Intermittend problem with SD card - LineageOS Questions & Answers

Any advice appreciated. Here my observations:
Redmi Note 4 with Android 9. At most times the latest update is installed but the issue not depending on that.
Usually a SD card error is reported after recharging the phone and the battery is at 100%. Seldom the error occurs "out of the blue" (means there is no obvious reason). Restarting the phone fixes the issue and the card is definitely not damaged and accesible on my Linux machines. This happens with SD cards from various manufacturers.
Is this a LineageOS or a generic AOSP problem?
How do I remount the card since it is not shown under settings?
Txs -mgw

After a reboot or crash the sd may not be fully mounted. But should be recognized.
Issues at the contacts (clean the sd's pads) often cause yiu to be prompted to format the sd. Which will not work, but could still erase all content.
My SatNav has frequent sd issues which can akways be cured for some time by ejecting and reinserting the card.
Of couse this will happen more often, if the thing is left in the car permabently, but even storing it dry at home don't help much. Nothing like this i experienced with any phone or tablet.
Long time ago i had a Nokia phone with MMC tray, where the contacts of the reader weren't centered. But caused issues with the officially unsupported MMC+ cards with narrower contact pads. Requiring to seat the card with care, securely aligned with the left side of the tray under the battery.
Thermal effects could reseat the card in your case slightly furing charge.

Hmm. The issue still persists but the frequency is less often. I do almost never remove the SD card. It is also not dependant on the the SD card type/model.

Disappearing SD card

Since I've had my Artemis occasionally after a soft reset the SD card appears as not installed. I would have to remove the battery and sim etc, replace the SD card into the holder and start-up the phone and it'd usually be ok. The only trouble is lately it seems to be doing this more frequently and it is becoming more difficult to get the phone to recognise the card upon start-up again. Anyone else experience this? Have an cure?
i've had the same problem on my magican. The solution i found was to remove the SD card and place it back. It seems to me that cardreader's contacts broken.
Its big but you must read first.

So the card is corrupt? Because when I stick it into my pc it reads it perfectly fine, no problems or slowness.
My phone has stopped recognising the card completely now, but when I started the phone in safe mode using iLauncher it recognised it surprisingly. I'm suspecting there may be a piece of software or a setting stopping the phone from recognising it. I'll have a read through that link some more tho just in case there is a solution.
If anyone else has another solution then it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
Update: I've tried another 2 known working SD cards and neither of which are recognised by my device to it looks as tho its an issue with the phone and not the card. Has anyone experienced this before?
I've the same problem. I use 2 SanDisk cards, 512Mb and 2Gb, both of them seem to disappear as I boot the device. It hapens 50% of times and begins when I installed the HTC ArtemisSDEnhancement program.
I've tried to uninstall and reinstall several times and to format the crad but the errors continues at the 50% times.
When the P3300 reads the card I notice an abnormal slow response to any input and at the end it hungs for a big while. If you leave it alone it comes back but I usually need the phone now and I must have to soft reset.
I'm about to hard reset and try again but I don't have time.
Well I hard reset my device before I was going to post it back to o2 for a replacement and surprise surprise its working fine again!
That was 23 days ago and since then its behaved perfectly. I've installed the SD enchancement just in case but not certain if that's made any difference. Finger crossed its the last time the card starts disappearing.
This happens on my MDA C3 too now and again.
When it does, a soft reset does not solve it.
I have to take the battery out and then reinsert it.
After powering up the problemis not there.
Anyone know why this is happening as its really inconvenient to keep taking the battery out.
Thanks in advance.
BTW, one thing I have noticed, it seems to happen more often after a registry value change if that help anyone???

