Utmost help needed please.

Sorry for being noobish, just got a nexus, UK and it's on 4.0.1, been reading a lot, and very much overwhelmind, now, coming from my galaxy s2, which, I had been used to flashing and routing daily. I managed to use the toolkit, to root my phone, smashing app, will definitely donate, to the dev, as i managed to root, in pretty much 5mins. My problem is, whats the best route, to follow, in order for me to have the latest stock 4.0.4, because I have read a lot of stuff, so now muddled as to what path to take. Is it a matter, of just downloading the official rom, in the general section, and flashing it via custom recovery, sorry for the noobish questions, it's been a long day, trying to get to know the phone, am sure, if someone can help me from here, all be fine. I also tried to seek for an update, under about, but phone says am on latest firmware, which is 4.0.1,so appreciate your guidance please.

Phew cheers buddy, haven't tried this yet, as at work, will give it a short when I get home, anything easier than this please, as i just have a forbia for anything called adb please? Also, don't understand why my device is still on 4. 0. 1, been hitting the update button continously with no luck, but prepared to use other means, as suggested above, to get the device updated. Thanks again in advance.

You CAN flash factory images through the toolkit you know. You can download them at Google, put them in the correct subfolder of the GNEX toolkit folder and flash away. In order to do that you do have to have an unlocked bootloader and you will loose your root. Unlocking the bootloader will loose all your data (including under the SDCARD folder (so everything you stored will be gone)!. Rooting can be done again through the toolkit...
Or you can download a different flashable zip file that you can flash from CWM recovery.
Hmm thanks this looks more like my sort of of a thing "different flashable zip file that you can flash from CWM recovery.", were can i find this please?. Thanks.

How can i turn my Nexus 100% Stock?

I bought a used nexus its in great condition everything works but the buyer didnt tell me it was rooted already. Thats fine cause i was going to but i wanted to learn the ropes myself. So is there anyone to get back to 100% stock? He flashed a CWM too. I just want to do it myself. And is there anyway to wipe format the internal memory aswell? Thanks!
you can use this guide : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1626895
even if you don't want to convert and already have yakju or takju, this is the way you can go back to pure stock

Yup this guide is the way to go. Flash the "takju" images. There's full 4.1.1 images now too.
Thanks guys i have a usa gsm model and I guess i looked around and found out a way to wipe the internal data with those tools so i think im good and im kinda getting the hang of using the tool kit. But the phone has 4.1 i wanted to install rooted 4.1.1 is that possible? or how would i go about doing that? Thanks alot for your quick and helpful responses!

Don't use a toolkit. Follow that guide posted. That guide will wipe the device completely and put you on 100% stock 4.1.1. If you want root, you can follow the last part of the guide, which has a step-by-step routine to root also.

The tools aren't inherently bad, but they're kind of a "black box" to new users, where they put their phone in and it comes out rooted/flashed. The issue occurs when something goes wrong, and the user doesn't know why because they don't understand the procedure, and they can't reverse engineer what happened to fix it. So what they end up doing is coming and posting threads, etc.
If they were doing it the "real" (manual) way, via Fastboot, they'd know what was going on and have a better understanding of what they're doing to their phone. Because we have a Nexus, there's really no reason not to just use Fastboot because it's the tool that Google gives us. You own a ~$650 (much cheaper now w/ the Play Store, but still) device, why not spend 15 minutes learning how to work with it properly?

I can understand that and i usually do want to learn the ropes but i was kind of thrust into the middle cause i bought a used nexus and it was rooted and had CWM 6 flashed to it so I am just trying to figure things out a bit or at least go back to Full stock and no recovory flashed so i can learn the ropes myself and flash recoverys myself if needed and i want to get 4.1.1 and root it myself. If possible can i use the tools to just go to stock and then learn the manual ways from there? I got adb and the fastboot.exe finally so i never had that or new i needed it and when i first used the toolkit to wipe my sd I think it installed some drivers that the tool kit told me to which im hoping are correct. I really hate to ask questions unless its needed and i apprecieate it.

