So today with some testers i managed to make root on OnePlus 8 Pro, I want to specify that 95% of the work was done by @topjohnwu (Magisk creator).
I will explain 2 different guides:
First Root Guide:
This guide is for a specific rom version, so you will need to use a specific patched boot.img
- Download the patched_boot.img
- Reboot your device in bootloader-fastboot mode
- Flash the patched_boot.img in the boot partition:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
replace "boot.img" with the patched_boot.img path
- Reboot the device
- Install Magisk Manager
Second Root Guide:
This guide is more generic than the first one, you should use this one if you are unable to find a specific patched boot.img
- Download a patched_boot.img (you should try with the latest one)
- Reboot your device in bootloader-fastboot mode
- Boot the patched_boot.img:
Code:
fastboot boot boot.img
replace "boot.img" with the patched_boot.img path
- Reboot the device
- Install Magisk Manager
- Click on Install, then direct install and wait the end of the process
- Reboot the device
TIPS:
You can get the stock boot images from the fastboot rom: Fastboot ROMs
HOW TO UPDATE a ROM and KEEP ROOT:
Before all Disable all magisk modules
Be sure to use the latest stable Magisk
You can update a stock rom from phone settings with local upgrade:
- Update the Rom WITHOUT REBOOT;
- Open Magisk Manager;
- In Magisk Manager, click on Install/Install/Direct Install;
- Again in Magisk Manager, click on Install/Install/Inactive Slot;
- Reboot.

Wow, that was fast, thanks a lot guys
Before flashing the patched_boot.img you need to unlock the bootloader.
Tick the "Advanced reboot" under Developer options
Then reboot your device in bootloader-fastboot mode
fastboot oem unlock
Many thanks for the quick Root my Device

Do you know if it passes SafteyNet with Magisk Hide enabled? Assuming not since Google now uses hardware signatures vs spoofable software ones.
Awesome, I had a bit of a struggle trying to find the full stock ROM link, thanks.
I have a follow up question: what are the features needed from Magisk and Magisk Manager that require the Canary release? I can't find anything in their changelog and my curiosity is getting the best of me

Hi.
Probably many of you already saw the new bootloader (the initial screen on boot) on our devices after OxygenOS BETA 10 and most probably many of you miss the old one where you can easily boot to recovery/fastboot with the volume keys?
Well, I missed it too so I've created a simple Aroma flashable zip with both of them
So, what is this?:
This is a simple aroma flashable zip which contains both the old and the new bootloader of Oneplus 5.
How can I use it?:
Simply flash the zip in TWRP and check which bootloader version you want to be flashed.
Can I revert this?:
Yes. Flash the "NEW" bootloader using the zip or simply flash OOS BETA 10/11.
THIS IS ONLY FOR ONEPLUS 5, DO NOT TRY TO FLASH THIS ON 5T OR ANY OTHER PHONE!!!!!
Changelog:
V.1.2 - Bootloader images update (thx to @shadowstep )
V.1.1 - Aroma script changes (from checkbox to selectbox... + some other small string changes)
V1.0 - Initial
Download v.1.2:

Download v.1.1:

Of course the zip was tested on my phone and it works fine, so have fun!

Edit: Okay. Thank you Sian. ? You're a blessing to the community. ?
Nice one!
Thanks for this. I already made flashable zips for this and they're up in my OnePlus 5 folder in MediaFire (link in signature) but they're normal TWRP flashable zips. Having an aroma installer is definitely better though, one zip than two. So thanks again! Hope you're enjoying your vacation mate!
Good job.

Open source cnp when? New bootloader was causing me panic attacks similar to snowphobia. Hope it solves my attacks
I've uploaded v.1.1. Checkbox was not the best idea when you want to flash just one of the options, so now it is a select box. Sorry about that
P.s. - You can't do a harm on your phone with v.1.0 if you check both options, it will just flash the old one then the new one (so you'll always end with the new one). Anyway, it looks better and it's properly made now

Can we just remove the bootloader warning screen? That really looks annoy to me.

