Yes! MIUI restores his own recovery so you will need to flash it again.

I think not..
If you are installing from OrangeFox your recovery will detect MIUI OTA(check OrangeFox settings) and it'll patch it to survive update or flash.. but if you use fastboot metod than yes you'll lose custom recovery. Don't wipe recovery partition
Be smart and before you gonna wipe, MAKE BACKUP ON SD CARD !!!! Including OrangeFox recovery zip. Always have a backup of recovery zip on sd card.
And to be sure after you finished flashing MIUI just don't reboot and go reflash OrangeFox from sd card
And it will auto reboot on Orangefox ... than you are ready to boot your new MIUI with OrangeFox recovery.
Good luck.

All good to go and OFR will auto run magisk I think... all will be fine...I've done it many times.. nothing to worry about. Just flash it as you described.
That way you can flash any ROM (MIUI, LOS, PIXEL EX,...ETC ). Its called clean flash method.
And check rm -f instead of formatting in OrangeFox options and you'll keep the encryption/decryption.
Good luck..

You are wrong.. You can override with stock recovery, you just need to tune up the settings, but yeah out of the box settings won't let you. Just for info that is possible.

In OrangeFox Setting
Checked Agrresive stock recovery deactivation

I flashed Magisk at that time without keeping the dm-verity and the OrangeFox was saved. Now I have went back to TWRP. I don't like the theme of OrangeFox. I know there is a script called "install-recovery.sh". I didn't modified it and just disabled the dm-verity and the custom recovery could be saved without being replacing.

Yuki1001 said:
The recovery will auto restore to Mi-Recovery because of DM-Verity. The only way to disable recovery-auto-restoring is disabling DM-Verity. If the DM-Verity is on, any custom recovery will be replaced with Mi-Recovery. Install Magisk or Universal DM-Verity And ForceEncrypt Disabler could prevent the system from replacing the custom recovery.

Follow this exactly. This works for me, but right now Im not using stock rom.
Requirements:
Latest version of twrp 3.0.2-1;
If you can't flash the rom switch to twrp version 3.0.2
A backup of files
1. Download latest MIUI Rom for Redmi 1s
(You can get it on google)
2. Put Rom into your sd card
3. Reboot to recovery
4. Wipe>Advanced Wipe
- Dalvik cache
- cache
-system
-data
-internal storage (backup your files)
5. Swipe to wipe
6. Flash rom via Install>select storage > sd card > (find your rom)
7. Either flashing will be successful or not
If not then error will appear, then wipe dalvik cache
8. Flash the rom again
-it should work (requirement applies)
Changing recoveries might help (dunno why)
Try switching to philz touch
Then clean flash rom

Flash twrp via fastboot.
Boot to twrp via
Fastboot boot twrp.img
Replace "twrp" with the file name of your twrp.
Once twrp booted, go into reboot menu. And reboot to recovery again. That will make your phone boot again into twrp, but this time with more rights.
Go into wipe. Advanced wipe
Change data partition file system to ext4.
Reboot again into twrp via the reboot menu ,just like before.
Now go into wipe again, and format system, data, dalvik and cache.
Flash your rom.
Flash gapps (if not otherwise stated by ROM thread)
Flash Magisk (optional, if you want root)
Wipe dalvik and cache.
Reboot. And enjoy

We only have one bootloader.
We have different firmwares though like nougat and marshmallow.
You will need Firmwares S244 for nougat ROMs.
That firmware must be flashed through ota. Stockrom-feature. Simply using twrp does not count as doing otas.
Basic starter things: Have Firmware S244 or S251 installed through stock ota feature.
Then use my earlier stated instructions.
Thx alot it worked & no problems

How to update to miui 10 ?

So I'm on miui 9 (9.6.4) rooted with redwolf recovery(note 5 pro).
Can someone please explain to me how do i upgrade to miui 10 since i cannot update through normal OTA .
Also is it worth upgrading to miui 10?
Thanks in advance!
miui10.0.4 is out, its similar to miui9.6.x with few interface differences! still on 8.1 Oreo
since you are rooted.
1. download the recovery version of the ROM from http://bigota.d.miui.com/V10.0.4.0....roGlobal_V10.0.4.0.OEIMIFH_9aa5f799fe_8.1.zip
2. put it on sdcard or usb otg drive
3. simply flash it
4. if you wana do clean flash, you have to re format your data partition
5. once miui 10.0.0.4 is flashed, reboot it, let the first boot done! , once rebooted, come back to recovery again and try to flash magisk or any other kernel...
I magisked my device before rebooting on miui10.x and it went on bootloops! later i had to change my /data parition to-from xfat/ext4 and wipe etc then finally i was able come out from bootloops!
and ofcourse! ALWAYS MAKE BACKUP !! (HIGHLY RECOMMENDED)

the best way is.. to use fastboot rom.. latest 10.0.4 use miflash this will make rom all stock recovery ect.. so if you want to use twrp again and root you must install twrp again since fastboot restores stock recovery.. just make sure in miflash at bottom dont select clean and lock.. or itll lock bootloader..select clean all.

