Hisense A5 (GSI on e-ink?) - Treble-Enabled Device Questions and Answers

Hi all,
I've just got a new e-ink device Hisense A5. I've checked via adb and it says it supports trebble.
I would love to flash GSI, but am afraid of the consequences: will it work on e-ink device?
There is no TWRP for it either.
Can anyone help to point me in the right direction? Has anyone tried GSI on an e-ink device?
Thanks

Since there is no global rom for this device AOSP GSI looks a likely solution.
I would take a chance on it if I could unlock the bootloader.
I tried all the usual methods but it looks like a determined effort has been made to keep it locked.
Anyone up to the challenge?

?
Hi!
I have this phone also!
I found this on GSI https://www.getdroidtips.com/android-10-hisense-a5/
But does this require us to have an unlocked bootloader?

I'd be interested in knowing as well. Was thinking to buy one, but a 100% chinese market phone is just a no go for me. Potentially too many "spyware" apps installed.

I have it right now and i tried it. To enter Fastboot Mode you have to press the volume up button for 10 sec while insert the charging cable to the PC (The phone needs to be powered off before doing it)
What can i do further?
It is possible at this point to get GSF ID to get it signed by google and try to install some apps?
There is a way to enter developer mode in the Phone?

One guy managed to enter dev more, maybe try to tap several time on the build number (in parameters, about phone) as usual?
Then it seems that there is a box to check allowing OEM unlock.
Third step, try "fastboot oem unlock" command.

Maybe you can have a look at this tutorial and evaluate if A5 can also be managed with Qpst.

Had a look on Internet... Seems you can flash Hisense products with qpst only... I see nothing nowhere about bootloader unlock

Look here... Always the same.

Proof that GSI can be done, pics in the attachment. Just unsparse the GSI image with simg2img and flash it to system with QFIL. As far as I've tested, only Android 9 ones boot.
The refresh rate and latency is terrible though - unoptimized AOSP is unsuited for use on e-ink display.

[Q] Nexus 7 Hardbricked?!

Okay, so recently installed the 4.4.2 OTA on my completely stock nexus 7 (unrooted, bootloader still locked).
Tried connecting to my PC via bluetooth (for headset) and noticed that it wasnt working (was working on 4.4), so decided that maybe a reboot would fix the problem.
And now the tablet doesn't boot. Completely unresponsive, no charging icon etc. either. Tried holding down the power button, power and +/- vol for 20+ secs to no avail. Connecting the tablet to my laptop makes windows update search for the QHSUSB_DLOAD driver. From what I've read this is supposed to be some sort of hardbrick?
I left the tablet completely stock and haven't done any tinkering except use the Wugfresh toolkit to do a backup (which only needed USB debugging on). Also the battery was definitely 60%+ before I attempted rebooting.
Help please? This is completely out of the blue seeing as I never even unlocked the bootloader or anything?
Please help!

Gone through both of them, tried the steps in the first one but I cant get to fastboot, still a blank screen and QHSUSB_DLOAD in device manager. The second one mentions in it's FAQ that the bootloader must be unlocked before using it? Mine was locked so I guess I cant use that method?

Hmm, well, last ditch would be to charge it overnight, and hold the power button down for several minutes, if that doesn't do it, you may have to just use the warranty.

Alright so still no dice. Warranty is out of the question because I bought an imported version off eBay before it was officially available on Google play here in India.
From what I've understood this may be recoverable. People have made fixes for some HTC devices etc. Basically if someone could makes a "QCN" backup from a working device I may be able to restore the bootloader using the Qualcomm drivers. Or would this tool be of any use?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1308546
Not too familiar with all this low level flashing stuff - so need a second opinion. Will try again today evening, leaving it unplugged this time.

Yeah, I don't know much about that either, sorry, I'm not going to be much help there.
Ok, am I the first person with this problem? When the device is plugged in to the PC and I try holding down the buttons (tried almost every combo I could think of) the disconnect/connect sound plays and the tablet is re-detected by device manager as QHSUSB_DLOAD. Im extremely disappointed that this can happen even without screwing around with the system.
The warranty card with the tablet seems to imply international warranty although not specifically stated, it's from the US, so would taking it to an Asus center in India be of any use?

Only works for a couple of HTC devices, tried asking in the IRC channel and was told that it wont help at all. Held the power button for over a minute nothing happens, still the same in device manager although I can tell it restarts back into the same mode from the connect/disconnect sound.

Downloaded them, I think a USB driver is needed for the tablet to show up as a COM port, I've tried a few drivers but QPST Configuration was unable to connect. Even if it were able to connect I dont know what to do after that, it seems that some device-specific hex/qcn/xml files are needed and this is the mode the manufacturer uses when flashing the bootloader. Does this mean that my bootloader somehow magically corrupted itself?!

okay, i think i found a solution. search the factory image for the bootloader and flash with fastboot
try following the instructions here

use "fastboot flash bootloader ****************#####***###*#.img" when you find the bootloader
GOODLUCK:good:
Or you can't get it to fastboot mode also?

