Just bought a 2010 gti.. which I'm loving.. I am excited to have a car with Bluetooth..
I got it paired to the Bluetooth system OK, it plays music as tho I had a headphone jack plugged in..
It will play call audio over the speakers and evidently the microphone, where ever it is, is working because people can hear me..
BUT.. I still need to use my phone to make or answer a call.. I've seen in videos people are using the car to browse their contact list and make a call.. I do not appear to have this functionality.. just curious if I could hit the jackpot here with someone who has had this problem
I'm running a custom ICS touchwiz ROM
Tia if anyone has any info on this

Hi! I have a 2012 GTI and just switched 2 days ago from iPhone 4s to GS3. The way I did it I made sure to be in neutral (manual transmission), paired the phone and let it sync address book and everything worked. I suggest you remove the phone from the car and car from phone and try everything again. Im running Blazer ROM[9/23/12][Sup?][LG8][v1.9]
Nice! I knew someone on xda would have one.. do your settings look like this?
The phone audio troubles Me... I feel like it should reference contacts in some way..

In 2010, VW had multiple BT systems. Unfortunately, it sounds like you have the lesser of the 3 (as do I).
I forget the model #'s, but basically there's a top end version that's part of the NAV system which uses the navscreen nicely. Then there is a version used in all the marketing materials that has steering wheel controls and uses the cluster info display for your address book / caller ID. THEN -- there's the real low end, crummy one that just interfaces as an audio cut in with no other integration. This is what I have. You still need your phone for all features except picking up a call (the button on the ceiling can begin / end a call). Lame.
I think your build date determined which BT system is in your car. The good (middle) system was only for very early units. IIRC, there was a class action lawsuit against VW about this - I opted in, still waiting for my check...

That is generally covered by media. For example, my 2009 Ford focus has a similar system (SYNC) which will download contacts into a small address book and save them for me but doesn't reference contacts in the bluetooth settings area.

i am bumping my crazy old thread with another VW GS3 question if anyone has any info:
Based on the reply i got, i definately have the crappy bluetooth.. its just audio output, and it sucks, i still have to use the phone to navigate through music.
the car came with a iOS adaptor.. which does me no good..
i've done some research and have found this: http://www.amazon.com/Newest-interface-Adapter-Volkswagen-Touareg/dp/B004I9CXHW/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370563911&sr=8-1&keywords=vw+micro+usb

i would have a micro USB adaptor that would plug into the propietary mmi port..
our phones don't use USB mass storage however.. has anyone tried this? looking for experiences before i pull the trigger if anyone can help.

Yes the bluetooth sounds horrible
Here's what I did, and it works beautifully..
I picked up the MDI USB adapter, fed a 6ft USB>micro USB through the center console to the dash where I fashioned a phone 'mount' from my Otterbox belt clip.
I noticed it was kind of clunky, and very slow (would take up to a minute for the Premium 8 to even recognize the S3) using the stupid MMS mode. It did work however. I did some research on enabling USB mass storage and found this app: SG USB Mass Storage Enablerhttps://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mohammadag.samsungusbmassstorageenabler&feature=search_result#?t=W251bGwsMSwyLDEsImNvbS5tb2hhbW1hZGFnLnNhbXN1bmd1c2JtYXNzc3RvcmFnZWVuYWJsZXIiXQ.. It does require root, with Busy Box installed. Now the P8 recognizes the phone in seconds, and is very fast. The app is also nice for syncing content (more on that later). If your phone reboots, you will need to re-enable UMS. I handled that thru Tasker so each time the phone reboots it executes the shortcut that enables UMS. Works seamlessly.. Please note that UMS ONLY works on the S3's external micro sd card. It works great on my S3 but YMMV..
Now as far as syncing content I wanted something as close to iTunes as possible. Part of my mission was to divorce myself from all things "i"- iTunes, iPod, and of course iPhone. But iTunes has always worked well for me in terms of syncing content. Did some more research and found a nice music manager called 'MusicBee'- http://getmusicbee.com/ With UMS enabled it syncs my content very fast.. MMS not so much. On a side note, why they got rid of UMS is beyond me..
Now to handle playlists, and since I primarily use playlists in the car, I use MusicBee to sync those to a standard SD card and plug that into the slot on the P8. Don't use anything larger than 32gig as the P8 only 'sees' 500 folders. There is no limitation when using the MDI port so this limitation doesn't apply the the phone's storage.
One thing I want to mention is that if you want to be able to shuffle across all your folders you need to make sure to put a random MP3 in the root of your devices SD card. Start playing that song first, hit mix and you can shuffle across your entire library.
All browsing is done via the headunit just as you would an iPod. All tag info is displayed on the headunit as well, with the only exception being you can only browse the content of the phone's micro SD- so folder structure is important. The nice thing about this is that you can run other apps (I run Torque) since the MDI is only sees the S3 as a storage device, so hands free calling still works.
It also keeps the phone charged
Here's a few pics of my setup:

