Yes, The microUSB port at the bottom is used for both data connections and charging. Not only does it support USB host but it also comes with MHL enabling HDTV-out connectivity with the proper adapter.
MHL is a way of using both microUSB and HDMI through the same port. The downside is you need an adapter to use a regular HDMI cable with this one.

I've tried it several times in my car with my radio that has a usb and aux port. It will not play without the special dock attachment in the usb port but I have no way of knowing if a usb to aux cable would work because I do not have one to try.
I will be constructing and selling around 10 of these cables (Micro USB to audio out+charging). Please email me or PM me on [email protected] if interested.

I made one following the instructions on one of the threads, and although it is detected as a docking cable and the system claims to route the audio through it (the steering wheel logo appears in the status bar and I get a message "car audio dock detected"), it still plays through the internal speaker. I'm having the problem with Cyanogenmod 9 and now 10. I never tried with the stock ROM, I'm assuming it works...

Has anyone attached two USB devices?

I want to attach two usb devices to my Note.
One will be the MHL adapter and one will be the 2.4ghz wireless unit for a keyboard like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/250996855143.
I need a Micro USB male to 1x Micro USB female and 1x USB female adapter.
These for some strange reason don't exist
I was just wondering if anyone has done anything similar.
I know I could get a Bluetooth keyboard, but I don't have one. I do however have the above keyboard
Oh wow! I'm interested into this keyboard! Does Lenovo Mini Wireless keyboard work perfectly with the Note? All buttons are recognized and trackball mouse is usable?
Its really good, i use it on my Note and my Libretto W100. The mouse and keyboard work perfectly.

You cannot attach 2 or more devices to the same usb port. You need an usb hub for that, but I don't know if the MHL would work with the hub. I will try later today to attach an usb hub and connect more devices, and will report my findings.

Edit:
--------------------------------------------
I have successfully connected a self powered usb hub to the galaxy Note, and connected 2 thumb drives, a combo card reader, and a mouse. The Note mounted both of my thumb drives, as /usbstorage/sda and /usbstorage/sdb respectively. Then I inserted a mikroSD card into the card reader and the phone mounted it as sdc. I then inserted an sony memory stick into the card reader and it was mounted as sdd. All mounts were usable, and I could watch movies from them, and watch pictures, copy files from one to the other, etc... But, when I connected the mouse to the usb hub it didn't recognize it. Whatever combination I tried the Note would not recognize my mouse, when plugged into the usb hub. When plugged directly to the OTG cable it works perfectly, but won't work when connected to the hub (maybe cables are to long).
Using rooted stock xxla6 firmware.
Edit2:
---------------------------------------
Just found out, that usb otg and mhl cannot work simultaneously. When the MHL cable is plugged in, the GNote's microusb port will become an MHL port, and from that point it will not act as an usb host or usb slave. :-(
It's too bad, 'cause I really wanted to connect it to my full hd monitor and use a mouse and keyboard, too.

How about bluetooth mouse+keyboard instead ? That would keep your USB port free for MHL

That does work, and works a treat I might add.
Swyped from my finger, to your face on my Samsung Galaxy Note, using Tapatalk!
I like the idea of USB Hub

This is the setup I'm going to do also. But as with topic, it's also very tempting to have everything USB powered. Since it will decrease latency and maybe power consumption as well? (as opposed to bluetooth) Well, MHL to HDMI will still drain our battery even if we connect it to power source
You can also try NZtechfreak's workaround:

[Q] Need some help with connectivity issues

Hi I recently bought the Samsung Galaxy S3 MHL/HDMI Adapter so that I can mirror my Galaxy Note II to TV.
HTML:
http://www.clove.co.uk/samsung-galaxy-s3-mhlhdmi-adaptor
Basically what I'm trying to do is to be able to connect simultaneously this adapter with my external HDD 500Gb.
HTML:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Intenso-6021530-500GB-External-Drive/dp/B0056ZOLXQ/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1358358015&sr=8-1
That way I will be able to carry all my movies in the HDD and being able to play it through my mobile at TV.
Now when I connect the drive alone(non externally powered) to the mobile through USB OTG cable everything works fine.
That's the case when I connect the MHL adapter alone in the mobile. It works great.
My problem is when I try to connect BOTH the HDD and the adapter together. That way I can open my mobile navigate to my HDD and open the video file and play it at any given HDTV. But I can't find the right configuration to make it work. Now the first thing that comes into mind is a USB hub. I try to use this one I own with 3 slots I have but with no luck.
Code:
http://www.tomatoflash.com/products/product_detail.php?Cate=products&label=15&dSN=16&tSN=85&mSN=45#03
What I do is the following. I connect the HDD directly to the hub through usb. I use a usb to usb cable to power the hub. And on the third usb slot of the hub I power the MHL adapter. To the mobile goes the micro usb male cable of the MHL adapter.
Now what happens is that the MHL adapter as expected works fine, but the HDD, while it seems to power (green light on the HDD) cannot be recognized from the mobile.
I believe this happens for either 2 reasons.
First : There's no way the mobile can see the HDD through the hub this way (could an externally powered usb hub help I wonder??)
Second : I need to have a dual micro usb female to micro usb male cable (which doesn't exist??), so that I can directly connect both the HDD and the MHL adapter on the phone.
Below is a photo of the connectivity if it helps

So what do you think I'm doing wrong or what do you suggest in terms of connectivity?
Thanks in advance for your help and ask anything to clarify if I made things complicated
I'm sorry but I cannot post links because of my limited number of posts thus the "html"

Type-c earphones with no audio

Hi, I picked up a pair of type-c earphones from AliExpress for my Mi A1 which is running Pie with the March update. However, my phone doesn't detect them and no audio is sent to them either. Any ideas?
Not all TypeC speaker/earphone devices are the same. I also tried that with a friend's TypeC earphones and it didnt work. I attached a USB DAC Dragonfly Red via an OTG adapter (Type C Malr to Type A Female) and I got audio out from it.
It seems you'll need a type C headphones that has a built in USB DAC or use a USB DAC in-between like I did.
Some type C earphone are just wired to take advantage of the additional wires in USB3 TypeC and so the phones output the analog audoo through these additional lines. This also makes them incompatible with other brands too. Meanwhile, the A1 has a USB2 TypeC and so also only has the 4-5 lines of microUSB B.
Bottomline: use the 3.5mm audio out of the phone or use a USB DAC to output audio thru USB TypeC.

No audio via USB-C

Hello,
I'm running LineageOS 20 (lineage-20.0-20230611-nightly-FP4-signed) on my Fairphone 4, and I have no idea why I can't get any audio via USB-C.
Could someone help me figure out which settings I need to tweak to fix this issue?
I've tested 5 different USB-C solutions and none have worked:
USB-C to USB-C + 3.5mm splitter
USB-C charges fine, audio plays on device instead of via 3.5mm
Generic USB-C to HDMI adapter
Video plays fine, audio plays on device instead of TV or PC monitor speakers
Anker USB-C to HDMI adapter
Video plays fine, audio plays on device instead of TV or PC monitor speakers
USB-C to DisplayPort cable
Video plays fine, audio plays on device instead of PC monitor speakers
PC monitor with USB-C connection
Video plays fine, audio plays on device instead of PC monitor speakers
All of these cables and adapters work fine on my other devices, 3 of them are used daily, except the Generic USB-C to HDMI adapter which my laptop doesn't seem to like (but it works on the Fairphone!).
Thank you for your time.