The guide that was linked earlier is extremely simple to follow. It breaks everything down step by step, and you will be fully stock.

[Q] Tutorial/Flashing Guide?

Can anyone provide a fully nooby-proofed tutorial for the entire flashing process for this awesome tablet?
I got mine some days ago, i found some infos about the rooting in google, but about the flashing I found almost nothing, except the required files for download.
I know now that there are a few ways to flash a rom, with odin, to put the device into recovery mode and with ??twrp??
Please guys could you make that ? I am sure there are also other people with the same questions here.
Thanks a lot in advance

Stuck on Samsung boot screen

I rooted my old milestone many years ago but havee been keeping my devices stock ever since, until today that is. Today I decided I wanted to try to root my Samsung SGH-I747M with Telus and everything seemed to start off smoothly. Once installed the SuperSU stopped working. I tried fixs I had read online such as updating the app, but this did not work. I read on a forum that you could flash something to disable know to help fix the problem. When I tried going this avenue I was not able to reboot my phone. I tried restoring from a backup taken before flashing, but I havent done any of this in so long im not entirely sure the backup took properly. At one point I got a message saying no OS was installed but after restoring this seemed to go away. I apparently do not remember anything about rooting from my milestone and am hoping someone may be able to help me get out of this mess. I am currently downloading the stock firmware and I think I will try flashing it tomorrow. I also was hoping someone could point me in the direction of a thread on xda that went into a more detailed explanation of how rooting works, what specifically roms and flashing all is and does. Any help is greatly appreciated.

General section is most likely the best place for that.
Here's a How-to that should get you started: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2538991
And here is the Sticky index: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1725839 Lots of good guides and info in there!

The Only problem is I already attempted to follow this and my phone will no longer boot up. Also I tried navigating through the stickies. couldn't find much info for my device. I will be trying to flash the stock firmware tonight but I want to have a clear understanding on what flashing is and what the difference is between os firmware kernel and rom and such BEFORE flashing this firmware tonight. I hope someone will be able to help.

Well that info is already in the Sticky Index. Understanding what you're doing (or about to do) is really important but you gotta start reading, it's all there.
OS, firmware and ROM are the same thing.
When your phone boots, it basically goes: Bootloaders -> Kernel -> ROM (OS).
The kernel has pretty much all the "underground" controls (RAM, Mhz, governor, scheduler, BT, Wifi, etc).
I won't write everything but those are the basics.
Also, having a Canadian variant of the S3 (that's what the M is for), doesn't change much other than flashing bootloaders and stock ROM (which you'll wanna use the Canadian variant bootloaders and Telus ROM for stock). Everything else is basically the same.

Sweet I will definitely check that out. So I did flash twrp to my phone. Is it possible that I flashed the version say for the i747 but not the m version and that is why the phone wont move past the samsung screen? Also should I attempt to get rid of twrp before flashing the stock firmware. This should answer all my questions and then I will explore the stickies some more.

If flashing a stock ROM, flash the Telus one. If flashing a custom ROM, it doesn't matter (I747 or M variant), as long as it's D2LTE.
Your recovery doesn't change anything to flashing with Odin, it will overwrite it.
Flashing the stock firmware fixed my problems. Thanks for all of your help and I will definitely be checking out the links that you sent me before trying to root again tomorrow.

Question All of my sensors (proximity anything gyro related and I don't even know what all else yet) have stopped working.

Hello I have the op9p obviously and have flashed a few different custom rims to see how id like them. Basically all that have been posted here as well as Lineage without Google. I've recently used the tool to swap from T-Mobile to EU in order to get back to a fresh start and have the latest update. Normally I just flash my modems and unlock the bootloader and everything is good to go. Bootloader is currently unlocked. I have my persistent.img backed up from back when I first started and have tried to follow the post on how to fix broken persist.img however it was for the op8 and I was unsuccessful in doing any good. I did not have much option to downgrade any farther than I was already downgraded and I'm not really sure where to go from here. I apologize because I'm sure I've left out information needed to help me out so just let me know what you need in order for me to help you help me. Thank you for your time.
