BONUS THEMES & File Manager
Plus as a special treat I'm including a full guide below to use Materialised Theme and Aroma File Manager both working within TWRP 3.1.1-0
Themes available from here
1. Install the latest TWRP linked above.
2. Download one of the themes above (see screenshots below for recommendations)
3. Download Aroma File Manager for TWRP from here
4. Once booted into TWRP select Install and choose the theme.zip you've downloaded.
5. You will instantly see the theme applied
6. Click Install again and this time select "materialised_aromafm_200-b7.zip"
7. Once that zip has completed installing open the Materialised Options (the art palette icon on the top right)
8. Tick the box that says "Use Aroma File Manager"
9. Press back and select "File Manager" from the list.
10. Swipe to start Aroma File Manager
11. Enjoy!!
See attached thumbnails for themes in action.

Thanks, dude !
Working OK for both MIUI and AOSP based ROMs?
Working with ASAP and MIUI and encryption all round.
That's great! Thanks for sharing
After flashing this recovery, it boots right back into stock recovery. Any idea what i'm doing wrong? Do I have to disable dm-verity or something?

You can keep dm-verity. After flashing I'd suggest leaving fastboot and booting straight into recovery via fingerpress.
Flashing SuperSU or Magisk or similar should ensure survival of TWRP if it's being overwritten.
Works great but I found :
1. Reboot to TWRP is so slowly... Why ?
2. System won't boot into TWRP when wipe everything and reboot to TWRP. I need to turn phone off and then press volume up + power button to enter TWRP again.
Is there any chance to fix those ?

1. I've noticed the slow speed too, I'm 100% sure why it's happening but I have some ideas.
2. The same ideas will hopefully address this issue.
It was a quick and dirty port since there was no native TWRP, I haven't had the time yet to improve it but I'll build an updated release based on 8.2.5.0 sometime soon and look to making it official.

I've had no issues with USB-OTB, with any standard formatted flash drive (FAT32, NTFS, EXT4).
This is also the first I've heard of anyone having such an issue.
Does the OTG drive mount successfully in whatever ROM you're using? Is it attached prior to booting to TWRP? Can you provide additional information.
TWRP doesn't like remounting the same USB multiple times - i.e if you unplug the USB while in TWRP, and then reattach the same drive it won't remount it.
Sorry to feedback lately because I was too busy in past 2-week.
Well, new TWRP is working well.
The only one problem: If I want to upgrade firmware, TWRP will be replaced by MIUI stock recovery after flashing new version of MIUI ROM.
It's pretty annoying because I need to get into fastboot mode then flash TWRP. After that, entering TWRP and flash lineage OS ...
Is it possible to be fixed in next coming version ?
Kris
May I know how to flash the TWRP rom?
I'm on MIUI.eu ROM, can I flash full global MIUI original ROM with TWRP without bricking the phone ??
Before on Redmi note 3 u can't flash original ROM without bricking the phone, u needed special TWRP (zxc version) or modify the ROM
Can you explain me ?

