I'm trying to instal Cyanomodgen, and have it working properly, thats my ultimate goal
I wiped my phone completely
I do CANNOT physically put my SD card to a computer atm, I'm trying to work around it
Odin does recognize my device, I can only install TWRP for some reason and not CWM with Odin ( program stops working with CWM and crashes ) I have tried different types of CWM, to no avail. I used to have it, then switched to TWRP for testing purposes
I would much rather use CWM, honestly. Any ideas why thats not working?
I am using ADB push filename.zip /sdcard/ for my cyanomodgen and when I go into my file manager I do not see my files anywhere at all, but when I go to wipe stuff, I can see there is 200mb in there( obviously its there but i cant see it )
There's a sideload.zip in there idk what that is
I've tried sideloading the cyanomodgen.zip and I get a radio error ( maybe its just the nightly file messed up, not sure )
I have tried installing CWM with heimdall, and I have to replace my phones drivers with theirs and it tells me it was successful but when I reboot I get stuck in firmware upgrade encountered an issue and the only way to fix that is to re-install the original drivers
I just tried heimdall again, failed, bout to reinstall TWRP and await further assistance.
Got CWM working, converted back to stock image and now I'm going to try this all over again, just keeping everyone updated
I fixed my phone completely, full updated and functioning properly except video not working on snapchat, other than that its perfect, i think the nightly build has something to do with my camera.
I'll leave this thread here in-case anyone has the same problem I can come back and help them.
Hi all
Hopefully someone will be able to help me here as have spent all day going round in circles and finally decided I need to stop stabbing in the dark and ask for help from people who know what there doing.
My son has a Sony Xperia M (C1905). He's always running out of space with all the games he likes to play on it so I thought I would move them to a removable 8GB SD card for him. After downloading and installing a app that should have allowed me to move them I was still unable to so I did a Google and found out that its not possible with this phone with out rooting it.
At this point I started looking into how to do it and found out I needed to unlock my boot loader. I used this site (developer.sonymobile.com/unlockbootloader) to get the code required and used the code in "Sony Mobile Flasher by Androxyde V0.9.18.1" to unlock it with out any problems. When I restarted the phone it would get stuck on the operator logo (Three UK) no matter how many times i restarted it or pulled the battery out.
Since then I have tried various different ROMS for the Xperia M, both installed via the CWM (zip file) and via the flash program (ftf file), also I have tried a few different versions of the CWM. All of this has got me no closer to getting the phone working again. I either get errors while trying to install the ROM or it installed fine and just goes into a boot loop.
I don't believe I have bricked the phone as I can still do everything on it (flash more, fastboot mode, format etc in CWM) i just cant get the phone to boot up correctly. Also drivers are installed on my pc fine so dont think its a problem with that either. I do think it cold just be not using the correct ROM, CWM, KERNEL?
Would someone please be able to help me out here and give me a step by step guide of what I need to do (in simple terms) along with what files to use. I'm not after the latest Android version as long as its a recent version, the only thing it has to be able to do is move apps to the SD card.
Thanks in advance for any help.
Hi,
You will need to flash the phone with the stock firmware.
Here is the topic that explains how to do it using Flashtool and also contains links to the firmware: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2697277
Once your phone is unlocked, you can follow this topic to install CM11 on your phone: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2584956
and lastly, this tutorial will help you use your SD card as an internal storage: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2711280&page=2
Thank you so much for your reply.
I was just coming to say that I had somehow managed to get CyanogenMod 11 rom installed and working fine (all be it with a lot of apps like play store etc missing. Do i have to install them after?)
ill have a look at the links you provided as well. thanks

If everything is working properly then you just apply the topic on the swap (last point of my first post), there are several method for each variant (which is on stock rom or CM11)
Hey guys,
First off, I've searched far and wide for any help with my problem but it is such a peculiar situation that I have yet to find someone with a similar situation. I expect if I want to ever use my M8 again, I'll need to send it to HTC and pay a few hundred bucks to fix it. But maybe someone here will have an idea that I've missed.
Shortly after getting my M8, I unlocked my device, rooted it and installed a few roms. Everything was fine save for one major thing: no matter which PC I used (and I used MANY - 3 different windows destops, a windows desktop at the office and my Macbook Pro) the device was never able to mount and make the storage accessible. I knew at that point something at some point had gone wrong. I've long preferred to use a wireless file transfer app to send stuff to and from my phone so I wouldn't have to break out all my cables so I figured it wouldn't be a big deal. I'd make it work.
