Currently I am porting Ubuntu Touch to the Samsung S3 Neo (s3ve3g) and I am therefore looking for alphatesters.
Note: This port is not ready for a daily drive!
Note: There is no dual-boot available, you will have to dedicate the device for the time of the test
Any interested individuals please comment here on the thread for getting further instructions.

I am interested in testing this type of rom on my device, now out of use. :good:
Okay so here are generic instructions. As I am still in the early phase this involves some manual steps. Preferably also you use a Linux installation (can be VM) for that, since otherwise you might miss some tools.
Read https://forums.ubports.com/topic/3652/call-for-testing-samsung-s3-neo-s3ve3g-owners and https://pad.ubports.com/p/samsung-s3neo-alphatesting
Great project i'm waiting for it
Just what i was looking for! thanks - i'm looking to when i will be able to understand the install instructions (it has a reason that i am a junior member xD)
I would love to test when there is clear step by step instructions I can understand
UBUNTU is ready as second OS on my laptop
waooooo I want to be an alpha tester
Its now in the installer: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/s3ve3g/
Hey does this build also support the normal Galaxy S3 Neo (GT-I9300I) and not just the Galaxy S3 Neo+ ( GT-I9301I) ?

Well this thread is dedicated about the possibilities of getting a port of ubuntu phone os. Recently displayed and would be launched around MWC 2013, Ubuntu OS will be launched for galaxy nexus! .
although there are short threads present about the topic, aim of this thread would be to provide Support/Bug-Report/F.A.Q if any port of ubuntu shows up for our phone from our great developers.
This is refreshingly new OS.
HERE IS THE LINK TO THREAD--> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2174544
I am damn sure some-one will take up this great job
Latest: Ubuntu Phone OS Porting Guide https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Touch/Porting
Some of Features of ubuntu phone:(taken from wikipedia)
OS family Unix-like
Working state Current
Source model Open source
Initial release February 2013; 30 days' time
Available language(s) Multilingual
Update method Ubuntu Software Center (+ APT, …)
Package manager dpkg

So what may be the hindrances:
What kernel version is it based on
will it require bootloader unlock ;-(
UBUNTU PHONE OS
since it is yet to be released this is an open discussion, if any developer takes this project for defy, this thread will be a F.A.Q/support/Bugreport thread (if ever it happens )
i'm here for tests.
i'm not a developer, but you guys can count with my defy+ for tests. I really would like to have ubuntu phone on my defy+.
I'd love to see Ubuntu Phone OS on Defy. First of all it's based on Android kernel so there wouldn't be much difficulty for it. The sources should be out next month. Also we'll need to find a method to dual boot with a custom kernel because it's less likely for someone to use it as a primary OS.

Will be very nice to see ubuntu working natively on ours Defy but the specification for minimal resources is beyond the possibilities of defy. So it can be ported but will be very laggy IMHO.

Not that beyond. Min specs (as stated here) only ask 4-8GB internal storage for an entry-level ubuntu phone, everything else (CPU clock, minimum RAM and multitouch capability) already cover our phone. Plus, as far as I remember (though I can easily be wrong on this, since I haven't touched an Ubuntu machine for months, now), this OS (specially considering it was specifically deployed for running on phones) doesn't take more than 2GB when installed. Again, I can be wrong, BUT... What about multiboot? A class 6 8GB card (or even a class 4, like the one included with our phones) may do the job, and we will still be able to boot CM10+ and ask silly questions to Google Now.

I may be wrong, but I think I read in more than one place it'll be available as a flashable zip. Since the folks there at Canonical were able to boot this little beauty in a Galaxy Nexus, and they intend to release the GNx version (without many workarounds needed to install) before the end of january, I think it's pretty safe to bet on a recovery-flashable zip file. Last, but not least, I think an install script (like the ones devs use in current Android flashable zips) may be slightly modified to install Ubuntu from a system image, specially if you consider Aroma-based installers are doing wonders in matter of personalizing Android installations. This not considering (and in this matter I have absolutely no idea) the possibility of the disk installer of linux distributions be already running scripts very similar to those used on Android flashable zips to install desktop OSs on computers. Devs will be better suited to tell about the latter.
P.S.: if anyone there tried Android-x86, you guys can see the installable image is very similar to an Ubuntu (or any other linux) installation zip. This might lead us in the opposite direction, looking at which modifications were made for the installer to work with Android, and reversing them for a Ubuntu installer to work in a flashable zip.

Is nice that you are very optimistic with this. I wanna be so but ... the entry level processor is a Cortex9 ! which is more powerfull than ours and Ubuntu is based on 3.4x kernel and necesitate a bigger system ROM to install (ours is ~350MB). Anyhow will wait and see and ... speculate.

