* sorry, wrong model number in title, it's a 1789-05
Got a NIB, sealed Moto Z2 1789-05 (Telcel) and it won't update to 9.0. It keeps throwing a "Something when wrong" error after completing the download.
I've tried (from Canada, if that could possibly make any difference*):
- Factory reset
- Clearing the Moto Update Assistant cache
- Reboots
Note, it failed the update before I tried -any- SIM card in it. A Rogers SIM works, no "unlock" was prompted. It's possible that it'll only work on HSPA+ bands, but that's fine.
It would be nice to get it working since it's a 6GB RAM variant!
* I've gotten many Moto Z Verizon phones in the past and they all update fine with no SIM or anything else, so I doubt that's the issue. (Actually got a Verizon 1789-01 from the same seller and it updated fine, never had a SIM in it...)
Any ideas?
I have the Telcel version since I bought it with the same model and variant, all the updates arrived without any problem

I have read that AT&T has released Android M 6.0 for the AT&T G Pad F 8.0 V495 however when I try and update it says I have the latest version. The LG software tool also states the same thing.
I don't not have an active SIM card, but I have tried with a deactivated sim and also no sim with the same results. This update was released 4/26/16 it looks like.

I don't know if it's the same with AT&T, but with Verizon devices, they won't receive OTAs unless you have an activated Verizon SIM card in the device. It can take time for the PC software to show the latest update - could be weeks if at all.
I was trying the same thing today on mine and getting the same thing, I remove the Activated SIM from my iPad and installed on my LG G Pad F 8.0 (V495) then I move the date because it check for update every 24H. After all that it found a New Upgrade and download, but my problem is that I am ROOTED and the OTA upgrade wont work on rooted devices.
Ahah, thanks guys. I moved my iPad Mini 4 Sim over with an adapter and was able to update it after it had an active LTE connection.
I bought my friend a Honor 8 pro 3 months ago and he didnt get any updates since then (not even one).
I have read about the EMUI 8 that it started rolling out for some honor 8 pro devices and Im concerned that it wont get the update and I will have to update it manually or with the huawei firmware finder app (it still has july security patches).
Maybe it has a vendor rom or maybe this specific model didnt get small updates and will soon get the Oreo update.
Can someone please help/give an advice?
I had the same problem for several months. My phone is an EU phone and I use it with a Vodafone UK SIM. For months and months I did not get any update. Finally I removed my SIM card and checked for updates and at first try the phone got updated to B187.
I see that you have the C432 variant, same as me, so perhaps you can try and do the same. Remove your SIM card and try.
PS: Obviously you will need a wi-fi connection
Same variant here, I'm on B185 (September security patch)

Aighty, so, i recently reflashed the stock rom for my Moto g6 play and i noticed that i wasn't receiving any signal at all and my phone said that the sim card is invalid, i tried flashing the rom with the different Boost/Sprint variants and i am still not receiving any mobile data whatsoever.
is there a working method where i can restore my mobile data? my Moto G6 play model is the JETER XT1922-7 Boost Mobile Variant.
Thank you

