Strange service using tons of cellular data - Google Pixel XL Questions & Answers

I noticed my phone is using 800-1400mb of cellular background data a day, even when I have data saver on. Closer inspection reveals its all from one Android OS service:
Code:
com.qti.service.colorservice
Anyone else see this before? Know what it is? how to remove it?
I tried wiping my phone, but it came back a few days later.
Stock 7.1.0 Rooted with TWRP, on Project Fi

Found this by Google search:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/pixel/help/com-qti-service-colorservice-chews-data-t3501493/page3
Conclusion that I draw is turn off auto update feature and consider side loading an update to resolve it.

I did that in Developer Option. Still no fix.

From what I've found searching around is you need to install the Nov. update.

Thanks. I was hoping to avoid that as I'm rooted and don't feel like sideloading the update, re-rooting, and reapplying all my data.

Rooting the November update is easier than rooting it originally and use Titanium Backup for your apps and data.

Bump
I'm on the Dec update and have had automatic updates disabled since I rooted and it auto-installed the Dec update but failed on the Jan update a couple of days after owning the phone (1/6). In the last 6 days, this issue has run up 1.23 GB of mobile data. I've turned on data saver and did not allow the "settings" app to use unrestricted data. We'll see how that goes...
...good thing I had mobile data alerts setup or else it would still be running!

Data saver didn't work. I went back and disabled everything from using mobile data and it chewed up another 20mb anyway. Turning off celular data completely before I blow the family's data for the month.

[Q] System update is available

So, last week my phone received a system update, which I didn't apply (running leedroid rom) and now I can't get rid of the 'a system update is available' notification. Is there anyway to clear this off without applying the update?
yes there is. go to settings->about phone->system software updates-> uncheck the scheduled check, confirm and you are ready to go.

That's the first thing I tried, it doesn't get rid of the existing notification.
just do that and reboot then. i have never had a notification after unchecking that.

I was pretty sure I'd already done that, but just tried it again (checked that the scheduled check is disabled and rebooted) and the notification comes back when the phone restarts.
did you downloaded but not applied? the onle thing left.

Calculator doesn't work on 6.0.1?

It's the original calculator and it crashed immediately when I open it
Is there anyone else who meet the problem. How to solve it?

I also got this issue, anyone has a clue? at my nexus 6 btw
I got the 6.0.1 OTA just now and I'll check once it's installed. Maybe try wiping data and/or cache for it?
UPDATE: Just checked and not an issue for me. Running stock and not rooted... yet.

Just an idea but go to your Developer options then scroll to the very bottom and select Inactive apps. Touch to toggle it for calculator and try again.

Thankyou for the brain storming you guys, still it didnt had any effect.
6p, and I have the same issue.. Strange.
Did you guys flash the update using factory image files or did you flash the actual OTA file? Because I find that flashing files from the factory images to update can cause issues sometimes. The OTA files sometimes have upgrade scripts that may change some things that need to be changed on the /data partition and you wouldn't get those changes if you just flashed the new /system partition.
Last night I was having this issue (as mentioned above). Today, the calculator app opens up just fine. Even more strange...

Problems after Marshmallow update, apps have internet but cannot load web pages

Ever since i flashed the Marshmallow update i have trouble loading webpages in all browsers.
This happens in Wi-fi as well as on mobile data, but it only concerns the browsers. All the apps requiring internet work just fine, which is why i suspected a DNS problem, but the "Set DNS" apps don't work and i don't know what to do.

No idea what that means. OTA? RUU? Flashed a ROM (if so, which one?)?
If the latter, did you do a factory reset before flashing?
Same problem

I've noticed this too when converting back and forth between GPE.. doesn't matter if I RUU to a current Sense build or take and OTA from 5.0.. I've even had it happen after formatting data and side loading a zip (lost my memory card for a few days lol).. it's weird, only happens every now and then after fresh installs but Chrome acts funny. Pages won't load due to loop, redirects, security flags, etc.. If I backup, I don't even have to wipe or restore that backup, it seems to fix the issue after reboot.. I can't explain why. You guys using Comcast or Xfinity by any chance?

[compatibility patch 20160722] [lg g3 d855] [6.0 stock mm]

Yesterday a new update appears in LG G3's Update Center. It has the name Compatibility Patch (20160722). It says that is a patch that it is important for apps compatibility or something like that. I downloaded the update and then I had to restart the device in order to install the update. Do you know anything about this update?
I have to reboot after patch installation over and over again
I use fulmics 5.3 and this patch came out. I installed it, no issue.

I use stock ROM. Patch installed but patch reboot notification still present after multiple reboots.
Same here. Shows up after every reboot.
I found a solution myself.
My device was encrypted. So I removed the encryption, rebooted the device started new and Taaa-Daaa!
Patch notification has gone.
Mine's encrypted, too. Sad, this seems to be the solution.

