Fingerprint scanner patch/kernel - Samsung Galaxy A50 Questions & Answers

This is a great phone but the fingerprint scanner sucks. I fully updated to all the current security patches but the scanner still is hit or miss.
Are there any kernels or patches developed to help fix this issue?
Is the scanner issue a software or hardware problem?

Personally i dont have much issues with it, it's not the fastest one sure but it recognizes fp correctly like 99% of the time.. are you using screen protector?

Just the protector that came with the phone. Has it been proven that thats the issue?

My A50 came with a screen protector on it. I did some looking around and there are a few that claim to work better than the default one. I'll take it off and give it a try but I prefer to have the screen protector on.

A50s and A51 seem to have a faster one, so this is it.

Do you know if it was a hardware change or software upgrade?

Funny thing is I use the Whatsapp fingerprint scanner to unlock my Whatsapp and it works GREAT! Literally its a difference between night and day. Why does it work better with an app and not the system?

[Q] Screen goes blank when calling

I think I need some help, running stock just factory reseted phone but problem still there.
When making a call screen goes blank and I can't turn it on after that, can't hang up, can't do anything.
Is there any1 else experiencing this bug?
Maybe your sensor on the front is jacked up?
Nop had it tested in other app.

Try to factory reset it again, or you could investigate if any app you have is causing it.
Hahahahahahahahahahahhah GOT IT.
YOU GUYS WON'T BELIEVE WHAT IT WAS!!!!!!
It's my new tempered glass screen protector..removed it and now works perfect...

Because I recently purchased one from Xtremeguard and it's currently being delivered to me. I sent an email to them and they claim that the tempered glass does not block the proximity sensor. I've read on another forum that this specific brand provided similar problems to what you experienced.
and also the missed touches on screen gets worse with tempered glass
nillkin tempered glass here without any issues. Can you post up a picture of your screen protector? Maybe the cutouts are different. I also had no idea on the screen protector that was installed by LG (which in different markets may have logos, but mine was clear, even had a tab to remove it, but left it on until I got my tempered glass one)
It's the sensor, not the protector

I have the same problem with my LG V10. I have NOTHING blocking the sensor. I just discovered that light level alone will cause the black screen.
I tried calling with a bright light overhead. No black screen.
I caused a shadow over the sensor (NOT blocking it, just a shadow). The screen went black. The same thing happened when I was in the T-Mobile store, with no block and no shadow.
Guys, I had the exact problem. And you DO NOT have to remove your protector, you just need to recalibrate the sensor. There is a tutorial, use the Search.
Did anyone manage to do this with Verizon?

Screen unlocking during calls

I got my View 20 recently and I'm having a problem with screen unlocking during calls. The speaker is roughly at a 45 degree angle and I think so is the proximity sensor. And it only recognizes objects that are very very close to it. In other words unless I have the phone pressed against my ear (not touching or close to, actually pressed against it) it unlocks the screen during call, the notification panel opens up and I activate things I don't wanna activate... Once just as a test I made a short phone call and I made sure to keep the top of the phone pressed against my ear at all times and somehow it still unlocked the screen and the notification panel was open...
To make things even worse, because the angle is so weird I have to keep the phone lower than I'm used to (or comfortable with) and the bottom of the phone is way below my mouth which is bad too.
It's a real issue and I don't know what I can do to fix it. Please help me.
(And just as a side note I can't believe no one has mentioned this in ANY review - even if the screen doesn't unlock for them, the angle of the speaker is still weird and to hear the sound well you have to hold the phone lower than normally. It IS significant and I have no idea why this hasn't come up in any review or opinion on the internet).

Do you have any case on the phone? Sometimes the case may interfere with ur proximity sensor and cause these issues.
Nope, none.
I have the same problem. But without solution yet.

Or maybe I just a defective phone? Could other owners of View 20 say if their phones are fine?
It's not a fault... The sensor is on the top of the device instead of the front/screen so it happens... Poor design choice that's all.
Same problem noticed since day 1, found also no solution yet.
very disappointing.

Yeah, except it's not pointed upwards, it's pointed at a roughly 45 degree angle, so it should still work more or less fine. Maybe less fine than forward-facing sensor but still ok. And I doubt that thousands (millions?) of people who bought that phone experience the same problems and no one has mentioned it yet.
I'm on the second view 20... Sent first one back as I didn't like the warmish tint on the screen... Second one has a much cooler tone... Both do this with calls and my brother also has a view 20 and he has the same issue... Mine was from Amazon and he got his from carphone warehouse.