A few days ago, I decided to try a different rom than what I'd been using for months (HD Revolution - great rom!) and downloaded everything required. I booted to TWRP, wiped the usual stuff and flashed my rom. When I rebooted, I was continually met with a crash as soon as the phone started and was never able to get into the OS. No big deal - this has happened before with other devices, so I didn't sweat it. I simply powered down the phone and tried to get back to recovery. Here's where the problem really kicked in : when attempting to boot to recovery, my phone will bring up the Hboot screen but instantly try to select the first option, thus not allowing me to scroll down to "Recovery". No matter what I do, it brings up the white Hboot screen, automatically selects the first option, gives me some error (I'm at work so I don't have the device in front of me) and tries to boot to the OS. That takes us back to the automatic crash.
Now, I know usually the solution would involve USB and ADB, but like I mentioned at the start of my sad tale, connecting my phone to PC's results either in nothing (Mac) or a "the device has failed" message in Windows. I've tried removing all the phone drivers, reinstalling and using a few toolkit methods - the phone is just never ever detected.
So, that's it. I'm pretty much resigned to sending my phone in and the HTC folks quoted me about $200. I do have a functional phone at the moment so it isn't the worst situation in the world, but if I could fix this I'd be able to using it as my main device again or sell it for a good chunk of change - I just bought it in June.
Sorry for the long read!
As far as the storage issue, never seen that happen before so I'm not sure. When you plug it in to the computer does the phone ask if you want to connect it as a storage device etc?
The bootloader is a very peculiar problem. It almost sounds like you have an img file that its trying to read as soon as you boot into boot loader.
Try to install HTC sync. And make sure the computer has an internet connection when you plug it in via usb.
Try to flash stock recovery fw buddy
Maybe thats problem RUU
Cek mike blg to find all stock recovery fw
After that install custom recovery again
This sounds a little familiar.
In my experience I've found some firmware versions and ROMs very choppy.
I once had a problem with storage too, couldn't send anything over to my phone.
Fortunately I could access recovery, so used ADB sideload and installed another ROM. And went to another firmware and never looked back.
The last 401.6 firmware gave me all sorts of issue.
If you can access fastboot I'd also recommend new firmware 401.7 is working flawlessly for me with ARHD 21.
Sent from my HTC One_M8 using XDA Free mobile app
I would try putting one of the bootable ruus on your SD card so when it goes to your hboot, it'll read the RUU and install it
Awesome, some interesting suggestions here. Would I be able to somehow update the firmware via an SD card without any input from a computer? I managed to get into Recovery last night somehow (maybe letting the battery totally drain and charging it for a while did something) but plugging in my phone when in recovery still won't mount the storage or be recognized by ADB. Would I somehow be able update my firmware from recovery without the need of ADB'ing from my desktop? I've been looking at ROM threads and stuff and noticed that almost every rom requires new firmware or WiFI/radios other stuff won't work....
I'm at work right now so I'll definitely research this in depth when I get home, but if you guys could guide me in the right direction, I'd really appreciate it and maybe buy ya' a beer.

Download a rom that can use the 2.xx firmware. Look around and you should be able to find the roms. There's still plenty out there. Here's a little suggestion, reflash TWRP (or other recovery) through fastboot than grab a SD card and place the rom into the SD card and install the rom using through the use of a SD card. Just remember to do a full wipe before that
Ok, so I have a Kindle Fire 2, running 10.5.1. About a year or so ago I bricked the board completely. I recently bought a replacement motherboard, but it said it can't be registered on Amazon, which it cant, (it cannot recognize any account information, new or existing). I have tried the root method found here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2075959 but the binary root method never does anything to the device, (it does at least recognize it), and Quemu can't seem to do anything successfully either. I'd like to just wipe the thing and put on a custom rom if it's possible, but if not, even returning to a working stock rom that I can register my account to would be ok. Anyone know what I can do to ge this thing back up an running again?
*Update*
Ok, I managed to get root, (I think), running option 3 in binarys root, followed by quemu, but I still cant get any apps running via Amazon, (Still can't register), nor does trying to side load apps work via adb.
So it seems most of my problems stemmed from using windows 8.1 to try and do most of the work I was doing via adb. I managed to get it rooted, although the root gives me very little usability. for whatever reason, this board is locked out of being able to register on Amazon, (not that I care all that much). I have been trying to load a new rom, via the instructions on this link, (after switching to Windows 7 to do the work), http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2100963 Everything seems to have gone fine through fastboot, but when I try to load into TWRP, is just sits there saying its booting into TWRP, but never actually does so. Anyone know why, or what could cause this? I'd love to be able to load a working rom that has google apps access and make this thing useful again.
Got It...
So I eventually got TWRP to work, but I needed to use the 2.8.0.0 to do it, which is fine since I wanted to load a kit kat rom anyway. the only weird thing is that in order to use twrp, I have to go through the entire flashboot steps of loading twrp anytime I actually want to be able to successfully boot into twrp. I have no idea why this is, and although it is a pain in the rear, it still allowed me to, (after having to push the roms onto the device via adb since that was the only thing that would work), install PAC-Mans official 4.4 rom. I dont really need twrp anymore, so having to re-do the whole process to get into it doesn't make a difference. I am still kind of curious of what it is the place I bought the replacement board from did to it to cause so many problems, and why it could never register to amazon, but since I have a working kit kat tablet, I suppose it doesn't really matter. Still, if you are ever in the same pickle as I was, feel free to contact me and hopefully I can help you get through it.
