I have a problem that persists with multiple ROMS (tried the stock, and Malysk ROMS) - Android 9. Also tried different MCUs
Very often, after my unit boots up, the Radio app is not working, all station memory "boxes" are showing blank and I have to kill the Radio app and restart it.
It is very frustating and I have not found a solution yet, do you have any suggestions?
Disable the stock radio app in factory settings and install another radio app.
If yours is an MTCD/MTCE head unit then try Navradio+, much better.
Thanx, will try that.
I have also noticed, that every time I switch the unit on, a different instance of the Radio App is running. I think that the same happens with music app.

This is likely a problem of how the ROM apps or settings are configured: different apps for the same function might be pre-installed, you need to disable or uninstall those that you don't need.

So, I tried Navradio+, but does not seem to work if I the stock radio app process is killed. Also, I cannot find a way to disable stock radio app in factory settings, there is no such setting there.

I have tried different ROMs including the stock one of course, the one I currently use is (the well known here) Malysk ROM, this seems a critical bug, but there no similar reports from other users of this ROM.
Could this be an MCU issue? I have also tried different versions of my MCU (MTCE_CZ_V3.41, MTCE-CZ-3.06)

Settings -> AUTO -> Factory settings + password (ex. 126) -> APP -> Radio -> NO -> APPLY
Found it, thanx. So, Navradio+ seems a workaround for the issue, but still has some disadvantages.
For example, after restarting the unit, I have to run the Navradio+ again in order to have my radio play (although I see Navradio+ running on the background after reboot).
Also, the current radio station displayed in my Home screen, is not the one I am currently listening to. I guess Home screen is somehow binded the stock radio app.
I also wiped everything and flashed Hal9k_ ROM. Again, the same behaviour as you can see attached
Uninstall or disable all the radio apps in the ROM that you're not going to use.
The problem of no sound playing from the NavRadio+ app upon restart is difficult to sort out.
Interactions with the launcher (which?) and the ROM's app startup settings might occur too.
Anyway if you're using the free NavRadio+ version some problems could be already solved in the paid version, search in its specific thread.
I'm using the stock ROM with Agama launcher and paid NavRadio+ and everything works well, except for NavRadio+ not always automatically resuming playing after startup
I have stock android 10 rom on px5 rk-3368 (mtce-Mx-3.56) with agama launcher and disabled stock radio in extra settings and wanted to use navradio+ (free version so far). All is ok except one thing, we I say "ok google" then stock radio is muting for a while, but using navradio+ is not muting so can't be sure I can say command.
What can be reason for that behavior?
check navradio upodates, you can make it auto start and other things, now at v2.04
you have the free version and the paid one .. and you can save in a file the station lists ...
one thing i had while having done ota upgrades etc ... always do a factory reset, it may help replace some components etc ...

I jump between roms pretty often (new features and capabilities are often a siren-call for me) so I wind up reloading and reconfiguring apps pretty frequently. I had a few roms in the past that automatically reloaded all my apps after I installed the rom. I think they required me to sign into the Android Market, and thereafter the applications started popping up by themselves in the app list without my intervention at all.
This feature is absolute extract of awesomeness, but I don't know how it is referenced. What do you call that? Also, I haven't seen it in some time (since February or so) and I've used probably a dozen roms since then; is it no longer a working process?
Maybe because you're not clearing data? Idk, shot in the dark
Posted by some phone named the Epic.
It's a feature of Gingerbread that some have incorporated into their ROMS in the past.
Its because everyone disables their setup wizard... if that was enabled or even optional, it would download all your apps back for you... before you load the rom, go into the zip, go to the build prop and go to the bottom, then change setup wizard from "DISABLED" to "OPTIONAL".

I'll give this a try.
RESULT: My most recent rom has the setup wizard enabled, and it didn't reload the apps. If the initial "Touch the Android to begin" setup wizard is the one you're talking about, I've run through it on several roms and not gotten an automated app reload.
It will usually, but its not instant. It actually takes about an hour... and it will only reinstall apps that the online market recognizes your phone as having had installed

