Mi 9 SE rear camera glass replacement - Xiaomi Mi 9 SE Questions & Answers

Hey Guys,
unfortunately the glass lens of the rear camera of my phone broke. There are local shops near me, who offer a replacement for about 70€, which is quite a lot in my personal opinion. So i ordered a replacement part from eBay, used a heat gun and changed the glass myself.
I immediately took some photos to check the quality, and to be honest, it seems to be really really bad. The images are blurry and the holes in the lense seem not be in the correct position, so parts of the photos are darker and it's pretty hard to even get a correct focus of the photo.
Do you have any recommendations for me where to get original or atleast high quality spare parts for our devices? I already checked aliexpress, but the reviews of the parts i found were not quite promising, so i decided to ask here first.

Anybody know where I can get this repaired or where I can buy the part?
I'm actually quite dissapointed with the strength of the lens it cracked in my pocket like seriously shame on you HTC.
Mine did the same thing. They replaced it under the uh oh protection but I'm pissed I had to use it 2 days into owning the device.
I refuse to use my uh oh protection on it, like it doesn't effect how my pictures come out just not appealing

I had the same problem here in the UK. The retailer did exchange it for me with no fuss we don't have the uh oh protection here

Any luck?
My M9 camera just cracked down around the middle as well :/ 2 days, no mishandling at all. Did anyone have any luck getting it fixed/replaced without using Uh-oh protection?
Sadly I haven't read anyone who's had any luck, people are just keeping it as is or getting it replaced with uh oh
Mine was replaced in store in the UK with no issues
This is disturbing. I work in construction and bang my phone on stuff while in my pocket. Thought the sapphire was an upgrade lol
Sapphire is extremely hard and resistant to scratching... But that also means it's brittle. While it's going to be extremely hard to scratch, it's going to be easier to crack.
Which is also another reason(aside from being expensive) they probably chose not to use it on the screen. (Apple as well)
so i got annoyed and just took the rest of the glass off i faced two issues, one due to the crack under certain lights i would get a glare, kinda like when you wet glass and see the rainbow colors, secondly dust got under the lens and i couldn't clean it out the pictures would look fuzzy, and lastly the cracked really F*&#!ed with the beauty of the phone....sigh so here it is, hopefully replacement parts start to pop up soon so i can put a new glass :fingers-crossed: (wheres the brickwall headbash smiley?)
I posted this in another thread but got no response. Has anyone without a case got cracked camera glass? Most seemed to have been in cases in the other thread. Maybe an issue with heat dissipation?
I don't get why they have to have such a large piece of glass with such a small lens?
We don't have Uh Oh in the UK and I don't insure so I'm really worried about this happening to mine.
ive got the same problem after 6 days no insurance and no uh oh protection, but after a bit of searching i found a replacement lens on ebay it seems too cheap to be sapphire glass but in my eyes id prefer something that wont just crack again http://www.ebay.ie/itm/New-Replacem...012?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19ffc4ec3c

This advert seems to be for an adhesive (for the lens cover ) not the lens cover .
This company often is a useful source of smartphone spares.
They don't appear to stock many items for M9 currently, maybe range will broaden in time.

