If I buy the phone from ATT and unlock the phone, will the device can be used as dual SIM? Or it will only support single sim?
It depends on the phone if it's dual sim or single sim variant. It's a hardware limitation not software.

Currently it is not dual SIM. There is an embedded esim which would allow dual SIM. But Samsung has not enabled this feature on any phone yet. IDK what they're waiting for tho, iPhone and pixel are offering it.

having 1 sim card slot and 1 esim doesnt make it a dual sim phone. most likely when u activate esim, you will loose access to the simcard.
Here is an example of my SM-G985F/DS. This phone is a dual sim phone, and it has 1 esim.
I tested the following combination.
2 sim cards- No problem.
2 sim cards & 1 esim profile. The phone makes me choose between SIM2 (the simcard in SIM2 slot on the simcard tray) or esim profile. I can have either SIM2 active (esim will be grayed out) or esim active (SIM2 grayed out).
1 SIM Card, 1 eSIM Profile and 1 MicroSD Card. No problem. This is my current configuration.
SIM 2 and the eSIM shares the same IMEI.
SO unless the phone has 2 imei numbers, you will not be able to utilize 1 sim card and 1 esim to enable dualsim. Most likely you will be asked to choose between esim or simcard.
The best person to ask about this would be ATT customer service or the retail shop.
Also the esim seems to be a telco controlled thing. From personal experiance, esim on S20 works fine in Singapore and Malaysia. I am not sure about the others.

What?!
Right now the phone has 1 sim and 1 sd. If esim is activated by Samsung, you would be able to use esim and 1 sim. Making it dual SIM... IDK what the long explanation was about, but it can be dual SIM if Samsung enabled it.

Please check if your phone has 2 unique imei numbers. If it only has 1, even with esim activated it is still a 1 sim phone.
If it has 2 unique imei numbers, then yes you'll have dual sim functionality when samsung activates the esim on your phone.

Yes. Inside the phone software shows 1. But on the box ur shows it has an eid, which is the activation code for an esim. It's just not active.

Correct, but it does mean he has a E-Sim as he was asking! EID ,is an embedded identity document.
IMEI a unique number to identify a phone.

And having only 1 sim and 1 esim doesn't make it a dual sim phone if it can only connect to one sim at a time.

Hi, it can connect to both at same time. I have 1 physical SIM, 1 E-Sim and an SD card . All running perfectly fine. . Eventually physical SIM cards will be redundant once more operators start using the technology.

Hi.
That's because similar to me, you have a dual sim model.
I'm using a sim card, an esim and a sd card too.

Hello, i have the sam A705FN (non dual sim varient, however other network providers here do have the DS varient)
When i took this phone i assumed i would get th Dual sim varient.
I see on my sim tray i have shouldhve had space for 3 cards (one last slot is blanked out)
Now my question is, if i get a ds varient sim tray will i be able to ise dual sim, even if i need to somehow flash the ds firmware.
And does the fn varient even have the hardware to support dual sim

I don't think you can use dual sim even if you used the tray form a dual sim model. If the phone only shows 1 IMEI number the device probably only has 1 sim card slot.

true but you can trick the phone by adding a 2st imei from another phone , also the firmware check of your hardware is compatible , so if it detect a dual sim it could theorically work and the settings would appear again or not be greyed out anymore

Yeah you can't be sure. My guess would be that it does not have a second sim card reader because it doesn't make sense for a company to make hardware and disable it through software (Even though it could and has happened). Cant be sure until somebody does a teardown comparison.

Hey, sorry for only getting back to you now, life has been busy..
but here's what's happened since i last posted.
I have an a70 from MTN-SA (mobile telecommunications network south Africa)
it is a single sim tray.
i used a sim tray from the Samsung galaxy a50 Dual sim variant, with no second sim detected unfortunately.
i wonder if the device has the hardware to support a second sim. If so, i do have an extra IMEI number to use that i got off a cheapo dual sim china phone.

