Smart Lock not working with location - Samsung Galaxy S20 / S20+ / S20 Ultra Questions &

I have a S20 ultra ATT, and I setup Smart Lock to unlock the phone when I am at my house. 95% of the time, it does not work, I have to use my fingerprint instead. I have edited the address multiple times using Google maps and the location is accurate, but I can't get it to unlock most of the times.
Not sure if this is related to the GPS issues people have been experiencing with their S20

I'm having the same issue. No one chiming in, though I can't imagine it's just the two of us.

I guess not a lot of people use this feature.
I started using it since I was tired of putting my finger on the screen everything I want to unlock the phone when I am at home and using it a lot

I got this issue on S8, S9+ and S10+. Since then I use Bixby Routines to do such things and this is working fine.

S8 s10+ and s20 ultra all fail to work properly with the smart Lock location setting. It hasn't gotten any better, just like the fingerprint scanner.

I use bixby routine, when you choose location you can widen the circle

Maybe the GPS goes to sleep when the phone is locked?
This is what separates apple from the rest
I can't believe they put out a feature out there knowing it is not working.

What's weird is that on my phone during the lock screen, it says phone unlocked by smart lock. When I swipe it takes me to the fingerprint lol

I actually figured out. You have to swipe up from the very very bottom of the phone if it says phone unlocked by smart lock.. Kinda taking that verbiage and dragging it up. Also I set my location in Google as coordinates not the actual address. I dropped the pin close to my actual location and set that as my home.

fingerprint not detecting sometimes

OP3 finger print is really fast but sometimes I just can't it to get it work, once it doesn't work it'll not work at all and then I have to unlock using Pattern
Does anyone have this issue?
I found that if on lockscreen there is a lock symbol it won't open by fingerprint. If there is a fingerprint symbol then it works
Not to worry!! While you are registering a finger..... u have to completely register each corner of the finger print.....only then it works from however u put ur finger on it!! I experienced it many times too!!!
Just registry 1 finger 2 times...thats all
But it works always except when there's a lock icon on lock screen.
If there's a fingerprint scanner symbol it works 100%
it wont work with wet finger, wipe your hand
When you register a finger, you have to put all kinds of different parts of the fingertip on different parts of the fingerprint scanner, so that the scanner "knows" your finger in all possible positions. That is what the lenghty procedure is for.
Yeah I've done all kinds of way, rolled it, left, right, top, down.
Does anyone know why there's a lock symbol sometimes on lock screen instead of fingerprint symbol

Fingerprint Problem May Be?
Hi,
Sometimes my fingerprint is not recognized by fingerprint scanner. I have registered two fingerprints for the same finger. Still sometimes it does not recognize.
Is it because still some area is left which is not recognized? When it is not recognized and i put my center of finger on scanner, it recognizes.
Is it fine? Also is it fine if it doesn't recognizes if only a part of sensor is touched by finger. I am using fingerprint sensor first time so little bit skeptical.
I think i am testing it too much just to confirm if it is fine and somehow able to make it fail at some area of my finger. :silly:
Please help.
Please help me guys.

It requires pin after a reboot, then you should be able to use the fingerprint reader until the next reboot.

Its because of security or you can use require pin on boot and it will take bit long for booting
But what about the lock symbol and finger print symbol on the lockscreen, has no one observed this yet?

Been using OP3 FP scanner from last one week. I have 4 Fingers registered it works without any problem. Clean you FPS
I've been having an issue where I would take the phone out of my pocket and the fingerprint scanner wouldn't even vibrate when I touched it. After trying several settings I started putting my phone in my pocket with the screen facing out instead of towards my leg. I think the fingerprint scanner would get activated while rubbing up against my thigh. So far I can tell it's working fine. Everytime I take it out of my pocket it recognizes my finger right away. Also I noticed less battery drain.

I saw it. Often when i unlock using fingerprint the phone gets locked automatically 1 second after unlocking, than the symbol is a lock and i have to use the pattern. Then there is a text something like "For improvement of safety, a pattern is required" really annoying

Is the Fingerprint Scanner perminantly ON?

