Screen always on / Stay awake ? - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

Rooted S20 Ultra with Magisk - is there any module or addon that can keep the screen alive / always on?
I've tried a few apps in the app store and none work reliably, so looking for a way to keep the screen permanently on.
Does such an option exist for the S20 yet?
Thanks

There's the 'Stay Awake' toggle in developer options which will keep the screen awake when charging. Not sure about how to achieve this when unplugged apart from with an app. Which ones have you tried?

[Q] How To Prevent Display from Dimming when plugged into Power

When I'm in my car, I have my GN mounted on a vent, and plugged into power. I'll often use this to check traffic with Google Maps, or for whatever reason, would like to keep the display on (preferrably full power since it's not running off the battery), and not dim after the preset time. I have yet to find a way to do this.
I have gone into Developer Settings, and enabled the "Stay Awake" when plugged into power, but this does not prevent the screen from dimming after the preset time. So this doesn't accomplish what I want.
On my prior Touch Pro 2, there was a simple setting - keep display on, full brightness, when plugged into power. Seems like a no-brainer to have this feature, but I'll be darned if I can find it.
Any ideas? Or Apps that will provide this functionality?
Thanks.
(Verizon Galaxy Nexus, Stock 4.0.2 ROM)
I think screebl might help. Not 100% sure that it will though

Thanks. As you said, it doesn't seem Screebl will do what I'm wanting.
There are a few other Apps, such as "Stay Awake" where you can configure it to keep the display on whenever a specified app or apps are running. I guess this might be an option.
But seriously, this seems to be a major omission in Android. I understand why one might want the display to auto-dim (although I can just turn it off when I want, so even this is questionable). But if it's plugged into power, surely the user should have a readily available option to keep the display on. For example, a "Never" option in the screen that has the various timeout options.
I'm new to Android - is there really no straightforward way of doing this??
Bump..
Still hoping for a straightforward way to keep the display at full power when connected to my car charger.
Thanks.
Widgetsoid has as one of its display switches to keep the display always on, and it does work. So I made a 1x1 widget that has that one switch, and use it when I want the screen to stay on. Not elegant, but functional.
Thanks for the suggestion; I'll check it out.
I'm still somewhat surprised that this pretty basic functionality isn't built into the OS itself, or that there aren't ready-made Apps to implement this.

I dont think google had car mode ready for release. Couple that with the fact the car dock with pogo pins hasnt been released either. Yes google f'ed up but im sure we will see it in future update. Or a dev will probably be nice enough to do something.

Yes, I'm a first timer with Android, but I still do my research before posting. Did you actually read my initial post or the Subject title?
I have already enabled this setting. Yes, it does keep the screen 'awake' but it still dims after the timeout in Display Settings.
My post is how to keep the screen at normal brightness when plugged into power
I read your post. I agree, it is annoying. I have not found a solution to it and it has bugged me for years while in the car. I have had 4 android phones and it has been the same on all of them so it is not an individual phone thing, it is an android thing. My best suggestion is while in the car to have navigation turned on, that keeps the screen fully lit. I would think that some enterprising developer could delve into how the navigation mode keeps the phone at full power and come up with an app to do the same.

I've been looking at a few Apps (Screen On, Screen Timeout Widget, KeepScreen), but there are questions about each of them, uncertain compatibility with ICS, etc.
I did discover that when I had a Video playing (podcast through BeyondPod), the display did stay undimmed while I was plugged into Power. Navigation also works this way. Really crazy that this isn't an available option in the OS.
This worked on my old Droid, haven't tested on my Galaxy Nexus yet -- but hopefully the app is ICS compatible: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.probeez.liteprofiles&hl=en
Setting Profiles Lite is limited to one rule -- so make your one rule this: When charging, screen timeout=never (since this actually changes the screen timeout on the basic level, instead of the workaround that the Dev Settings option triggers).
(The full version of Setting Profiles will of course also do this, and I'm sure you can also do this with Tasker.)