first of all, thanks a TON for the detailed reply..
based on your advice i went ahead and grabbed http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004I9CXHW/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
and a USB http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B001QE03GK/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
i run a rooted rom so grabbed busybox and USB MS enabler.. we'll see how it goes! if not, im out 20 bucks.. whatever haha.. either way its very nice to here from someone with the same set up
Grabbed this too as insurance, at least it will sound better than before
i did also find a 16gb sd i had laying around so i threw that in the car yesterday, but my main device for music is my phone so it would be nice to have everything in one place. Even that is very nice to be able to navigate on the head unit as opposed to scrolling through my phone whilst bluetoothing.
if i may be so bold, are you using something like an OBD2 bluetooth adaptor for that torque app? do you have any recomendations for picking 1 vs the other? would be great to hear from a mk6 owner. there are a ton to choose from http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_3_11?url=search-alias%3Delectronics&field-keywords=bluetooth+obd2&sprefix=bluetooth+o%2Celectronics%2C253

I've searched around to different forums and haven't really gotten a clear answer for this. I used to be able to play my music from my iphone simply by connecting it to my usb plug in my car. the sgs3 doesn't do that. I've read it is because it uses mtp instead of ums for data transfer now because there are no partitions in the drive. Supposedly there is a way to use ums by an app that was created for the i9300, but I have the US sprint model and I wonder if that would work on my phone. Plus I would like to know if I use this app, will it even solve my problem? Will I be able to listen to my tunes in my car without connecting the audio aux plug?
Thanks in advance,

I would like to know this too, My car radio doesn't have bluetooth support, so it's not an option for me and it doesn't work when I plug the phone in. This is the only thing keeping me from getting rid of my iPod!
I'm curious about this too. I just bought a Sony for its Sirius capabilities and it has Pandora support but I would like to listen to my phone's MP3 catalog too.
sent through the third galaxy
I just replaced my car stereo thinking I could use the USB in, I couldn't get it to work by default.
I'm left with using the aux in, which is nothing more than a stop gap solution.
Hoping that I can get it to work with usb too
Edit :
I forgot to try system >accessories >usb audio
I'll try when I get out of work.
2nd edit :
Didn't work
Sort of the same issue, compounded.
I have a 2012 volt and an S3/I9300 international version. I can't get it to play audio in my car for love or money. No roms, just stock...but bluetooth and auxiliary fails. Bluetooth says it doesn't recognize it, auxiliary jack says everything is hooked up but I get no sound.
I also have a bluetooth soundbar in my home; the phone connects fine but the sound comes through the phone still rather than the speakers. I feel like I'm missing something pretty basic here. Any help/guidance would be much appreciated. If there is an app that will fix this I'm totally game. Also anything to get rid of the samsun apps login that is constantly annoying me, or the German news sides that are preinstalled.
I'm a wreck lol. Love the phone otherwise though (other than ATT delivering my text messages roughly 72 hours after they were sent...all at once, from 3 to 6 am, like clockwork. I switched to t-mobile).
Wrong section dude, you want the international forums, this one is for the sprint variant only
I would suggest searching for usb input on the stereo and making sure its selected as the playback device. My ford fusion has bluetooth and usb but when i use usb i have to select it on the stereo to actually play music from my phone. Hope this helps...:good:
There is a new line of Kenwood car stereos ("DNN" series) including the DNN990HD and DNN790HD.
They are running Android and another thread suggests it's running the following version:
Code:
Kernal version
3.0.8-tcc
[email protected] #2
Mon apr 22 16:36:28 jst 2013
Build number
Binks_v8-userdebug 4.0.4 IMM76D eng.root.20130422 test-keys
How can I get started with trying to install the Play Store and/or root the device?
There are two female USB ports on the back but I don't think it has any other ports.
Should I purchase a USB male-to-male cable and try to connect both ports to my PC? ...and then run "adb devices" ?
Can anybody give me any other tips?
I did notice that there're is a 4 pin connector hidden under a clear plactic tab on the right side of the unit. It is either a J-tag or a proprietary USB connector. The older models with WindowsCE core had a 6 pin connector under the same plastic tab. I have a feeling that's a clue to adb access. On a side note, I tried almosst every possible button press/hold combo upon reset/boot to try to find recovery with no success. And while the android version is build 8 the Kenwood build is version is 1.0. I have a feeling that the only other way in will involve modifying an update file.

