Good morning.
Samsung had the brilliant idea of making the Exynos version available for Europe, but it was not limited to just that.
Anyone who purchased the Snapdragon version would not benefit from the Samsung warranty ... do you think it ended here? No, in fact, not only would not benefit from the warranty but could not resort to Samsung assistance even for a fee.
Customer service replied "the hardware of both phones are different" and the only difference is the processor.
Having said that, is it better for a European to buy Snapdragon? Anyone own them both? I am interested in knowing the autonomy of the battery in stand-by.
Thanks to anyone who will calm my doubts.

I'm in the UK, owner of a N975W (Canadian Note 10+) everything is perfect other than Samsung Pay, I can still speak to Samsung Assistants for any queries such as updates or support questions, they help me out fine, from what I've seen online videos, reviews etc. Qualcomm is superior in terms of GPU, Battery & compatibility with apps such as GCam so the choice was easy for me
And I had a choice between the two but won exynos for the warranty. It is good snapdragon, better gsm reception, good gpu, good processor with low consumption in stand by ... but the problem is that you can not repair it in Samsung centers. You want to buy it you can do it and maybe you will not have problems.

Hi Guys,
As I understand it, if we buy the International, unlocked model, we can't get the Samsung warranty honored in the US. Is this correct? Has anyone successfully gotten lucky with Samsung honoring it?
And most importantly, have you guys tried and have had success with third party warranties like Square Trade and etc? ?
Thanks for your sharing your experiences!

3rd party should work. Samsung officially says they dont honor it but I've heard cases of good will happening where they do fix it. If you are that worried about warranty I would buy the locked US version. I'm buying the Dual Sim version and taking my chances. If its DOA then you can always return it to the original seller they normally accept 30 days issues.
I've owned Samsung international devices since the Galaxy S II. Not only do they not warranty devices sold outside their selling region they also don't service them at your expense. You can't even add an international device to your U.S. Samsung account. You're literally on your own with a Samsung international device in the U.S.

Wow thanks for your experiences guys! What a contrasting description . Do we know if 3rd party warranties work (for sure)? Any experiences to share?
Just received mine today, I was worried about Samsung having limited its performance to be on par with the Snapdragon variant in US.
In Geekbench 4 I get 3620 single core and 8691 multi core.
Antutu score is 242,767
How about yours?
locked bootloader vs unlocked bootloader !!
I got 3729 single, and 8699 multi-core score. Pretty similar.
243.028 here
Edit: closed background apps, did a new test. 247.918 now
Exynos
I am actually annoyed with Samsung policy in Europe. The exynos processor is very bad in graphic performance vs the snapdragon 845 version.
Then I would like to buy the S9+ snapdragon version... how to find one with the SD 845 in Spain?
I would like to buy a S9+ Samsung but I need your help... I dont like the exynos version!

Even the S8 and Note 8 with SD835 have better graphics performance!

Oh god dont buy a snapdragon, total waste of money if you want proper root, twrp, roms etc. And since your here on XDA thats a given
It has a locked bootloader if you were not aware.
sent from my Pixel 2 XL or Note FE
Thanks but I need better graphic performance for emulators
With the PS2 emulator (and external joypad clip of course) the sd845 double the fps that offer the exynos version... then I have not choice!
yes of course I have.... wait two years until the exynos versions could be faster than the sd845!

Exynos, 246374. Why do they have to introduce 2 models and not stick with 1 for their flagship phones?

Qualcomm has a lock on CDMA modem patents, which is to say that Samsung can't build a working CDMA modem into the Exynos AP. To make the Exynos variant CDMA compatible, they would have to use a separate Qualcomm-licensed modem, which would both increase the cost and space needed inside the phone. They did this for the Galaxy S6 because they accurately judged the SD810 was a flaming piece of garbage, but for any other year, when the Snapdragon performance is basically equal to the Exynos in daily use (yes, even when the E8890 S7s left the S820-powered versions in the dust), they aren't willing to pay more and engineer extra space in the phones for it.

I always thought it sucked that AT&T/TMo customers were stuck with the same SD version as Verizon and Sprint simply because of the CDMA patents. I don't see why AT&T and T-Mobile couldn't just get an Exynos version for the rest of the world, and have a separate version for Sprint/Verizon and and other countries that use CDMA (albeit there aren't that many ...).
Granted, I don't know the numbers or patent laws involved, but one would think at least the the straight GSM version would benefit from greater economies of scale. Then for CDMA, it could use either an SD processor or a Qualcomm modem. I mean, is it really that much cheaper to pay for a CDMA license in EVERY SD version sold in the US and Canada, regardless of the network it ends up on, vs keeping the CDMA version as a niche product for the carriers/countries that need it? Or does Qualcomm have a few WCDMA/LTE patents in the US and Canada that forces Samsung to use SDs?
It reminds me of paying the "Microsoft tax" for a new PC when you want to run Linux and never Windows.