Protect Glass

After using protective glass, the finger reader is unusable. Does anyone have the same problem?
I am using screen guard and it has a hole at finger print scanner. It is annoying and seller told it is for finger print scanner to work. If your screen protector doesn't have hole at scanning area, it may not work.
I don't use finger print scanner so don't know if the feature is working really with or without protection guard.
What about pre applied one? Which came on applied with phone.

After applying we have to re do the fingerprint addition process, if your tempered glass supports it.
I got tempered glass applied from the store coated me around 400, but the in display fingerprint scanner works.

Same here, it's mostly just a case of leaving your finger in the right place for long enough rather than getting impatient with it.

Well - on my new (2 days old) A70 I have 3mk FlexibleGlass (type of hybridglass) - no problems with fingerprints scanner at all since may through july and september rom builds .

Take the update, it helped alot. Enable touch sensitivity to the highest level. And set your most common fingerprint up two or three times.

Yep , but there are only 3 slots for fingerprints in A70 - don't know if it is a bug or feature - so, no space for too many fingerprints ?

Question Help! Fingerprint sensor replacement. Where to buy a part?

Just got accidental damage to my Pixel 6 Pro's screen and fingerprint sensor. Screen replacement isn't a problem but I can't find fingerprint sensor anywhere. Please help!
Maybe ebay. That's sounds like a hard impact, the mobo may be damaged as well. BGA chipsets don't take high G loading or board flexing insults well.
Hmmm, isn't the fingerprint reader part of the replacement screen (see the disassembly video) ?

Nothing wrong with anything but fingerprint sensor. It was damaged during screen replacement. It's very fragile and glued to the screen quite strongly. Checked eBay, Aliexpress already. Found nothing.

No, it isn't. Screens are sold without fingerprint sensor. Other, more clever smartphone makers don't attach fingerprint scanner to screen. Google approach is unique, even where thereis no need in it.

Try connecting (or searching for) Google for an OEM parts distributor (that will be fun).
If the phone works as is less the sensor use as such until you can get the part.
That's a raw deal...

Can't see the way to ask Google itself for help finding the part. There is no such option. Using this phone without fingerprint with missing face unlock is a pain. Suggesting to sell the phone cheap ASAP since it still has some value. Pretty sure it will be a high demand for this part for the same reason. I see the listing for the Pixel 6 Pro with the same issue on eBay already.

And this is very concerning. The phone is on the market for quite a while but replacement parts are barely available. Usually Aliexpress is getting smartphones replacement parts at the day of release but not this time around . Something is very wrong.

Question Hard time with fingerprint

Just bought S22 6.1" and fingerprint scanner is failing a lot with me. My S21 I don't even have to press hard and it is rare to miss with it.
I have model S901E with snapdragon, on AVA7.
Same phone but what's S901E - isn't that 1U? Anyways, the fp sensor is perfectly accurate on mine, an instant reaction.

Good to know, never saw the E on galaxy models before. And you have problems the fp sensor? I hated it on S10 models but that was different sensor, the current one worked fine on my S21 and now the S22 sensor is perfect too. I registered twice my right hand thumb and 2x right index finger they both work with even a short touch.

On my S21, it just needed a light touch with a very light press. But now I realize one thing. I did not pill off the screen protector that came with S22. In fact, it is not a screen protector for daily use. Do you think it is the reason fingerprint is worse than s10

yes, that plastic foil wrap won't let the scanner read your fingerprint. It's not optical but rather like a mini radar scanning the print ridges on your finger tip.

S21 came with screen protector, but a real one. Simple but it did the job. And fingerprint worked perfectly. I thought I could keep this upper plastic that came with s22 until my screen protector was delivered. I'm gonna try without it.
I exchanged my S22 yesterday because the fingerprint sensor was failing so often (plus random, 20 minute long network disconnects). I lost my preorder storage upgrade, but the new device works perfectly.
have you tried to remove current fingerprints and add new ones?

With a screen protector, it failed every time for me.
I'm using the Omotion that I bought on Amazon.
I did try removing the current prints and adding new ones with little luck. In this case it will work 1 in 10 tries if you press very hard.
Remove screen protector, works perfectly.
As I'm looking for another screen protector, I'm checking reviews for any comments on "fingerprint"

Go with the Amfilm "Hybrid" glass. Glass still works poorly on Ultrasonic sensors, so you want a TPU or "hybrid" (semi-hard plastic) protector to have it work properly. These are the same material (and IMHO better quality) than the Zagg protectors they're trying to charge $50 for.
Also you can increase the touch sensitivity. My scanner is hit or miss with my glass protector but I'd take protection over the fingerprint scanner. I wish Samsung went optical and this wouldn't be an issue.