Thanks for the information!
Do you have a picture of the connector?
USB is 4 pins so maybe it's just a different connector on one side of the cable? (to prevent people from "easily" plugging in a USB A-to-B cable)
...or maybe it's a serial port requiring a USB-to-RS232 cable? (like what is used to update the Metra Axxess ASWX-1 steering wheel adapter)
Here is a photo of the connector as well as a couple of other photos. If it is a rs232 like the flashlogic or xk loader, then it's essentially J-tag. Been a while since I did any J-tag modding though. I also tried plugging in the flashlogic/idatalink loader to the back plug and got nowhere as well. So far, I've found that you can plug in a usb keyboard and mouse for full easy control. I tried to use the browser for a file tree listing but it returns nothing. I was unable to figure out the mount path for the usb flash when connected, or I otherwise would have tried to run/install an apk directly. I also accessed gmail via the web window, changed the UA string for desktop, and tried to download an apk I sent myself with no luck, download showed up, but never started.
So I just downloaded the Google play store.apk file online (did a google search and downloaded the APK) and then uploaded the apk to my dropbox account. I then opened the browser in the DNN990HD and went to the dropbox.com website, logged in, and downloaded the apk file. It downloaded fine and I then launched it. I then got an error message saying "Install Blocked For security, your tablet is set to block installation of applications not obtained from Android Market."
Normally this is no big deal because you just go to applications and allow unknown sources to be installed on your device but Kenwood has hidden or gotten rid of that menu item so I can't access it. It looks like the next step is to figure out some sort of update.zip file but I haven't figured out if there's a way to get into the android bootloader on this thing.
Any other ideas out there yet?
I don't have anything to contribute, but I really, really hope some of the XDA guys can figure this out...
yeah this is a sweet radio, Installed it last weekend and love it,I used the Idatalink Maestro RR and i have all of my vehicle info on the radio screen it a sweet set-up, would be nice to install a regular gmail app and the play store, i`m wonder how much processor it has to run all of this stuff already. I wish I could figure out how to keep the Sirius replay off permanently.
Need to find a developer and probably enough donations raised to accomplish this.
I just put one of these in my car, it's pretty nice. I already noticed a force close on the launcher, lol. It only happened once I have since updated the BT firmware & software. What pisses me off it was suppose to have spotify support out of the box and I can't find any information on it really. I'm hoping this gets added with an update.I also wish they would have included OTA update support, you have to download it manually from kenwood & use a flashdrive.
DNN990HD Bluetooth Pairing
Has anyone had problems pairing their device with the DNN990HD? After installing the Kenwood firmware update I can't get the Pandora app on the head unit to connect to my Galaxy S4. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
So Could we maybe use this "USB UPDATE" method to gain install or root access?
I just installed one of these as well. Love it. I'd be willing to try almost anything to help get it rooted and have the Play store on it.
Scott
Okay guys I just tried editing the update for the radio by injecting the play story and a couple other apps I like into the update itself. The file structure is incredibly similar to a phone update. Unfortunately it did not go well. As it was updating it started to work but then the dead android icon appeared like a E: signature verification failed but it did not say that. I am only an amateur but it seems like we need a custom recovery or a way to adb either wired or maybe by wifi? I'm here to learn too so please any input would help.
Looking for hack into DNN 990 also... plus bluetooth issues...
LOL glad to see my favorite forums are on the DNN990 mission! Any progress on full access/root?
As well, I am having issues using bluetooth media with the device. The phone option works great (although it took several attempts to pair - those having trouble with this might like to know the unit won't pair if you have media source set to Pandora). The problem I'm having is with Ankidroid - I can't get the unit to broadcast my flashcards using text-to-speech, even though my present setup works on other hands-free devices. I tried playing audio file over bluetooth as well and it wouldn't work either. Any solutions?
Thanks!

