Hello everyone! I just switched to my first Android device and am truly enjoying the experience. I can't believe I was using an iPhone for so long. I finished draining my battery for the first time and recharged it and am draining it again. My phone indicates that the screen is consuming around 66-70% of the battery drainage while everything else is quite low such as the Android OS taking up about 12%. Is this typical and does it improve over time? Thank you for your help.
this is normal but seems like that is pretty heavy use. if your phone was barely used then that is not normal.
I am going to further diagnose this. I have my brightness set to auto. I wasn't really using the phone that much. I flashed it to the yakju build and it is running 4.0.2. Is there anything I should do to test the phone?
what is your screen on time
I'm looking at
9h 56m on bettery
Android OS 33%
Phone Idle 30%
Cell Standby 22%
Screen 9% (on time 9m)
Wifi 5%
Google Services 2%
This is after the phone being nearly untouched most of the day, no calls or texts and nothing being done but checking my email once not too long ago. It's on Auto-brightness which sucks because it appears to be on the darkest setting but without that my battery seems to go from full charge to 50% in 1-2hours with moderate usage (Browsing the web, Checking email, Browsing Market, few phone calls and texts) and it sucks that I feel like I cant play with the phone because it'll be dead when I need it and without Auto-brightness the battery dies even quicker.
Almost feel like I need to be tethered to the charger.

you either have really bad signal and/or 4g and/or a process keeping the phone awake, in your case the high cell standby time suggests the first two
This seems common for the lte version. The gsm version gets very good battery life especially idle drain. Turn off lte is your best option.

Assuming you have the screen on a lot then yes. Those big beautiful screens are hard on a battery.
If you're on the LTE version using 3G only you will get around 3 hours screen on time MAX.
GSM version you will probably get 3-4 hours screen on time per charge.
I am seen huge battery drain on Nexus 7 2013 after flashing Android 6.0 factory image. Even battery usage option screen gives strange result. For example -- Total battery % used by all the apps just show 9%, while total battery left is only 73% after fully charging of 100%. So where is the remaining battery of 18% gone, which is not even showing up in battery uses option screen?
Attached herewith is screenshot of battery usage screen. And I really notice huge battery drain with Android 6.0 as compared to earlier Android 5.1.1.
Please help and let me know.
You're estimated time left @73% is 3 days, which means your tablet has been on and not charged in awhile. Nothing in your battery stats indicates any battery drain at all.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using Tapatalk
It just says 3 days remaining. But practically this never happens. Now overnight there is 30% battery drain without having used the tablet and it says now 43% battery remaining and one day left. And total usage mentioned by apps in battery usage screen is not even more than 15% now also. And if you add actual battery usage of all apps by clicking the indivisual battery usage details, total usage is not even 500 mAh. I believe Total Nexus 7 battery capacity is around 4000mAh.
So where is the battery use and drain is happening? This behavior I am seeing is after upgrading to Android 6.0.
I've got quite a bit of mystery drain as well. It runs flat for a little while when the display is off and it is idle for a long time, then suddenly it will just start draining ~2% per hour. The wifi lists as always on even though the policy is "Never". I have location services off, bluetooth off, NFC is off. Even more fun I put the tablet down 2 days ago at 75% battery and I picked it up this morning I picked it up and it was dead. No battery log at all either.
Hmm. I'm running stock rooted with ElementalX, and haven't had any battery issues.