Hi
I'm frustrated - my Galaxy Nexus just keeps on crashing, randomly. At first, I thought it had to do with non stable Roms like AOKP (build 23 or 25) or Codename Android (1.4.0). So I downgraded to Stock Rom 4.0.2 on my GSM system.
But it still keeps on crashing. With this, I mean that it reboots all of a sudden and I find myself back at the SIM PIN input screen.
With Codename Android and AOKP, it was so, that it hung "deeply". Ie. when I connected it to my Linux PC, nothing at all showed up in the syslog of the Linux system - normally, it shows that "something" got connected. Not even that happened. "Solution": remove battery…
Well… I know that this is a bit slim, but how/where might I start to debug the cause of the crashes?
I don't have any special hardware connected. Most often, it crashes, while I'm typing somewhere (Browsers (different ones: chrome, browser, dolphin), Google Mail, Google Talk, Google+). But it also happens, that it crashes in the middle of the night, when I'm certainly not typing.
How to debug?
About this phone:
My installed apps: on Google Docs or or pastehtml.com — I also tried trimming the list of installed apps down, but either I didn't trim enough, or it was in vain…
Well… As you might guess… I'm totally clueless…
Thanks,
Alexander
If you have the android development tools installed on ur computer, you could try just leaving the phone plugged in while the Logcat view is opened. Logcat displays a whole bunch of debug info which may help you out when the phone suddenly reboots itself.
Also when you downgraded the firmware to stock, did you also clear the cache partition? Have you tried doing a factory reset from the UI? Did you also downgrade your radio to stock? Things to keep in mind.
- chris
Hm.logcat. Most of the time, i am not near a computer, when it cradhes. Is there a way to continually store the logcat output on the device itself?
When i downgraded, i did a cache wipe. I also did cache wipes / factory resets, when i had the custom roms installed.
I also flashed the stock radio, yes. So that is not the reason, i would say.
It is also not related to the keyboard - i thought so first. So i switched from SlideIt to SwiftKeyX. No change. And it also crashes while i am not typing.
Alexander
If I were you, I'd go to complete stock. Stock rom, kernel, and radios. No extra apps and see if it's a hardware issue or not. But that's just me.
Well, loveubuntu, i see what youre saying, i really do, but this basically would mean, that i couldnt use the phone. And what good is a phone, that cannot be used?
I am already back to stock rom, stock kernel and stock radio.
Well if you're back to 100% stock, relocked and not rooted it could be one of two things. Hardware issue or an app.
Well, thanks, but it doesnt help much...
And, actually, it just occured to me, that it is.already known, that it mist be an app. Ive got the same crashes with custom rom/kernel and stock rom/kernel. This shows, that the crash isnt.related to rom/kernel.
But how to debug this? I cannot keep the smartphone connected to the pc to have logcat ru.ning all the time. When i am travelling, i just dont have a pc around...
Any ideas?
well ffs not 24 hours a day. They mean just plug it in and run a logcat while you're using it and try to force a crash. If you can capture a log of what happened when it crashed then you will know what's crashing it.
If you go back to 100% stock (as in, flash Google images) and it still crashes with no apps installed, its a hardware problem.
Uninstall your task killer while you're at at it...
I cannot force a crash - as I said, it happens randomly
As far as crash with no apps installed… Well… I guess it won't crash, because then I won't be using it. That advice really cannot be followed.
It's been suggested to relock and remove root. What would that do? Could that really have anything to do with it? Very hard to imagine.
Oh, why uninstall the Task Killer? Yes, it's installed, but not active (in the sense, that it does not kill any tasks automatically and I also don't usually kill tasks. System also crashed, when I didn't kill any tasks).

re-locking and unrooting will help diagnose the problem as app related or hardware. You may have a lemon.
Also, if you know it's app related, then the solution is easy. Uninstall all the apps and start again. That's why I suggested a factory reset. You can factory reset being rooted and unlocked. You can backup with titanium backup first anything you may need or make a nandroid.
task killers cause these kinds of problems.
Had a very simler problem to this, on stock 4.0.2, tried rooting and installing custom rom to see if it fixed and didnt also lots of factory resets nothing helped! In the end i had to send it off to sammy, got it back same problem , off again they sent it back with the same problem , off AGAIN got it back on friday with ( oddly) a new screen and havent had a problem since.
My advice send it for repair, if its happening with different roms / stock or whatever its gotta be hardware
If you want a logcat that you dont need a pc for use " alogcat" free app from the market, helped me ( mine actually had hardware error on the logcat )
I updated to Jelly Bean 4.1.1 using Eftrant's method and did a complete wipe, re-installed and setup every application/game from the market but I've noticed that when I access places like Apps under Settings menu, using programs like Quick App Manager, the phone freezes or hangs. This problem was pretty bad in 4.1 but 4.1.1 seems to have improved it just a bit (not freezing/restarting as much). I thought that this was an application specific problem but doesn't look like it. Anybody having the same issue and have a solution/workaround?
Just to be clear, when I was running ICS the phone did not have a single instance of Freeze or Restart, I've been using this phone since January, so, it is not a problem with my phone either, just with the Jelly Bean update and the issue doesn't happen all the time only sometimes.
Have you tried doing a factory reset and running it without very many apps to see if it helps?
I have the same problem with Stock 4.1.1. Nothing helps (Full Wipe, No own Apps installed, Wipe cache, etc.). It randomly occurs in Settings/Apps. The Phone freezes and needs 1 Minute - Then "Settings isn't responding. Do you want to close it?"
To reproduce the problem: Slide in Settings/Apps from "DOWNLOADED" to "RUNNING" to "ALL" and back - a few times. Sometime the phone freezes.
Does it freeze at all with no apps installed? Can you pinpoint the freezes to a certain type of thing you're doing?