Check and see what firmware version you are running. They released an update on the 31st of last month that corrected such issues. Ver 1.2.0 is the most recent release. If you need to download it check out the kenwood website and look under the support tab -> car entertainment for Firmware updates.

I think we're looking for Google Play store - so we can install apps - but we're locked out. I asked Kenwood tech support if there are plans for more apps and/or the Play store and the guy said not at this time. So any help to break in would be greatly appreciated!

Did the firmware and the bluetooth update and so far no joy. However I'm now having a problem getting text-to-speech working on Ankidroid minus the bluetooth so must fix this problem first.
I wonder what processor runs this unit. If we can find it out by software or opening the unit, it might give us some clues on how we could root it and unleash it's full potential.

Check BT settings on the deck, pandora has to be enabled. Took me a few minutes to figure it out the first time I set it up. It works great though, the BT control is fantastic don't even have to open the app. It just works. I will say after having the deck now for a few weeks, it's extremely nice however my HTC one is a much more powerful machine. You could put a top of line 4G ipad in would be a much more power machine. The resolution on the deck sucks and I don't wanna call it laggy but it's certainly not as fast as my HTC One. Granted a tablet is not made to control audio in a car. I'm sure a lot of the price take is the R&D that went into it, also certain car only functions a phone can't do. Like SiriusXM that you can pause from a satellite feed. Backup camera support which is nice which even works when the deck isn't booted yet. HD radio is absolutely fantastic. I never listed to the radio in the past but all my pre-sets now are HD only. Those thinking about the deck, yes it's cool but it's not the worth the money they are asking for it in my opinion. The built in Garmin Nav is pretty good, like I said a lot of the price tag your paying for the R&D that went into the thing since it's made specifically to work in a car but at the end of the day it's just android.

Look around in the settings, I wanna say I saw some where to shut it off by default. It's actually kinda a neat feature but can be annoying at times. One thing that pisses me off is when scrolling through channel list, it doesn't show what is currently playing. I had an old Sirius radio with boombox attachment that it use to do that years ago. Also changing your preset banks is a hassle if you don't have list view up which I also find annoying. I'm getting use to it though.
RE: Bluetooth
Thanks for the reply. Yes, I think I may have caused the problem when I rooted my Galaxy S 4 and flashed a new rom. I have working now. I have agree with you on the lagging of the head unit. The could have put a little faster processor in the unit, especially for what they cost.

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I think I may have caused the problem when I rooted my Galaxy S 4 and flashed a new rom. I have working now. I have agree with you on the lagging of the head unit. The could have put a little faster processor in the unit, especially for what they cost.

For sure but it's still a great deck hopefully a few more firmware updates will get it even smoother. I have a paid Pandora subscription but there is no way to select bit rate but it sounds decent in the car. I use a rooted htc one with hacked apk and the unlimited skips works perfectly even through the deck which is great. Only bottleneck is sprints net zero 3g network. LTE isn't done yet in my area but it's getting there. Pandora is pretty fast over bt to the deck on LTE.