Hey guys,
I got a problem and I am not sure what I’m doing wrong. I wanted to install a custom ROM to my Xiaomi Mi 6 but it doesn’t work. I’ve done similar steps to my Redmi 4X and there it worked just fine. A little help would be really appreciated.
Here is what I did. I updated my new device to the latest stable version with the updater app. I then had to install the official developer ROM (from MIUI) because of a bug (not able to register for unlock). I requested the unlock officially and after the waiting time unlocked the device with the MIUI unlock flash tool. In the developer options the device was shown as unlocked and also the bootloader was unlocked.
I installed TWRP 3.2.1-1 from the official website. After booting into TWRP I installed the latest mi-globe ROM (v9.5.3.0 oreo!). After a reboot I could see the logo of the mi-globe ROM but nothing would happen.
I did one mistake. The first time I installed the mi-globe ROM I forgot to wipe Dalvik, Cache, Data and System partition (clean install). So, after I recognized my mistake I rebooted into TWRP made the wipe and installed again but with no success.
After that I tried to install the next lower version of mi-globe (v9.2.4.0 with Android 7.1.1) but this got also stuck at the boot animation. The animation still moves but nothing happens. I waited for about 10 minutes.
5 minutes ago I flashed the official developer ROM with TWRP and it worked. The phone is booting. I was not able to flash the official stable ROM only the developer version works?!?!
Any idea what I did wrong? I flashed custom ROMs a couple of times but never got a problem like this.
Thank you!
Problem solved!
I got it working now. Problem was that wiping data is not enough. I read it in another post. So, if someone has the same problem here is how I solved it:
1. Boot into TWRP
2. FORMAT data (not wipe) - go to wipe, click button in right corner to format data
3. Type in “yes” (all data will be erased!!)
4. Reboot into recovery (TWRP)
5. Go to wipe and wipe Dalvik, Cache, and System
6. Reboot into recovery (TWRP)
7. Go to install and install zip of ROM you would like to install
8. Reboot system - worked!!
:good::good:
The rebooting into recovery is just for safety. I read that if system is wiped the partition could not be available for installation if you don't reboot. So, I guess its better to reboot just be sure.
I have one question or help if I can. I have Mi6 with a global stable rom 9.5.3.0 version. I want to go to the global developer rom. 8.4.12 how to do it if there is a way to not open the bootloader.

just download the developer rom an place it in phone memory. goto settings>about>system update. press the 3 dot button and choose update package . Developer rom will be installed without unlocking bootloader.

Hey guys, so this is my problem:
I've bought a OnePlus 5T some days after its release. When i searched for a tutorial teaching how to root the device (i don't know the root process deeply), there were just a few videos at that time. This was the video i watched to root me device (some people already told me that this isn't the best method, but it was what I had at the moment):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9SsIH6iauYQ
As i told, i'm a layman and doesn't know the root process, and now i need to update urgently my Android (its currently on the Android version it was when i bought it: 7.1.1). I've found some threads with a similar situation, but i got lost in all the details that i don't know, like "you need to unlock the bootloader", "just flash the TWRP and stuff", but i need a more simple language like "click this, click that". I really need it now, so i'm even thinking about searching for someone trustable to do it or transfering some cash to anyone who helps me, because i don't wanna lose anything important in the process. Anyone that can help me, PLEASE?!
Thanks in advance

I am not sure, if I understood it correctly. You need to update your device that's clear but do you need your device still rooted afterwards?
Because if not just update your device, it should be that simple. If you need to root your device afterwards just follow this thread:

Sorry, actually i forgot this detail. I have a root based on SuperSU and i would like to have the Magisk one after i update my Android. What you think is the best way to do it?
Btw, just one question: you said that if i didn't want to keep the root, i could just update my Android, but once i click in the system update option, the update fails, i believe its because of the root right?

No, because you have to download the whole update package. Normally the device detects itself if it is rooted/unlocked, so there should be the option to download the whole package. With that the update should not fail.

Ok, i read the guide so i'll try to follow it once i get home since i don't have admin access on my work.
Just 2 questions:
1- how do i remove SuperSU? I'm asking cause i've download the file you attached and there is no .exe file or something on it, do i put the files on my phone and then execute the uninstaller by the phone itself? If so, how i do it? Btw, i was taking a look at the SuperSU app and it has this option : "Exchange superuser app - Cleaning to exchange for another superuser app", it works just the same as your uninstall?
2- Even reading FunkWizard's guide, i'm still confused of which order i should do the things. Because i need to:
- Uninstall SuperSU
- Download full OTA on OnePlus website and install it through TWRP
- Install Magisk
is there a best order to do all this? Am i missing something?
Thanks
The attached unsu file is for removing super su by flashing thru twrp ! its not not for pc i.e. no .exe file.
i assume that your bootloader is unlocked and twrp already installed then just flash the unsu zip in twrp > wipe dalvik/cache > reboot, super su gets removed.
You can also go like this (you may need a pc for this):
Since you are on nougat build download the oreo version first.
first download the full oos rom from here on pc : https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3728665http://
download latest magisk zip from here :https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/official-magisk-v7-universal-systemless-t3473445http://
download no verity zip to remain decrypted, here :https://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-5/how-to/guide-how-to-decrypt-data-partition-t3642144
boot your phone in twrp , wipe everything (first transfer your important data from phone to pc/usb otg), in twrp you can go advanced > format data > yes > done > reboot twrp > now there is nothing in your phone by formatting internal storage (everything). Now while in twrp transfer your already downloaded oos and magisk zips from pc to your phone through the data cable.
Now, flash oos zip > magisk zip > no verity zip > wipe dalvik/cache > reboot > that's it, enjoy your new android version !

