hello ladies and gents I bought a note 3 yesterday from some dude thinking I could fix it and get a note 3 on the cheap. I was wrong the problem is hard to fix.
1 It will not register to network
it is not blacklisted or network blocked.
Ive read somewhere that after you register to many different sims it wont allow it to connect to network anymore.
what can I do I wonder as a last ditch effort if I replace the motherboard if that will work any suggestions please?

Have you tried updating the firmware? check the APN on the phone once you insert the sim.
You could try taking it to a T-Mobile store to see if they can get it to register. Sometimes they can activate it when you can't.

Try updating to the latest firmware. Something might have broke the modem during an upgrade. Go to www.sammobile.com

It feels like it might be hardware related but I have no idea how to fix that. some piece that deals only with registering on networks.

Well, that's interesting.
If you go to settings, mobile networks, and search for networks, can you select the network and have it register?
Also double check the apn settings. I borked my hidden apn settings once and couldn't get back on the network until i wiped and reflashed full stock.
If none of that works, try also resetting the nv. Look for my thread on 900t service mode for instructions.
Sent from my leanKernel 3.16 powered stock 4.4.2 SM-N900T
I've already rebuilt the nv build. It's a family mobile sim(tmobile)
Also the apn settings I can try that again haven't changed them since I did a flashed back to stock. I doubt it will change anything usually you can still register.
oh the sim doesn't even have service anymore anyhow. Yesterday was the last day but I don't think that would change being able to register anyway.
Notice that it turns off mobile data when I try to register it may be a clue but I haven't been able to make anything of it.

toastido I ran into your thread yesterday and did that but ill rebuild again maybe ill get lucky?

When I first got my HTC LTE was working fine then it suddenly stopped. I called T-Mobile who was clueless, so I popped the sim back into my S7 Edge and Nexus 6P age LTE worked perfectly. I decided to try unlocking s-off etc to flash a more current firmware since mine was on a really old one. I flagged 1.30xx stock then LeeDroid rom being sure to not decrypt data during the process. LTE still won't won't, I'm only getting HSPA+ which sucks. I have another sim card I could activate, but I want to know if there's another way to fix this? My APN seems fine, as does the preferred radio mode. Any suggestions/additional troubleshooting that I can do before sending the phone back
Update:
Here are some videos I made showing the issue:
Part 1
Part 2
I will add another one using the stock ROM to further prove the issue exists on both the unlocked firmware, and T-Mobile one.
You root your phone, mess it up and then send it back? Kinda messed up.
Did you try flashing the latest modem?

No, I stated the issue was there before then. I only unlocked it and flashed updated firmware in an attempt to fix the issue which it didn't. Clearly we all need to read thoroughly before responding to an OP so we don't look arrogant in the end.
Now, on another note I mentioned this issue was already present from the moment I started using the phone 100% stock. It will sometimes still get LTE, but it only sticks for 10-30 seconds then drops to H/H+ immediately. My S7 Edge and Nexus 6P do not have this issue whatsoever therefore I'm certain something with the firmware is not right.

No, I can't get it to flash, but I'm going to try another method for updating it to that version
Mine has been extremely inconsistent in sticking to LTE. Sometimes I have to force it to LTE only and then when I switch back to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto, it ****s the bed for a few minutes before correcting itself.

Did you try downloading the ruu.exe on the computer and then running it as administrator also make sure you have either changed your cid to the US unlocked one or to supercid I used the exe version of the ruu it went fine on my end I hope you get your situation worked out
I don't know your phone model, but since you are in the US. I would suggest you run US unlocked RUU for eliminating any software issues.
If you have an unlocked device, then you can simply download from @Behold's thread about us unlocked RUU.
If you have a T-mobile device, I would suggest you to get s-off and then run RUU.
Send back your modified phone is likely the least preferred option to do/recommend.

