Hey, so I got this idea from a book and I was wondering if there's a way to make it possible if I root my phone. I want to have 2 separate user accounts but there is no option to switch accounts, the way you would access one is to type in its password (say 1234) and the way you access the other would be to type in its password (5678). So it doesn't look like there are multiple accounts, and if I need to give someone the password I can tell them 1234, but all my actual data is hidden unless I type 5678. Is that possible? I am willing to root my phone.
Thanks
Looks like this idea: https://forum.xda-developers.com/general/help/how-to-switch-user-profile-based-t3895406 . No solution though.
you can use the secure folder as your hidden user

Hi,
My touch is used for work.
Everytime I do an upgrade that requires a hard reset, I have to wait until our IT person comes to the office once a week to get my emails setup again.
They will not give me the password as it's the exchange server password I guess.
Anyway to do a backup that will keep the setup/password for after I do the update so I don't have to wait until the guy is in the office?
Thanks.

Hmm. I have an exchange server at my home (I'm an MCSE/MCT). I don't have this problem.
I don't understand why he won't give you the password. That password should be unique to you. Personally, I don't know any of my client's passwords and I don't want to. Any administrator who knows their client's passwords has set themselves up for a legal mess.
Anyways. Are you connecting through a VPN?
Hi,
I don't understand this either to be honest but I'm not an expert with exchange (I know nothing about it to be honest).
He needed my password as well so I'm not sure what other password he is on about.
We use VPN but I don't know how this works with windows mobile devices.
Thanks.

There is not a server specific password with exchange, unless for some reason he has isolated exchange on it's own AD Structure and manually creates usersnames in that domain for your email. I've seen IT guys do weird things, so I never put anything to chance.
Here is something you can do before an upgrade.
Go into activesync, then menu->configure server.
Write down all the options and configured settings.
And pay close attention to the username\domain field in the second screen. If that is the same as what you sign in with at work, then there is not another password.
The only problem I see you running into if it is the same password you normally use, is maybe he did not use a trusted CA for the server's certificate.
If that is the case, you will get the yellow exclamation error saying there is a problem with the server's certificate.
Easy fix for that, go to the server's address on your laptop/desktop, and save the certificate to a file. Then import it on your phone and you should be good to go.
Now in regards to the VPN... You normally do not see a vpn in use unless they allow you to access the resources on the domain from your phone. (Sharepoint, and exch2007 shared folder access for example)
If they are, you would have some additional vpn software installed or are using the built in vpn configuration.
That would be under Start->Settings->Connections. Under "My Work Network" tap "Manage existing connections". At the bottom, tap VPN.
If you see something in here you are using a vpn. If you don't, you probably are not, unless you see some vpn client installed in your programs.
Hope this gives you enough info to give it a try yourself after the next upgrade.
Good luck, and best wishes.
I have installed CRC WM6 ROM and everything is fine except one problem - when I try to setup a Gmail account in Outlook, it automatically detects settings for Gmail (there is no option to turn this off from what I can tell). However, the settings it detects are pop and I want imap settings. I used to have it configured with imap settings so I know it works and my gmail account is configured for that.
I try to manually edit the options after it automatically configures, but it doesn't let me change the important details such as account type (POP or IMAP) and things of that nature (grayed out, cannot edit them).
Does anyone know how to get this set up where I can have gmail as imap? I do not mind manually typing in the connection info, but it automatically detects it without providing any other options. I am not sure if this is ROM specific or a WM6 issue in outlook. The same goes for AOL (and any other automatically detected settings in Outlook).
EDIT: I found a way around it I believe. On the first step of creating a new account, I just lied about the domain name (ie: I put gmai.com instead of gmail.com). It then did not automatically detect settings, asked if I wanted to try and automatically get settings from internet, I said no, then I just filled in the information manually. It was then working and could download them via imap - I then went back and edited the setup and fixed the email account domain (although I'm not sure what this is actually used for as it's not the name that shows up in the outlook list, nor is it used to connect to the server with...)
When you are creating your account, try not using the correct username and password (either username or password must be wrong)
After some steps you will be notified that the account could not be verified. Now, try to modify your account settings and you will be able to set your IMAP.
This might be more of a solution than you need but it should fix your problem.
Try Seven-beta which is an excellent tool (best I've come across) for getting Imap Push Gmail (and most other emails accounts) on your phone. It works instantly and is very simple to set up. You can get it from their site or get it where I uploaded to here.

kwangchin You Rock!
Thanks for the simple solution kwangchin. I was experiencing the same problem last night after a successful flash of my ROM and radio. Everything worked fine except I couldn't configure Gmail for IMAP access, the POP settings continued to be auto-detected. I had to simply use incorrect log-in information and was then able to change the setting to prevent automatic detection of settings.
Hey guys... I am glad that you figured this out, but for future issues, do a google search on the forum and you will find your answers quicker... I am not bashing, but trying to show you an easier way to search....
from google, use the advanced search function... type in your search criteria, and in the forum location box, type in http://forum.xda-developers.com and it will search XDA for your information...
Like the topic says.
I want to delete my Outlook E-mail that I setup on the Dash. When I still scroll in the message screen it still shows "Outlook E-Mail" along side Test messages and MMS.
Also I can't uncheck the device lock setting and I have to put in a 6 digit code every time I need to. Previously before putting exchange on my phone it was just a 4 digit simple pin. Any way to reverse this without having to hard reset my phone?
I would like to know this too

Try deleting it through Active Sync
I have just got my Desire and whilst it is great, there are some issues that I would love some help with.
I am syncing with my work Exchange server and it is running quite well. however, I cannot find a way to sync subfolders or indeed any folder other than the Inbox. It seems to render the conversation view in the Mail app useless really (which is a shame).
Also, the security policy at work is that I have to have a password set which is fine except that now everytime I unlock my phone, I have to enter the password. Does anyone know if there is a workaround for this or an app that can help?
Thanks
Search for "LockPicker" on market place or have a look here : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=6032322
That is great thanks. Now only the subfolders to fix.
If you want to use the lock pattern (Gesture) instead then you can do the following:
1. Delete your exchange Setup on the phone.
2. Go into Security and setup a lock pattern.
3. Once that is done and tested readd your exchange account.
4. Download the app called LockPicker from Market place.
5. Go into the program and enable the Override.
6. Enjoy the new way of unlocking your phone.

Just did it on my Desire and it rocks
i've searched this forum for this issue, and found nothing.
my issue is, for some reason, i've changed my google account password from pc. after changing the password, my desire won't sync with all my google mail, calendar, etc.. is there any way to change the google account setting on my desire to match the new password?
Hi,
Remove and add new. Its 1 minute job.
i've try to remove the account. then there's a pop up says "this account is required by some applications. you can only delete it by resetting the phone to factory defaults (which deletes all your personal data). you do that in the settings application, under about phone".
i don't want to loose all my data and apps. is there any way to change the password on my phone without resetting the phone?
Whenever I swap SIM cards in my phone, it always asks for the passwords for my Google accounts again (for security purposes).
I wonder if doing this will help you out with your issue.
Regards,
Dave
thanks for the idea.. i'll borrow my friend sim card to test whether it works...