I presume you are on OOS. Download and flash full zip of OOS (not OTA), flash TWRP (latest) and flash Magisk in that order. Reboot after all flash is complete.
To be on the safer side, wipe system, data (excluding storage), Dalvic and cache and reboot into recovery before flashing OOS.

Hi its quiet easy.
U have TWRP recivery.
So first download OOS full zip. Yhe link you can find in oneplus website or forum.
Then download latest magisk from official site .( It is universal ,it is not device specific. )
Back up your data.
Go to recovery ,do a nandroid backup( optional but recommended)
Then wipe cache, dalvic, system, data( all data gone)
Dont format sd card. ( Files in internal memory preserved, but still better to back up)
Then install the OOS zip
After that install magisk zip
Reboot to recovery( to preserve the TWRP,some times it gets changed to stock)
Reboot system.
Check for magisk manager
If not download from magisk forum. Check root.
you are done.
This is all According to my knowledge. Please feel free to correct me.
Usefull links ( i hope i can share links no issue in that !??)

[RECOVERY] LineageOS 17.1 recovery [curtana][2020/05/05]

Introduction
This is a LineageOS Recovery compiled from the source tree of LineageOS 17.1 for Redmi Note 9S / 9 Pro.[/STRIKE] While the recovery has been usable for quite some time now, since it is not possible for TWRP to support any device launched with Android 10 for now.
I am aware that there is a TWRP port for this device, but since the source code is not accessible (as for as I can tell, maybe I just did not look hard enough for the source code), I can only advice against using it. The official TWRP open-sourced under GPLv3 does not even support devices launched with Android 10 yet, so there's clearly something going on here. I do not fix compatibility issues between my ROM and that TWRP port.
Instructions (Installing Recovery)
1. Download recovery-XXXX.zip (extract to get recovery.img and vbmeta.img)
2. Reboot to bootloader (`adb reboot bootloader`)
3. Run `fastboot --disable-verification --disable-verity flash vbmeta vbmeta.img`
4. Run `fastboot flash recovery recovery.img`
5. Run `fastboot reboot recovery` to enter LineageOS Recovery
Instructions (Installing Magisk)
You have to use the official Magisk, version 20.4 or later. Installing an older Magisk will make the system unbootable.
1. Download Magisk >= 20.4, put onto computer
2. Reboot to LineageOS recovery, select `Mount /system` (you may see some errors, but they can be safely ignored)
3. Select `Apply update from ADB`
4. Run `adb sideload Magisk-xxx.zip`
5. You will see a signature verification error, select `Yes` to bypass the check
6. Reboot to system to enjoy your Magisk installation.
Caveats
1. Since it's not TWRP, you cannot decrypt your /data in recovery for now, which means no data backup or recovery, and you cannot install on-device flashable zips through this recovery.
2. Since it's not TWRP, it cannot prevent your OS from overwriting recovery automatically. If you use official ROM, you may need to manually re-flash the recovery every time. I'm not sure whether this can be bypassed with some Magisk module.
3. Don't expect to be able to flash anything into /system (e.g. OpenGAPPS or magisk) on stock ROMs
4. When trying to install OpenGAPPS on custom roms, it will get stuck at the end of the flashing process. This does not affect the functionality of the installed system and gapps, and a force-reboot into system will work just fine.
5. You need to always click "Mount /system" before flashing any mods into the system (i.e. Magisk, OpenGapps, etc., ROMs themselves are not affected), otherwise they will fail to install. (Clicking the option does not actually mount /system; it just sets up necessary mappings from the super partition to each of the dynamic partitions so that the installation scripts will work)

I'm very very grateful, but what's the advantage over stock recovery if we can't flash zips inside the phone memory? Or if we can't take a data backup?
Just asking trying not to be rude

With LOS recovery you can adb sideload roms like EvolutionX
After reboot to recovery. It stuck at LOS recovery menu screen not response to Vol up/down button.
Then about 10 seconds phone reboot to normal stage.
When I reboot to recovery again it became stock recovery screen no LOS recovery.