Yep, following the instructions to the t (so to speak), it ran fine, booted into whatever that weird screen is with the % on it then after about 15 seconds gave me the error
I just gave the extSD method again, now it is saying

I did not boot into download mode. Left it on the home screen, Just made sure USB debugging was on. The RUU handled everything after that.
Quick update:
I changed my CID to 111111 and it flashed via the RUU .exe file (surprisingly). I still cannot get LTE other than a ran moment where it might connect for a second before dropping back to H+. I even made a new APN (copied from my S7 Edge) and it still won't get LTE. Could this be some bizarre sim issue despite it working on every other phone I own (4 other phones work fine with LTE and my sim)?

I have another sim, and I've reinserted it s few times now without success. I might call them and activate the other sim. It's just odd how it works flawlessly with LTE on every phone but this one.
I just bought a factory unlocked htc one m9 and plugged the sim card in.
After cache partition wipes, two hour-long customer support calls, a factory reset, and a bottle of Tylenol, nothing happened.
(Okay, I'm joking about the Tylenol.)
The big issues are that the only mobile network operator detected in settings is AT&T, and that I can not change any APN settings (though they are T-mobile anyway, so that shouldn't matter.)
The T-mobile rep and I both checked, and the phone IS compatible with the t-mobile data bands in my area, so there is no physical reason that it shouldn't work.
Any help with this would be massively appreciated!

Now that you've restarted, try going into the network settings and manually choosing T-Mobile.
(Settings, Mobile Data, Network operators, search for networks)
It doesn't find anything other than AT&T.
I'm guessing that choosing the automatic option dues any good.
My next move would be to redo the setup process.... probably by resetting the phone. I'm off to Google the issue and see if anything comes up.
[EDIT] Before you do that, double check that your network mode is set to GSM/WCDMA/LTE auto. Anything else will (artificially) limit you to 2G or 3G [/EDIT]
[EDIT #2] T-Mobile has the APN information for manual input. It may be worth trying to create a new APN profile to see if that makes a difference [/EDIT]
I tried both of those. Now I'm having issues even just connecting it to my computer over USB. (HTC site says there's a software update that I think might help, but the phone isnt detecting it)

Ah. Probably worth applying the latest RUU. The executable is here - best to install it with your phone connected to your computer in download mode. Alternatively, you can use the SD card method, though you'll have to search around for the Android 7 Rui zip file.

I think I'm going to have to use the SD card method - the m9 keeps disconnecting randomly over usb and if that happens during the install.... I'd really like to not brick the phone.
I've been looking around all over google and can't seem to find a .zip for the update, I found one in a thread on here (still can't link things yet, under ten posts) but the download site said file not found.
In addition, do I need to use S-Off before trying the update? In some of the forums that was mentioned but I think it was for a different version of the phone. HTC has the update files and doesn't say anything about it, but it also doesn't say anything about updating over SD card.

For anyone else having this type of issue - even though they're all unlocked, some versions of the htc one m9 (potentially other phones by HTC as well) are produced in different regions. The Taiwanese version does not have band 12, and others potentially lack other bands.

Oh dear. I assumed that you were referring to the unlocked version sold directly from HTC, as opposed to a branded M9 (produced for a specific carrier & region) that had subsequently sim-unlocked.

Nope! I'm trying to unlock the lte bands before using S-off (just because it doesn't seem like anyone's tried it yet.) I'll post results as soon as I finish trying, but it's slow-going.
OK, I install the RR Nougat 7.1.1 android version on my htc one m8. I have been using it for a while now without issues,
but just yesterday, my phone had low battery and it turn off.
After restarting the phone, could not connect it to my home country network.
I can't access the carrier settings menu as the 'com.android.phone has stopped' pops up.
I have most tuts on the forum but not much help. Even factory reset does not work.
After factory reset, Sprint apns settings are on the apn setup menu but after i delete them, still can't connect to my home country network carrier.
Please some help here guys.

