I got the May update notification and it seems the best I can do is delay it a day so I don't have much time. How do I stop this from happening? I am using the G988U model.

It already downloaded the update so that isn't going to help. That's why I am asking how to clear it.
Because I don't like updates and almost never update my OS's/software. I prefer to stick with the version I know. On my previous phone the HTC U11 Life, I would get a notification that updates are available and always had the option to cancel. This is bull****!

Try to restart in recovery mode and wype cache data
First turn off automatic updates. Second....why? So just because you don't like updates you are forgoing potential battery/camera/performance improvements and security patches? I mean it's your phone and your choice it just sounds strange. To answer your question: Try to downgrade. I haven't been with a Samsung phone for ages and don't really know if it's doable atm, haven't tried it on my s20+ but ask around. BE CAREFUL not to mess something up!

I highly recommend you to do the update on the S20 at least to ATD6

Seriously, in today's software 'quality' world, not updating is a big issue, especially but not only regarding to security.
If you have a system exposed to the world (and you do have that with your S20 Ultra), you must really keep it updated.
Also, ATE6 is an especially important one, as it is having several improvements.

So, last week my phone received a system update, which I didn't apply (running leedroid rom) and now I can't get rid of the 'a system update is available' notification. Is there anyway to clear this off without applying the update?
yes there is. go to settings->about phone->system software updates-> uncheck the scheduled check, confirm and you are ready to go.

That's the first thing I tried, it doesn't get rid of the existing notification.
just do that and reboot then. i have never had a notification after unchecking that.

I was pretty sure I'd already done that, but just tried it again (checked that the scheduled check is disabled and rebooted) and the notification comes back when the phone restarts.

Fantastic! Thanks, that cleared it instantly. Much appreciated.
Hey everyone. I am relatively new to the Android world, especially in terms of rooting and installing custom firmware. I've been running off of nightly builds of CM10.1 for about a month now, and my Google contacts were not syncing the entire time, even though everything else was working fine. On another forum, a user had suggested deleting the "com.android.providers.settings" folder within the data/data directory and then rebooting the phone. This not only didn't fix the problem, but my device is now barely usable. The home button, notifications, lockscreen, quick settings panel, and who knows what else no longer works. Cyanogenmod wouldn't even find an update when searching manually, and I was unable to mount the device to my PC. I was able to re-download a nightly build and upload it to my cloud service and install it from there, but the device is still crippled.
Please feel free to criticize me for being an idiot and not being more cautious before deleting a system folder, but after, any advice as to how repair my device would be greatly appreciated. Outside of what I have done, I am absolutely clueless. Thank you to anyone who takes the time to help me before I do something else to mess it up even further.
i'm assuming you did a full wipe or at least wiped data and both caches when you flashed the update?

if you dont have a backup to restore, you're going to have to boot into recovery and wipe data, cache & dalvik and flash a rom/gapps.
you can play around with trying to fix this all you want but you'll likely end up doing this reset/reflash in the end.

What ads exactly? Have you tried uninstalling all the unneeded bloatware the phone comes with?

I cannot confirm whether your device is infected by that mentioned kind of malware.. Can I know which country you belong to?
And if your device is infected, presently there is nothing we can do. Lookout clearly said that for a normal user it's better to replace the device with a new one. And for an advanced user who know well about root/system files, can try removing those malware from root level...
Everyone is at risk, dont worry.. Someone will come up with a solution..

Hello
There must be a way to clear the phone completely. A full wipe somehow and start fresh?
If I knew what the files were I'd delete them from root folders. No problems there.
Thanks

These malwares will not be removed even on full wipe/factory reset or anything. And as I told presently there is no way to remove it. But dont be sure that your device is infected by that one, may be it's something else.., so first you've to check other things, find out if its because of any application installed in your phone!
Remove those suspicious apps, and then check it out..
I removed many apps. But no success.
Any idea on how the malware reinstall itself after a clean wipe?
Sent from my SM-N9000Q using XDA Free mobile app
the malware doesnt reinstall itself.. it simply hides in the system partition which isn't affected my clean wipes.
the only way to remove it is to wipe and restore the system partition.
You could try
http://forum.xda-developers.com/zenfone2/general/asus-zenfone-2-flashing-recovery-mode-t3096596
under 3.1) Rooting Zenfone 2
use method 1
that will flash a clean image to your system partition, albeit with root and its caveats like "DO NOT TAKE OTAs, flash manually"
google is the real criminal...
hi guys..first of all install addons detector from playstore..use it ..it will show you all apps with adv.addons…delete those apps….second go to apps..google..yes..google…that is the main culprit..delete all your stored history…caches..cookies etc…third always browse the web in incongnito mode/do not track mode.whenever there is a pop up on your mobile..see the ad closely ..u will see :i:..press it..it will take you to its source..(google)..follow instructions…and you will be fine !! and last but not least…bless me..!!

