Greetings,
Since the android 10 update, which has been around for a while the recording volume of the microphone seems to have significantly dropped.
Does anyone have any idea why this happened? or encountered this?
EDIT: found a reddit post with what seems to be a similar issue to mine

Just wondering if anyone else is have issues with low speaker volume after updating to 4.3 (Rooted OTA)?
Ever since then, I have noticed that the volume level of the speakers is way lower than before. Specifically, the speakerphone is almost unusable in situations where it was amazing before (like in the car, or a large conference room). Most times, it's like the sound is only coming out of the bottom and not the top.
Anyone else have this issue or have any ideas on what can be done to fix?
Well crap... I guess I am all alone on this one.
Hi,
got my OP3 yesterday and already upgraded to OxygenOS 3.2.4. Works great, only issue I have is the very low microphone volume when recording WhatsApp Voicenotes, I have to turn up the volume of the speakers to the max to even understand it at all, which is a bit weird. Even when I directly talk into the microphone at the bottom of the phone besides the headphone jack, it is still very quiet.
Is there a fix for this? Anyone else experienced this? I only found a fix for the video recording microphone quality, but I don't think that that will affect WhatsApp Voicenotes, right?

+1. The OnePlus 3 has very low volume WhatsApp voice note recordings, and when you use headphones to record it's louder but there's a constant jack noise that's kinda annoying
Sent from my OnePlus3 using XDA Labs

Any solution yet?

I have the same problem when I use WhatsApp Voice Messages.
I have the same problem too with Oxygen 3.2.6 .
If somebody can help, I'll appreciate it A LOT. It's being annoying deal with that issue.
It happens to me too. I'm on CM13
Hey guys,
I've noticed a problem with my OP3 ever since upgrading to Android 7 that I can't seem to find any information about.
Since the upgrade, the volume of the speakerphone when on loudspeaker is deafly quiet. I've tried both FreedomOS and AOSPA and both have the same issue.
The speakers work fine in every other way and the issue only presented after upgrading to Nougat, which leads me to think it's a software issue rather than hardware related.
Has anyone else had this issue?
I've searched and only find references to low in call microphone issues with the OP3; absolutely nothing relating to the speakerphone's loudspeaker.
Have the exact same problem.. Driving me nuts
Did you find a solution?
Running on Xiaomi eu forever and now on the latest, but incall volume has gotten so low I can barely hear anything. Speaker volume is fine. I've tweaked an xml file as per instructions I found but it's done nothing to help. Any ideas?

all I can say is I agree in-call volume ear speaker is very low. Thanks for bringing this up. I just got this device after a long time. Any idea if this was an issue on miui11 or 10 android 9?
checked other versions-same issue

The last MIUi 11 20.3.26 also has the same issue. Maybe it is an Android 10 thing? I would like to try Android 9 with the latest available MIUI for that Android level to see if it was an issue there.
EDIT
I checked my Mi max3 with global Android 10-miui 11, and android 9 w/ miui 10 and miui 11-all have the same issue as in Android 10 with miui 12 (eu)...super low in-call volume. The mixer file does not offer many options as say in the past on other phones and older android versions. Wondering if there is another file that needs inspection/tweaking. All "solutions" on internet focus on bluetooth, or speaker or media volume using apps whatnot without addressing real issue (almost every thread digresses from the initial request-lol typical)
EDIT2
downgraded all the way to 8.1 Android MIUI 10 (10.0.1.0 OEDMIFH) same low volume issue. I cannot go further back in time due to the arb thing but guess low in call volume has always been an issue with this device. (recall getting this device back a couple of times over the years but do not recall having the sound issue-unless my memory does not serve me right-since others have reported it (also on EU miui board), it must be a prevalent issue)
Ok, I've solved this, was very simple after! The speaker at top of the screen must've been filled with dust! I ran a toothbrush over it and poked a few holes with a needle and it's working great now
It seems that in peak volume there are clicks from the earpiece, if though it's too much for the earpiece to produce in volume/frequency, is anyone else facing a similar issue?

yes me too, also whatsapp audio
Hi fediroth
It seems that the clicking sounds are probably a hardware failure, and Vodafone are replacing the phone for a new one as I'm still within the first 30 days from purchase.
I would recommend you to do the same if possible, as it doesn't seem to be an issue that can be resolved with an update or settings.
I will do a factory reset and I will update if that resolves the issue.