Did you set:
Disable Ambient Display and any battery optimisation for the app.
Give notification access permission.
Guys who can't make it work, try turning on "Wake lock screen for notifications" option in lock screen settings.
After the last update it stopped working again. I've given it every permission, I've disabled ambient display, I've disabled battery optimization, I've locked it in the recent apps, I rebooted several times, nothing helped. I tried turning on and off auto brightness, wake for notifications, dt2w. I saw it working a few hours ago, but now again nothing. This is the last thing left to make this phone a normal phone.
I am now on Havoc ROM but ... on last 9.7.18 was all ok. Fully working.
For me doesn't show notifications for missed phone calls, MiuiEu.
I think Led Blinker is better and I will stay with Missed Notifications Reminder.
He wrote in first post: "Don't enable the LED for the "Phone App" as it will interfere when an incoming call is coming! Will fix this soon".
On Havoc is working fine and I have using too: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.dan_ru.ProfReminder it is good combo.

Thought on battery life with this app? Works flawlessly however I'm curious on the battery life.

What rom do you have? On crDroid is all ok ... I am using every day.
Hey guys,
after trying several apps (e.g. NotifyBuddy) and none of them worked as I imagined, I found this app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.used.aoe
It brings not only the possibility of an alternative AOD with icons or edge lighting but also a fake notification LED. That is exactly what I wanted. It works for me with fingerprint scanner deactivated but face unlock activated. Did not try with FOD so far. But I have it set to show Lockscreen on new message and afterwards show the fake LED.
I'm quite satisfied. But I have no long time experience. Just a few hours. So I can't tell anything about battery behavior
Xiaomi 9 SE 10.3.3.0 Global Rom
It worked OK after first install. Then I rebooted ...and it does not work at all. I have tried all the settings I used the first time and all the suggestions given in this thread, but I can't make it work again.
Same here. Any solution?
It does work perfectly . I'm using this app more than a month - no issues whatsoever.
Just add this app to exclusions in security panel , cleaner etc.
Check for the newest version which is 1.50 for today.
If you have any issues , just clean and uninstall older version and install fresh, new one.
Finally i have smartphone with "led" notification . No led was the only cons about this phone for me
I hope it will help you guys.
Ps. Red dot on screenshot is during charging , while i took screenshot , only then is possible to do it - in case if someone will ask to show other color
Ps.2. I'm on xiaomi.eu 11 Rom Dev , but this app also works on Masik Rom 8.5 .
Propably it works on any rom , settings is the key to make it work.

Notification LED simulation App

I stumbled on Reddit at this cool App that simulates a Notification LED using the actual screen. It was also featured on XDA and I decided to give it a try on the Mi9T. The App is called NotifyBuddy and is available for free on the Play Store.
My experience with it over a whole day was great. It actually looks like an LED lighting up. Since we have a Amoled screen it just uses a tiny part of the screen, so there is no huge battery drain. Also to prevent burn in it moves slightly in position every 5 to 10 minutes or so from left to right. You can have different colors for different Apps and how long the LED effect will be active until switching off. I have mine on for 5 minutes.
My major concern was battery life since when the App is active the phone probably doesn't go to deep sleep but after now 24 hours of the phone being unplugged I can say it's great. Just look at the Screenshots. I'm at 50% right now and almost 4,5 hours of SOT over 24 hours of usage. It works very well so far and if this doesn't get worse there is no reason to not keep it. Try it out guys if you are missing a Notification LED on the actual front of the phone.

Doesn't work for me, do you use your fingerprint scanner to unlock because I suspect it might be conflicting with that. None of those similar apps ever work for me
Doesn't work for me also, there its no way to make it work
Weird. It works for me
Doesn't work for me. I use fingerprint scanner. Wish it did work though, as this would be really helpful.

I guess you granted the app the required permissions ( asked when you first launch it) and allow notifybuddy to start in backgroup, display on lock screen ?
I'm running MUI global 10.3.10
Can anyone confirm who does have it working, that it works with fingerprint unlock?

