Does anyone know if it is possible to force the Display Resolution from 1400 to 1080 for certain apps? I have a vnc client that needs to be 1080, but I would like my system to remain 1440. The device is rooted. I remember back in the day there were root plugins that would do this but now I don't know.

My first thought is to use Tasker to detect when the app is launched and run an maybe find an adb command that works.

That was my first thought as well but I have found no way to do this. I know several ways to change the simulated dpi, but this doesn't actually have any affect on the resolution of the app.
The app is bVNC and the reason I want to do this is because it has a function to auto set the vnc to the size of the client. This means the display will follow my device going back and forth from landscape to portrait mode. I can set the client size to 1080, but then I would lose this ability. Most linux apps that I want to run are ludicrously small on a 1440 display. 1080 is just about perfect.

wow, I figured that was useless and uninstalled it lol.... Does it really change the resolution on a per app bases, or does it just toggle the global setting when triggered by using certain apps? I can achieve the second result in Tasker, but it is clunky and makes multitasking very difficult.

I would have to find the apk and reinstall it, and I have a workaround implemented that is working for me ok. You suggested it would have the functionality I'm looking for, do you know the answer to my question?

Can't remember. I run FHD for everything. I know the general concept works. The use case specifics you will have to troubleshoot yourself
Routine is a embedded feature you can find in settings / advanced settings your can't casually uninstall.

Several new apps showed up in the Samsung Zone last night:
Video Call
Basically what it sounds like, a 3G-based video calling app. Unfortunately, it apparently requires a FFC, so all it does on the Focus is display an error message and quit.
RSS Times
A pretty nice Google Reader app
AllShare
Samsung's DLNA media sharing app. But again, on the Focus all it does is display a "not supported" error and quit.
FunShot
An interesting-looking (haven't played with it yet) photo editor with some "funky" effects.
MiniDiary
A diary app with text, voice, drawing and photo support.
I'd have thought OEMs would be allowed to only target certain devices for their apps, so either they can't and theyre for the omnia w (etc) or we might be inline for some driver updates...
I use Minidiary which is a good app... we cannot use vedio call app but i think its prety amazing specially cos we can make vedio calls to iphone and android phones even if they dont have this app...
i want to upgrade to omnia W phone, but i will loose all my texts and have to unlock all levels again from begining in my xbox games.. which is the only thing preventing me from switching phones..
There is also an Advanced Text Message app if you tap on "more from Samsung.." but it doesn't work either.
They should let the video call app work on phones with no ffc. At least we can see the other person or we might use a mirror.
Working dlna would have been very good.

I can't see that one on my Focus, but I do see the new high fidelity positioning app, which is the first new app from Samsung that installs into the settings screen. It has two settings, one that increases GPS accuracy by using other sensors such as accelerometer and compass, and one that enables use of GLONASS (for users in Russia).

I downloaded that app. Interesting how it installs itself in your settings. My question is, what if we want to uninstall it? How do we? Holding it down doesnt give us the option.

if you can sideload the xap this worked for me.
get XAPDeployX.exe
load Zune and have phone plugged into USB
start XAPDeployX.exe
load the app you want to remove from settings page
check options "force uninstall if application is already installed"
click deploy. at some point XAPDeployX will tell you that it found and successfully uninstalled the existing application.
right then you unplug the phone, just in time before it installs the new one.
voila, the app is gone from settings.

There is really no need to uninstall it. It takes up very little space, and if neither option is turned on, it does nothing.

Oh, I am. OCD is my life . I just look at it as Samsung providing an app to install a Mango setting that didn't make it through development in time for the official Mango update. In other words, if the setting had been part of the Mango firmware update, there would be no way to "uninstall" it without uninstalling Mango, right?
In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the setting is automatically included in future Samsung firmware updates.