I have a FTV2 rooted to 5.2.1.1 using the guide at atvnews. I have installed Kodi and configured it to my liking. Im using HDMI cable to connect it to directly to my Harman Kardon AVR-154 input HDMI3. I have used this port for other devices and I can get surround sound so I know the port works on the receiver. Im also running Kodi 16.2 Jarvis.
Anyhow, I cant get digital audio to come through my speakers from the AVR unit. I have sound coming out from the TV. My TV is a Samsung unit, it has CEC enabled and it locates the FTV2 unit.
I have logged into Kodi and enabled pass through and enabled digital receiver option as well. On my receiver, I have HDMI3 selected and regardless of the digital output option selected, there is no audio coming out of my speakers when a movie is being played. Is there any option or setting I can change to get this working?
When I checked audio on the FTV its set to Digital Output through HDMI.
Finally, another issue I am having is the original remote not being able to be paired with my FTV2. Im using a USB hub, so I have a physical keyboard connected to it and am able to navigate through the menus this way but would like to have my original remote working. I have tried the system options method and its not working.
Any suggestions to my two issues?
google firetv kodi sorround (first result on xda, even has pictures)
google firetv pair remote (look for the reddit thread)
Also, don't expect anyone to care that you connected your FireTV to HDMI port 3, and that your AV reciever outputs "digital audio" to your speakers (doubt it), or which Harman Cardon receiver you bought. Chances are you will not find anyone in here with the same setup to be able to replicate your issue, so you have to start thinking and breaking down the issue yourself.
The internet is not a free support tech, that will stand in you living room and mutter "have you tried port 2 instead":
It s the "can someone fix my home router" issue all over again. Connectivity issues are hard to "phone in solutions for". It is your responsibility to try to understand and solve them, not ours. Never expect custom made solutions for your equipment, your port configuration, and so on. It's not going to happen.
Other people troubleshooting your issue (I'm refering to the xda thread I'm having you look up yourself) have installed different Kodi builds (SMPC) and even switched AVRs to pinpoint the issue. Maybe try some of that yourself. (After reading the thread I am refering to).
Also - use google. Keep questions at least somewhat concise. Show that you have tried to tackle the issue yourself (including google). If your remote turns out to be broken (in the reddit thread you find the button press thats needed to put it in pair mode), don't ask XDA for help, thats a product support question...
ALso, nothing of what you describe has anything to do with being rooted, so the title is misleading.
Hopefully a bit more useful then the post above.. (If thats all you had to say, then, why bother responding in the first place?)
1) To the Remote.... AFAIK the Remote that comes with the AFTV2 is some 802.11 WiFi job that only works with the AFTV(2)? It is NOT to be confused with the older Bluetooth Remote (AFTV1), which as I understand does not have the Mic on it. Sadly I have the latter Device, and the way to pair it is to depress the Home Button for 20s. Yes the on-screen instructions say 10s but in my experience that's BS! You'll know that the Remote is pairing when the throbbing white light turns yellow-brown. Before going back to white, and disappearing all together.
As to your Audio Setup... Have you made sure to go into System > Settings > System (Making sure to have activated the 'Expert' Settings level), then; Audio output
Number of Channels - 2.0 (Yes this must always be 2.0 for everything to work!)
Enable Passthrough (Obviously)
Dolby Digital (AC3) capable, and
-Enable Dolby Digital (AC3) Transcoding
This may be the cause of your problems. In short you have to enable this IF you have an older Amp such as myself which does NOT support PCM Multichannel Audio. (Something which is AFAIK only available over HDMI e.g. Dolby HD & DTS-MA*), you will NOT want to enable this. Otherwise if you have to use the older S/PDIF (Optical or, Coaxial), to drive your Amp, in my case though my TVs ARC (Audio Return Channel), e.g. the S/PDIF Out is on the TV. Then you must enable it their.
One other note here Depending on your TV, you may also have to troll though the Audio Settings there and, locate the Digital Out Setting (Or whatever passes for that Setting on your set.), and either set it to PCM, or Compressed. In my setup it has to be compressed for DD/DTS to work
DTS capable receiver should probably also be ticked.
Now to test it...
I would recommend you find the Big Buck Bunny Add-on, since it covers a broader range of parameters. Resolution, 3D, Audio Formats which seems to be your chief concern here. I could also just toss out their that IceFilms also has mostly 720p HD Shows, and Movies as well and more often then not also in DD5.1. though the latter is less shady then the former, even if it's less practical. But, unless you have some idea of where to find HQ Stuff with DD5.1 or DTS, then chances are it will certainly only be an AAC 2.0 Stream. Which of course will never be in Surround.
*If your AMP for NOT support either DD-HD, or DTS-MA, then it may be safe to assume that it also doesn't not support PCM Audio either. In which case you'll need to readjust your settings to use the S/PDIF settings instead.