Exactly the same issue here. Battery drains fast but battery stats shows no abnormality. I work for an Android phone manufacturer. My colleague who is in charge of the battery thing guesses some hardware module might have current leakage in sleep mode which software cannot detect.
I have wiped cache partition and now see massive battery usage by WiFi after overnight. Looks to be problem stated in the thread https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/nexus/NB0izQHuBaU;context-place=forum/nexus
Though this issue is raised for Nexus 5, I think it applies to Nexus 7 2013 Android 6.0 also.
You are not alone. My Nexus 7 is currently chewing through it's battery at a rate of knots. Even with the screen off it continues to use the battery as if it were on all the time. After wiping the cache partition things have become even weirder. Apps that have not been opened are using large percentages of the battery. I can barely get a few screen hours out of it.
Wondering if this thread has so few replies because people are checking the general section and seeing nothing about the issue so think it's just them?
The information on battery usage is so weird it's hard to believe that it's producing any useful or meaningful data.
Even I am surprised that no battery drain issue for Android 6.0 is reported for Nexus 7 2013 in this forum and not many members have replied to this thread.
Anyway for me it is a serious issue with absolutely no advantage in any sense for upgrading from Android 5.1.1 to Android 6.0 for Nexus 7 2013.
Here is one more screenshot of battery drain with no battery accounted for 27% (48% total battery drained - 21% battery used by apps reporting in attached screenshot).
I hope at least Google Android team is aware of this issue and knows how to resolve it.
Still amazed that there are only a handful of replies to this thread.
Got the System Update notification today. Size is of 2.2 MB. Downloaded but unfortunately battery charge was not enough to do the OTA install. Will charge the Nexus 7 2013 and install the OTA update. Let us hope that this OTA has fix for this battery drain issue. Will check and let you all know tomorrow.
Even new factory image for Android 6.0.0 build MRA58U is available now.
Same issue of battery drain with MRA58U OTA update also. 20% battery drained out during night within 7 hours when Nexus 7 2013 was idle without any activity.
Same issue here. Flashed 6.0 last weekend. 2/3% idle drain an hour while everything (bt, location, syncs, nfc) is off except wifi. Wifi keeps connected while set to go off when screen off. SoT off course hours less with the idle drain.
Same Issue battery Drain
Same issue battery drain ....i hope the lattest update send me by OTA this week resolves the problem...
I'm seeing great battery life now without root and Greenify or any third party solution but I have problems with the stats. If I let my n7 drain completely and charge it to 100% while shutdown I get +10h SOT (lowest brightness) but if I charge it from 1% without being shutdown I only get 8h SOT. Huge inconsistency in the stats, it's like the system misinterprets the stats and need a reset after every charge.
Hi!
I'm having the same problem with huge battery drain in sleep mode with my nexus 7 2013 after the update to android 6.0.1.
It is using 2-3% of battery per hour when in sleep mode, but the problem is, nothing is indicating what is causing this drain (in battery usage stats everything show as normal - no huge battery drain by the app or wifi, but something is still draining battery).
Prior to the update (Android 5) i was losing maybe 5-6% per 12 hours at most (cca. 0.5% per hour) and the tablet would last 3-4 days, now I have to charge it almost daily.
Any more news on this issue or possible solutions?
Thanks.
Nexus 7 2013 lte android 6.0.1 battery drain for me....
+1
I just turn off the wifi icon from the Quick Settings.
6.0.1 nexus 7 2013 wifi.
I downgrade to kitkat 4.4.2 and my nexus after 24 hours in standby only drain 12% battery......the problem are android 5 and 6 the tab work great and faster whit kitkat no lag or other problem
Very bad google policy
I got stock os with all the fancy stuff disabled.
My battery charges 1% per minute when between (0-85%) after that charging slows down.
It doesnt however fully charge it usually wont go higher than 97%.
Battery drains 1%/h in standby
5%\h listening to offline-music
Today I had 6h 5 min with 3:54 on-screen time ( starting from 93% down to 2%.
About the same for me but I can do a full charge in 45min coming from about 9%
About the same, recent CM builds are better. I'm considering the Nexus ROM
Sent from my Fire Phone using Tapatalk
At first i thought the battery life was ok, then i switched to the nexus rom for a while and came back to stuck because i wanted my camera back. There is a huge difference in battery life as far as I'm concerned. Stuck OS burns way more battery when idle but then again it has a lot more bloat :/ so it's to be expected
I get awesome battery life. On rooted stock with third party launcher with various tweaks. Way better than my desire or Moto g or Moto x or nexus 4 ever were.
Agreed, all other roms besides stock get awesome battery life. I've disabled or uninstalled as many apps as possible and the battery still drains unacceptably fast at idle. If we could get a stock rom modified to get the battery life of a custom rom that would make this phone perfect for me.

I consider the battery in mine to be working very well and use ~33.3% every two hours with the screen at full brightness and constant touching for reading. So looks like its about the same.
Standby is ~50% used in 48 hours with wifi on and background apps using the internet.
That's based on the apps I use and whatever they're doing in the background to wake the cpu, use wifi, etc.
Stock rom with the 'fancy stuff' disabled as well.
Reading through some battery threads I was told that the "proper" way to check your overnight drain was to charge up to 100% and not touch it until the next morning. I tried this last night and WiFi drain was in the 30% range (I used my phone before taking the screenshot which is why it's at 22%) with a total drop of 7% (100-93% over 8 hours).
Does this seem high?
I've got WiFi, NFC, battery saver location, mobile data, and double tap to wake on. The phone is rooted and I'm using a custom kernel (but I'm pretty sure it happened with the stock kernel too). I also have an Android Wear watch attached all night. On AOSP ROMs on my OP3T overnight drain was around 2% if I started at 100% and WiFi was never more than maybe 6% of total drain. Again, I'm not asking how to fix this, I'm just wondering if this is something that others are experiencing.
Thanks!
Mine dropped 2% over four hours of sleep. I'll try with battery saver on.
Mine averages about 3% in 8hrs with wifi on, I'll post a screenshot tomorrow, on freedomos using simplegx kernel
My WiFi drain is very low during idle. Like most flagships of this era.
mine is as same as op, but last night i charged it upto 74 and slept and when i got up after 6 hrs or so it dropped 2 %, strange ... maybe it's the way the phone is charged and calibrated for dash charging
I'm loosing 4-5% in 8 hours.