Hey buddy, i followed your steps and now the phone isn't starting totally, it stops on the OnePlus start screen with the white balls around the red one. Should i do the process all again? Can i start TWRP in this situation?
edit: nvm, i try it again and now it works normally But Magisk isn't working, when i try to flash it through TWRP it shows "Updater process ended with ERROR: 1
Error instaling zip file '/sdcard/Magisk....' "
And Android version is still 7.1.1 , so i need to update the Android through the phone itself and then i reapply the root?
edit2: sorry for so many edits in this same reply, let me try to explain the status of all the process right now to see if you can give me some tip:
- Android is on 8.1.0 version right now; Do i need to upload it more?
- Bootloader is unlocked (at least when i go "Enable OEM Unlocking" on Developer options, i cant check this option cause it says that bootloader is already unlocked)
- I can't acess TWRP on reboot now, it seems that i enter on some Oneplus Recovery Mode, not TWRP itself
- Root isn't working
If you need any extra information just ask me

No problem FunkWizard, take your time and answer when possible, i'll hold my fingers to don't get a worst situation.
Rom/OS version : Custom ROM(i believe)/8.1.0
TWRP: no; after everything i tried, when i try to acess TWRP now, it doesn't enter on TWRP itself, it shows a different recover screen, like a recovery screen of Oneplus system, just like the picture i attached.
Magisk: no; one of my goals in this entire process was to uninstall SuperSU and install Magisk after all, but when TWRP was working and i tried to install Magisk, i got an error and Magisk didn't install correctly, and since i've uninstalled the SuperSU, i'm without root right now, and i can't even try to install it since TWRP is working right now :crying:

If you have oneplus recovery instead of twrp then you can't be on custom ROM, it has to be on oxygenos. Unless I know of what version I would not be able to give you the step by step process.
U can flash twrp easily, simply download the latest Bluspark twrp and flash it via fastboot steps on the unlock device thread in the guides section.
There on you can download and flash the full zips from twrp followed by Magisk.

Hello. Just moved from iPhone to a OP3 and I am fairly new to the whole ROMing and rooting thing. My OP3 is currently in LineageOS 15.1 and I want to update to the Open Pie beta that OnePlus recently released..
What steps would I have to go through to do this? I have read that Bootloader needs to be locked back again but I do not know how to accomplish that. I have twrp as the recovery and rooted with magisk.
Any help will be very appreciated.
How to guide
INSTRUCTIONS - DOWNLOAD FILES
Go to https://eu.dl.twrp.me/oneplus3 and download TWRP recovery (.img file).
Go to https://www.oneplus.com/global/support/softwareupgrade > select your phone (OP3/OP3T).
2.1 Download stock 8.1 firmware (.zip file).
2.2 Download stock recovery (.img file).
Go to https://www.xda-developers.com/oneplus-3-oneplus-3ts-oxygenos-beta-android-9-pie/ and download your stock 9 firmware (.zip file). I see you mentioned this download link instead - well, if it's zip file, it's OK!
INSTRUCTIONS - PROCEDURE
Go to bootloader (AKA download mode) and flash TWRP recovery: fastboot flash recovery twrp_recovery.img
Go to your flashed TWRP recovery > Wipe > Advanced Wipe > Select everything ("USB OTG" might throw error - ignore) > Swipe to wipe. Screenshot on the web.
Copy stock 8.1 firmware to your phone (while in the same TWRP recovery) to /sdcard/ directory and flash it.
Go to bootloader and flash stock recovery: fastboot flash recovery recovery.img
While in bootloader, lock bootloader: fastboot oem lock. On the phone using volume buttons select "Yes" to lock bootloader. Your phone should show you some sort of wiping procedure on the screen and reboot to Oxygen OS with Android 8.1.
Move/Copy your stock 9 firmware to your phone internal storage (simply, while in Android), go to Settings > System updates > Click on top-right gear icon > Local upgrade > Select your stock 9 firmware zip file.
Once update is applied and phone rebooted, I STRONGLY suggest going into stock recovery and performing full factory reset ("wipe EVERYTHING").