Congratulations, you just spelled out the entire posting I suggested the OP googles for once again, in regards to the correct pass through settings.
(To be fair, you went into more detail regarding PCM Audio vs other Kodi Audio options, than even the original thread.)
You spelled out that to re-pair the remote, you have to press the home key for 20 seconds. Which the OP would have learned by googling firetv pair remote, in five seconds on their own.
I do not assume the OP is struggling with a Fire TV 1 remote, also - the AFTV2 doesn't have a SPDIF out anymore.
To be honest, somewhere after "I rooted my Fire TV", "I put the cable in HDMI 3", and "my Harman Kardon sends digital audio to my speakers" - I lost all patience with the a guy that needed Kodi settings he could have googled in 5 minutes and an instruction on how to get the remote into pairing mode, which he could have googled in 5 seconds.
You are a better man than I am - I would have liked to see the OP go the long route to get to the same answers...
---
Two other nice things to learn from this:
- Make the posting title descriptive, and not the first thing thats comes to your mind, or a bait and switch that ultimately has nothing to do with your question. Other people might search this forum for the same issue - and a descriptive title helps them not to have to ask the question again, and that means that we don't have to answer it again - because presumably most people can be asked to google an issue, before resorting to a personal help request.
- Show that you took some effort to pinpoint the issue first. If your request starts with a description of your living room, something urks me as being wrong. Don't name your AV reciever, but take the time to learn which audio standards it supports. Don't state, that the Fire TV hangs on HDMI 3 - but take the time to test the other HDMI ports so you can exclude that one as the cause of your problems..
Basics.
Also - leaning how to do basic troubleshooting using google on your own - isn't necessarily a bad thing, because the next time you won't be describing your livingroom to people on the internet again, if you should have a different issue.
Don't assume, we like doing the legwork (what audio standards does his receiver support, yes - lets play Amazon support and tell him how to pair his remote (because of course you didn't consult the manual (page 43 btw: https://s3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com/customerdocumentation/Amazon_Fire_TV_User_Guide.pdf ) or google).
I did use google and even reddit and was recommended to come here by someone.
I wasnt looking for a step-by-step guide, merely if someone else had a similar issue. By pointing out my hardware, perhaps someone ran into a different issue with the same make or even model of AVR unit. But I was simply hoping for some direction or what I could check and test for.
I simply asked for insight or what I could look for, not to have a reply that really wasnt necessary.
And by mentioning root and HDMI 3, you set the perimeters to make sure that, ...
Its ok - you won.
Someone did provide a detailed solution.
Just understand, that if you had found the surround sound settings topic before, Ichijoes explanation would now possibly be visible there, where future users would find it more easily. In a thread named "Im rooted and have two issues" - they probably won't look.
Also, just as an aside and not meant as a passive agressive poke - AV recievers have to be interoperable with other equipments. Thats where standards come in (which audio standards does mine support, which audio format do I want from Kodi...) -- so it actually is worth the time to "learn them". They basically are what also the manufacturer is "betting on", so he has a market he can sell into.
The chance that someone also owns the exact same equipment and has solved exactly your problem before, and now happens to see your thread - is always very low with all interoperability/connectivity stuff. Understand that there are maybe a dozen of people floating around in a forum like this who can and might be willing to do even basic trouble shooting for you. Maybe 100s if you add the educated lurkers out there who might chime in, when they see an issue they have solved in the past.
Thats your "pool" for the off chance - "maybe you have the same equipment and issue as I do" bet. And usually it means, that you arent successfull with it. Now if you just ask the standards question (even on the level of "I cant get surround sound - what could be the culprit") your chances increase manyfold.
So whenever I see a "i have a A and a B, and they don't work - I've already restarted the device" usually not only does it read to me as "doesn't know the basics", it also screams "doesnt wan't to learn, wan'ts product support". Now while this is a product forum (and XDA also sees the people in here as a product support community) -- people in here usually don't see themselves as product support assistants.
Again - not saying this in an aggressive tone, this is the post-battle talk - about details that will eventually be lost, when this thread leaves the first pages.
Standards matter. Showing that you'd much rather "learn" than to get your problem solved matters as well. At least to me... But then, what do I know...
I need to connect a sony z5 to a sony projector but unfortunately that is one of the features that lineage has removed from my phone. Is it possible to restore that ability? This is a real dealbreaker and I'll probably need to go back to the stock rom or another rom that has it.
Xperia dual shock support would be really nice too but it's not as critical.
Thanks.

