One way to force shutdown your phone - LG V30 Guides, News, & Discussion

If you are facing similar problems like me, see Help! bootloop per 5 sec, cannot enter rec, download or fastboot, and don't want a burn-in screen, try a physical method to shut down your phone: low temperature.
Put your phone into a refrigerator working at around -20℃ (maybe -10℃ is sufficient, but not tested) for about half an hour (depending on the current temperature you're in, but not much difference), or if it's cold enough outdoors, you can put it outside as well. Then it should be shut down due to the battery protection mechanism.
Caution, do not drop the temperature any more than that mentioned above, or you would damage the battery permanently (I'm informed it's less than -40℃).
PS: one more way to turn off the screen (not real shutdown) if you have a working computer: entering 9008 mode. Connect your phone to the computer via USB. Hold volume- and power button, press volume+ for multiple times. If the screen is not getting black, unplug the cable and try it again.
Update: @runningnak3d mentioned in https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=80216986&postcount=7 that hold all the three of vol+, vol- and power keys for countdown reboot and at the second time release them, then the phone could be turned off. But I cannot test it now and I doubt if that works at any time. If you succeed please reply to let me know.

Power/Hardware Problem?

I recently got my wife an Excalibur (I've been cooking/flashing Kaiser Roms for a while) and unlocked/upgraded it without issue.
She's been using the phone several weeks, until the following series of symptoms began:
1. Phone shuts down several seconds after booting up - sometimes with shutdown screen/noise, sometimes without.
2. Phone will not boot up again until battery is removed and reinserted, at which point it automatically boots (without depressing power button).
3. Phone shows full battery and charging light indicates charging while on, but will not appear again after shut down.
4. Phone will NOT hard reset using soft-keys + power, or enter bootloader using camera button, and thus cannot be hard-reset or re-flashed.
The only (non-ruining) possibility I can think of, which I'll look into, is mis-sensing the power button permanently depressed (which may initiate shut down after boot-up and prevent bootloader/hard reset?).
That, or some bizarre hardware/power issue.
Any ideas?
Thanks for any help...
I'd buy "borrow if can" a branded battery like simplo and see if you have a battery issue?
Also worth considering is the charger what happens when plug in via USB?

How I "fixed" a "brick" on Xperia SL

Hello,
I'm a new user and this is my first post here. I felt the need to "contribute" with my somewhat of a unique case.
I bought the Xperia SL 48h ago, and managed to "brick" it. The phone just died on me during regular use, I was in astro manager at the moment of the brick, the screen gradually turned off, and the phone became unresponsive soon afterwards. It didn't react when I plugged in the charger or when I connected it to my pc, the LED was dead, power + vol up button combo was also useless, and the pc saw my device as "QHSUSB_DLOAD".
I managed to solve this issue by holding power + vol up button combination for four (4!) minutes. I didn't really have a stopwatch, but I was in the bus on road to the store to return the phone, and just thought I might give persistence and stubbornness a chance. Three bus stops later, the phone vibrates and just turns on normally, like nothing happened.
I don't know how bugs like this occur, nor do I know how to prevent them; I am going to pretend this was just a work of gremlins.
Bottom line - if power on + vol up button combo didn't work for you for a 5 second, 10 second or a 30 second time-span, hold them buttons for a couple of minutes and pray that it works. I hope this helps someone.
Best regards
Did it have enough charge?

Seems your phone got stuck and turned the screen off.
Holding power+volume Up forces it to shutdown without messing with the battery-removal.
So you might have been able to restart it successfully.

The battery was at 14% at the time of power+vol up wake up. I didn't charge it though, I plugged in the charger just to see if there was a LED on, but there wasn't any LED response whatsoever.

That must be it. At the moment of the brick, screen gradually turned off, with darker colors becoming instantly black, and brigther colors getting a yellow tint just before everything vanished from the screen. Thing is though, the phone didn't react to the power+vol up combo right away, but two hours later and almost four minutes of holding the buttons.
One more thing that I noticed was, when the phone was connected to my pc, if I held the power+vol up, the pc would add/remove my hardware in a cycle, or at least play the sound of a device connected/disconnected. The phone still remained dead, but returned later for a miraculous wake up.

I'm not an expert, but this is probably your phone entering fastboot mode and then being disconnected due to incorrect drivers on the PC.
Glad your phone came back though. Comatose phones are terrifying, no?

I'm not out of the woods yet.
Got myself a second brick, and I've been trying to work it out for the past 24+ hours. I won't post about it on this thread, I've posted here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39847797&postcount=532 , but I will report back with any advancements on the matter.

