EDIT: Sorry, this post wen't to completely wrong place. Hope some mod can move this to right section.
I know. There's number of similar threats. I have read them all. Or at least feels like it.
I managed to soft brick my sgs2. I was playing with this new lol boot (dual boot app) from market. I think I pushed something wrong in this app. After that my intention was to make a CWM backup before I start to play seriously with lol boot. At the second I pressed backup from the menu, my phone shut down. Now I'm in a sitsuation whre I can't enter recovery mode. There's just this Samsung Galaxy logo. At the time I had CheckRom v4 installed.
My intention was to flash stock rom via odin. I can enter to download mode just fine BUT odin or kies isn't able to connect to phone. Kies is recognizing the usb connection, but fails to connect it properly. Here's a list what I've tried so far:
- Restart PC (100x)
- Restart Odin (101x)
- Restart Kies
- Reinstall USB Drivers (with Kies and without)
- Trying different computer which has never seen Kies or any Samsung USB drivers
- Reinstalling Windows (W7 x64)
- 3 different USB cables (2 stock Samsung)
- Different USB ports
- Also Nexus S USB drivers as mentioned on another thead in XDA
- Starting odin after USB connection, and before
- Googling with any keywords I have come up
Is there anything else I can do for now?
you mean when you try to connect to odin there is no yellow square ?
maybe try to remove battery for + 90 sec and try to enter in odin ?
ps in this situation you must forget kies since its barely work when everything is fine with the phone ...
Thanks for your reply. Odin doesn't 'do' anything when i connect my device. I'm using version 4.43. When I connect s2, windows install two drivers, Samsung Mobile USB CDC Composite Device and Samsung Mobile USB Modem. I also tried taking battery off. Actually the battery wasn't attached for 6 hours, still no success.
I didn't see this in your list, but have you tried entering download mode and connecting?

can you enter recovery? which recovery you have? Clockwork? 2e, 3e?
Just trying to feel out your situation...
Guys. I think there is some Android God that came to help me. After ~36 hours of googling, crying and throwing the phone to the wall, I've managed to solve my problem! As I was googling cheap shotgun for me, I had a vision. Why not, let's try older odin. The solution was v1.83. And right when I plugged in my phone with this odin, it got recognized! At the same second! Nuff said, I'm satisfied. And do you know what is the best part? I flashed with original stock rom and every app, every launcher and so on was STILL WORKING and running!
Thanks to everyone. I'll be more careful next time!
EDIT: How the heck the custom binary counter went to zero? I was thinking its only possible with usb jig?
not older odin! but the one u need for sgs2 (and 1) only use odin 3 v. 1.83 or v. 1.3.
The one you said IS NOT FOR YOUR PHONE. Sorry I missed that text.
So if I understood you correctly, u are saying that I flashed my phone with wrong version of odin (1.83) ? Sorry, I'cant understand english too good, so can you say your point more literally and s_l_o_w_l_y? Thanks
I only use odin3 v1.3 or odin 3 v.1.83.
As far as I know, you cannot use anything else, since it is not made for your device!
I might be wrong, if so, somebody correct me.
Sent from my GT-I9100
So if you're correct on this, the reason why I couldn't get my phone recognized was the wrong version of odin?

gratz!
to reset your binary, there is only one way to do it. u are right, usb jig.
however, beware, i read somewhere saying that GB ver 2.3.4 onward has a new version of bootloader which prevent usb jig from resetting the counter, which mean samsung is trying to lock the bootloader now. however, flashing the old bootloader still helps (claim by others).
I can get into download mode, but odin doesn't recognize, the only other screen i get too sdays "Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in kies and try again, but Kies cant connect to it, am i screwed? Please help this all happened from changing my screen density, i cant find anyway too restore, i'm not a noob and am in desperate help, i'm gonna be soo bummed if i brick, but i have a feeling if i can get too download mode, there must be a way too restore it.
BbbYou say no recovery, but you should have at least stock recovery I think. Try holding volume up and power, is you can get in, restore to stock from there.
If doesn't work I would start by reinstalling the drivers or try a different computer.
You'll be fine.
Also you should state you rom, what you did before, rooted, etc

I flashed the newest version of Roman BB's AOKP CM9 Kang and tried to change the density, i went too restore my nandroid and it froze before it finished, I tried odin and the first 2 times it recognized but both froze before the end. im kinda couch surfing so now i'm incredibally screwed without a phone, please help.