If you read the comment from the seller it says " The Lens have the film on it, Please Remove"
so it is indeed the lens and adhesive. it's typical of items from China that the translation is not very accurate.
I have ordered a few lens/adhesive kits for the M8 and they all have worked just fine, I'm sure this one is no different
Cracked glass here, too
Thanks for the eBay link. My husband and I both purchased HTC ONE M9 phones two Fridays ago. His camera lens cover glass/crystal/whatever was cracked straight across horizontally BY ITSELF after we had owned our phones for FOUR DAYS.
HTC and T-Mobile kept passing us back and forth because it was less than 14 days. HTC wanted T-Mobile to fix it, T-Mobile wanted us to use our HTC Uh Oh protection.
In the end, we are being forced to use the Uh-Oh. I'll try that eBay item first, though!
Just notice today that mine is broken also. Don't really want to use my oh uh protection just for that
Did not find a link on the whole WWW
Hello people,
My M9 lens cover cracked also, and I do not think it is because of a hit, as I tend to take care of my stuff. But it did so now I have to replace it.
Bought tools and glass from ebay, all together about £10. You can find it even cheaper. I will replace it on my own as HTC are very stupid with their policy, £30 just for diagnostic (like I do not see the glass being cracked) + repair + parts. It is overly priced.
Does anybody have a link with how to replace this glass from the M9?
If not, do you have to take the back cover off to do this?
Thank you.
Regards.
I got cracked lens cover, I have removed it awaiting New cover from eBay however without lens cover on camera does not focus on distance objects only close up. Could this be ddie to no lens cover or is the camera broken
I replaced my lens from ebay. To remove it I used a hair straitener as a hotplate to loosen the adhesive around 180 deg F
I wore rubber gloves/ and pried the sapphire off of the camera with an exacto knife and or razor blade.
Double checked to make sure I had all of potential glass shards.
I proceeded to take off the back of the new lens and lined it up and from there I now have a perfectly non-cracked lens.
Problems I ran into this. I have had a piece of dust or sand on my camera lens since I cracked it(maybe beach sand?) and always have this unfocused 1mm 'gray' spot. If I had an air compressor I would have made sure to blast my lens with it hoping to remove that spot.
I live my life with a grey spot on ALL of my photos .
But aesthetically it is barely noticeable and my lens is not cracked. I plan to use my Ut Oh protection when I get close to my date.

Help - Where to buy rear camera bracket

Hello, i am one of the lucky ones who's camera cracked. Unfortunately i have been smart enough to throw away lens and bracket assuming they are sold together. Now i have spent a few days looking for it without any luck.
There are plenty places offering the glass lens but noone the bracket. Has anyone purchased it somewhere lately and has a link for me? Ideally in Australia but i guess i can't be to picky.
Just buy a spares device. Smashed screen or dented body. So long as the rear cam is intact you should be golden.
I wish I stole my HTC M9.

I may need to replace the camera on my Nexus 5X, any ideas/suggestions?

I bought a used Nexus 5X from Swappa that recently had the screen/digitizer replaced by the owner. Well, I got the phone last week and everything seemed to be working smoothly and properly, but, while looking closely at some of the pictures I took with the phone's camera, I noticed some blurry marks/spots visible on the images. At first, I figured that they were probably just on the outer lens, but it turns out that the blurry marks/spots are actually showing up on the photos taken with the phone after I've copied them over to my computer.
For the record, I did take the back cover off the phone and tried cleaning/wiping off the actual camera lens with a Q-Tip and a pointed Q-Tip, but it did not seem to help at all with removing the marks/spots. So, it looks like I may need to try to replace the main/rear-facing camera on my phone, if that is going to be realistic for me to do.
After doing somr searching, I found some links for buying the actual rear-facing camera module replacement part.
For $13.88 from DIY Mobile Repair https://www.diymobilerepair.com/lg-nexus-5x-rear-camera-replacement
And for $17.99 from Repairs Universe http://www.repairsuniverse.com/lg-n...JL6woQtVLGseJUQDWFHAWwAODwICsmVdbxhoC5Ffw_wcB
And here are some DIY instructions from ifixit.com for Nexus 5X Rear-Facing Camera Replacement https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Nexus+5X+Rear-Facing+Camera+Replacement/60276
Does anyone think this should realistically be as simple as it seems to be to replace the rear-facing camera? And is there any reason to think that either of these replacement cameras would result in photos with image quality that is not as good as the original camera's pictures? Or should these replacement parts be just as good as the OEM camera in the phone? I actually chatted with someone on the DIYMobileRepair.com site and was told that the camera module is exactly the same as the OEM camera module that comes in the phone, so I would think that the resulting photos would/should be just as good after replacing the camera module. However, I can't help but be concerned about this when buying the camera model from a third party seller. So, I'm hoping that someone on here has actually replaced the rear-facing camera module and can comment about this.
With that stated, has anyone on here actually replaced the rear-facing camera module for a Nexus 5X? And if so, where did you buy the replacement part? And how much did it cost you? If anyone has actually purchased a replacement camera, if you would post a link to the specific part you got, and describe how difficult it was to install on your Nexus 5X and your results, that would be very much appreciated.
Also, here are some pics taken with my Nexus 5X:
http://imgur.com/kJUmLsN If you look just above the above the LG logo, you can see the mark that looks like a partial "C" or the left half of a circle, and would seem to have possibly been left by a fingerprint, or, now that I think about, it looks like it is likely actually an imprint mark from the the camera's lens assembly. There's also a little round spot/mark to the right of that one, close to the edge of the right side of the back cover.
Here's another picture http://imgur.com/QgXikAy where the half-circle mark is just below and between the openings for the fingerprint reader and the camera lens.
And here's another one http://imgur.com/GxGYo0U where the half-circle mark is just below and to the right of the "n" in the nexus imprint, and there's also a small dot/spot up higher and to the right of the fingerprint reader opening, close to the right edge of the back cover.
And one last photo for this post http://imgur.com/q8jnvHO where the half-circle spot/mark is in the middle towards the bottom of the image, and where there's also a small dot/mark on very the bottom of the right side, just to the left of the blue border line.
And here are some photos where I highlighted the marks/spots/dots:
http://imgur.com/qmY9CWN
http://imgur.com/4wZzAXi
Also, if anyone has any suggestions about what else I might be able to do to try to clear/clean off the marks that appear to be on the inside of the camera lens, please do let me know.
Sorry for the lengthy post. And as always, much thanks in advance for any helpful replies that I may get!