Huh?! No idea what you're talking about!
Has anyone found (or created an app) to take screenshots on the OUYA?
I know there's the ADB method, but I really just want an internal application of button setup of some sort; the ADB over WiFi is semi buggy for me and I don't want to disconnect my OUYA from the TV to attach to the computer (then I can't see the screen of course...).
Can anyone think of a method without ADB?
You may try and side load airdroid on to the ouya. The app has a screen capture option along with remove control of your android device from a web browser.
Ouya has multitasking disabled. When an app isnt running in the foreground, it is killed. Its a performance thing to make games run more bettererer. I dont think any screenshot app would work out well with this option turned on.

This is what I do. AirDroid was the first app I installed and it's the only app you need to sideload, manage, and take screen shots of the OUYA.

I thought this originally, too, but I've found it doesn't effect the performance too much. I've had multitasking on for 3-4 daays now (I use my OUYA every day for hours) and have seen very little difference.

As a side question, were do most people put their sideloaded APKs? So far all I have done is clickrd on them within my Box.com app and they just start.
I use the install directly feature of AirDroid, the apk is only temporarily transferred to the OUYA and then deleted after install, like as if you were downloading it from the Play store or Amazon market.

I just downloaded the newest version and then sideloaded it to my OUYA. It's up working now, though the WiFi setup requirement is redundant when it's on the LAN...

yeah but this isn't uncommon... some apps look for either wifi or mobile network and just won't work on the OUYA without Wifi. It's one of those things that dev's of those apps probably never thought of a Android device running with ethernet.

It doesn't really at all honestly; though I have mine to only allow 3 background processes at 1 time. The only effect it has is on xbmc if you're watching 1080P with a heavy skin.
[Update] There is no screenshot app that I have found that works for OUYA (rooted, busybox, SuperSU); I resorted to adb over the network with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wmendez.adbovertcp and manually triggered screencaps from my tablet.

By "Heavy" I mean a big resource intensive skin. In the wiki I explained the skins that you should use with the OUYA, I tested as many skins as I could find and those were the only ones that are "Light" skins that produce little or no lag.

I didn't start it, Ned did, but there wasn't much there; him and I have been working to make it complete. And at the moment yeah it is still recommended ATM. All nightly builds after Aug 2 all have the libstagefright built-in and should work, but I haven't tested and haven't heard anything. I'll be testing builds next week though.

Let me know if there is an alternative?

Just curious, was the screen orientation in landscape or portrait when you launched it? Or did you have an app to fix the orientation?

I am using version 5.1.5.6. Check my video calibration, remove auto rotate app, and even reinstalling Titanium did not help.
I am missing just the top portion of the screen where there is a check mark to access the many feature for backup /restoring.
What version is every one using?

That was already done. I calibrate my screen to 3%.
I was tired of the camera not working properly when using a custom DPI. I made an app which lets you change it without reboot (especially nice for ART as rebooting takes 5 minutes or so for me).
Just put it in /system/priv-app and set the permissions to rw,r--,r--.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Does this change all apps at once or does it work on an app by app basis ?

It's everything. I was thinking of possibly maming a version later on that monitors tge running app to change dynamically though.
So now that I did this, how does one undo this? Even if I change build.prop your app takes priority..I want to know for when we get app settings and then I can have build.properties set to 500 and this set to 640 and then remove and boom happy xD thank you though, works like a charm!

Thanks for making this much needed MOD/APP ... but I don't really get how to use it though. Do I just put a custom DPI (for example 540) in the box? But if I do that, the whole ROM will change to that DPI. How do I change specific apps into a desired DPI, and everything to a different DPI ?
Thanks.
Hey there,
is there a app what automatically scalls apps to a specified setup when they get opened like, open game X, screen resolution get set to 720p+low processor needs or WQHD and high performance and so on?
I'm not able to find something here or with Google, hopefully someone can help!

Hey thanks, that's a very interesting app, sadly I can't figure out if it's possible to create a task or whatever, what says:
If app X get startet, the screen automatically scalls from 1080p+ to 720p+ and when it get tapped out or closed, the resolution get set to normal (1080p+) again.
OS here anyone with Tasker experience, who would know how to create that ?
