Has anyone found (or created an app) to take screenshots on the OUYA?
I know there's the ADB method, but I really just want an internal application of button setup of some sort; the ADB over WiFi is semi buggy for me and I don't want to disconnect my OUYA from the TV to attach to the computer (then I can't see the screen of course...).
Can anyone think of a method without ADB?
You may try and side load airdroid on to the ouya. The app has a screen capture option along with remove control of your android device from a web browser.
Ouya has multitasking disabled. When an app isnt running in the foreground, it is killed. Its a performance thing to make games run more bettererer. I dont think any screenshot app would work out well with this option turned on.

This is what I do. AirDroid was the first app I installed and it's the only app you need to sideload, manage, and take screen shots of the OUYA.

I thought this originally, too, but I've found it doesn't effect the performance too much. I've had multitasking on for 3-4 daays now (I use my OUYA every day for hours) and have seen very little difference.

AirDroid didn't start for me, 2nd app I tried to load after getting xbmc running. And I'm on the same page as you, I've had multitasking enabled since day 1 and it's only made a small impact to performance, but nothing worth noting...

Why didn't airdroid start for you? Where did you get the apk from? You might have had an old version or something.

As a side question, were do most people put their sideloaded APKs? So far all I have done is clickrd on them within my Box.com app and they just start.
I use the install directly feature of AirDroid, the apk is only temporarily transferred to the OUYA and then deleted after install, like as if you were downloading it from the Play store or Amazon market.

I just downloaded the newest version and then sideloaded it to my OUYA. It's up working now, though the WiFi setup requirement is redundant when it's on the LAN...

yeah but this isn't uncommon... some apps look for either wifi or mobile network and just won't work on the OUYA without Wifi. It's one of those things that dev's of those apps probably never thought of a Android device running with ethernet.

It doesn't really at all honestly; though I have mine to only allow 3 background processes at 1 time. The only effect it has is on xbmc if you're watching 1080P with a heavy skin.
[Update] There is no screenshot app that I have found that works for OUYA (rooted, busybox, SuperSU); I resorted to adb over the network with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wmendez.adbovertcp and manually triggered screencaps from my tablet.

By "Heavy" I mean a big resource intensive skin. In the wiki I explained the skins that you should use with the OUYA, I tested as many skins as I could find and those were the only ones that are "Light" skins that produce little or no lag.

I didn't start it, Ned did, but there wasn't much there; him and I have been working to make it complete. And at the moment yeah it is still recommended ATM. All nightly builds after Aug 2 all have the libstagefright built-in and should work, but I haven't tested and haven't heard anything. I'll be testing builds next week though.

You don't know much about Android, do you?
Android does have ability to multitask. It is just an effective multitasking. Applications can be left 'running' without them actually running. They are written in memory and kept there, without taking battery, until they are called back and continue on from where they left off. But Android also allows applications to open services in the background, triggered by specific time or event or by an application, that allows them to work while the application is not in focus. Many music players are done this way. Also a lot of apps synchronize in the background in this manner.
It is entirely the application developers decision to do what is best for the specific application. Android 4.0 gives all the tools the user needs. This is not Windows desktop where every working application and process takes processing power to keep running.
Would be awesome then if someone made a YouTube app that worked in the background

If you find it with ADB, after I suggest not installing a lot of free apps, especially large amounts of them within a short space, but generally paid apps are worth it. Or you could click yes and see what free apps are offered, maybe they might be developed by the same person/company, and the one you installed might be among those other free apps.

Well, After some playing around, it isnt exactly usable. First off on the menu there is a about an inch or 2 white space on the bottom and right side of screen, i believe this can be fixed with some kind of dpi mod, but not totally sure. secondly, only the home screen loads images, ie, whats playing now, whats coming up, if u go to pay per views, it is just empty boxes with borders, none of the images load until you get to the actual video description, but you really have no idea what you are clicking. Lastly when playing a video (which does indeed work) with my tronsmart tsm-01 air mote i could not do anything but go back, i could not pause i could not get the menu up. i could not fast forward etc. only could go back. So while it is useable to watch summerslam, with no dvr feature thats really about it. maybe the dpi issue will fix everything who knows, I only played around with it for about 15 minutes as i headed to work, but its hardly worth it right now.
As far as getting the amazon app store. probably used more effort typing in this forum than to just simply google 'android app store' : http://bit.ly/uC6tic

