No microSD on Kindle Fire 7" (Gen 7) - Kindle Fire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I managed to get LineageOS 14.1 installed on my Kindle Fire 7" (Gen 7), however, I cannot for the life of me get it to acknowledge that there is a microSD card. Is this normal? There's a 64 GB SanDisk Ultra in it that I know still works and that worked when it was on FireOS earlier today.
I decided to put LineageOS on the Kindle because it was running super slow on FireOS and I love LineageOS on my Nexus 6, however, if I can't get the microSD card to work, I'm going to have to find something else. If it isn't possible, does anyone have a different OS I could try? This device is solely used for children games and watching videos, so basically anything that has Google Play and can see the microSD will work. Alternatively, if there is a way to use the microSD card as internal storage and not see the internal storage, that's also acceptable for this use case.
Thanks in advance! Hopefully someone can shine some light on this situation.
EDIT: Of course I would find the solution immediately after I ask:

[Q] SD CARD-'File Not Found' errors

Hi all,
Just a quick question. I have the tab s 10.5 t800 non rooted (at this stage). I am having trouble with the sd card. The problem is that when I transfer some files to my tablet from my PC when I go to access them sometimes it comes up with 'file not found'. This seems to happen a lot when I transfer comics across from my computer to the tablet. Initially they are there and I can access them but then when I got to access them later its telling me the file isn't found.
Is this because I'm not rooted? I have read that kitkat doesn't like writing to external sd card but this is from computer to tablet so I thought would be okay.
Any advice greatly appreciated
Cheers

The Tab S seems to be incredibly picky as to which SD cards play nice and which do not, even across the same brand/model of card.
Try a different card.
I've detailed my own SD issues in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-s/help/galaxy-tab-s-deleted-sd-card-files-t2971447
thanks mate Ill check it out. Appreciate your reply
I typically swap cards from an old device to a newer one... phone, tablet, etc. This time, I took the Sandisk 64gb card from my Acer A700 and installed it into my 10.5" Tab S and... it read as a blank card. Back into the A700 and it read fine. Checked on my PC and no errors. I finally resolved all issues by transferring all my data to my PC, installing the card into the Tab S, letting the tablet format the card, and then transferring all the files back over USB. Everything's working great now, but geez... seriously?

[Q] Fire TV keeps wanting to format my USB drives

I got the latest update yesterday and was looking forward to trying the the new usb functionality. I had a couple of pre-formatted Sandisk Cruzer Blade 4GB sticks. They were already formatted as FAT32 so I inserted one of them. The Fire TV picked it up right away and spit back a message telling me that to use the drive, I'd have to format it as FAT32. I figured maybe windows did something odd with the formatting that the Fire TV didn't like, so I let the Fire TV format the drive itself.
It formatted, saw all 4 gigs, and everything looked fine. I moved some apps to it and everything looked like it was working as it should. I wanted to test putting some media on the drive to see if vimu or kodi could play files from the USB, so I ejected the drive (yes, I did it the right way by going into the options and waiting until I was told it was ok to remove it). I removed the stick, put it into my PC and moved some episodes of Bob's Burgers to it.
I then plugged it back into the Fire TV and again was told that I needed to format the drive because it wasn't FAT32. Again I thought windows did something funny to the formatting, so I let the Fire TV format it again. Again everything looked fine afterwards. I redownloaded the apps I lost from formatting and moved them again to the drive.
To troubleshoot, again I ejected the drive, and after a few seconds, I plugged it back in. Once again, it told me I needed to format the drive to FAT32. At this point I was getting annoyed, and thought maybe one of the apps I moved to the card was the culprit. So I formatted again, and again everything looked fine. This time I did NOT move anything to the drive, and I again ejected it. After ejecting it, I plugged it back in and once again, it wanted to format the drive to FAT32.
Thinking I might have a bad flash drive, I pulled a second sandisk cruzer fresh out of its package, never having been inserted into a windows pc or any pc, and I plugged it into the Fire TV, Again it wanted to format it to FAT32. So I let it format, all looked well. I ejected it, plugged it back in, and again it wanted to format.
Is this how it's supposed to work? Are we supposed to have to format a drive every time it's inserted?

No, that's not how it's supposed to work. My guess is there's something odd about that brand of drive. See if the drive has a hidden partition or try an entirely different brand of drive.
Well thats better then a PNY 32gb I have I put it in say to format it , I hit yes , it asks to format , I hit yes .. and on and on it goes. It never actually attemps to format it. I have no problems using a external hard drive or any other flash drive but just this one 32gb flash drive it constantly asks to format till I hit no. I ended up using a 16gb microsd card with a usb adapter, works fine... would rather use the 32gb but whatever..
So it obviously has some quirks depending on brand .. try a differnt brand.