No, unfortunately not. With absolutely no apps installed the problem occurs less times but it is not gone. I think there is a bug.
---------- Post added at 09:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 09:28 AM ----------
Can anyone try to reproduce the issue? It seems to occur only after a full wipe and some apps installed.
Slide in Settings/Apps from "DOWNLOADED" to "RUNNING" to "ALL" and back - a few times. Sometime the phone freezes.
It also happens when you try to clear data/clear cache of a certain application like Browser, Gmail, Gallery, or any of the stock apps. A mentioned earlier the frequency of the phone freezing reduces if there are no applications installed. This definitely seems to be a bug that occurs when a lot of data about all the applications is being pulled at once. You can replicate the issue if you install an app like Quick App Manager which scans all apps when the app is started.

Thank you for the Info!
It was happening on my GN too. But now it's fine.
I used to flash 4.0.4 factory image and OTA to 4.1.1 many times(more than 6). It was fine without any app installed from google play. After about 60 apps, freeze in setting-apps. Jump in an app detail, back, in another, freeze.
Now it' OK. But unfortunately, I don't know which setting fixed it. I try a lot.
Do you use flipboard? Or any large number of fragment files in sdcard/android/ ? Try to clean. Set flipboard to use internal storage.
If freeze again, er.....the last method. wipe cache, factory reset, flash 4.0.4, install apps and then OTA 4.1.1. Instead of OTA 4.1.1 and then install apps.
hope you can understand my English, and this can help you.

Well I have the same problem. It generally happens to me after I delete apps via settings...apps.
enough to make me quit cell phones
Happens on my nexus constantly. Verizon has sent me two replacements, which I sent back because they did the same thing, with or without any apps installed. All have had 4.1.1. This problem does not occur on 4.0.4, which I have flashed to the devices after upgrading to 4.1.1 just to run some tests. There is clearly a bug in the vzw 4.1.1 update. It is very, very frustrating and happens regardless of the apps we try to force close, clear cache, etc. They do not have to be google apps as someone has posted. I can easily duplicate the issue and it has been witnessed by two different corporate locations across four reps. I hope we can get a flashable 4.1.2 update soon, I've tried a 4.1.2 rom briefly and have not had the phone freeze at all.
Happens to me. I re flashed the rom and all went wrll

only ever dealt with android products such as my tab pro, note 3/4. but just purchased and received my pumpkin kd-c0250 headunit.
had a quick look and seen someone recommend new/custom firmware.
Stock music player seems a bit **** too but integrates with the home screen which i tried with shuttle music player and that doesnt, unless its possible to add it as a wiget?
also im guessing a universal root for 4.4.4 should work to get me root access too?
just looking to see what others can recommend as a good starting point for making the headunit "better" all round. sorry if this gets posted once a day or anything