Hi Guys,
I'm thinking about buying this phone for a friend and need to understand how the fingerprint scanner works.
On my One Plus 3, the scanner is ON all the time which makes it awesome, (but probably eats battery.) :victory:
On my Galaxy Tab S2, you have to press the scanner to turn it on first, which makes the whole process much worse.
Is the scanner on the P2 always ON, (like the One Plus 3,) or does it require a press to wake it up? (like on Samsung devices.)
Thanks in advance. :highfive:
The scanner is always on.. you don't need to wake the phone to use it.. the battery drain is minimal

Thanks Uibon. :highfive:
Is it a physical button? i.e. presses in, or is it just purely capacitive?
My Samsung also has an issue where if you lock the screen using an app, (Power Toggles,) you can't unlock the phone with your fingerprint. Any idea if the P2 suffers the same issue?
It's both. The fingerprint sensor is capacitive and works by just placing one's finger on it. There are also many gestures that work on the capacitive sensor like tap to go back long press to view recent apps. The button is also physical pressing it brings you to home screen and long press brings up Google assistant

Ok Uibon,
So to unlock the phone, do you just place your finger on the sensor (without pressing it down,) or do you have to press it down as well? I ask this as on my Tab S2, having to press down also results in many incorrect reads.
Its a pity Lenovo didn't put a lock screen gesture in the fingerprint scanner like One Plus. It by far the best system I've ever used.
It works like the fingerprint on the OnePlus.. just place the finger to make it work no pressing the button necessary.

Just tried screen lock widget and it requires pin to unlock after using it. Finger does not work.
I am using nova prime and double tap to sleep and i can wake from finger print sensor iff you use timeout lockscreen method which means after you double tap the screen to lock the it screen goes black instantlly but the actual full screen lock engages after 30sec allowing the phone to screen to be locked through its own system hence the fingerprint wake works normal. I am not aware of other launchers that have this but nova prime has it.

That's an Android security limitation and all phones do that I believe. I think some apps can "trick" the phone by turning the screen off and let the timeout do the locking but I'm not sure.
If you have root access then they'll work. Else they won't. It's a security feature and uses device admin rights to lock the phone. Which means the device admin should unlock it by the most secure way. That's pin password or pattern.
It's not device specific and hence it's nothing to blame Lenovo

You are correct dannejanne. Some OEM's have realised how stupid it is and have sorted it out.
On the One Plus 3, you can securely unlock the phone and relock all with one finger while your phone is on your desk. You can do this better and faster than any other phone. As it's something you do so many times a day, it's time for the other OEM's to blatantly copy this.

SAMSUNG A50 Automatically Unlocks Problem.

From few days. My A50 is getting automatically unlocks in my pocket. Is anyone is facing the same issue ??
Please specify more details. What do you mean by automatically unlocks? You get an alert or something? Does it unlock and launch apps on it's own when you place it in your pocket? Which biometric methods are turned on and is Google smart lock on?
Sometimes a random app opens when i check my phone. Currently i am using fingerprint unlock method for my device.
To prevent that, turn on Accidental Touch option and cure the phone
Sent from my SM-A505FN using Tapatalk
Accidental touch option is already on.
Check some apps installed. Maybe some of them making trouble.
On my phone, all's good. Hmmm.
My A50 is getting automatically unlocks in my pocket. I am also facing the same issue. I am using biometrics and faceunlock . Accidental touch is also turned on. Whats the use of secuirty if it can be unlocked my pocket can unlock this phone without biometrics and face. I face so many times in a day. I read samsung s10 also facing this same issue.

Listen, turn off all biometric methods and only keep pin/pattern and see?

I am facing the same issue. My phone become hot, and there is a message that biometric unlock fail for 5 times and I have to insert the pin. Meanwhile, the battery drained at least 7-8%
heat is normal while playing game, may b u shud try hard reset. Hope it will solve problem. I am using face unlock coz biometric unlocks takes time to unlock. Biometric i use rarely sometimes may b our screen has sometimes white layer of dust or oily . So that can be the reason for fngerprint problem.
Maybe u are using smart lock
Hi, Please check if you are using trusted location or device. If that option turned on turn off trusted location or device. I can not surely tell you where the option is because I will receive my device tomorrow. but there must be a option.
Just visit a service centre. Its already in warranty period. So dont worry.

