Help me please High battery consumption - Redmi Note 8 Pro Questions & Answers

After update my redmi note 8 pro to 11.0.6 The battery consumption is very high

I'm on the same version as you. Have not experienced any issues. Mind providing your battery usage stats.

Make sure it's not your icon theme. I used a custom icon theme from theme store and had to change to another to fix my battery drain. If you don't use any themes then ignore this commend.

factory reset
same problem (factory reset) will fix it

Also keep in mind major source of consumption usually is display Brightness. Simply switching to Automatic brightness should save some if not using it already.
Also note that if you are having a bad coverage of network, it will suck your battery pretty fast. I noticed that on my last travel by train, I hardly had any coverage during the 3h journey and when I checked battery usage at night noticing it was lower than it usually is after a day, I saw "Cell standby" was using like half of used battery.
In that case if you know you have bad coverage best to simply turn if off during that time like subway, train whatever.
If you have not already, debloat your phone from all those unnecessary preinstalled apps.
If you can spot a few apps using a lot of battery, you can restrict the background usage if they are not supposed to run in the background and disable auto start for all the culprits.
Hope this helps.

Possible way to extends nexus battery life.

For possible the first time today after I got my nexus for two weeks, my battery actually lasted a whole day from normal usage and this is how I did it.
Check your nexus's data usage and turned off background data for most demanding applications. For me it was facebook and swype. If you have any other application that continues to update and download in the background, it is quite draining on the battery usage.
If anyone else have tips to improve battery life other than rooting and updating to 4.0.2 please let me know.
Cheers,
On the topic of data usage I found the stock news and weather app (which I don't use) had used 160mb of data in a week just prefetching articles in case I wanted read them. Suffice it to say data got disabled for that appears. Anyway on to battery drain. The easiest saver is reducing the screen brightness. I have mine set at about 25% or less and the screen is still very readable but easily get over a days use out of the phone.

It has nothing to do with usage. Some phones have battery draining while the phone is idle. So even if you're not using the phone, the phone is using high amounts of battery causing it to drain while its in standby mode.

Galaxy Note 2 Battery Life

Hello guys.
I've been reading these forums for a few months now and find it very very helpful in configuring my device. It's just now that i decided to sign up so i can be part of this great community.
This is my first ever post and i would like to get help regarding my battery life.
Ive read a few articles about battery saving and also from forums where people usually get more than a day's worth of battery life. That got me wondering why i only get around 8-10 hours average considering i only use it very lightly as im usually busy at the office. My actual usage time range about 60% of those 10 hours when i use the phone during breaks.
Here are example screenshots of my daily usage:
Here are some details about my configuration:
Brightness set to auto, most of the time at 75% level
Wifi, bluetooth, gps always off
Haptic feedback set to minimum
Mobile data always on and set to WCDMA only, area where im at is usually weak peaking at 2 bars of H and H+ signal strength
Gmail set to push notify
A few apps and widgets set to sync after every few hours(accuweather, flipboard)
Ive been considering getting an extra battery because of this but i really want to make sure first whether i could still do something or whether im doin something wrong thateads to the battery draining too fast.
So please if you have any more tips i could use, please help me out on this.
I thank you in advance.

Also here and additional screenshot to go with the two previous screenshots i posted. It says here ive only had the screen on for 3 hours.

Their battery lasts whole day long. It means that they get 10 hours of screen on time only. Not 24 hours.
Sent from my GT-N7100
Yeah. But in my case the 10 hours is the total life of the battery from the time it is charged until it dies. I'd be lucky if i even get 4 hours screen time out of it.
Do you have an idea why this is so?
Im guessing its because of the weak signal where im at and the fact that i set my phone to search for WCDMA only. Although im not sure whether this is really the culprit. I'll try setting the network mode to auto for now and see if anything changes.
Sent from my GT-N7100 using xda premium
Looks like it.
Try better battery status.
Sent from my GT-N7100
Well after i changed it to auto it improved a bit. Its currently at 14% after 11 1/2 hours with 4 1/2 hours of screen on time. The phone stayed on full edge signal for most of the time (which kind of sucks because internet became painfully slow on edge).
But still, i think this is far too short when compared to those who can get it to more than 24 hours battery and more than 10 hours of screen on time.
Is it possible that i have a defective battery?

Do you have locations services and etc (all 3 options) checked in the maps settings?
I don't get near as good battery life and my phone spends a lot of time awake. This appears to be do to google maps constantly updating my location. I would turn this off, but then i would loose google now functions.
Any help would be great.

I have only two of them checked(Use Wireless Networks and Location and Google Search). I have GPS disabled. i only turn GPS on when i'm traveling to an unfamiliar place which is not too often.
i got exactly the same problem, whats your firmware?
since i updated the phone to 4.1.2 the battery drains alone, every 8 hours it discharges 25% without using the phone, i am lucky if i get 5 hours of screen. The android os is the one draining all the battery in my phone. On 4.1.1 i could get 7 hours of screen time with 20+hours overall.

i got 4.1.2.
I can't compare mine to 4.1.1 because when i bought mine it got updated to 4.1.2 after a few hours.
having to charge at least two times a day really negates the otherwise great features of this phone.
I really hope we figure this out. I'll try UtkarshGuptas suggestion using Better Battery Stats and let you know what i find out.
I did they and found Google location services is the culprit.
I'm am referring to the locations services found under location setting in the actual Google maps app. I believe turning of location reporting may disrupt Google now features. Google locations devices is reading out as the main reason for nine consistent partial wake locks on better battery stats.
I'll try turning these features off and awe how it affects battery life and Google now tomorrow.