Q: Why Do I need to flash 8.1 if I can flash 9.0 in the first place?
A: Well, you can, but I tested it and only possible way to lock bootloader while being on stock 8.1 oxygenOS and recovery. If you flash stock recovery and oxygenos 9 - nothing happens when you lock bootloader.
Q: Any easier (or other) way?
A: Restoring to older version (don't remember if android 6 or 7 or 8) by following this guide. Then just simply apply upgrade via local upgrade. Not sure if bootloader will be locked afterwards. This also useful if you messed with partition sizes/partitions on your phone. Example.
SIDE NOTES
Battery life seem to be worse compared to SkyDragonOS. Not talking about missing customization options, but it's fine to me.
Google camera ports are still better option than stock camera on OxygenOS 9.
You rock my man. I will give it a shot. Thank you very much

Just a word of caution. Wiping everything will wipe all your photos, videos etc. So backup everything beforehand.
I don't know where you read about bootloader having to be locked. For your information, I am running that ROM with bootloader unlocked. It is your call.

Read it somewhere on reddit. But you're the third person to tell me it doesnt have to be unlcked, so I will go ahead and skip that.
I do have to install OOS 8.1 first tho right? or can I just flash the open beta update on TWRP after I do a factory reset?

I don't know. I happened to be on OOS 5.0.8 with bootloader unlocked when I flashed the Closed Beta Pie. When the Open Beta became available, I flashed it. On both occasions, I wiped all and my bootloader remains unlocked. In fact, I make it a point to remain unlocked always so that I don't face issues while flashing.
Sorry if this has been posted but is it possible to switch to a custom ROM when running Android 10 (v11.0.4.0)?
If you have adb installed on your pc you only need these 2 for twrp, there might be a newer versions but they work fine for me.

So should I just use MiFlash to boot each image file individually? Then I assume once TWRP is in I can flash as usual?

Never used MIflash so I don't know how that works. I thought it's only to install stock rom, but I might be wrong. Use ADB to install custom ROMs
With the img file you can boot to twrp with ADB command. Then after installing a custom rom use the zip file to flash it .
I am unable to find any adaptable guide anywhere. Tried using XiaomiTools v2 and was unable to flash because my device (even though has a Mi account created) cannot be linked to my device, I have no where to link it on AndroidOne Global version on Android 10. No clue how you guys are doing this. I've flashed phones since Blackberry models here on XDA and this is the only device instructions are halfed.

find dee_stroy twrp img one. use adb (platfom-tool), then turn off your device and make it go to bootloader state (fastboot). on platform-tool open cmd. (just type on folder path cmd) then type fastboot boot (the name twrp).img and you are set to go. if you wanted to install twrp permanently, after u boot twrp via bootloader, copy the twrp zip to your device and install it. the procedure is all; the same for every rom tho. nothing has changed

This has been documented elsewhere...
The short version is
1) fastboot boot twrp.img
2) adb push twrp-installer.zip /sdcard
3) use TWRP to install the zip
If you also want Magisk you have to install that again. Flash from TWRP or follow the usual process.