Roman bb's most updated AOKP, i changed the screen density and when i went to reboot it bootlooped, so i tried restoring a nandroid wich failed, tryed again, and now i cant get too recovery, i can only get too download mode, so i tried using odin too go back too stock, it failed almost at the end, twice, now i cant get odin to recognize my phone and it wont turn on, the only thing i can do is get too download mode, and too the thing saying use kies recovery, which does nothing because it won't connect. I'm at a total lost, i'm so scared i lost my only source of income, at this point in my life, if i dont have a phone, i dont have work or food or a warm place too sleep. Please anyone with any ideas please help.
I hate to be the one to tell you this but you're probably bricked. The giveaway is if you have problems in Odin at data.img:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1504808
Will recommend that if you have further questions to post in that thread.
When going from ICS to anything else you should use ODIN to go back to stock. Anything else and you're risking a brick. More here:

Hope this helps.
One quick question - which phone are you using and which usb cable for odin?
Be sure that using the original usb cable during odin.

I've never heard that one before. What do you think is unique about the stock micro-usb cable?
micro usb cable is not unique. There's standard size of micro usb and pin numbers, etc. But based on the product, it's not fit well each other.
One example is old LG micro usb cable is not going well with Samsung phones.
Of course, I tried this by myself and it always fails. But original micro usb cable which comes together with phone, it never failed.

Yeah now that you mention it I realized my nook color micro usb cable has a longer metal end-piece than my E4GT, and won't connect properly. I thought the length of the metal prong would have also been standardized. Go figure.

This is the problem unless you flashed a gb kernel/recovery first. You should not do anything in ICS recovery.

Its true not all cables are the same, but the funny part is from the beginning of OG Epic days we figured out quick the only thing you should do with the stock cable is charge... its garbage. Maybe the new model is better, havent tried it, but it looked pretty much the same, thin little thing... I use my 4 year old BBerry cable, about as thick as a cat-5... never had an issue. But yeah, try new drivers, cable, diff PC, use a USB that is physically part of the Motherboard of the PC (desktop)... all these things help with the shoddy drivers, etc... you may get lucky...

But you said you did attempt a restore through CWM after the bootloop, correct? If you did and you're having problems you *may* have bricked. Using ODIN is a surefire way to confirm whether you did or not. If you didn't attempt anything through CWM while having CM9 installed then you may not be bricked but are obviously still having issues. As it has been said before - and quite often - CWM at your own risk; ODIN is believed to be the safest option.
Regardless, if you're having problems and the USB cable doesn't fix it I'll still recommend trying to get back to a GB stock ROM by ODIN. At the worst you've lost what you have done since the last backup, since you can restore that from the backup once you get back to GB. With so many bricked phones lately it may be best to err on the side of caution this time...
I've tried everything mentioned, except a different pc, i tried linux, on my pc odin doesntr recognize my phone, , but i just went and plugged a flash fdrive in so now im thinking my computer is having usb problems, so im gonna try another computer, i also made a usb jig to reset the odin counter too take it too sprint but it didnt work... i'm so confused and screwed without my phone. Thank you everyone for trying too help. Any more ides are greatly appreciated! Thanks soo much guys!
ive had this problem before and basically my phone would turn on but no signal sd card didnt work wouldent read in computer but if you cant get it to work and have fifty bucks u can go to mobiletechvideos.com and it will take about mabe 3-4 days mine took a week since i sent on a friday but it costs fifty bucks and the only thing when i came back that wasnt working 100% was the picture gallery. true him if it comes down to it
Well, since you're getting the firmware upgrade error, I'm gonna bet your phone is bricked. That happened to me, I finally took it to the Spring repair center and they couldn't fix it, so they swapped my phone out.