I had this same issue. I have the exact same model. Try re-flashing everything again and makes sure you haven't put any additional spaces in the commands from my guide. The other option is you will have to get a new sim card and make sure you let the boost and or Sprint rep do everything for it. I had to get a new sim card after sending my phone into Moto I kept the old sim but when I got the new phone the old sim didn't work. I have a friend that works at boost so they just gave me a new sim card for free but it's like 10 bucks for a 3 pack of em.
Good day everyone!
I recently got a new phone (Galaxy S21), and I saw that you can bring your own phone to Tracfone, so I gave my Verizon S9 (SM-G960U) to my wife (to upgrade her old Samsung Tracfone phone).
We bought and installed the Tracfone SIM card and everything seemed to be working (she could make and take phone calls).
Little did I realize that Tracfone actually also uses WiFi for phone calls, and thus making and taking calls was not using Tracfone's network while connected to WiFi.
When we started researching why her phone did not work outside the home, we found that the CSC is still set to VZW.
This S9 has the latest April 2021 security update from Verizon (Android 10).
I downloaded an older stock Tracfone ROM, but Odin fails with an Auth error (presumably because the phone is not unlocked nor rooted, and the bootloader is locked).
I also tried just flashing the CSC with a Tracfone CSC, but it also failed with an Auth error.
All of the research I have done to this point indicates that Samsung makes flashing Android 10 Galaxy phones very difficult, and I suspect that I am screwed.
Should I put the Verizon SIM card back in and beg Verizon support for an unlock code? Will that even help?
Why doesn't the Tracfone SIM card override the VZW CSC? I thought the SIM card would take precedence.
Thank you in advance, and I hope I am not repeating another thread (I searched, but I couldn't find anything related to changing CSC or rooting a Samsung Galaxy phone running Android 10).
P.S. I have no objections to performing a factory reset of the phone if it will help.
P.P.S. I would like to run the stock Tracfone S9 image so my wife can get the OTA updates, but I'm willing to do whatever to get it working (I would even be happy with running the existing VZW firmware as long as it works).
I have the 6 pro unlocked bought from Google. I use it on Verizon. I found out that when I got the phone and put the Sim in that the November update was not downloaded and installed. I factory reset the device and did not insert the SIM and I got the update. I now have SD1A.210817.036 installed. I this the correct version? I understand there is a November update 037 now but I don't see that. Now I am concerned that when the December update comes out that I wont get that either. Does anyone here know if Google and Verizon have fixed this issue?
Thanks
We don't know because it's just too early to tell. Word is they stopped pushing the .037 OTA at all, although I don't know that from personal experience. I've got the unlocked P6P running on AT&T and I got all the OTAs almost immediately. The next OTA should be out next Monday, but I believe Verizon variants have often lagged at least a little when though the OTA is available directly from Google for all variants at the same time.
Also commonly, after several updates the Verizon version of the firmware gets merged into a single universal firmware.
Regardless of any of this, you can flash either the Verizon version of the OTA manually, getting it directly from Google's site. You may even be able to flash the non-Verizon OTA manually, but there's no reason to avoid the Verizon version since you're using it with Verizon.
With the Pixel 5, unlocked but using Verizon as my service provider: there was a 50-50 shot on some sort of delay on updates. I think it has to do with their mmWave 5G and other providers (US and international) either do not use mmWave; or aren't as proprietary as Verizon.
Is there any benefit to running the Verizon version on an unlocked pixel 6 pro?

The best answer is "maybe", leaning towards "probably".
For example, and probably a bad example but the only one I got. When I got my unlocked HTC 10 before I got the Pixel 1 in 2016, and I was still with Verizon at the time, I had no idea that I was going to have to jump through hoops to get Verizon's radio.img on my HTC 10, which was rooted so no big deal. Now maybe there was a whole Verizon firmware I could flash, but if I just wanted to use the regular unlocked HTC 10 firmware, I had to put the Verizon radio.img on there to even work on the network.
On the Pixels, I don't think it's ever been quite like that. I think you can use the regular firmware just fine on Verizon, but maybe, just maybe, it will work better with their proprietary bits that come with the Verizon version of the firmware.
Also, I know sometimes in the past that if you had the unlocked firmware on a device but used a Verizon SIM (or in other cases with some phones, an AT&T SIM, and probably applied to T-Mobile too), that you would then receive an OTA automatically to put you on their particular variant of the most recent firmware. So unless you disabled updates in Developer Options, you'd get the "proper" firmware for your usage anyway, and of course, being rooted is the ultimate method to avoid the proprietary variant of the firmware since OTAs will most likely refuse to even update a rooted device, although you should still turn automatic updates off since there's a chance it could instead soft-brick your device.

I have an unlocked p6 (not pro) that I got from Amazon which I am using on Verizon. When I first set it up without a sim card it got the 36 update OTA without a problem. I put in the sim card and didn't receive the 37 update long after it was released. Finally I tried an inactive Mint sim (t-mobile network) and got the update when I checked for a system update using the settings menu. It probably would have worked without a sim also.
Rumors are that there will be a December update so I will be checking then. If I don't get it I will try without a sim or with an inactive sim. But that will mean that automatic updates don't work for unlocked p6s on verizon.
I did finally sideload the .037.A1 which is the Verizon version so I will see if I start getting the OTA updates.
Thanks all

For clarification, if you didn't know (forgive me if you did), the Pixel 6/Pro will receive an update every single month from the time it came out until five years later (so ~ October 2026). Especially some of the later years they might only be security updates - not Android version updates, but they will come like clockwork I believe the first Monday of every month.
Personally i wouldn't use the vzw firmware as there are hardware differences between the two especially radio