Phone not bricked, but usually won't boot in any way

Hello everyone, thank you for your time.
TL;DR: Phone boots into download mode up until "Downloading...", recovery mode until "RECOVERY BOOTING," and can only boot right when I put the battery in. The battery is fully charged, and I can boot up until my home screen only once so far. Will a jig fix the issue, or should I try to get the phone replaced by TMobile warranty as I have before?
I have a Galaxy S3 from TMobile, and have been running CyanogenMod for about a year now. 2 days ago I flashed a nightly release, which I assume was unstable. Yesterday, my screen was on and then my phone turned off (low battery, but 99% sure it was a crash rather than a power off), and did not boot up again. After attempting to pull the battery out, charge for hours, turn on and plug in (in different combinations), the furthest I could get was a couple of seconds of the CyanogenMod Galaxy S3 logo initial boot screen (not the rotating splash screen).
I took my phone to TMobile today and was about to get it replaced until I realized I didn't mask the flashes.
The last time I was in an exact same situation with the same phone model, and my flash counter was still showing custom firmware, yet I did manage to get it replaced effortlessly, but I didn't want to risk what was a possible fluke again.
I get home, and here's my current situation.
The only way the phone boots up in any manner is when I take the battery out and the charger is not plugged in. Here are the scenarios I run into:
1. Boots into download mode, can press VOL + to get to the "Downloading..." screen, then shuts off 2 seconds after.
2. Boots into recovery mode, only up until "RECOVERY BOOTING", then shuts off.
3. Boot by pressing power button, plug charger in, shows grey battery icon.
3. Boots into download mode, can press VOL -, either shuts off, OR
3b) Only after tons of tries, it booted up all the way up until my actual home screen, then shut off.
I can't have the charger plugged in while booting (pc or wall), and I can only boot right after I put the battery in.
Are there any suggestions as to what I should do? I was thinking of buying a jig from Amazon, but I don't know if it is hard bricked or not. Should I just attempt to get it replaced under warranty once again, even though it shows the flash count?
Thank you very much!
FIX: STUCK POWER BUTTON PROBLEM
So, one thing I didn't check. Take the battery out of the phone, wait about a minute. If it buzzes as if its powering on, that means that your power button (either the actual button itself or the switch on the mainboard) is stuck.
Solution: Smack the power button with your battery until your battery has a (small) dent. If it doesn't work, smack it a couple more times. Took me 2 tries, second try, phone didn't buzz when I put battery in. I press the power button, works like new. Absolutely....ridiculous

Suggestions for things to try with bricked 5x

I was getting a notice on boot that said "Your device is corrupted and cannot be trusted," so I held down the power and volume down buttons to get it to fastboot mode. However, I couldn't get it to be recognized in fastboot on my laptop. At one point I selected "reboot bootloader" and the phone promptly shut off, black screen and completely unresponsive.
From that point on, I can't get it to do anything. I've tried holding power + volume down for 20 seconds and then plugging it in (as noted in another thread) as well as taking it apart and disconnecting the battery to see if that would reset it somehow. No dice.
Any other suggestions before I give up? Thanks very much in advance...

my device is for the most part of the time in qualcomm mode, but I managed to have access to the phone 3 days ago, installing apps & stuff, worked perfectly well until I had
the bad idea to try to charge it through the charger instead of charging it through my computer...
how I've done it?
I used the power reboot technic :
1) pressing the power button for 1 minute
2) doing nothing for some seconds
3) pressing the power button again for 1 minute
4) connecting the phone to the charger, the red light flashed
5) the battery icon appeared soon after
6) waiting for complete charge, phone rebooting
it worked once, so I suppose it can work again. fingers crossed.

HTC 10 Unresponsive & Can't Restart But Alive

I hope I'm posting this in the right place but I'm desperate for help.
My phone, HTC 10, froze and then the screen turned off while I was taking a picture.
The charge should have been around 80%.
Symptoms:
The screen is unresponsive.
Couldn't get the home button/finger print sensor to turn the screen on.
Couldn't get the power button to turn the screen on.
A call to my phone could not reach my number as well.
When plugged in to a wall charger or laptop no indicator light turns on.
When connected to a laptop, the laptop makes that connection noise and a long name with QualComm in it shows up.
Tried Power Button + Volume Up for 10 seconds but didn't get any result.
Side note:
The power button was a little faulty before as well.
You have to squeeze it a certain way to make it work.
I need to somehow restart my phone. Any ideas?

Try to clean all buttons really well, if it keeps failing to boot and the phone is still recognized as Qualcomm it's probably bricked.
Simple explanation of the word bricked :
When the phone doesn't boot, when you can't access the bootloader, download mode or recovery it's bricked!

Strange turn of events: I plugged the phone to my laptop because I read somewhere that it drains the battery. Just for the kicks, after a few hours, I unplugged and re-plugged my phone. Suddenly, there was light. The battery light came back. I immediately switched to the wall charger and once I did that the battery icon appeared showing 1%. Now, it's peacefully charging away. Will see if it actually turns on later on once it's charged about half an hour.