Mine was broken as well, however, my whole phone was broken, so I had the back casing, back glass and camera lens, and screen all replaced.
What I can tell you is that the camera lens is a part of the back glass assembly. Ubreakifix can replace it. I think it's around $100. Note that this is the only part that they didn't have in stock for my repair (no store within 50 miles had the back glass, despite all of them having the metal casing and front screen), so your local store may need to put in an order.

For my 2XL, I was able to remove the glass shards and glue using a hairdryer, it seemed to be the same exact process as it is for other phones (I've done this with the Galaxy S6). Ubreakifix does fix it though, but a $100 is way too pricey for a simple glass replacement IMO.
I have a dbrand skin on my device, so I can't check if the entire back glass is broken or not. It doesn't sound or feel like it is broken though. I can't see why it would be broken since I have a case on my phone. From what you know, does the camera lens breaking mean that the entire glass is broken?!
Unfortunately I don't have a Ubreakitifix remotely near me. I'll continue to look for solutions though.

Broken lens definitely doesn't mean the back glass is broken. I took the glass out of mine and took great photos with the lensless camera until I had it fixed (my CC company paid the repair).
Not sure any options for repairing outside of Ubreakifix (or Google's other repair partner who I can't remember) or getting it done by sending it in to Google. Don't think parts are widely available online yet.

Yep parts aren't available online yet :/ But your comment gave me the idea to check up on my credit card and see if they'll pay for it since I've only had the phone for like a month. I'll be driving close to a Ubreakifix location soon anyways, so I think that's the best course of action. Hopefully this means I can keep my waterproofing on my phone which would be lost with a DIY repair.
Thanks for your help man!
Here was my experience. Good luck!