Hey everyone,
I just set this up today and it worked great. I am a Steelers fan, but I live in Bengals country. That means I don't get to see many Steelers games, because they aren't broadcasts locally on TV.
So I used a GPS spoofing app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.incorporateapps.fakegps.fre
And a Chromecast dongle hooked to my TV:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.chromecast.app
And the NFL Mobile app:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.gotv.nflgamecenter.us.lite
Enable "Mock Locations" in Developer Options.
Open Fake GPS app and enable a location where you know your game is broadcasting.
Open NFL mobile app and voila!! You now have access to the local games being broadcast on FOX and CBS for wherever you set your fake GPS location to.
You also need to enable "Screen Cast" in the Chromecast app, so you can mirror your phone screen to the TV. Set your screen timeout as high as you can.
I'm sure someone has already done this, but this was my first time, and it worked like a charm.
You may have to kill the NFL app to get it to switch locations as you change your fake GPS location. I always set my location first, then make sure my NFL mobile app is completely killed. Then just restart the NFL app. The new games should populate in the watch now section.
Hope this comes in handy to someone!

They have a DRM protection in there. It checks to see if your phone is running mock locations and/or has developer options turned on. It also does not work with SideSync. It seems to be recognizing the dual streaming over a wifi connection.

Got a work around!
I just got an Amazon Fire Stick and messing around with it. I installed koush's beta mirror apk on my note 3 and all cast on the stick. Connect it and then open up nfl mobile apk. The t would of course start saying it can't be mirrored etc. That's when you open up Multiwindow with something like chrome in the other window. Click back and fourth between the two and viola should be able to stream. It might take a couple tries and I had a couple of times where sound wouldn't catch up just shut beta mirror and reopen and try again. I cancelled cable due to never watching it but needed my fix. Of course it's a little laggy and not perfect but it's a work around that's watchable! I don't have a chromecast but seeing as this was two apks I downloaded and installed off the store it shouldn't matter. Hope this helps someone I k of its the end of the season but you should still be able to get probowl/superbowl/nfl now/nfl network etc to work and probably other programs that block mirroring I haven't tried but hey can't hurt. Who'd thunk touch wiz would actually be a benefit for a change!
What apks did you download?

Guys
I had this setup since late August and it was fairly stable until (I guess) some plugins were updated. Now I have 3-4 crashes/day from Genesis and Yahoo plugins (could be others, but I use these 90%).
Nothing in the logs or any indication whatsoever, but I did notice that if I power cycle the device (I have it on a remote controlled switch) it lats a lot longer.
I'm on the last rootable stock ROM 51.1.1.0_user_51107022
Anyone else seeing this?
When i watch a serie in genesis it crashes to! Stops streaming the video and goes back where i opened the video. It does dis to in other addons. Tried reinstalling xbmc and different setups. Buffering is fine and network connection is fine to! I'm on the latest prerooted firmware. I think it started when i used sdmaid pro. Anyone got a suggestion?

Was it Confluence++ with FTV specific tweaks? That's what I have.
As far as 13.3.3 vs 13.3.2 is concerned, I didn't see any improvement/worse behavior. I tend to blame the plugins rather than the core, but I might be wrong.

I spent a long time over this weekend trying to figure out the perfect configuration that works for me.
Why not move to Helix. My recommendation is try that out as elmerohueso has fixed all the confluence ++ skins along with the root script to check for the power options.
As a recommendation, if moving to helix, go with the nightlies of November 28th as the latest and the release candidate has a recent playback to not work right. I've seen the following fixes by moving to helix.
1. kodi does not crash at all. SPMC was good but used to crash about 2 times a day.
2. Confluence ++ skin is now fixed to work perfectly with kodi.
3. Power options for root script has been fixed.
4. .ts file playback is no longer choppy. I had to disable either lightscribe or media. I can't remember and reboot.

With bluray We can now see the menu which is nice.
hope this helps.

Question for others here: how do I go about restoring FTV launcher? Do I just reset the defaults in Settings/Apps? Maybe having SPMC as a launcher is not the best idea.

Well...the worst happened: SPMC stopped loading up, and as it was set as launcher, I found myself stuck.
The only solution I found was to load Kodi from adbFIRE and it became the default launcher, thus allowing me to get in and delete cache (which fixed SPMC).
The question remains: how does one restore FTV launcher as default?

I believe the best way to revert back to the Fire TV Launcher would be to uninstall any and all launchers.
Back up your SPMC settings→ Uninstall SPMC Launcher
Install non-launcher SPMC 13.4 APK → Restore SPMC settings.

Thanks mjbxx...my concern was that if I don't restore the original launcher I will find myself unable to boot. On a regular Android box I can go and change the default program, but that's not the case here. Any file I can edit to make the FTV launcher default?