It may depend on how far our devs will be able to strip down the OS for our phone, I think we may not require full fledged running desktop compatibility but it still depends by what extent we can strip down the footprint!

Hello all.
This is my first share at the Android forums:
On my first device -- Samsung Galaxy S2 - I9100 Intl. -- I have BASH shell, so I've got used to working with it so i was missing it on my second device -- LG Nexus 4 -- the installer from the market was not working on the last one...
So I've remembered seeing here a post by nubecoder saying he compiled bash 4.2.2 for android, ang gave it a shot, but it was not working as expected on my device...
I've decided to recreate it for my Nexus 4.
All credit goes to nubecoder, I've only re-created the ZIP installer.
So, I hope someone else will enjoy nubecoder (I've tested it on my device and it is working) work remake by me.
Highlights and remarks are most welcome...
If it worth a donation, PM me and I'll give my paypal donation details (I have not done it ever, so when it will be relevant, I will...)
// would love zsh
Is this a fully functional bash with plugins and whatnot?
Also, I wish 4.3 was supported.
So this is device (nexus 4) specific?
Yes it is working on 4.3

Hello,
About ZSH, I dont know... I did not compile this BASH, I've got it from other installer -- already compiled...
You may try compiling ZSH by your self, maybe it'll work (but for this you'll need the Android NDK and compiler suitable -- mybe via CygWin??).
I don't know about plugins, but it is working on my LG Nexus 4 with android 4.3, So you may as well give it a try.
ZShaolin - free version for xda-dev
Hi there,
About ZSh (version 5 now) I've just posted a light free version of ZShaolin for the XDA-DEV forums here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=47594948&postcount=7
The binary is all static (built with my own toolchain) and highly portable across ARM7 and more recent devices.
The ZShaolin full application has many more tools inside and is for sale on the Google Play market.
Hoping you find it useful, I'm happy to contribute back to this community, I've learned a lot from you guys! :^D
ciao
Does ParanoidAndroid officially support GT-I9100 and continue to develop ROMS for this device?
I do not see any updates for PA in the ROM repository and neither is it listed in PA's Device registry (G+ link below)
http://goo.im/devs/paranoidandroid/roms/
G+ Device Registry
However, I found an update 3.99 RC2 in another repository also an xda-developer
http://goo.im/devs/nims11/PA-i9100
I have tried it and it looks cool, I would just like to know if it is an official build and if so why is it not listed in any of PA's directories?
It's not currently official.
With the fresh start after the 4.4 release we will probably make a post for developers who wish to be listed as official maintainers. They would get access to upload their builds to our directories and we'll try to provide an official maintainers list (devices/developer/xda thread).

lol.. its weird.. and sad at the same time that PA offers support for I9000 but not I9100, oh well. I am very thankful to nims11 for providing the release. And thankyou for your quick response. I appreciate that.

The thing is support for these devices are voluntary. The core team builds for nexus devices and the oppo 5, these are the devices that we own. As such we rely on other developers to port builds to other popular devices. Chances are most of the unofficial builds are the same ones that become official (it's really just a title and a access to our server)
Good day sir, Please I'll like to ask if there is any rom with inter-device, I mean multiple device compatibility? If not I'll like to request for procedures to create a compatible update with my device (Tecno N3) . It has the same specifications as Samsung galaxy s2.
Thanks for your usual help.

There aren't any builds available that would work on multiple devices. While your devices basic specs may be the same as the Samsung galaxy S2, internally it could be vastly different (especially as it's not manufactured by the same company).
If you are willing to try compiling yourself, try following the guide provided here - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1863547
I can support this device need local_mainifest.xml to compile it
Hi, remaining Droid Incredible 2 community! I'm building CM11 for the Droid Incredible 2! I'm doing this because I have a one and it's kind of useless with Android Gingerbread. My current status is downloading the files from the repository. I plan on using ChillyBean's KitKat drivers here and pretty much leaving it at that. If there are any problems I'll see what I can do about them. A lot of people have already done this, but they used Dev-Host and as many reading this may already know, this happened https://www.xda-developers.com/xda-devhost/. So, I'm doing this! I'm going to make sure that this file is always available to anyone who may want it after I've finished. No promises though. I'm open to suggestions and am excited to be working with this wonderful community!
I'm currently using:

UPDATE 2023:
I could not get it to work and gave up
My phone for some reason would not give me the token that the HTCDev website needed, and my limited knowledge of Android and the old nature of the device was difficult to work around as you'd need an old operating system and old compiling software. I also really don't have time.
Found this tho: https://www.evervolv.com/devices/vivow