Hello XDA Community,
I'm new to the Android Flashing process as I've never had a need to. My grandfather currently has an S4 (TMobile - SGH-M919) .
He can't run moviePass (Which he uses all the time to see movies everyday, he's 87 years old) MoviePass requires at least Android 5.0 which t-mobile didn't push any OTA updates to.
I'm a bit overwhelmed with all the information on this site and wanted to know if someone can point me in the easiest direction possible as I feel i'm going to break something.
He doesn't need anything too fancy as long as it works. I'm not sure if i need to root the phone. What the best way to root this phone considering it's very old? Can I flash a stock firmware on here and have it work still with T-Mobile.
If it makes more sense i'll probably advise him to just buy a used S6 or S7 but I figured this was worth a shot. Appreciate any help you can provide. TIA!
I'm pretty technical so if you can just give me some pointers I think i can figure it out.

Hi aliencds,
You could try installing LineageOS on his phone first before buying a new phone. I've installed LineageOS on my Galaxy S4 and it works great still. The latest LineageOS version that works for the Galaxy S4 is based on Android 7.1.1. I also want to be clear that what I'm about to suggest will require you to erase his phone and I don't take any responsibility for what might happen (though it's tried and true). It'll also remove any of the Samsung-specific ROM features that came with his phone (no more Smart Stay, Smart Scroll, etc).
You don't need to root the phone, but you will need a custom recovery to install LineageOS. I'd recommend you download TWRP from here (make sure to pick the latest version with the file extension that ends in .tar). You can flash that onto his phone using Odin or Heimdall, but I'd recommend Odin because I feel like Heimdall is a pain to use (Heimdall is CLI). Odin does require a Windows computer, though. This XDA thread is a good place for some reputable download links for Odin.
You'll also need the actual LineageOS file (Android 7.1.1) and an OpenGApps package to pull this off. LineageOS for the T-Mobile Galaxy S4 can be downloaded here (pick the latest version). OpenGApps installs the Google Play Store and Google Play Services, and it can be downloaded here. When downloading OpenGApps for the Galaxy S4, make sure ARM (not ARM64) and Android 7.1 are selected. From there, select the package you'd prefer to install. You can pick the aroma package for the ability to select any of the Google apps you want to install, but if you don't pick aroma, it might be best to pick micro, nano, or pico because the Galaxy S4 doesn't really have enough system partition space to handle the bigger packages.
After you download LineageOS and OpenGApps, make sure they're both on the phone -- so you could've either downloaded it straight from the phone itself, or you can download it on your computer and transfer the files over to the phone via USB.
Next, you'll use Odin and Download Mode to flash LineageOS onto his phone.. To put the phone into Download Mode, turn the phone off. Then, press and hold the power button and volume down buttons, then release them when you get the Download Mode screen. Next, plug the phone into your computer, and you'll use the "AP" button in Odin to flash the recovery file that you download from the TWRP website onto the phone.
After that, you'll need to use TWRP on the phone to install LineageOS and OpenGApps via recovery mode. To get into recovery mode, turn off the phone. Next, press and hold the power button and volume up buttons until you see the small "RECOVERY MODE" text in blue in the top left corner of the phone screen, then release the buttons. From there, do a factory data reset with TWRP using its "wipe" button, then install the LineageOS zip, then install the OpenGApps zip. You won't need to reboot in between any of these steps, and especially don't reboot before you install OpenGApps - you might have to go back into TWRP and start all over. But after you've finished flashing LineageOS and then OpenGApps, reboot and set up the phone.
Honestly, the recovery mode and download mode button combinations can be tricky to get right. A video might help you get into those modes better than written explanations will, since a lot of it has to do with the timing.
After you've gotten everything installed, you'll have Android 7.1.1 on his phone with working Google apps. From there, you should be able to get MoviePass to work. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns, especially because this was a pretty brief overview.
Thank you so much for the help I'm going to try all this later. Is it OK to backup on kies for me to just save his contacts etc..
Edit: so i got it to work. Ran into some small hiccup. I had to install an older version of TWRP. Everytime I flashed the latest it would do nothing.
I flashed TWRP 2.6 which i just had to google for it
I then followed the rest of your steps and everything appears to be working. I'l have to get his gmail password now so i can install moviepass. I went with the G-APPS Micro as you suggested.
The phone is running Android 7.1.2.
Thank you again. Both my grandfather and grandmother will be thrilled that they dont need to buy a new phone just yet!
Sorry Edit number 2. I'm trying to update TWRP but i see a message that kernel is not seandroid enforcing.