My Pixel 2 xl was in a case 100% of the time and my camera cover also shattered for no reason that I know of. It seems like they may have a problem with this. I do know around the time frame it shattered was when I was going from 70 degree room to -15 deg for a while snowblowing, then back in the house. There was nothing in my outer pocket that could of caused the shatter. I've seen too many other posts about the camera cover cracking by itself and not the entire glass back cover.
I don't know if it is or not, but the camera cover should be made out of the same glass on the front of the phone. Camera still works but it's loose inside after removing the small shards and sometimes I get jello like wave wobble while trying to focus. I'm going to wait and see if more people report this before I send it in to fix it which was quoted by ubreakifix local sioux falls store minimum of $130 and up to $220 if they can't reuse the LCD screen after taking it off. They said they have to remove the front screen to get to the back to replace the camera and cover.
I am having the same issue. I bought a supposedly really good cover for it through Spigen and the lens on the back camera somehow shattered (haven't dropped it and have no idea how it broke). The back glass isnt broken at all, just the lens glass. Surely this must be a google issue. I contacted Google and they gave me some phone number and I rang and left a message days ago and was a weird answering machine and no one has called me back. Prettty dissapointed with the Google Pixel 2xl and wishing I had of got another Samsung. (I am in Australia)
pixel shatterred lens
Same thing.
My pixel 2 is in perfect condition inside a case.
The lens section of the back is broken... I can still luckily use it perfectly AFTER 2-3 months? There were extreme temperatures though so.
I just chatted with google and they told me to get it replaced with their repair dealers......
I got mad after that.
REALLY? HELL NO.
I need to file a claim with my CC soon about this too since google will do nothing.
I looked online all these phones using badly manufactured glasses.
look up wiki Spontaneous_glass_breakage
The repair cost would be about 10 dollars if I do it myself when the parts come out.
This is not limited to google, but samsung, lg, etc all of them.
Google and android manufactures wants me to pay 70-80 dollars to repair it with their authorized repair shop....
When it was their neglect NOT MINE.
NO damage in any other section of the pixel 2 phone. This is beyond ridiculous
I'm really disappointed.
My camera lens broke this week as well. Always keep the phone in a case and have not had any drops. At least on mine it's not large - its just the faintest hairline crack that runs halfway across the lens. Not at all like the break pattern I would expect to see if something hit it.
Luckily I have Fi device protection on this phone, but even with that I will have to temporarily shoulder the cost of the replacement device until they receive my current phone. So... just gonna live with it for the time being until next payday rolls around. :/
Hey! I'm a journalist and had the same thing happen to my phone. Would you be interested in talking? This seems to be a really common problem and Google says no one has told them about it.
Protection
I also had mine break within the first week that I got it--- I NEVER dropped it. Google nor Verizon would do anything. Just paid $200 for a replacement device but I do not want to start it up without having a way to protect this delicate glass. What can I do to protect this? Called Google to ask about protecting it and all they recommend is buying the Google case, WHICH I ALREADY HAD. Thinking about buying a liquid screen protector and applying that to the lens, thoughts on this?
I have a Google pixel XL 2 from Verizon. Have total mobile protection through asurion. I use my camera frequently never had issues. Ironically on my daughters birthday the other day I went to take pictures of her opening gifts and noticed a line. Turn phone around. Low and behold my camera glass lens is broke. I removed Glass and tried to continue to take pictures and as another poster stated the lens was loose and didn't properly focus so pictures weren't at sharp. I called asurion to file claim they said they would send a replacement as soon as tomorrow for a $200 deductable. I explained it was only glass covering back camera lens didn't seem to deem a $200 deductable it's not a broken screen. They said they didn't offer repair only replacement hence the high deductible. My lens broke from what I don't know. No blemishes on phone. Never dropped it. Had a Spigen rough armor from day one that has bumper around camera. And don't put it in any compromising position. Upon research and wide spread accounts of spontaneous broken back lens with no idea how it happened I felt maybe Google would fix it for free. Contacted customer service and was told to contact ubreakifix which I did there's one not to far from me. They said it would be $110 to replace back camera. Not as much as insurance deductible but still pricey for what I believe to be a hardware defect of LG/Google themselves as opposed to the fault of owner.
Search "replacement glass pixel 2 xl"
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGcNccfpacE
I seen that but it doesn't seem to offer just glass covering camera on the part supplier links he provides just the back glass panel and the entire camera itself. I don't think the camera is damaged just the glass and it was only glued in. I found one dirt cheap but it claimed to only fit only. the smaller pixel 2 and not the XL variant which I thought they had the same camera?

How to fix my rear camera lens

I just tried taking a picture and the screen was all cloudy. Then looked and saw that the lens was cracked.
Any ideas?
Thanks
I have my doubts about buying things off of eBay, BUT that said replacement glass (if the sensor is all fine and good) is only $2.50 so it's worth a shot.
All you should really need is a heat gun to remove the existing glass, but I've never done anything like this before.