What is encryption? How do u turn it on n off ?

if you have Titanium Bkup installed then patch should have been auto freezed by TB. You can have look into it. Another thing go to app Updates see under IDLE APPS your Compatibility patch should show button "Enable", don't enable this button. This is for information to all.

In this case u had to freeze the comp patch app in titanium bk. no issues. See above my post.
not sure if that's related
how would Titanium bkup help against a bug in the UI system?
other user may want to disable any administrative access software (like Mcafee or AVG anti virus) they have installed before enabling this patch.

Installed onto D850/852. Now unable to sign onto home wi-fi. Rebooting server does not fix it. Would like to remove this p.os. compatibility patch. Ideas?
You can try my above post and for Comp patch notification you can disable by going into settings ... app... notification Tab ... disable all notification for this Comp patch, you won't get notification any more for this, that is what I did.
First freeze this patch in Titanium BkUp.

I request all my fellow members that please do not install this patch. We all dont know what exactly this patch do for the system and whether is it necessary to install on our device. You can turn off notification for this patch as above. On my device no issues so far.
I had the same on lg g3. I did not install. I do not know how to cancel the message. Does somebody know how to cancel it ?
Thanks

Thanks to JIT1108 and others for suggestions. Will root phone soon and try the Titanium backup. Looks useful for purging carrier bloatware too, which I didn't know about.
Yesterday I have installed those Compatibility patch on my D855 (fulmics 5.3).. And this was a mistake.
Yes, I can confirm that the phone charges much more faster with the patch installed..
But the battery is discharging also very fast now! Faster than before.
Anyone have an idea how to uninstall this thing, or bring back the previous version of the apk file
which was in the system before this upgrade, without hard reseting or reflashing entire phone again?
Thnx in advance.
BTW.. TitaniumBackup can not uninstall this, shows only info: "the app can't be uninstalled, because there is no apk file".
And the second question..
Can this apk file be safely deleted manual from the system?
Or anyone can upload from own phone the original app: com.lge.systemupdater from the fulmics 5.3?

First of all you know that this is an official patch from LG so no harm to instal. But if any one have issues after installing it like you said battery discharging faster and so I really have no idea about it is really happening due to patch or so. If you want to remove this patch there is no way unless you do something and screwing up your phone. The most simple way what i did was freeze the application from T.B. and turn off the application's notification by going to the settings...apk..comppatch..notification...disable all notification and you are done. And ha don't do any stupid thing by touching anything to system files you will end up in boot loop so careful. My above method is simple and only way to come out. Those who want to keep the patch there is no harm they can keep as it is the patch.

Honestly?
This is no answer to my questions.
- Yes.. I know that is from LG.
- Yes it is a way to remove (always is a way)
- Freezing does NOTHING in my case - the patch was already installed, the app was autofreezed in the TB, there was no any nags, notificacions etc.
- Why should I not touch anything? heh.. mega-lol
- Your method does nothing but freezing the already installed app. Means: the patch is applied already - so.. a bit to late for freezing.
- "..there is no harm.." - heee?! What?! No harm? Then how to describe so fast battery discharging? Feature? Bonus? eeeeeeehhh.. Maaaannn..
Ok.. back to the clue..
Freezing is not a fix.. in my case. Is jus a workaround and not so very functional.
Update:
Problem solved - I do a dirty reflash of Fulmics 5.3 and this crappy patch is gone.
My phone (battery) works now ok.
BTW..
LG should inform the people what exactly this "compatibility update" do in the phone(s)!
They should give us an option to uninstall/remove them.
But.. they do an piece of crap.. as usual.

[Urgent] How do I cancel and clear un update?

I got the May update notification and it seems the best I can do is delay it a day so I don't have much time. How do I stop this from happening? I am using the G988U model.

It already downloaded the update so that isn't going to help. That's why I am asking how to clear it.
Because I don't like updates and almost never update my OS's/software. I prefer to stick with the version I know. On my previous phone the HTC U11 Life, I would get a notification that updates are available and always had the option to cancel. This is bull****!

Try to restart in recovery mode and wype cache data
First turn off automatic updates. Second....why? So just because you don't like updates you are forgoing potential battery/camera/performance improvements and security patches? I mean it's your phone and your choice it just sounds strange. To answer your question: Try to downgrade. I haven't been with a Samsung phone for ages and don't really know if it's doable atm, haven't tried it on my s20+ but ask around. BE CAREFUL not to mess something up!

Seriously, in today's software 'quality' world, not updating is a big issue, especially but not only regarding to security.
If you have a system exposed to the world (and you do have that with your S20 Ultra), you must really keep it updated.
Also, ATE6 is an especially important one, as it is having several improvements.