Please let us know.
after doin some tests with bbs i found the wakelock is mhl_wakelock,
First off, forget all the battery programs. Factory default your phone and add an apk at a time and use. You'll be able to tell what apk is the problem with a lil testing. Slow process yes but pretty straight forward and to the point. I do have a Note 2 and have no battery issues being rooted and having tons of programs, etc. Basically, I use and abuse my device as per my job and still get a day and a half out of the battery.
People who can get 24hr coupled with 8hr screen time most likely have their phone on low brightness and on WIFI not data.
I got a new battery and its still lasts the same as the other. Yeah it may be because of the mobile data always on that eats up my battery.
Problem is my data connection is my primary internet source i dont always have wifi hotspots. So i might just have to live with the short battery life or learn to turn off my data when i dont need it.
I'll still try looking for other things that contribute to the battery being drained though.
Thanks everyone.

I have GPS disabled, auto brightness (but fairly high level) and that improved battery life quite a bit. I then changed kernel to NEAK kernel, reduced the voltage levels for the CPU and that further improved battery life. I can get a full 24 hours on one charge and with normal (?) usage). With the new kernel I can also modify the charging current to a slightly higher level which reduces the time to bring to a full charge.
All in all not too bad but to expect more than 24 hours is unrealistic in my opinion as it is a big handful of electronics!
Not sure what you guys are are doing different. This is my first full month with my note and the battery is a beast. GPS is enabled at all times but all other syncs are disabled. That's just from previous experience. Sync will always drain the battery. So mine is off. I went as far as removing all the extra chargers around my office and home. .now I only need one. And I alsi don't see a need for an extended battery unless I'm going to be away from civilization for a few days. By the way..that was the only time I've killed my battery..kinda. see screenies
--I forgot about brightness- mine is set to 50% and 4G/LTE ..if the device is always searching for it, it will kill your battery. I turn it off at the office as much as I can.

I get between 6-7 hours of on screen time on mine.
Using dark backgrounds really helped the bettery life for me. I use a dark wallpaper for touchwiz, whatsapp, and also carbon as my twitter client.
Using Perseus kernel also helped because it doesn't ramp up the cpu as high as the stock kernel.
Wanamlite rom.
Brightness set to lowest at home. 25-50% when outdoors.
Two MS exchange emails set to push.
I use wifi all the time unless it's not available I switch to HSPA+. what a waste of a paid data plan
Google now disabled because it's a battery hog. location services kept on though.

8.1 Battery Drainig - Recommended EX Kernel Settings?

I'm new to my Pixel 2 XL and have the 8.1 update and am seeing horrible battery life. Noticed others in here also experiencing this and wondered if any of you have some recommended settings for EX Kernel that can improve battery life? I only use the phone for notes, camera, calls, messages, etc... Daily use type of stuff. I don't play any games on my phone other than Hearthstone and it doesn't require much to be smooth and I watch some YouTube here and there but it also doesn't require much so anything I can do to get those 6 hour SoTs everyone raves about with this phone.
Standby is great, in use is just embarrassing.
Mine is opposite. It easy to get 6 or more hours SOT using the phone but the thing drops like 10% battery overnight even with battery and data saver on.

A kernel will not stop a badly behaving app from drawing too much power, or not dozing when it is supposed to. You would be better served in using a battery drain app to find your wakelock/bad actors and deal with them. Beyond the information you can get from the improved Google battery applet, GSam and BBS are two apps that can help pinpoint the application or service causing excessive battery drain. It is not the kernel, and as flar2 states, the new chips are so efficient with power there is almost no room for improvement battery-wise. Most people leave it on the default settings, and use it for extra features and customization.
https://elementalx.org/the-truth-about-kernels-and-battery-life/
I agree 100%, I just thought some settings adjustments with the kernel could do some good and maybe someone might have some ideas on what would help the in-use battery consumption. I'm currently clean flashed with only Google APPs and Nova Launcher installed along with EX Kernel and Magisk no modules. Battery drain only shows android system... Not a lot to tell me what it really is. Will try the apps you suggest

PLEASE help me improve my battery life!

