This was a setting within other Samsung phone camera apps, but it appears to have been removed from all S20 phones?
Now, for example, if I setup the camera to take a video at 0.5 and take my vid. Next time I come back it's sets to photo & I have to do it again. It's a real pita if I'm doing something active like skiing.
I'm I missing it or was it removed?
Anybody else annoyed by this? I use my camera constantly & I constantly have to open & set the method I want to use.
On my phone it remembers the last setting of the camera...but only the basics...if I take slow motion and I go home and open phone again it's still on the option for slow motion...Did pick up that if I close all, it reverts back to normal camera mode...One way around is to keep the camera in memory all the time

On mine I can use the camera to take a video, come back one minute later it's back on photo. Sometimes I'm even in photo and come back and it's on video it's so bizarre and not logical

Not sure if this is a common problem. I couldn't find anything on the interwebs indicating that others are having this issue frequently.
It seems like my Camera application will almost never allow me to see the pictures that I've taken. When I tap on the picture preview it just goes to a blank screen. If I hit slideshow, it momentarily tries to take me to the slideshow and then bounces me right back.
Sometimes after force closing it with the system monitor app a few times will eventually let me see previews.
It's pretty infuriating that it does this and I have no idea what would cause it. I'm thinking about buying Vignette, but in my opinion the stock camera should work.
Any ideas?
You know what I just noticed - it appears to be the gallery app and not the camera app. Anyone else have this problem with Gallery?
It is most likely a media scan issue with the gallery (sometimes my pictures take a long time to show up on their own as well).
You can either reboot the phone or use an app to rescan media. There are a bunch out there (search market for rescan or scan media). Or if you are running CM6, you can choose the function in the built-in Dev Tools app. Tasker also has this function built in if you wanted to set up something like forcing a rescan every time you exit the Camera app.
durring a call you can't take a picture or even open the camera app. anyone know how to fix this problem?

It is pretty annoying. I ran into this today when I was in a call and I wanted to access the notification bad... TW wouldn't let me. Then I tried to pull up the app drawer and it wouldn't let me. The phone dialer app seems to lock out all of the other functionality. It really stinks.
I know that on HTC Sense you can put the call in the background (still talking) and do other tasks like opening Google Maps, Camera, etc.
I've enjoyed how fast and battery efficient TW 4.0 is, but I just keep finding more and more things about it that really bother me. Then I find out that the screen drivers are a mess and that future support of the device might be questionable... my biggest hope was to get TW off and install Cyanogenmod or another great ROM. But now it is sounding like there won't be nearly as many ROMs and support available for the TMO SGS2 as compared to the other SGS2s due to these special gpu drivers. ugh.
I don't know about you, but I'm actually able to access the notification bar and everything. Although the camera would give me "Unable to access camera while on call"

Interesting. Hopefully it was just a glitch then. I'll give it another shot as soon as I get a chance. My phone did lock up and reboot itself about 15 minutes later, my first such occurrence on a SGS2 yet.
I tried what you mentioned here and here are my findings....
- During call i pressed the home key and it took me to the home screen.
- I was able to open the camera but got the same error "cannot use camera during call".
- I have installed FXcamera as well and was able to open it and take pic during call from it.
So i guess this behavior is of the stock camera app.
This is same as when your battery is below 15% you cannot use camera but i can use FXcamera even with 1% battery.
So, install any third party cam app for taking pic in call.
Note - I have another Samsung Galaxy S5830 phone running Android GB. This camera behavior is present there too. So this is not something related to T-Mobile GS2 specifically.

Same thing on the vibrant with the battery and while on a phone call.
Also if you open your camera app while listening to music it will pause or skip.
I think that's how stock is, no matter what. My G2 and G2x has this problem. Doesn't iPhone have advantage on this? just saying..