Sprint Epic 4G Touch Appears Bricked
My Sprint Samsung Galaxy S II Epic 4G Touch will no longer connect to my computer (also tried another computer and different usb cable), after a failed attempt to upgrade to ICS 4.0. The phone will not load up now to 'normal' operating mode.
It will only come up to the message:
"Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again." I can no longer get into Recovery or Download modes. At least none that work. (See below)
I also built and tried the USB jig solution, which does power on the phone, but it then comes up and says:
FACTORY MODE
PRODUCT NAME" GT-19100
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: YES (2 counts)
CURRENT BINARY: SAMSUNG OFFICIAL
Downloading...
Do not turn off target!!
But connecting to my PC still fails. Any ideas?
I have an Epic that immediately boots to recovery. Neither Odin or Heimdall see the phone (tried many different usb cables and computers).
I've tried flashing different boot imgs thinking maybe that was the problem. Any thoughts? Like I said, I still have recovery and can flash from it, it's just when I reboot it goes straight to recovery.

Restore a bml backup over an mtd rom? Looks like if you can't flash another rom and have it boot you're going to have to keep fidiling with odin or heimdall until one recognizes... things to try are..... 1. GET A GOOD CABLE! Blackberry cables imo are the best... 2. Uninstall all samsung drivers on your comp and reinstall them! 3. Keep trying different ports and different combinations of battery and sd card out while trying to odin!

If you can't mount usb storage it could be your port... but it could also be the drivers... try uninstalling them and reinstalling....
Not bricked if it has life, just sponged...may as well be a brick though eh? Try the drivers as Flast suggested.

Maybe I've misread the issues here. As I understand it you have 2 problems:
You are forced into recovery by just turning on the device.
Neither Heimdall nor Odin recognize your device.
For issue #1: Why not take the SD card out, put what ever rom (use your current partition type: BML or MTD) on to the card and flash that in the recovery?
For issue #2: You have a few options here:
Firstly, I would be to make sure you have the drivers installed and working properly.
Do not use the stock cable.
Try all USB ports that are directly connected to the motherboard. (No emulated/hub/front chassis ports.)
If still nothing, then try connecting your device to another computer to see if the USB port works properly. (It's always good to make sure the connectors are clean of debris.)
I understand I am not using "brick" in the traditional sense, but in the sense that I cannot do anything with it....

1 - I have tried a variety of ROMs/Kernels/etc and nothing will allow the phone to boot...just straight to recovery every time.
2 - As stated, I have tried many computers/cables/driver reinstalls/etc and nothing is finding the phone. I have done ODIN on this phone before, and had no issues.
As this point (and I don't actually use the phone, was just going to get it running again) I have to assume the USB connector on the phone is effed...
Just to make sure...when trying to odin, you are going into download mode(hold 1+power) correct?

Are you booting into CWM recovery or stock phone recovery? If cwm have you tried a live ROM like this sucker http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1464791 Not sure if it would help in your situation, Years of old linux experience... Android confuses the hell out of me.
Just posted in another thread that I have a similar issue. My phone will boot all the way up, but I cant get any computer to recognize it. I have tried multiple cables/port/computer combinations, as well as uninstalling the drivers.
Oddly, my phone is full functional and boots fine, but when it goes to sleep, it never wakes up and I have to pull the battery. In the past when this has happened, my solution has been to Odin back to stock, but I can't even do that now...
Hey guys,
I had a look around the forum found some similar issues but nothing that fit exactly.
I am stuck with my note 8, in an awkward position, I was flashing a new ROM onto the device, it was having some issues doing it (It wouldn't work, Would always fail) was using Odin, and the Note 8 toolkit. I was changing the recovery from CWM to TWRP and then it all went bad, now i have some firmware error come out whenever i turn the device on, I can still get into download mode, but nothing else. I tried using Odin to flash the stock ROM or even a recovery back onto the device and it fails every time. I also tried using Kies to do a firmware restore, it downloads the firmware then it can't see the device.
Any help would be great =\
Thanks =D