If you are new to Android, the first thing I would suggest is looking at replacing the Launcher. This will give you a lot more freedom
to add widgets for things like Shuttle and other apps you may want to try. I would also leave the ROM stock for as long as you can stand to do so. Take notes as you work with the stock ROM of the changes you would like to make, and search through the threads here to find if
you can make them without flashing to a custom ROM.
Rooting this unit is quite simple by using the temporary root method. Enter *#hct#root# as the password when opening System Settings.
DO NOT REBOOT. First go to the Play Store and Install the SUPERSU app by CHAINFIRE Once you have done that, let the system reboot,
and then go back to System Settings and enter the password adboff This will turn off the temporary factory SuperUser app, but you will still be able to use the CHAINFIRE SUPERSU app you installed to control root access of your apps.
I will say that if you want to jump in off the deep end, Malaysk has put together some awesome stuff.
I started with a DSA Rooted Stock Rom and installed APEX Launcher, mostly because it let me get started with a built in root,
and it also gave me 2 or 3 GBs to install other apps where the Stock ROM from the Factory only had a 1 GB partition.
Have Fun, and
Good Luck,
Rick
Sidenote:
the code *#hct#root# did not work with my KD-C0250, if it does for Harmonial i'de like to know
Installed one of the stock rooted Roms and entered the code and it worked. Dunno if it would have worked on the original rom.
There's as music app in the system/app folder. (Or is it /apk) at work and can't check.
That hash better layout for the library I like, but for the life of me I can't get it to open other than when it boots on startup with auto player from the likes of the headunit app.. Anyone got any idea on that front? Tried installing the apk and it does it successfully but no icon to open it, or even the option to open once done like with usual apks, just a "done" button

Oh ok, still on the original rom here, thanks for the info!
Still cant get my head around this music app thing.
the one that has an icon and is the only one i can open is the default "mtcmusic3" app.
the one that will start on boot with the headunit app is just called "music" and is in the system/app folder.
Info on the app when i check it out is "version 4.4.4-eng.meng.20150806.-211037". would really like to just run that as standard. but if i exit out of it at any point i can only seem to reopen it via booting the head unit again, no shortcut on the launcher to open it.

I've been using this with Ting. Seems more stable than the CM-11 build that I was using. Mms & cell data are the two things that do not work out of the gate for me. Wondering how this shapes up with Sprint. I vaguely remember cell data working, but I don't think the default mms app did. However, I was able to use a third party mms app for pictures.
If this works well for people I'll see what I can do about getting my changes pulled upstream.

What gapps version to use?
Thanks for providing this! I've installed it, to replace my cm-12-20151108-NIGHTLY-ls970.zip ROM. But I haven't been able to find a gapps download that will work with this (all Google services keep crashing) or fail to installed (Status 6). Any help will be appreciated.
Thanks!
gapps version
I was able to get this working. After battling through a barrage of pop-up messages telling me that various google apps had crashed (repeatedly for each one), I got into Play Store and did an update all. I had to uninstall/reinstall Keep and Messenger, and now all seems well.
The only thing I'm currently having a problem with is Titanium Backup, which keeps crashing no matter what I've tried.
Otherwise, all seems to be working well. I'm hoping that a the flaky problems I was having with the previous CM-12 ROM will be fixed with this version.
For whatever reason, no matter what version of CM12 I install, wifi does not work. I'll put in the password and then it times out "failing to authenticate." Have you run into this issue? Any known fixes?

My wifi is working. With the previous CM12 install I did have a problem where wifi would stop working after it was connected ("!" next to the wifi indicator), and I'd have to turn the wifi off and on again to fix it. I haven't experienced that problem yet with this build, though it's too soon to know if that problem has gone away.

Yeah I just went through unrooting and going to stock (where it worked fine) and now tried again to install without luck. I don't understand this problem or what could possibly be the issue at this point.
Edit: I have noticed that I'm not seeing my 5 GHz network although it was available in stock.
Profile switcher
It seems the option to switch profiles from the power button is gone. In the settings for buttons, there's an option to show "Airplane Mode", but not the profile selector. I do have multiple profiles created, so it's not because of that.

Hey geodosch, same experience here with pop up errors with one difference, I was not able to get into Play Store... I only have four com.google.* green droid icons, and after clicking them I get 'App isn't installed'. Which gapps did you install, any other tips?
Many thanks!
I tried quite a few, but the one I eventually used was downloaded from opengapps.org. Select ARM; 5.1; Micro. You may want to use a different variant based on your needs. The details of what's in each is here.
The filename for the one I used is 'open_gapps-arm-5.1-micro-20160304.zip'
I don't recall anything else special I needed to do. I hope this helps!
A couple of issues
I've found was appears to be a bug in the call log. Whenever I make an outgoing call, the call log shows an incoming call at the same time, with the ID of "unknown".
The other is an intermittent problem, which I haven't been able to determine how to reproduce. Sometimes the screen will go black, with the exception of the top status bar. I've had it happen when unlocking the phone, and also when opening a new app. Once this occurs, I've only been able to recover by rebooting. Holding the power button does bring-up the reboot screen, and as mentioned the status bar is fine, so it doesn't appear to be related to the display driver. I also took a screenshot when it was in this state, and the image is what the screen looks like: black with a status bar.
Sorry for the seemingly silly question, but where is the download? Following the link leads me to a wiki which leads me to a nightly build from mid 2015.