Hello everyone!
Proud owner of 5T for about 2 months now, switched from OPX and the performance, the screen, the everything was such a big improvement!
However, I've started noticing that my battery life is sub par... And I frequently read on forums and reddit that people achieve 5-6 hours SOT. I think I average about 4h SOT.. The reason I can't say for sure is because I've probably never charged my phone up to 100% (all hail dash charging when you can just plug it in for 20mins and get an extra hour lol).
Right now I'm testing this out, so I've charged my phone to 100% and I'll see how it goes.. Right now I'm on 36% with 2h 24min SOT and 14h 20mins since last full charge...
Here are some things I've tried:
- I frequently delete cache
- I've set animation scales and some other things to lower in developer options
- I use greenify automatic hibernation
- I don't have auto updates in Play store
- I have most of the notifications turned off
... There are probably more things that I can't remember right now, but I think I've probably tried most of the frequent fixes.
Right now I'm thinking of switching to a custom ROM (I loved Lineage and SultanRom on my OPX), because right now I'm running 8.0.0 (I've never upgraded because some people were saying it slowed their phones and/or worsened their battery life).
Please XDA, help me. I really want that 6hrs SOT and not having to bring charger with me around lol
Your battery life can depends on what apps you use, what you have on (wifi, bluetooth, data and stuff), you could check if something if heavily using up your battery in the corresponding section of your settings.
What kind of ROM you use doesn't noticeably affect your battery life as much. Instead however, people achieve a higher battery life by installing a custom kernel - they really do help, both in smoothness and SOT, give it a go mate
starting walking with several power banks ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ? ?
Don't clear your cache very frequent.
Uninstall app you don't use.
Disable vibrations.
Use dark, black wallpaper. Bright colors consume more baterry. Blue is bad for our eyes.
Use black menu, interface, where is possible.
Disable Location if you don't need it.
Close the phone when you don't use it.
Finally, get a job.
Download better battery stats.
Then unistall greenery and use oreos background restrictor in battery settings
Also uodate to the latest

S20 serious battery drain issue

My s20 Exynos is draining 1 percentage battery every 3 minutes when screen is on. Location , bluetooth, aod and all are off including Bixby. I'm using single sim and signal is very good. Using wifi for data. Can't understand what is causing battery drain.
Is my battery fault? I purchased just 2 weeks ago and it's really frustrating me.
Thanks a lot for your list. I'm going to do factory reset and check how it improves. Its a big pain moving all files to pc and copying back. I'll update my status in some days sure. My sot is very bad now, getting 3 hours only

For the moment it's normal let the phone learn your habits and your usage do the update and do 2 or 3 full cycle charge (20 to 100%) after that it will be good if not you can ask a replacement because you have a damaged product

Its up to date. Yesterday I received wireless dex one ui 2.5 update. Battery drain is still worst. I have cleared cache also. Anybody help me to solve this please?

I had similar issue on my S 20 Ultra but even worse. After update to One UI 2.5 I had huge battery drain, overheating, can not even reach 120hz and had lags every 10 secconds no matter what I was doing.
I tried to: Wipe cache did not help, new function apps optimizer did not help, restart did not help.
I found that new "design" Edge panel ate approx 8% of battery over the night so I disabled it ,restarted my phone and everything went back to normal.
I never had such a problems with any phone in the past. This is embarrassing!
Hope this will work for you too!
May I know how did you know edge panel took 8%?
Because battery care does not show system apps power consumption. Accubattery and gsm battery also did not show system apps power consumption.
I struck on finding which one is causing this huge power consumption.

settings -> device care -> battery -> battery usage-> edge screen
edge panel is a part of edge screen "app" which I can normaly see in the list.
I've checked it. It shows only 1% was used for edge screen. Samsung has hidden the feature of showing system usage like screen , wifi, cell radio signals etc.
Why the hell they did this. If it is available we can easily find which one is causing issue
Any ideas?
Try running med power saving as a test, see what your drain is then.
What is showing as your biggest battery drainer? You can try grabbing galaxy labs and seeing what's going on via battery tracker. You can find galaxy labs in the galaxy store, if it's not there then someone posted the apks in the apps forum as it's only available in some regions. . It gives you a little more granular visibility in batt usage.
check out gsam battery monitor from google play store. You will need to enable permissions to allow it to collect enhanced stats. This is done via ADB ( Android Debug Bridge), which is quite a simple process. The app walks you through enabling it step by step. This may help to identify what is going on. I can't remember how much detail it gives on system processes. But it is free, so worth a try
Newest update has also tanked my battery. Have a S20 snapdragon.
welcome to the world of exynos
see my post #311 here https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s20/review/screen-time-t4010447/page32 it may assist with some options to tweak to help with your drain. I got the new update a few days ago and my battery use is still fine, around 3% drain overnight for 8 hours.
Battery and Lag
I have the S20+ and when the new software BTH5 was installed...it was a nightmare ...huge drain and lag was terrible...I wiped cache no difference then factory reset which I hate doing due to the reinstall........however it is absolutely perfect having done that. hope that helps
Install Better battery stats from plays store, give it all the required permissions, do a full cycle and check what is draining your battery there. It's a very good app, perfect for troubleshooting battery problems.

There is no app causing battery drain because I have put all apps in deep sleep mode. Accubattery and Samsung labs battery tracker showing apps power consumption only and not hardware power consumption.
I've charged for 92% and it went to 82% in half an hour of sot and 2 hours of screen off.
This is very annoying me to find out where is the problem
No issue here. Do a factory reset may help