Thanks for your reply. I already posted in the first linked thread before posting here, but the z5 specific forum is dead apparently. The way I see it is this is not a z5 specific problem it's a general lineage OS problem that affects every phone capable of screen mirroring via the miracast standard.

I miracast all the time. No additional cost/WiFi needed, beyond the adapter.
- Plugin the Miracast adapter for Flat screen TV by inserting into HDMI port of TV, plugin the USB power cord
- Turn on Wi-Fi on phone but do not allow it to connect to anything.
- Go to Settings/display/Cast (or just the Cast icon in QS) and look for a number.
- Select the Miracast ID and touch/confirm the button.
The TVscreen will reflect everything on your phone screen

Thanks that's interesting. Did you install any relevant apk's after flashing lineageOS? Just to be sure I tried the steps you describe again but it doesn't work. When selecting the cast option in display settings it does not search for devices, it immediately shows a blank screen with "no nearby devices were found" and there is no option to search.
I also installed an apk from sony mobile communications sonymobile.tvout.wifidisplay that allowed me to put a "screen mirroring" shortcut on the home screen. This one does have an option to search but the app crashes immediately when the search button is pressed.
Perhaps there is another apk I need that performs the actual searching?

No extra apps needed, miracasting is built into the system. A cpl things to consider tho,
1. The miracast adapter needs power and come with a separate USB wire you can plug in (virtually) any USB port in the TV to the adapter.
* The only exclusion for the adapter is by using a Smart TV since Miracasting circuitry is built into the actual TV. *
2. Turn TV channel to the HDMI port you have the adapter plugged into and wait a few seconds for the devices to read each other, then select the adapter and when it fully connects, the TV screen will look exactly like whatever your phone is displaying...

Thanks, considering the abnormal behavior from the display cast screen and the crashing mirroring shortcut I'm pretty sure the problem is on my phones end. The miracast definitely works on the receiving end (projector) I tested it with a samsung s5.
I ditched lineage and went to a rom by some sceryavuz guy. Miracast doesn't work. So I ditched that and tried a stock (7.0, phone came with 6.1) rom. Miracast doesn't work. Moral of the story is don't play around with roms kids. The people who make them don't care about dropped features. Every time I get a phone, I try a rom from here like an idiot, every time it breaks some essential feature and every time xda either has no idea how to fix it or just doesn't care.
"that was a couple of years ago! surely the roms are better now!" NOPE. I never learn my lesson.
Hello,
I have the problem with my Galaxy S9 and the last version of LineageOS. I don't see the miracast device (Microsoft Wireless Display) in the Cast menu. Do you have an idea ?
Thanks
