Hi
Question.
I made my own 9.3.28 rom using OSDN script. https://github.com/XiaomiFirmwareUpdater/xiaomi-flashable-firmware-creator.py/releases
My Whyred has ARB 3 (Fastboot getvar anti). Since the beginning, i only flashed 8.1 firmware-less roms using TWRP.
I saw Whyred has Pie update. Will it mess my Whyred if i directly flash Pie firmware less rom ?
I did it on my Platina (Mi 8 Lite), and i had bootloop during 1st boot (crashing processus).
Platina is not affected by ARB. Then i took Fastboot Pie rom and flashed it, reinstalled latest Pie TWRP, magisk root, and everything's ok.
If i crash my Whyred with firmware-less Pie zip, i also need to reflash fastboot Pie rom, and kill my virgin ARB ?
So, it's impossible to update to Pie without destroying ARB 3 ?
So, i'm stuck on 8.1 ?
Use non arb FW update
There's pie beta firmware (9.3.28)
https://osdn.net/projects/xiaomifirmwareupdater/storage/non-arb/Developer/9.3.28/whyred/
Does using non-arb FW really works for updating from oreo to pie to maintain ARB 3?
because it didn't works for me (miui pie global stable with fwless rom & non-arb made using https://github.com/XiaomiFirmwareUpdater/xiaomi-flashable-firmware-creator.py/releases )
I experimenting on this but got bricked because unproper recovery installed.
If you want to experiment, make sure to install proper recovery and disable OTA survival.
Update:
Stable update has been released.
Xiaomi announced they’ll upgrade the Redmi Note 8 Pro to Android 11 late last year. They have gone to update the global models, leaving the European variants waiting for some time now. Of course, the update was going to arrive, and perhaps, the company needed some time to address a few issues before the European release. Meanwhile, as expected, the Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 update in Europe is now available to select users.
The Redmi Note 8 Pro is receiving both Android 11 and MIUI 12.5 simultaneously, unlike the Redmi Note 8, that’s currently pushing Android 11 only. It is seeding with a version number – MIUI 12.5.2.0 RGGEUXM – and weighs in at 2.2GB. Coming along with the update are the features of the new MIUI OS to improve device performance and address some problems introduced by MIUI 12. Interestingly, the Android security patch level is pushed to July 2021 to increase system security and stability.
Of course, the update brings a stable MIUI based on Android 11, meaning that you get the features of the current Android OS as well. However, some known bugs are affecting all MIUI Android 11 builds. They include third-party launcher compatibility, ugly square chat bubbles, floating windows conflicting with keyboards, glitches, and lags. Luckily, you can improve the device’s performance by performing a factory reset after upgrading. However, that won’t fix the problems with the launcher as you need to revert to the MIUI system launcher.
Again, the Redmi Note 8 Pro Android 11-based MIUI 12.5 is a limited rollout. Those in Indonesia are also receiving the build with a version number – MIUI 12.5.2.0 RGGIDXM. It brings features of the new MIUI OS and a stable MIUI based on Android 11. Also, the Android security patch level has been pushed to July 2021 to increase system security and stability.

Cross finger though, the Redmi Note 8 had already Chinese stable A11 since Feb 2021, per today it hasn't got any global A11.

A11 will most likely be the last official update for this device, wouldn't be surprised if it will take till end of this year.
This works in global variant via TWRP, but I don't recommend it. I could not find a way to install Google Play, even though i tested a lot of tutorials, magisk, appstores.

not really since they re-release the RN8 variant....
might be A12 like the case with RN5
Global variant finally.... MIUI12.5 A11 Global sucks no fastboot so I guess you have to flash some MIUI version and then update, coming from POSP and not happy about it but oh well. Will post after I flash it and see how it is. Probably end up back on a custom ROM dislike MIUI bloated bs....

Stock MIUI is horrendous. Bloatware, permissions etc. I can't stand it.
I'm on PE+ 11 but would prefer an official LineageOS release (no such thing available for now). I would also consider a xiaomi.eu release but they dropped support for Begonia/Begoniain.
Compass.

seems it's for Mi Pilot only.... that's why it's bootloop
Actually, it's bootlooping due to custom recovery..
I just did it like this:
- Download MIUI 12.5 Global from xiaomifirmwareupdater
- Reboot to recovery
- Flash from recovery
- Reboot to bootloader (using adb reboot bootloader or just boot to fastboot mode by rebooting and holding down the VOL_DN)
- Flash stock recovery (get it from xiaomifirmwareupdater, download previous ROM and extract recovery.img)
And with above I'm currently running MIUI 12.5.1. It's basically updated, I've lost no data.
I'm gonna dig in tomorrow for flashing custom recovery if i can find some working with this..
EDIT:
It may be that in order for TWRP to work on this ROM, a full wipe will need to be performed.
It's bootlooping due to patched vbmeta (vbmeta flashed with --disable-verity --disable-verification). So I'm unable to get TWRP to work. We might need some developer assistance ?

