Which ROM are you using and which kernels did you try? You can't use just any random kernel. It has to be compatible with your ROM first.
thanks for reply
the last i tried was...
rom: ua_tuna-4.4.4-20181228-1431
kernel: gnex_oc_uv

you can only use AnyKernels with those. If you're using an older ROM like AOKP or CM etc, you could try one of the customs kernels on those but those ROMs (and kernels) are very dated. Your best bet is to use UA (out of the box) as they are the most updated ones for this device.
i also tried omni rom & los.... stuck at google logo also.
can you give me a working link for:
- android 4.4.4 + custom kernel for overclock
- android 7.x + custom kernel for overclock
thanks in advance

You can search on sourceforge and afh for ROMS. Kernels are available here.
i meant a working combination of rom / kernel.
but ok, will search again.

Hello, now I have the rom: Stock Plus v3.01, but I want to know if there are any kernel support this rom that allows me to overclock the phone and add more modifications for performance and the like.

Look for gingertiny kernel, or incredikernel. You can find both here http://www.incredikernel.com/?page_id=10, along with incredicontrol and app for tweaking kernel settings.
thanks for your answer! one last question which of the 2 is more stable gingertiny kernel or incredikernel? Both are installed recovery is true?

I only use gingertiny and havent tried incredikernel, but i hear others say there using it all the time. And yes they are flashed thru recovery.
Can you just mix and match a kernel with a custom ROM? Or how do I know if they are compatible, without nandroid+trial+error.
I was using stock/rooted jellybean ROM + franco kernel. I just flashed AOKP which includes it's own kernel (tuna-faux), but want to go back to franco.
Thanks for the help. I did try searching but did not find this information.
as long as the kernel supports the android version (4.0.4 or 4.1.1, etc) of the rom you are on, you're fine.

And are they backwards compatible? Can I use a 4.1.1 kernel with a 4.0.4 ROM?
Thanks for the reply!

No, you can't. Stay on the same version.

Trial and error I'm afraid. I had AOKP and flashed Franco on top and it broke a couple minor things, like Settings - Storage would FC every time with this combination. So I assumed there is a reason AOKP came with tuna-faux, it was tested on it and made for it.
aokp and cyanogen come with a kernel for their code, i think you can't flash other kernel

I have a couple of newbie questions I Hope someone can answer. I'm rooted and using the pegasus kernal. I looked at the kernal page for my phone and saw that the Matrix Kernal was AOSP only. What does that mean? I was also wondering about modems. Is it safe to flash then with the stock rom, or do you need something else before flashing s modem. Thanks for any advise.

AOSP = Android Open Source Project. So matrix kernel will only work with roms that using AOSP. Example: Cyanogen Mod, Carbon Rom, Pac Man Rom...etc..
Its safe to flash modems using the stock rom. You can do it on AOSP as well.
Thank you

Hi guys,
I have a rooted gpad with stock 4.4.2 and custom twrp recovery with root.
I am looking for a stable rom that still has qpair functionality as i use it with my g2 when driving.
I also want a kernel that is overclockable and still frequently updated (some kernels are now discontinued).
I have searched a lot but still confused as to what to flash. Any help would be appreciated[emoji5]

Hi. Use this method so you can install Qpair on AOSP based ROMs (Not entirely sure if this actually works on the v500). - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2571429
If you go with a stock based ROM I would go with LRS G PAD.
Only AIC Kernel is slightly overclocked from 1.72 to 1.78Ghz.
If you are looking for speed and smoothness in my opinion I believe the best combination to be SlimKat and mani Kernel.

Thanks for the quick response bro. So if i use slimkat and mani will qpair work as well as stock or does it have any issues?

I have not actually used it myself, I do not use Qpair, I have just read about the fix. If that doesn't work another option is to do what this guy did here on post 97. - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=48452252&highlight=qpair#post48452252

Thanks I'll try that now. Wish me luck [emoji5]
I apologize in advance if I am asking a dumb question. This is my first time rooting and installing a custom rom to my Note 8. I tried looking at various custom roms and kernels that are available but all the lists of features are so daunting to me and I can't figure out which ones are what I'm looking for.
I'm not looking for heavy customization. What I really want to do is delete bloatware, use air command, and have lockscreen and notification customizations. Can anyone help me and recommend me the best custom rom/kernel that will let me have these options?
I think you should go with Civato Custom ROM, it's the most popular one:

Kernel:

Thanks for you reply. I'm a little confused why one link offers a rom and kernel and the other link is just a kernal. Is there a difference between the two kernels?
Also, if I download one of the above, do I need to install this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2794785 if I want to use Air Command?

If you install the ROM it includes that kernel but a newer version may be available to flash after your first boot of the ROM.
The AirCommand feature can be installed using an option in the Aroma installer for the ROM but it needs to be run separately from the ROM/kernel installation.
See the OP of the ROM for more detail.