That's exactly the thing, it doesnt get into fastboot mode or anything, I assume you need a working bootloader to be able to boot fastboot? If it was in fastboot I would have attempted this already.
Anyway the seller says that the item is covered under a 1 year international warranty, thats my only chance now I guess....
The thing that concerns me is that I was completely stock, locked bootloader and unrooted. Only installed the official OTA updates (no sideloading either).
For those who are interested - I finally had time to drop by the service centre. They replaced the battery and motherboard (it was under warranty). I was expecting them to do some magic with QPST or something though.
The same has just happened to me, but I'm out of luck, the warranty has expired.
Did anyone have managed to fix it with the QPST drivers?
thanks.

[Q] unlock bootloader huawei ascend p1 u9200

Hi.
Sincere apologies if I'm posting in the wrong place. (I counnld't ask it in the relevant thread since I am a new member and don't have ten posts already (forum rules)
I'm desperate.
I have Huawei Ascend P1 U9200..
Completely stock original build (as far as I know) ICS 4.0.3 Build GBRC00B102.
I want to upgrade to JB, but firstly save (backup) my current ROM.
I've followed this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2132043&page=49 as well as many others, but I cannot access the bootloader.
I have installed adb and fastboot and drivers from many sources. Nothing works.
Hold Vol- & power button still boots normally.
Use adb - adb reboot-bootloader gives Huawei logo frozen, and PC says "waiting for device". The PC brings up install driver dialogue box but no matter what I do, no driver will install. ADB does recognise my phone using "adb devices" command.
Fastboot command does nothing, but I have noticed in my task manager that "fastboot.exe" continually loads and disappears.
Please can someone tell me how to ccess the bootloader so I can install TWRP recovery and backup my ROM??
Apologies if any of the above is unclear - I'm new at flashing/ROMs etc but usually very good at understanding and following computer jargon
Thank you, in advance, for any assistance
Use Vol+ and Power Button
And for the adb,
Have you installed the correct driver?
The adb/usb driver for your device
May this help you
Give me a thank if helped

Thanks for replying
Vol+ and power button enters the recovery section.
I want to unlock the bootloader, so I can install a different recovery module.
As for adb, I'm sure I have the correct drivers. I've tried many different sources, all with same result.
ADB works, but not Fastboot - and I am assuming that is because I can't unlock the bootloader to enter fastboot mode.
Don't install more than one driver, this may cause the problem with adb. Retain only one driver and then try again later
If this cannot resolve your problem reply me, I would try my best to solve this problem

Thanks for your reply.
The adb driver didn't work on the first install. And later I did remove them all and reinstall again just once (because I was getting an "adb server expired" error).
Still no luck.
If you have any other suggestions, I'd be most grateful
In the adb shell type
Adb devices
If you see a long number then try the code given above to unlock the bootloader if not then reply me
I've got the number from adb devices.

Thanks again, but I have already tried DC-Unlocker - it doesn't recognise my phone.

Hmmm. Ok I will get the solution of your problem
Hey Sushant Rohan
Many many thanks for trying to help me, but I think now I have got it working
Many times I tried to enter bootloader and the phone wouldn't allow me. Just once in the last 5 days it did. I tried dozens of times!!!
Today, just one time, it allowed me again, and when it did the PC came up with "need to install drivers for Blaze device".
I remember seeing "blaze" on some forums, so I looked there again to see how to install drivers.
I installed them and PC accepted, but then nothing - device not displayed anywhere or anything.
And after that, again I couldn't access the bootloader in many attempts.
I kept trying and kept trying.
Finally, even though I hadn't done anything different, fastboot finally recognised my device (? fastboot) and I flashed the TWRP recovery image using fastboot command.
Fastboot said success!
I rebooted phone into recovery mode - Vol+ and power button, and there it is - the TWRP recovery mode
Now I'll attempt phone backup. (looking good so far)
Again, thanks so much for trying to help me - I really appreciate someone giving their time to try.
I have no idea why it suddenly worked for me when I didn't install anything new or different etc (but I remember reading another forum where someone said they tried 39 times and it finally worked)
I'm sure I'll reply here again if I have any more trouble
Its my pleasure to help someone in trouble

Well, the TWRP backup worked, although I was expecting just one file, but there were many - I suppose I'll have to read some more about TWRP backups!!!
But, booting into bootloader or recovery mode still doesn't work by using the phone buttons - but I can get there using adb commands.
That will have to be enough I suppose.
Thanks again for your efforts
Use can also use Clockwork Mod Recovery instead of TWRP. However both are mire or less similar. So enjoy flashing