Never buy pre-built PCs. They're so easy to put together.
can anyone confirm if both version got fm radio or not, because on s8 snapdragon fm radio can be enabled, but none for s8 exynos

I don't think the CDMA argument is valid for Canada even, as up until the S7, they used the Exynos variant. I imagine that Samsung Canada was pressured by the American arm to switch to Snapdragon as a show of conformity, and that Canadians simply got the short end of the stick (well not this year, since the E9810 is quickly turning out to appear much worse in efficiency than the SD variant according to PA and AnandTech) as they get the snapdragon variant simply because they're next to the US.
No call recording on Exynos version sounds like so SD for me
Anandtech review is up. Some big issues on exynos.

I live in the US but I just purchased the Exynos version because i saw reviews online showing the battery life was better than the SD845 version. WTH! I was going to take my SD version back because I cant get through a full workday on this phone without charging. Im a pretty heavy user but I could get a full day with my google pixel 2. I even saw reviews putting the S9 ahead of the pixel 2 and almost as close as the pixel 2 XL. This S9 is amazing in every way except the battery.

It's a S9 non Plus Exynos vs S9 Plus Snapdragon.
Ok, first of all, I am thinking to buy soon between iPad pro 11 or note 10 plus, I know that one is tablet one is smartphone but both has pros and cons.
I live in Europe but if I will buy Snapdragon version will I get updates and warranty in EU or not.
And what about camera quality is this so bad as ppl describing on forum or is just software problem?
Camera is fine. No idea on Snapdragon 10+ warranty is valid in Europe. I suggest you ask a European Samsung store.
Sent from my SM-N975U1 using Tapatalk
The camera is excellent, many people over exagerate their experience with it, some even dare to say that some midrangers make better photos, which clearly denotes the intention of their comments, but, I would get a device intended for my country, mostly due to warranty assurances

You will get updates as normal, however you won't get any warranty in the EU, Samsung only cover warranty for devices bought in a specific region, a Spanish service centre for example will not do repairs on a American device.
Camera is down to preference in my opinion, I had a P30 Pro & although on paper it has a higher megapixel count, I find Samsung's colour algorithm & HDR to be better.
Ok, thank to you all for answer.
Asked Samsung support and they said that no warranty and no updates via OTA if I buy from different region.

So you think it's worth it to buy from America with Snapdragon? So it's not only security patches but upgrade to android 10 too?

Yes, I got mine on 9.0 Pie & had several OTAs including Android 10 & security patches
My Note 9 was from Australia and I am in Europe and got updates no problem.
I personally would pick an Exynos in Europe and enjoy the 24 month warranty that comes with it.
HI all,
The response to this will probably dictate where I purchase a new S20 from.
I've been using Apple for years, but wanted to move to Android for a while. I though the S20 looked like a safe bet to make that jump, however reading the reviews on-line - the UK Exynos version appears to suffer from bad performance, bad battery life and compatibility issues.
I've thought about getting the HK version from Wondamobile, but VoLTE and Samsung pay would not work. I wonder if I would be able to flash the phone with the UK firmware? If I could, would it trip KNOX?
I don't do any gaming, I just want a decent phone that's not an Apple. Is it worth the hassle for the Snapdragon or shall I just get the UK version of the phone and get on with my life?

Is impossible to use UK exynos firmware in a HK snapdragon version.
I have a HK snapdragon s9+ and is not possible, and it's true Samsungpay and others don't work. I was thinking the same but with this exynos bull**** a my previous experience I have decided to skip on s20 series and hope for the Note with better exynos chip or better optimize, or s21 [emoji1787]

I'm in Switzerland, wifi calling work, VoLTE just work after one year I still don't know why maybe swisscom fix it. Samsung Pay and others never worked.
For a 1200 gbp phone I think don't worth the headaches you might have.
Forget it. Buy exynos or wait. I will wait until August to see if Samsung manage to optimize camera and soc exynos, or for the Note.

Hello, guys!
I have doubts on buying a S20, which is on retail demo mode. I know only, that the phone is UK version. Is it possible to repair its IMEI, so that it can be updated after that or there is no chance? I asked a few guys, who have posted videos on YouTube, offering that service, but only two of them answered, and said, that the phone can not be updated after that, if it is European version and that banking apps can not be used on it anymore. Is it true?
Just one told me he can do it possible for update. The CPU is Exynos. The price is 220USD. Is this the only solution?
Thank you in advance!

Don't buy. It's mostly stolen regardless what the seller say.
Why I say so, s20 is too new in the market for retail shops to want to sell off their demo unit.
So don't even buy it. You'll be supporting a thief.
Sent from my SM-G985F using Tapatalk
Yeah, you are probably right, he claims it has baseband and only the IMEI needs replacement. It is not worth the money either, he wants 360GBP for it, repairing Exynos costs another 220USD and at the end it's stolen, it's Exynos and is more expensive than second hand not stolen.
I don't know only how they bring them to retail mode, ruining the real IMEI, to make them non trackable.