I got it to install no issues I had to flash whatever the latest A10 MIUI ROM is from fastboot then it updated to 12.5 on its own. I am back on POSP I really just hate MIUI its bloated and slow, not worth the time or effort to be honest IMHO

Is Google Assistant and Android Auto working fine on that ROM? I've tried couple of A11 custom ROMs, they have issues with either GA or AA or both.

So my suspicion confirmed coz the old ROM zip got recovery image but the A11 ROM doesn't have so many files in it including recovery.img.
Thanks for confirmation & guide....
So, basically there's no way to root it for noW?

but without patching vbmeta, it'll just bootloop even with A11 ver TWRP, right?
one more question: can you activate Google Discovery feed on MIUI12.5 or it's stuck on App Vault?

Work perfect and yes I feel ya I HATE that Google assistant doesn't work on most custom roms. Let me say this POSP is updated weekly, stable, smooth and everything works. Everything. My phone will like die with this time installed. Hoping the maintainer does A12 soon.
My device were running MIUI 12.5 and it was downgraded to MIUI 11 Android 10 stock rom for some sort of reason. Now I'm having problem upgrading my device via OTA and it always says the "The current system is using the latest version" which is KLEN2002240OS00DPX. I tried checking the update server using *#*#1027#*#* and I found out that it was set to OTA Test Server. I tried changing it to Formal OTA Server but still it reverts back to Test OTA Server that's why maybe I can't get any update.
Bootloader: Unlocked
Device: BlackShark 3 Global (8GB / 128ROM)
Model: SHARK KLE-H0
convert it before in the stable global because the one you have is the global beta, on android 10 you can do everything, with android 11 you risk the brick of imei & baseband

Hi,
using a complete stock Redmi Note 8 Pro. Installed with FW 12.0.5.0 (A10) Stable. All stock nothing changed or unlocked.
It is not possible to update this phone to any newer FW Release
Tried all existing newer Releases (12.5.2.0, 12.5.3.0, .... 12.5.7.0). It is EU Model.
Error Message:
Sorry, flash to this stable Version is not allowed.
Miui Version: MIUI Global 12.0.6 Stable - 12.0.6.0 (QGGEUXM)
Found some other People with the same issue on german Forum, but nobody found a solution for this. Maybe here is someone who can help.
Just unlock bootloader and lock it with newer version if you want...
And there're some tricks on YouTube that can flash recovery file with that updater. Try to find it
I am currently running Xiaomi Eu version 13.0.9 stable with twrp 3.6.2_12-pocof3_v6.3_a12.
I have issues with this build and I noticed lots of reports with latest Xiaomi EU updates having many bugs so don't really want to update.
Can I switch without data loss to official Miui? (my bank is annoying dont want to go through hassle of phoning them to re setup)
thanks in advance

Only if you flash the same version or higher.
I just ran the latest weekly and it works like a charm , your twrp should be 3.7 skkkk and you can install miui 14 recovery global through twrp but I would suggest a format and not a dirty flash since your going from a china rom to a global have funnnn!
There are 2 TWRP(SKK):
1/twrp-3.7.0_12-v7.2_A12-alioth
2/twrp-3.7.0_12-v7.2_A13-alioth
His system is currently in A12, he can continue with version 3.6.2 12 or update it to 3.7.A12 and flash an A13 recovery rom.
Or use Miflash *** and lock the bootloader, which will avoid rooting + magisk to have the playstore certified.
***Erases your data and only if not K40.

Like you want.
Won't re-lock and you will need to install TWRP A13 after flash.
I'd reckon you try a fresh install on Xiaomi.EU's latest rom first before flashing to the Global version.
Most bugs and glitches are fixed with a fresh install of Xiaomi.EU.
By fresh install I mean use XiaoMiFlash (Fastboot) to the latest official China stable rom (14.0.5.0), then wipe all via TWRP and then Fastboot flash the latest Xiaomi.EU rom (14.0.5.0).
For me; Global rom is too bloat, has too many features missing and less smooth versus Xiaomi.EU's rom.

Not much use since for a first installation you must format the data with the Twrp or use the first install.bat script included in the folder extracted from the zip.
Right, my bad. Clean install is the way to go though, Devs at Xiaomi.EU always recommended this to me versus dirty flash.
I clean flash with every major update, except from 12 to 12.5 (no Android change) with Xiaomi.EU's roms.

Yep, for the change of Miui or Android version, it is preferable to do a clean flash or mandatory in the event of a downgrade (weekly to stable).