Memory Card = SLOW Phone

Hi, I just want to see if this is a common problem or it's just my memory card. I bought a 16GB card from Newegg to hold all my music and whenever the card is actually in my phone, (Flashed to EnergyROM Geneis), it is SLOW. Lagging everywhere, almost useless and occassionaly after long hours will give me a "emergency low memory" error, and I will have to reset by taking the battery out. When I remove the card, after a few minutes the phone is MUCH faster, it still lags a bit, but definately useable, and it's just very smooth compared to the jaggy and stiff movements when the card is in.
Whats up? Thanks.
naa, i wouldnt say this is normal mate, prob a duff memory card, try another one and see how it goes.... i have noticed a slow-down on mine when i use my storage card to save all my emails , but apart from that, no difference card in / card out.
Come to think of it.... I may be having the same problem.
About a week ago I installed 3 new pieces of software. After a few days I noticed that my phone has been feeling laggy. So 1 by1 I unistalled the software... still the problem persists.
Reading your post made me think... hmm about a week ago I also installed a 4 gb memory card! The card works fine, I can access it, and store stuff on it.
Also, come to think of it. I was making panoramic photos last night and my phone kept freezing after the 2nd photos. And would crash- resetting itself. I had the phone set to save images to the card. Setting it to save them to the phone it stopped crashing... maybe my memory card is too slow. Perhaps, there is a setting in the phone which affects the through put from the phone to the card that can be tweaked. I seam to remember see settings for power saving features for the micro sd card.. Could this be the culprit?
my well-used card made my tp2 quirky so i reformatted fat32 in vista and all is good.
maybe there is so much songs in your card.
or your card speed is slowly.

My external SD card is going bonkers

I keep seeing a message saying sd card was suddenly removed, and then it reactivates the SD card and everythings fine, and sooner or later, the cycle keeps repeating.
I saw this happening in the last week or so on my galaxy s3 i had before the note 2, so i know its not the phone and its the card.. but i was wondering what i could do to maybe fix this? I already tried formatting the sd card once, but im thinking maybe this card is permanetely damaged somehow?? Anything I can do to kinda get it to stop acting up or am i out of luck?
If you can backup the contents of your SD card to a PC, try this video...

This is apparently a recurring issue, it happens on my 64gb uhs1 card too, and its a genuine card. I still haven't been able to track down the cause of it, and it's fairly annoying. The card just locks up and ignores commands sent to it and the kernel times out on it and sees it as dead. No actual data loss or anything.
yeah.. i feel like everytime i turn the screen on i see 'preparing SD card'
im thinking it has an effect on battery too.

[Q] ext SD issue

I'm having a problem with my ext sd card. It starts fine but after a while (usually a couple hours) it reads 0mb in storage setting. The only way to fix it (which doesn't work too well with poweramp) is unmount it and mount it again then it reads 59.67gb like it should or restart the phone. I remember having an sd card problem with my gs2 where it would randomly say the sd card has been removed but this is different. The problem came after almost a month of no problems using Dandroid 4.7 at&t with stock kernel. I love every feature about this rom (other than poor battery life, just disabled wifi location access to see if that helps) and the look of it and i don't want to reflash something else. Any suggestions?
I had similar issues with an sdcard I was using. I was able to determine the card was behaving erratically with the heat from the phone. It eventually got worse and I replaced the card with a different brand card and all is well.

[Q] SD card unmounting by itself

Hi , wanted to bring up a problem Ive been experiencing with my LG G3 here on the forums.
I have completely stock LG G3 D852 on Kitkat 4.4.2. The problem is this: At random times I will wake my phone up to discover a notification that the SD card has been unmounted. Physically the SD Card is secure and has not been moved or shaken at all.
I will then attempt to go to 'settings' and mount the SD card. At this point the phone notifies that the SD card cannot be mounted or cannot be read.
I have found that by simply restarting the phone, the SD card goes right back to normal with all files fully readable as if nothing ever happened.
My closest understanding about what may be going on is that some apps are writing some sort of backup files to my sd card which are causing some sort of corruption (just a theory) the reason for this is that this phenomena seemed to occur more frequently after doing heavy editing on my desktop visualizer widget, but it may have been simply a coincidence.
The SD Card is a Kingston Ultimate 64GB (Class 10 UHS-I) microSDXC Card, Up to 90MB/s read, 45MB/s write (SDCA10/64GB) which was placed in the phone brand new about the same time the phone was also new and formatted immediately in the LG G3. It has been in use for a little less than three weeks.
My question is, has anyone else experienced anything similar? What are your experiences? Please share below. And has anyone stumbled upon any solutions?