You absolute f*cking god, thank you so much!
I will be posting my kernel builds here for convenience.
Pre-requisite
Unlocked bootloader with TWRP Recovery installed.
DRM fix must be in place before rebooting to avoid a soft brick.
This DRM patch which was available in sToRm//'s free Xperifix version still works
Features
- Stock based kernel with DT2W enabled.
- Forced encryption disabled.
- Passes Safetynet out of the box.
- Fully working camera (Pie kernel-no DRM fix needed for camera).
- Flashable zip with no need to extract boot.img
- Compatible with any version of Magisk.
Installation
Flash drmpatch.zip then kernel.zip.
You can then flash Magisk if you require it.
Camera doesn't depend on it though.
Flash zip in recovery (don't just extract boot.img as zip has system files to enable DT2W)
Kernel Sources
https://developer.sony.com/develop/open-devices/downloads/open-source-archives
Note. Kernel is compiled as per stock. DT2W is enabled in the DTB, the same parameters as used by the Loire platform.

Kernel itself is unmodified, and ramdisk changes don't touch wifi settings at all. Seems to be a hardware or software problem with Sony sd835 as per various complaints here https://talk.sonymobile.com/t5/Xperia-XZ1-Compact/Wifi-connection-problem/td-p/1315030
Adding to the confusion is that the issue is sporadic, intermittent and apparently device specific. Some users suffer badly, whereas others have no problems.
At any rate, there is nothing I can do about it.

You could try this one. It is from M-ROM v1.5, a Chinese rom.

Kang kernel
By Sjll
Notice: Beware of bricking device!
This a new kernel for stock 10. It's aim to optimize the kernel and provide better user experience.
I had cherry-picked some commits from other SDM845 devices like M i8 and Oneplus 6T. So it's a fusion kernel, though I don't know whether these commits could improve our performance.
I share the source codes, so you could tweak the kernel by yourself. Ok, don't forget to share your work with us.

Note:
1. For XZ2, boot.img already included Magisk.

Completely incompatible with the SODP project

This is one of the best roms which I have used. Blazing fast and feature rich. The customisation options available is by far the most in this rom. Even from the crdroid perspective. Thanks for this wonderful rom.

Fair enough. That's just what the LineageOS guide says. So that's just the way I do it.

Yeah it's very strange the way that the LineageOS guide breaks things down but I suppose having one way for everyone to do things cuts down on human error along the way. I imagine a lot of us have been flashing boot first though simply because that's alphabetical order and it's both natural for our brains to work that way as well as it's also the default directory order listing for those who drag and drop.

Maybe, but I always have issues doing it out of order.

There wouldn't be enough space to install another Google Applications package. I just recommend downloading and installing the Google Applications you need from the Google Play Store.

Hi folks
Since some of you asked me to make another thread for my TWRP build, here you go, the kernel is based on EWB5 (A13) but is compatible with all currenlty released Android versions.
WARNING/DISCLAIMER: Since the outer display isn't shut down this build can cause irreversible screen burns if used extensively. As such I take no responsabilities if you damage your device while using my TWRP build (and/or) other projects that may suffer from the same issues.
Edit: after some time the "screen burn" disappeared, so it seems that it's just a remanent image. In doubt stick to the warning.

So just push it as the recovery to the active slot via adb?
Breaks dex? If Not its kompatible with latest one ui?
It doesn't break dex, you can backup your recovery partition, it should be compatible with latest Android, since recovery is contained

is it compatible with SM-926B?
q2q is SM-926B?
google didnt know anything about "q2q samsung"
Can you try, If not working, only re install the recovery stock and vbmeta too
The other thread cites CVCA as a basis, but all I can find in the TWRP revision q2q-5337227142 in each. Is there an older build out that works better w/ BL 1, not 3?