I use a 32G SanDisk Ultra fit formatted in FAT32 with Partition Magic and FTV never complained.
I tired an 8gb kingston stick I had, and it seems to be working. I really hope they work on the compatibility issues.

(AFTV2) MicroSD as internal storage?

Is this possible? I have searched and all I could find was a guide to use a USB device as internal storage on the AFTV 1st gen.
I would like to use my AFTV2 for games (San Andreas, Emulators etc) but as everyone knows, once the data files are there for example, with GTA, most of the space is gone.

I currently don't have a fire tv 2 to test but this weekend I was having issue writing to external sd on rooted amazon fire tablet running fire nexus rom (lollipop). It requires xposed and you might need play services (not sure).
I used xinternal sd xposed mod then installed sdfix by nextapp from playstore. Not only could I write to sd but now I can put apps+data on external.
***But this is Fire OS you're using so the results might differ. Definetly worth a try unless someone has a better/easier method.
***Also I can't be certain it wasn't one or the other (sdfix or xinternal). Might just be one of them that solved my issue but since there were no ill effects I'll leave it as is...

You can use your USB (HD) for media only as for apps they can only be transferred to the SD card, this info if for firetv2 only.
If I remember correctly, FolderMount is what your after.
I think you can do it with an xposed module (obbonsd?) as well but I don't know how well it works on the AFTV2 though.
I only played about a little with FolderMount on my HUDL and it worked fine. I linked the obb folder to my external micro SD for game files and it worked fine.

Encrypting Internal Storage of Shield Android TV

Does anyone know if it is possible to encrypt the internal storage of the Shield Android TV? I tried it with vdc on a rooted ROM but no luck. Has anyone tried this with more success? Ideally I would have to enter a pin on boot to "unlock" the internal storage, just like on a phone or a tablet.
Hey, looking for the same thing. Did you ever got any solution to this?
Browsing for it myself too, would be happy if someone could save me time on it.

I have tried that option 1 errors out with
Error: java.lang.IllegalStateException: java.util.concurrent.TimeoutException: Thread Binder:614_15 gave up waiting for partitionMixed after 180000ms
Option 2 worked but when doing pm move- command it never works
I managed to get further but keep getting error -6 when trying to move to usb device
Edit. I got it working as far as storage and moving apps over on a 32gb usb drive from 2010. It does not auto put to usb drive though

What model are you using 4k mantis? Is it to run kodi on externak drive/USB?
Try using advanced download manager and using that to access automatically

Not sure but all my firesticks have a bug it seems amazon refuses to fix that when fresh formatted and leaving it on the storage goes to very low space quickly. So far with the same apps installed I got bit more on 1 stick that been unplugged longer. Both are 4k firesticks. Not sure what version. I think gen 1 since i dont think gen 2 4k firestick ever came out.
One of my usb drives might just not work for firestick as playing downloaded videos from it lag.
I have 2 firesticks with USB adapters. Recently both firesticks refused to recognize any USB flash drive (I'm using VLC media player). The same flash drive I have been using for a long time. I tried reformatting the drive (FAT32) but no luck. I suspect that a software update has caused the problem. Is there a known way to roll back the software and prevent updates?

I am having the same issue. USB storage was working fine but after update system is not recognising the storage. I can see the usb stick and copy files using adb so it is not a hardware issue.
Hi everyone. I have 2 firesticks (lite and 3rd gen). I tried to expand storage on both with remote ADB shell. I used the same method and succeeded on one of them (lite). Remote ADB shell in the 3rd gen stick refused to recognize usb flash drive. Does anybody know why, please?
I have the same problem firestick 4k 3rd gen fully updated, tried two otg cables, many different drives and will not recognise it through xplorer, adb console or system settings. Any help would be much appreciated
Thanks for the reply but I have tried all of the above suggestions and nothing works.
I have read every thread online and carried out every instruction and now I am at a dead end, very frustrating.
The stick is on fireOs 6.2.9.4
Thank you for taking the time to reply carolljeny223 much appreciated, I've contacted customer support and waiting reply.
I think you have to cut the power to the firestick , say for about 30 seconds.
I found this out with my firestick running on sofware 7.
When I put the USB memory stick in the port the firestick recognised it. A message prompt came up with an option to format the usb stick either for (a) Apps, or (b) Storage e.g., movies, documents, etc.
Only when the firestick recognises the memory stick will it then show USB storage in the My Firestick settings.
Ensure your USB memory is formated to fat32 on your computer if your memery stick is 32gb or below. Anything about format it to exfat32.