I advise you to try this:
1. Remove the fingerprint.
2. Run the application, when you first start, allow notifybuddy to run in the backgroup, display locks on the screen.
3. And then create a fingerprint.
4. Reboot the phone.
A
- I received the 10.3.10 by OTA... (you can manualy check for update into the "about phone" section)
- NotifyBuddy is working with Fingerprint unlock activated. The fingerprints where created before installing the app.
Tried deleting fingerprint before installing the app.
Then tried again after.
Could not make it work. If anyone has any more suggestions, they will be very much appreciated.
Using Global Stable 10.3.10.0
Doesnt work with AOD
this should be a feature in custom roms.

Prof Reminder. Use this app and forget about any other app that involves notification LED. I use this app since i received this Mi9T. I was upset for missing the usual notification Led and i have searched for other options. This app does not consume any battery and is very easy to set up. When you have missed notification (WhatsApp, sms, call, etc), this app reminds you over and over.... Sorry if it's off topic or something but i just try to help! Respect!

Dude, you "saved my life"with this application.
I came from a OnePlus 3 and never had a Xiaomi phone before, and the lack of a visible LED was annoying me a lot.

You mean like this?
This is normal. And this is from a note 9
Also there is no burn in from AOD because
AOD moves very little after a few secs so it doesnt stay in same position.

Yeah and no, like that but not on locked screen . When i turn off screen i see only that message at the bottom, nothing else, and AOD and screensaver is turned off. Ya its driving me nuts too, no idea how to turn it off. My note 9 does not do this.
Yes, omg, I need to turn this off too. Even if it does shift over a couple pixels it will cause burn-in in that general area. This is a no-no

Not correct. With the Note 9, you can have AOD turn off after a certain time, when AOD turned off the entire screen went black. So for me, at 11pm my screen was solid black and by 7am my AOD was back on.
Kept me from having a mini light during the night. I am not a fan of this being forced on. Mostly due to the high possibility of screen burn in as it doesn't shift much.
I was able to do it! However it requires not having Always on display. Here's how it's done. I purchased package disabler pro which is about $3 for the app. I then disabled always on display entirely from the app. I figured just turning it off in the settings app wont do it since it's always running in the background. However disabling it with package disabler seemed to do the trick and now I no longer get the charging indicator while the screen is off.
You could have done it with disabling/uninstalling with ADB instead, and for free.

I got the package disabler from here https://www.packagedisabler.com/ . It's kind of shady so I advise to use PayPal. You will need to enable the option to sideload applications, do a search for 'unknown sources' on the phone, should pop-up right away. Download the app from the site, search it with the file explorer and install it, you should also receive a code in your email after you pay, paste it. Scroll down until you see 'Always on Display' and select disable. This worked for me. The app is more than $3.00 as they charge in Euros. Hope this help :cyclops:

Why wont Galaxy S20 apps run in background properly?

Dear reader,
I have a Galaxy S20+ and I like using apps such as Tile to run in background with battery optimizations off, however, the problem I am having with this is whenever I go to switch from 1 app to another and then return I keep finding all of my connections between my tiles lost as if it was not aloud to connect to my tile devices whilst running in the background.
Yes, my location services are set to always on, permissions are all granted, and Bluetooth is left on.
If anyone has *any* advice as to how to get my Tiles to be able to remain connected to my phone even while my phone is in sleep mode *please* advise me on what I should do. I've been spending hours on this and I want to be able to use my tiles to call my phone again like back with my old phone. Not only my tiles, but also my autosync app and any future apps I want to be running in background.
Thanks,
Dale

You are correct, the Galaxy S20 lineup does allow for 1 app to be locked into ram (why only one? Who knows?) Buuut unfortunately I have tried this already and it still does not help the problem.
I have reached out to the Tile team about this specifically, going to see if they have any reason(s) why their app wouldn't be functioning correctly.
If you have any other tips or if anyone can relate to this type of problem please feel free to jump in~!
