good :/

well, the battery would be significantly worse if the display would be alway on, it doesnt make any sense for non amoled displays, other than that, there is a risk of burn in or other damage if display would be on all the time, its just stupid to do this and i doubt that anyone will ever include this to any rom

not sure if RN5 can do it. my friend tried to port to LG G4 from G5 he says that kernels need to support it or it wont work. and as others says its more harm then good.
Thanks you guys for your comments, I think I will pass on the always on display. I don't want to ruin my device
It's possible.. because I have used always on display on Moto g first generation with AOSPExtended Oreo ROM but later on developer removed that option.

You can download a 3rd party app. But that's gonna kill your battery. AOD is not recommended for LCD devices.
found one it's ok battery it doesn't matter as huawei Pro's has this feature and it obviously draning battery more as well on them so it is equal ..

It could drain more on LCD devices as you are still using the whole backlit display as opposed to OLED that you only use the needed part for AOD. But still, AOD is a cool feature to have