This is what I would do,
Go to LG developers and create an account to unlock your bootloader, NOTE - when unlocking your bootloader it will erase everything on your device so back up everything that is important before unlocking
Then download Genisys rom 2.8 MM and Genisys bootloader and modem version 20D then download twrp 2.8.7.0
1.transfer the downloaded files onto your phone
2.flash twrp
3.boot into twrp and wipe system/data/dalvik/cache
4.install Genisys rom then let phone reboot
5.reboot back into twrp recovery and flash Genisys bootloader and modem 20D
Done...
Any questions you have just message me back but if you follow my guide step by step you'll be fine and on marshmallow in no time.....
---------- Post added at 12:13 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:06 AM ----------
It is best to download the rom, bootloader, modem and twrp on a pc first and then transferring to device also you will have to make sure that the drivers are fully installed on your pc for your phone, also you will need the adb files to create an adb connection so check some videos on YouTube from XDA and root junky to be fully sure you have all the files....
It sounds quite hard but as long as you have all the files and follow all the instructions you will be able to do it...

It's okay, don't worry fella
The main thing is you've unlocked your bootloader and you can boot into your phone ( things could be a lot worse trust me)
Go into device manager and check if your phone is in there also plug your phone in enable USB debugging install drivers disable USB debugging,
Switch to mtp install drivers then switch to ptp (the other one) and try to connect that way,
Don't give up buddy you've done really good so far, I have to go work soon but as soon as I'm back I'll check XDA for your post and help as soon as I can.....
ok just found out, after double checking the developer options, it seems the debug usb check box was checked off [does it auto check off on shut down?]
is it best to try install this recovery first before that marshmallow kdz file?

is it best to try install this recovery first before that marshmallow kdz file?

It doesn't matter which one is first
Also if you have an sd card then put it in an sd card reader plug in pc and copy the files from pc then insert into phone and if you still can't connect via adb then look for an app on XDA called flashfire and use that to flash twrp I'll check back as soon as I'm back from work...
Ok trying to install the recovery thing, managed to boot the phone into the boot loader, but when i try to do anymore it wont work......ive put the 2 files [recovery / superuser thing] in my DOWNLOAD folder of my phone
C:\Program Files (x86)\Minimal ADB and Fastboot>fastboot boot TWRP2861.img
cannot load 'TWRP2861.img': No such file or directory

It will say no such directory because you haven't flashed it yet type
adb flash twrp.2.8.7.0.img (that's an example, type whatever the twrp file is called)

Please confirm this is bricked

Hi guys,
I know there are plenty of posts about bricked phones and I've read most of them. Just want to do a sanity check here. If my phone has a LOCKED bootloader and USB debugging is NOT enabled, there is nothing I can do in terms of flashing an image right? I can enter bootloader and stock recovery, but when I boot to OS it bootloops.
Just want to confirm my only option is warranty claim with Google and there's no way to enable USB debugging other than from the OS?
Thanks in advance!

Go into the bootloader and on a PC with adb run "fastboot flashing unlock" and see what happens. I don't think you need adb enabled to do it but I could be wrong so just try

@piotrus22 another option would be to go into recovery and adb sideload the latest ota package from google.
Can you side load with debugging off?
Also have you factory reset from recovery?

Not sure if you can but it wouldn't hurt to try. That night work too
Try to sideload the latest ota image.

Well unfortunately you're out of things to try.
If your phone happens to be a 128gb model this is actually quite common.

Further confirmation of problems with some 128 units.

I hope your phone is under warranty because Google won't do crap if it isn't. I'm a proud owner of a POS 128GB brick thanks to their junk they sell.

Cannot connect to adb Lineage OS 16

Hey guys,
So this weekend I decided to give lineage OS 16 a try on my Xiaomi 5, the process went smoothly I think, but the battery life is really bad, so I wish to try other ROM.
Now the thing is, I cannot connect to my computer (And I could with the previous MIUI), and if I run adb devices or fastboot devices (When on fastboot) nothing shows up. I have android debug enabled.
Any ideas on what this could be?

You have twrp installed. So you don't need adb for next ROM. Try without GApps to save battery.

Hey. Thanks for the answer, I am still a bit noob on this so I am not sure I completely understand. Yes indeed I have used twrp , but I used the command fastboot boot twrp.img . Before that, I also did fastboot flash recovery <recovery_filename>.img. Does this mean that I have twrp installed or that I booted directly from it from my computer? I ask this because, when I go to recovery (Hold Power + Volume Up), I dont go to TRWP menu, but rather to the Mi-Recovery 3 menu.
Thank you!

So turns out, if I use my old cable (Which is a bit ruined at on end), it works. But if I use a new cable, that I just bought, it does not work. That is super weird right?
Thank you anyway. I am flashing Pixel Experience at the moment. ANd now I am TWRP installed.