Hi all ,
My samsung A50 also have the same problem , automatically unlocking while in pocket on driving, tried different settings as per various suggestions, such as accidental touch, home screen app changes, disabling of trusted devices,on body detection..etc..etc....
But no use, the issue existing .
But after a recent setting change, now its ok , some days over, till no problem. Try it , May be its workout .
And reply me the result ,...
Firstly make sure , all the normal settings are ok , accidental touch protection enabled /also disable the on body detection , trusted devices/ driving, ....the same is in the link of Smart Lock .
Then
Advanced Features - Motions & Gestures - disable the lift to wake & double tap to wake.
Other items will enable no problem , such as smart stay, alert, easy mute .
Try it and reply
Go to settings ---》 smart lock --》voice match --》while driving (turn off)
Same issue on my A70.
The "Accidental touch protection" feature doesn't seem to do anything. Maybe because it doesn't have a sensor, just the camera? Either way, the software is bugged.
I ended up turning off "Double tap to wake", as I don't really need that.
I also have the same problem that the phone unlocks in my pocket.
So iam trying now the options above to turn off some options.
I'll let know if it will work or not.
Yes my divice also unlocking automatically while in pocket

Any solution for fast unlocking

Hi there
I just switched from a Asus Zenfone 5z which has a dedicated fingerprint sensor. So one touch and you ard on home screen.
Now the fingerprint sensor on Note 10 + is slow, also the fact that one has to first click the side key and then put the finger on the screen and seemingly wait for 2 sec.
It is nowhere near as fast as the zenfone 5z.
Have you guys got any better solution or idea to unlock it fast.
Thank you for your time.

You don't exactly have to turn on phone to use fingerprint reader.
If you know the position of fingerprint reader then putting your finger there would turn on and unlock phone. But that would be if you can get it on right position. If not it would tell you and then you can readjust as it will then show you.
Other option would be to have always on display and would show position of fingerprint reader.
You can also double tap to wake up phone as well. Then go through same process.
Hope some others could add more but these has been what I've found out with my usage.

Enable the gesture "lift to wake"
Enable "always on display" so that you always see the finger print location.
What ever finger you use most for the finger print, scan it for 2 spots out of the 4 available. So I have my left thumb for 1, right pointer for 2, and right Thumb for 3 and 4. My right thumb is now always solidly fast.

1. Please clarify : Do you mean to register the same right thumb twice to increase accuracy of the right thumb, as that is what I mostly use.
2. Currently always on display is set as tap to show.
Does making it always show have any significant reduction in battery.
And that you for your time, you are very helpfull.

Also thank you for recommending the lift to wake up gesture, has increased the speed a lot.
Still wondering if I can use NFC to keep it unlocked as it is always kept on a phone stand.

You can use Smart lock Trusted places under settings-lock screen to keep phone unlocked. You just have to turn on phone then just swipe to go into phone without password but it will lock after a certain timeframe if not used.

I do know about Smart Lock but prefer not to use it as keeping the GPS on does feed the location data to other apps as well, not something I prefer to give away.
Thank you for the recommendation though.
You can register your face as well. It works really fast with lift to wake up gesture.
Smart lock can be used without GPS on, it uses a trusted wifi network to keep the phone unlocked or, if you have one a bluetooth speaker...
Don't need GPS at all...
Another vote for smart lock but with a wearable like a wear os watch. I pretty much never have to unlock my phone.
In case helpful to someone else, I enabled the increase touch sensitivity setting under Display settings and the fingerprint seems to work much quicker as I don't have to press down harder.

I have AOD set to always on, and it is super easy to unlock.
I pick up the phone, hold my thumb on the sensor and it is unlocked instantly. I don't see how it could get any better than that!

Lock Screen & Biometrics After O/night

I don't know what is happening but during the day, i can double tap or use power button to wake screen and use biometric inputs to unlock.
But when its left overnight i have to swipe up and enter pin, never used to happen on the S10 Plus.
Theres no schedule reboot ect on so this should not happen?
S20 Ultra 5G.
Anyone have ideas?
I'd say your handset is auto restarting. Maybe check to see if you have enabled a scheduled "Auto Restart"
I checked all that, theres no auto or scheduled restarts.
Just set to lock after 5 seconds of inactivity, but that isn't the issue as i can leave it for a few hours in the day and it doesn't ask for the pin.
it's normal for faceunlock you have to enter pin every 24 hrs or so and for fingerprint every 72 hrs i believe... somewhere in biometric settings there is text that explains this. yeah it's a normal security feature.

S20+ here (upgraded from S10+), I have this issue too, wasn't there on S10+. Kinda annoying. You can keep your screen on while charging in developer options, but I like the AOD because it shows the time on my nightstand.
you have to pin/pattern every 4 hours if you dont use the phone. i'm honestly regretting buying such rubbish flagship phone that force "feature" down your throat. the fp cant scan for **** too.

Yeah kind of sucks, with the mate 20 pro, i had lift to wake and face unlock, it would literally instantly unlock if i picked up the phone and held infront of my face in total darkness. The s10 and s20 cant do that. If i set lift to wake there has to be some background lighting for one and the other half it asks for the pin anyway. Frustrating.