i wondered the same thing.. But there is a dual sim variant of this device out in the wild.
My country doesn't allow dual sim (only with 2 specific carriers [cell-c & Telkom Mobile (8ta)])
so it's weird that they would make two separate hardware revisions for the same market?
Can anyone try to enable dsds using *#*#4636#*##. DSDS is dual SIM support, using physical and e Sims, I don't have 2 SIM cards. So maybe one should try and confirm if it works or not.
I have Fi esim and Verizon. Everything works ?.
Good to know this works. Has anyone been able to get an esim activated on Verizon? I have two Verizon lines and would love to use both on my Pixel 3aXL. Verizon chat tells me they only activate esim for iPhones.
Hi All,
I just took delivery of the S20+
Mine came with 1 esim, 1 dedicated simcard slot (SIM1)and 1 simcard/sdcard (SIM2) hybrid tray.
went ahead to sign up for esim for the network i use most often.
Now, i have a question. What happens if i factory reset the phone. will the esim "profiles" remain or do i need to drop by the network provider and request another esim activation code?
This is because i have the habit of performing a factory reset on my android phones after a major firmware update, or every 6 months (or if i feel the phone feel sluggish).
Any idea guys? i cant seem to find information on this anywhere. is the esim data stored on the phone data or in the esim itself.
aah.. found it.. if you go to the setting to factory data reset, at the bottom there is a checkbox to select if you want to retain the esim. tick if you do not want to.. and it is unticked by default (keep your esim data)

My unlocked S20+ didn't come with a sim card. I used the Verizon sim card from my S9+ in it. Works perfectly. If you go to Verizon and ask for a sim card for your new phone, they charge you like $40 for activation. I paid nothing.

U can check it out on your phone settings.
Go to settings - connections - SIM card manager.
If your device has esim, you will see SIM cards section and a Esim section.

That's pretty neat having both hybrid and esim.
Essentially you could have 1 esim and sim card plus sd card.
I've ordered mine from Vodafone hope it has the same options.

vodafone UK doesnt support esim on their phones yet (and they didnt sound keen on changing that soon) which is crazy but i think they are afraid people will start using dual networks and they're not happy about that
Glad I bought S20 plus rather then waiting for the ultra version.
More sleek and practical.
Vodafone phones come with esim option also for those who might be wondering.

Nope. Only 2. But u can have both sims and registered esim profile in the phone but at any time only 2 can be active.
To be precise only esim and sim1 or sim1 and sim2. Sim2 can't be used together with esim.

I bought an S20 plus from Samsung and on the box there are two IME numbers. Just one IME is showing in settings. Does this mean it is software disabled? If so I wonder when, and if, the will activate it.

Will be useful to know which variant of s20+ you have there. Samsung released many variants.
Single sim
Dual sim
Dual sim with esim
This 3 in 4g and 5g.
Mine is 4g dual sim with esim.
Sm-g985f/ds
Sim2 slot shares same imei with esim.
So I'm using sim1, microsd card and an esim.
Imei won't show up on settings unless it's active. As in having a sim card in slot 2 or esim profile on.
If u don't have esim set up you'll only see the add mobile plan option if your phone supports esim.

Can you screen shot and share here the page? If your phone has esim support, it would show there.

Esim is what I was be referring to. Apologies if I wasn't clear on that. And no there is no sim card manager. The two IME numbers tell me it is capable of it at least. It's just not turned on
Has anyone attempted making their single SIM GP6 or GP6P Dual SIM just by changing the tray?
J/Wing before I order tray and find out....

The 6 Pro (and I believe the 6) are dual sim, its just one sim is an eSim, not a physical sim. Changing the tray will not make any difference as there is not 2 physical sim readers in the phone.

On OS's like LOS and StratiX I believe it reads 2 IMEI and 1 ESID for eSIM.
It should also be kept in mind that Google Pixels do not have "true" dual sim (sim/sim or sim/esim in this case), but "Dual SIM Dual Standby" (DSDS). So even if the in-built sim card/scanner would be replaced, that doesn't solve the software level limitation to DSDS (only one sim can be used for calls, and the other one for sms and vice versa).
I'd like to buy a OnePLus 11 from amazon but does it support dual active sims? I'd like to be able to load balance my data between the 2 sims from different carriers. Is this possible?
Or combine the data throughput from 2 sims from the same provider. Is this possible?

Yes it does. You can use two physical sims or one physical and one esim. I use two physical sims. Verizon and T-Mobile.
As for how dual sims work in Android... You select which sim you want to use data one. You don't use data from both sims at the same time. Though, you can easily pick which one you want the data for.
Both will be able to send and receive calls and texts. Though you pick your primary/default sim for what calls and texts default to.
Thank you!, Now if I can just figure out rooting so I can get call recording going.
That's not dual active. That is dual standby. You won't find any phone with dual active sim in US.
Did you need to buy a dual Sim tray?
Thanks
Oneplus has 3 sim slots: dual nano sim tray and one esim.
Tried to dual esim and sim together but some reason on sim can do nothing but text can't use it for calls since I want esim for data
Well if u use esim and sim, sim can't be Verizon