Then this has nothing to do with APN, since voice service does not rely on APN (APN only applies to data cell service).
A few folks have had this issue of "no SIM" and no service after letting the battery die on the Sprint version M8. But I'm not sure what the solutions is. You may search around, as I know the issue has been posted a couple times recently. I suggested the Sprint RUU for one user. But it inexplicably caused the device to brick.

If s-off, try a lower level (such as kitkat 4.4.2 or 4.4.3) Sprint RUU and see if that helps.
You can only try this with s-off. If s-on, you can't "downgrade" (run older RUU then version presently on the phone) by RUU as it will fail the version check.
Also, don't flash any other carrier version RUU (only Sprint) as doing so with s-off may lead to permanent damage on a Sprint device due to incompatibility (even on a properly working Sprint M8).

The main issue, is that you bought the wrong version for your location. It's my strong opinion, that the Sprint version should never be bought by anyone except those using the US Sprint network. It's intended primarily for the Sprint CDMA network.

Yeah, your probably right, but I learnt that by flashing a new radio (radio frequency in HTC phones directly installs the network carrrier base band) can solve it but can't get the right radio image. Though am not a 100% sure but have tried some radio images but still no result.

If you are talking about radio images from other (non-Sprint) versions of the M8; radio from any other version is not compatible, meaning it won't work with the Sprint version, and can possibly lead to a permanent radio brick. This is for the same reason as I previously cautioned you not to run RUUs for another version M8.
If you are talking about flashing different radios specifically intended for the Sprint M8, that isn't any different from trying the various Sprint M8 RUUs (which install different radio image along with every other partition).
Hi all,
Been troubleshooting slow WiFi on my G6 play compared to PC and I found that it only appears to support 2.4GHz frequency.
It's a UK model XT1922-2.
Have seen a few posts saying that the chipset should be capable of 5GHz and by rooting and changing some setting it may be possible to enable.
I've been OK on stock firmware so far, I didn't want to root as I thought that gpay and bank apps would stop working, although it appears that's no longer the case.
Before I start I just wanted to ask:
Has anyone with this model got 5GHz WiFi working, if so which ROM are you using?
Which ROMs are recommended? I prefer the closest to vanilla and good battery life.
Can some custom ROM users confirm that gpay and banking apps (Monzo, HSBC) can be made to work through magisk?
Thanks!
To check for 5ghz support, navigate to /vendor/etc/wifi and open WCNSS_qcom_cfg.ini with a text editor. (You need root for this.) Find the line that says;
#Preferred band (both or 2.4 only or 5 only)
BandCapability=0
Change BandCapability=0 to BandCapability=2, then toggle WiFi off/on. This will force you to only scan for, and connect to 5ghz networks.
Reference
BandCapability=0 (Both 2.4 & 5ghz.)
BandCapability=1 (2.4ghz only.)
BandCapability=2 (5ghz only.)
Thanks Spaceminer.
After a few issues I have now rooted and changed that setting from 0 to 2, I still only get 2.4GHz connection so I guess that means my device does not support 5GHz?

Yep, unless they also have a flag in the build.prop that's forcing 2.4ghz. Can you send me your build.prop? I don't mind taking a look.
It's also possible that your firmware just doesn't have the drivers for it. If you want to check if it's a driver issue, you could try flashing the firmware for RETUS. If you do try that, skip the bootloader, gpt.bin, and NON-HLOS.bin. Worst case scenario, it'll just loop, or send you back to fastboot. I can flash any G6 Play firmware to my Virgin branded variant and it'll boot up, so the same is probably true for you too.

I am now running a GSI rom (lineage) can I just flash the /vendor and not the /system from the RETUS, will it work?

@Spaceminer, my build.prop is attached. Couldn't see anything obvious in there but I'm not an expert
I did try flashing the RETUS but did not see 5GHz networks. It gave me some odd screen rotation behaviour so I went back.