I have searched and cant find this previously mentioned.
When recording video every minute or so the camera is re-focusing which looks really crap when watching it back as its constantly going blurry then coming back into focus. (very visible on a large TV)- is there a way to stop it doing this? e.g. turn auto focus off? If not i will send it back and use my old N8 till something better comes along.
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

I've seen threads about performance issues when charging etc and I have them myself!
One thing that completely destroys me is the performance when trying to take a quick picture or use an app that uses the camera.
E.g. barcode scanners move the complete opposite direction
Snapchat is also practically unusable. When I open it, it completely s**ts itself every time and is unusual!
I guess my question is..... Do you think custom ROMs and recoveries will solve the issues?
Thanks

I definitely think we should see some optimizations in the next weeks. Snapchat would crap out on me and eventually cause the camera module to crash. It got to the point that the camera would turn black within Snapchat and even within the camera app itself. Only fix was to reboot the phone to get the camera working again. Yesterday I received a snapchat update, not sure if it was meant to address performance issues, but it now works more smoothly and doesn't crash as often. There is definitely room for improvement!
It's really doing my head in and glad I'm not on my own in seeing this!! I don't know anyone else with the 5x to compare so been searching online.
I timed it today, I rebooted the phone and left it 5 minutes without opening anything. I fired up the camera app and it took 124 seconds (just over 2min) until the app was ready to take a photo (the blue circle showing around the shutter button). Then tapping the button to take a photo took a further minute to take the actual photo. Then the phone was that sluggish it needed a reboot.
Not sure if it's the hardware, the os or the app but I've tried Open Camera too and that seems to be really really slow. And, as the OP says, Snapchat totally craps out as do other apps that use the camera.

I just tried the same test. The camera app opened and was ready to shoot (blue circle showing) in about 2 seconds. Double pressing the power button to open the camera app had the blue circle around the shutter button showing right away
Every now and then it does work perfectly. But more times than not there is a massive lag. Usually after the phone has been on for half a day, but like this morning sometimes when it's just turned on.
I've experienced the same issues mentioned by you guys, especially in the OP.
Snapchat has practically been completely unusable until the most recent update, and that only marginally improved things. The root cause seems to be the camera itself, as I'm only seeing this type of lag in apps that access the camera. I can't help but imagine Google is working on a fix for this in the very near future, just one of those 'early adopter' issues I guess. It has caused me to do daily reboots just about, which is very aggravating because that defeats the purpose of a good camera if you miss the moment you're trying to capture. As I'm sure you guys have noticed, when the camera app actually works properly, the pictures are pretty impressive, which makes it all the more aggravating that it can't be used as fluently as designed.
Hoping for all of our sake that Google fixes this soon.
I'm in the same boat.

could u please test camera functionality with this app

and if possible gather log info

Completely stock. Out of nowhere today, the camera app has started crashing. Pressing the shutter or vol buttons does nothing, and no pictures are taken. I rebooted the phone and took two pictures and camera force closed immediately. If things were working properly there would still be at least two seconds before pressing shutter and a picture being taken. This phone SUCKS, it's the most disappointing Android experience I've had.
This started happening to my phone as well. I force stopped it, then rebooted and it works for days again. I notice it usually happens if I go from Camera on taking photos to screen off. A closer look shows that if the app is doing something such as changing rotation from landscape to portrait when you screen off, it goes completely bonkers. It's as if the sensors are locked in an orphaned process and can't be accessed. This is proven by launching another app that uses the camera and it'll do the same thing. Black screen loading the app.
this is happening all the time now, especially when i take many pictures in a short duration. the camera will go all black and then a random app will open, seriously. the stock camera app does this.
Do you guys have any Layers themes on?
i do not

Welcome to the club. This phone is a total lemon. Just waiting for the latest udpate to check if it fixes this issue. Its close to 5+ months now and google hasn't still fixed the issue so far.
I think i am done with the nexus line with this phone........
i have had nexus 4, 5 and now 5x.., and 5X is the most horrible in terms of lag/slowness. My N5, which is still own and use is much faster with the same set of apps.. when using / launching apps side-by-side.

why are so few people acknowledging this? moreover, why are so few people livid about it? i am! i can't open the ****ing share menu from any app without 3 seconds of lag. it's bull****. the android experience i want is simple: 1) nexus line so i don't have to wait for updates and deal with bloat, 2) no lag because it's 2016 and 3) a phone that's not sized like a ****ing tablet. i don't understand why i have to use a surfboard to get the higher end hardware. it's bull****.