what does it mean.. i think wiping out entire partition will sort the issue. re partition you device. or wipe and reflash every partition with fastboot commands
The problem is Gearbest. They do this on almost every freaking phone they sell, and in the case of ZF2, they even make it in a way that you are unable to even update the ROM (it gives error everytime). They do this more notoriously on Xiaomi devices, they just come loaded with adware with no chance of getting rid of it, at least for regular smartphone users.
Anyway, i bought mine last month and the way i did it was this:
Convert the SKU from CN to WW (search here the thread on how to do it)
Flash phone with Asus Flash Tool, i used the oldest available LL build, from 05/2015
Reboot to recovery, connect to PC and update to latest LL build via ADB
Reboot to recovery again and update to the first MM build via ADB
Boot the phone normally, put latest MM firmware zip file on internal storage or sdcard and update via update notification.
There you go, a ZE551ML updated to latest official MM firmware, with WW SKU.

I noticed my phone is using 800-1400mb of cellular background data a day, even when I have data saver on. Closer inspection reveals its all from one Android OS service:
Code:
com.qti.service.colorservice
Anyone else see this before? Know what it is? how to remove it?
I tried wiping my phone, but it came back a few days later.
Stock 7.1.0 Rooted with TWRP, on Project Fi
Found this by Google search:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/help/com-qti-service-colorservice-chews-data-t3501493/page3
Conclusion that I draw is turn off auto update feature and consider side loading an update to resolve it.

Rooting the November update is easier than rooting it originally and use Titanium Backup for your apps and data.
Bump
I'm on the Dec update and have had automatic updates disabled since I rooted and it auto-installed the Dec update but failed on the Jan update a couple of days after owning the phone (1/6). In the last 6 days, this issue has run up 1.23 GB of mobile data. I've turned on data saver and did not allow the "settings" app to use unrestricted data. We'll see how that goes...
...good thing I had mobile data alerts setup or else it would still be running!

Data saver didn't work. I went back and disabled everything from using mobile data and it chewed up another 20mb anyway. Turning off celular data completely before I blow the family's data for the month.

I got it with March patch. Jeter g6 play. But I imagine the rest will get it too. It's in Moto actions.
Is it possible to update while being rooted in a way it wouldn't require me to format my system? The OTA notifications have stopped now that i froze the Motorola Update Services but now they're glitched (as in they don't open anymore and keep force closing whenever i try to open it(Yes i unfrozen the services)) and i can't even see what update it was. Pretty sure it was march?

To update while rooted, you have to flash the full firmware package. Don't allow it to boot to system. While still in bootloader mode, re flash TWRP. Then boot to TWRP and proceed to root.

I would suggest that you factory reset your phone manually after the update. There is some kind of bug that retains system files and cache from the previous firmware version, Increasing the size it takes up on your internal storage and drastically reducing the speed and not to mention the countless other bugs that come with pie on the g6. Factory reset after the update works wonders

nav bar pie by sesture
mmm i'm from chile and i don't speak english, but i will tray to make this...
I only can think in one solution, and root it's required with Magisk
https://forum.xda-developers.com/g6-play/how-to/guide-t3929928
... after root, and using Magisk, proceed to flash "Pixelify" mod in downloads option, after reboot, change in Settings->System->Gestures->Swipe up on Home button, for new pie navbar
pd: if you don't like this mod after test, be carefull if you wanna uninstall pixelify, cause if you make this directly on Magisk options, your cell will bootloop, you must reinstall mod, this detect previous install and will proceed to uninstall automatically
Use Moto App for new gestures using fingerprint sensor. Not able to close recent apps.
As I was looking at the "Rest of Europe" Moto Support Site, I notice this: https://support.motorola.com/in/en/solution/MS141660
I guess they are doing a second roll out for some?