Thanks for these screenshots. Obviously I don't have nearly the SOT that you do in my screenshot, but it looks like if our SOTs were the same you'd probably have similar WiFi percent usage.
Mine's been surprisingly bad - at least, worse than my Moto G5S, Galaxy S8+ or iPhone 8 Plus were. I'm losing like 5-7% every four hours, my battery drain while connected to wifi at work is way worse than either of the other phones mentioned too.
All in all it's kind of disappointing considering how good the OP5T is in literally every other regard.

We may have similar WiFi usage. But my drain is about .5% per hour, overnight. I don't consider that high, and battery consumption has to be attributed to something. Here is my current usage since yesterday's charge.
On 8.0 the WiFi drain % is even lower, but idle drain per hour is the same. So it doesn't really matter.
Very bad.. Battery go. Down quickly in night..
My wifi drain is also really bad on the latest 4.7.4
Hope they release a fix soon...
Edit... I did a fresh install with stock 4.7.4 and it isn't as bad but still is present. At least it's more tolerable.
Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk
So I did another test last night (4.7.4 and SimpleGX kernel) and had 3% drain. With all the comments here I think the high percentage of WiFi is normal and probably not affecting battery life a lot. I am starting to think the kernel may be providing better results than stock 4.7.4 though since a lot of people are mentioning poor battery on 4.7.4.
I don't even know how long, all I can say is my battery drains 3% every 9 and a half hours. Both bluetooth and wifi was on. This is on the stock rom and kernal, not sure how you guys have such high battery drain... Are you guys sure it isn't another app hijacking your battery? Because from my experience the battery stats isn't always perfect. Sometimes I was told that it was my screen (on my old phone) in which it was actually a 3rd party app. After removing the app, my battery drain went a lot slower than usual.
Has anyone tried this toggle in Developer options?

Just tried that setting last night and it doesn't make much difference.
For all wondering I have an Android Wear device connected 24/7 and location set to battery saving. I also keep NFC and data on all night. I'm not using screen-off gestures though.
I wish it was only 7% or something like that on my OP5T.
I used to be one of you 3%-battery-"drain"-at-night-guys, until the official update to Oreo. Now it uses 36% in 6h38m, of which WiFi is reported being 29% (1044mah, despite 0m active and background usage reported). There is 2.8MB additional use according to the WiFi data usage report that was set to count from today, yet the numbers per app have decreased, so there goes reliability on that. I haven't added or removed any apps, only wiped cache after the update. On standby, it only takes 18 hours for it to drain, which used to be several days.
Another weird thing is that WiFi is terribly slow since the same update, but only on this device. (No numbers yet)
Right now my plan is to test all the mentioned related settings, as well as WiFi off, make screenshots after each nightly test, and finally do a complete wipe and perform the same tests with a minimum of apps, and then redo them again with my usual set of apps. It could still be one or more apps that misbehave on Oreo specifically I suppose, so if there's any indication for that, I will start eliminating apps one by one until I find the culprit.
Since the update to FVC7 my battery drains much faster than usual. During the 6-7 night hours it loose abt 10% and after around 8-9 hours of moderate use the battery rich around 20-25%. Better battery stats does not show any thing unusual.
any help will be appreciated.
I only noticed that Screen On time drains battery like crazy just having Display set to 1080p (Medium) and refresh rate on 60Hz (low).
For me it's "only" the display that drains battery very hard. Screen off time is pretty good, but I have a lot of Apps in Standby and Deep Standby.
But BBS was never adapted to Android 12 and Samsungs on Battery service is missing a lot. Look into RAM optimization which Apps are popping up that shouldn't do. Even if it's very low on RAM, if it's an App that hadn't been used since last boot and doesn't need to work in background, than it should go directly to Standby or Deep Standby.
I might be off, but as I'm looking at it: With (Deep) Standby option, Android 12 finally adopted Greenify a long missing feature on every Anroid OS.