Did you click the "Downloads" tab near the top of this topic? (Between "Discussion" and "Reviews") There should be a link there to "cm-12.1-20160127-UNOFFICIAL-ls970.zip", dated 2016-01-28.
Thanks for the tip on where to find the download. This is actually a really clever thing to do; integrating the download into the forum navigation itself.

I'm having a lot of trouble getting Google Apps installed. I get the messages about the failures, but no Google Play store appears. I've tried on the latest "nano" release -- I'll try the exact file you mentioned.
One difference may be that I'm on TWRP 2.8.3.0 -- what's your recovery? Mine cries foul about no SELinux context support in the kernel, and I also noticed the Gapps blob said something about fixing SELinux permissions (it doesn't report success or failure). After installation there are 4 or 5 "google logo" icons that don't do anything, labeled com.android.google.whatever that don't open, instead claiming "XXX isn't installed" where XXX is the name of the app. Another poster here said the same. Anyway, I'll try that particular file and cross my fingers!
Edit: nope. Transferred the Gapps zip to the storage, booted into recovery, wiped everything except internal storage, flashed the ROM, flashed the GApps, reboot. Still get a bunch of green lifeless icons that won't load any app. What to do?
Ah, looks like I was right. It's the silly SELinux thing. The trick is to go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2524485 and set the phone to permissive. Which you can totally do because you can go into the build info and click build number until you get "developer mode" enabled and enable root access in apps. Then everything works perfectly, even from a seemingly glitched install, regardless of GApps version. Pretty nice eh?
I'm gonna let everything update and then try reenabling SELinux, for kicks.
[edit]Ah, rebooting screws everything up again until the SELinux changer finally loads and changes things to permissive. So it doesn't exactly stick at boot. Still looking for a permanent fix...

What to do?

I'm running ClockworkMod 6.0.4.7. It's been a while since I originally installed the CM ROM, but I know I didn't have any luck with TWRP, though I can't say for certain that it was at fault... it may have been due to some other issue which I later fixed, and switching to CWM may have been incidental.
I've found that using the official CM recovery fixed my gapps woes.
On another note, GPS isn't working for me.
So, I totally didn't see any notifications that this thread was active. I've been working on trying to get Marshmallow up and ran into a dead end. So, I came here.

I've found was appears to be a bug in the call log. Whenever I make an outgoing call, the call log shows an incoming call at the same time, with the ID of "unknown".

Same here, although it doesn't do it for all callers, I'll rebase on the newest code and see that does the trick.

I experienced the same. Although, I haven't in some time, since I stopped trying to use multiple profiles, that must contribute. adb still works as well, and I tracked the error in the code and it was right next to a TODO item. Go figure. If you see it again and are next to a computer, see if you can't get a logcat so I can check on that code again.

It seems the option to switch profiles from the power button is gone. In the settings for buttons, there's an option to show "Airplane Mode", but not the profile selector. I do have multiple profiles created, so it's not because of that.

It's there, under "Power menu". Just search for power.

I read somewhere that you may need to get a lock in a ZVC build before flashing. Try that. It sounded like hog wash to me, and didn't work when I tried it. But, after updating the libs, all was fine. So, maybe both conditions must be met. On a positive note, I rarely have GPS enabled, but when I flip the switch, it comes on. So, it's not like you need to leave it on across reboots.

Glad to see you taking I look here. I really don't want to replace my Optimus G, since all phones now seem to be either low-end performance or over-sized. So I'm glad I can still keep mine going with these builds.

I hadn't tried adb before rebooting (Murphy's Law: whenever it happened I was often doing some time-constrained task, so I just rebooted as quickly as I could.) But the next time it happens I'll connect and check the logs. It's interesting that you mention multiple profiles, because it seems to have happened several times in my car, and I have profiles set-up to switch when the car bluetooth connects/disconnects.
If you're going to be poking around in the code, another issue that I've been having is the default app for the browser no longer seems to work consistently. I know this worked on an older CM12 build, and think it used to work on this one. But when something launches a browser I'm very often prompted for which one (Chrome or Browser.)

In the power menu, I see an option to switch users (which is disabled, since I don't have multiple users set-up), but I don't see an option for Profiles.