Make sure you have a good USB cable... I have gone through 2 Samsung OEM cables, as one did a melt down and the other had intermittent charging disconnects. Have gone to Blackberry OEM cable as it is one of the best OEM stock cables I have had for some time, 5 years now and has never failed.
Second, did you enable USB debugging before doing the custom rom?
Are you using Odin 3.7?
I am surprised that Kies downloaded a ROM, it should have detected that the device was custom. Maybe what you are seeing with Kies is normal for custom ROMs. Don't know... What is the ROM info for the Kies download. I have an odd feeling that you flashed with an incompatible ROMs as the Note 8.0 has three different hardware configurations.

Tried a different Cable before and it still didn't work, But I thought I would try a different one again (From a nexus 7 I have) worked like a charm, As if I have 2 Damaged cables Haha.
Thanks for the Help Mate =D.
I've had this old note II pretty much since it came out have had plenty of ROMS on it and normally have had no problems. I recently had SlimKat on there and I was having battery life issues so I reinstalled it to no avail, so then I tried moving to Blisspop and that fixed the battery life issue some but I was having issues with crashing and the proximity sensor not registering during calls. I found a thread with this issue that directed me to Shift Kernal as a solution to the proximity sensor and crashing issues. I reflashed Blisspop, flashed the Shift kernel, then Gapps and now I have a brick. Upon turning on the phone it gets stuck on the Samsung boot screen. It won't open CWM recovery anymore to access my nandroid backups. I can get it into download mode but I cannot get my computer to recognize the phone as a USB device anymore. I have tried different drivers, cords, usb ports, and even different computers so I assume thats not the issue. Any suggestions would be helpful or even just telling me its a definite hard brick so I'll quit tinkering with it.
If you can get DL MODE it's not a brick...
Reflash of a stock rom via Odin should help...
Device could have partition damage...but I'd avoid the PIT flash until after the stock rom attempt..
I don't know what bootloader you have...but if you have version 4.2 or lower then flash a complete stock rom..
If you have 4.3 official or higher...then use an ODIN version from Zen Arcades threads as they don't contain the loader image...g

I can get it into download mode but when I connect it to a computer its not recognized as a device and therefore doesn't show in ODIN to flash those ROMs. Is there anyway to force recognition of a USB device. Ouch...
Well....beyond switching versions of Odin...(you've likely done this already)...the only action you could take would be a direct ADB push to the device...
It's been 2 years since I've attempted that...and can't remember the thread locations for the tutorials.
There is also the possibility that the EMMC is damaged.
My second device had this failure and I never recovered it...
I'm sorry that I can't provide links...but I know the threads exist.
So start a search and I'll do the same...g
Edit:
I keep coming back too a PC environment problem...(perhaps)
Run Odin as admin only...and quadruple check those USB drivers...making sure to completely uninstall the old version before loading new drivers.
Also..try using Odin 1.85....not 3.09...as it is a bit more reliable.
Also use only a factory cable connected to the PC mother board only...no front ports...
Plug in the device in download mode then reboot the PC and then open Odin...
Brainstorming here and hoping it'll trigger that dang "added" symbol for ya....g
Thanks I'll try those and see what happens!
I prefer Odin 3.07 on a Win7 machine.
I see the thing...
You damaged your bootloader, try re-flashing it through Fastboot on ADB, if tour pc does not recognize the device then try to install the latest USB drivers for your model.
