Should i reset the phone or not? - Google Pixel 2 XL Questions & Answers

Guys I've had the pixel 2xl for over a year now and i last did a clean install 5-6 months ago. I don't really have a problem with the phone with occasional drops in frame rate in some applications. I was just curious to know your views incl. pros and cons of resetting my phone and would you advice me to do it?
Thanks in advance.

I think it's a good idea to go just that every 6 months or so. But that's just me :good:

When was the last time you did it? And what changed in your experience? Interms of fluidity, battery life, previous data?
Also one more thing if i a clean install how can i get my photos back? They are already uploaded in my Google photos but i still like them to be on my phone and i had issues with it can't download every pic one by one.

I do a adb and googl backup before I do a reset. I don't really notice any battery changes, but does seem to run better. I also backup all my photos to my pc, as well as my TiBu folder for user app restoration :good:

Don't really know, I've never done that before. I find it easier to just back up my photo folders to my pc, which are also synced to my google photos folders. So after a reset, I just drag & drop my photo folders from pc to phone, and google photos already recognizes them :good:

You can also create a folders on your internal storage with a root type, or standard file manager with names like..Family, dogs, or whatever. Then drop your photos in those folders. Your gallery app, like QuickPic will pick them up, which you can then sync those folders with google photos :good:

[Q] Force Dropbox Camera Upload Sync

Does anyone know how to force the camera shots to sync to dropbox? i took some photos earlier when not on WIFI, and now I'm back on WIFI I was expecting them to sync up to dropbox (this is how it normally works). This unfortunately hasn't happened as yet automatically and I wondered if you could manual force it?
Thanks in advance.

Hmmm I guess it could be as I don't tend to leave any Apps open in the background (multitasking). I will try leaving dropbox open in the background as it would make sense I guess that if I close it the sync wont happen. I wouldn't need to leave the camera/gallery open too would I? I imagine I wouldn't.
Thanks for the advice.

Also just realised in the dropbox app I can click the folder with the arrow on the top bar. In there its showing my camera uploads saying 23 left. It says low battery, charge to resume maybe that was also the problem. Maybe it needs to be above a certain % to upload too...
Check your sync times and policies under accounts. If db is not in background services then the sync settings govern upload times

Is there any workaround?
I mean ... it is up to the user to decide if the battery is enough or not for doing something. Let's say you have just shot an important picture but you only have 19% of the battery ... well ... i would prefer to upload that single important picture rather than keeping a couple of % of battery charge.

I am glad that someone shares my thoughts about this feature of the dropbox application. However, the situation is uncaenged; still the same problem. I have noticed that also on the dropbox forum (here: https://forums.dropbox.com/topic.php?id=55044) there is a thread dealing with this. Let dropbox devs here your thoughts about this! Maybe they will fix it! :good:
SOLUTION
JUST go to your files and manually share with Dropbox.
It will upload.
Dropbox Full ?
I manually transferred the last video , and only one not to upload , to my comp and added it to Dropbox , then I saw a little red X on the Dropbox tray icon , because that file put me over the limit .

Sony Gallery App sucks

At least for me. I loved being able to snap a pic with my big camera, have the EyeFi upload it and sync it to Picasa, and have the picture in my JB stock gallery on the Nexus 4 automatically. The Sony Gallery will pull the Picasa images, but I have to manually tell it to refresh and it takes a LONG time.
Once the image is downloaded I can't share it from there, I have to download it and then go look for it and share it. It also downloads a small version of the image.
I was able to install the stock JB Gallery app but I was missing the components to sync Picasa. Still need to work on fixing that. Anyone use something that would make things better?
I don't know if this will help because it probably is quite obvious to you already, but have you tried using quickpic?

Oh that's not the way it's supposed to look? Haha. I had never used Quick Pic. It looks pretty good, but it doesn't have Picasa integration, so it doesn't add much value here.
I did find that I can pull the Picasa pictures more easily with Google +, but I still have to download them and then share them. It only shares to Google +. At least the resolution of the downloaded images is much better than what the Sony app gets and the pics are already synced when I open the app.
It looks like the Sony gallery does not use the Android sync service and pulls its own version of the images.

Edit: Installed and it works great. Now to change the default app for the camera button and disable the shutter sound (I'm also not a big fan of the Sony camera app)
Great! The only downside is that we won't be able to make use of the Bravia Engine, but oh well.

They want all of your Photos not only the ones you choose, I mean in case you want to use the sync option, which is (would be) a nice feature.
Would be very easy, I think, to add options like "Folders to sync"...."Folders to show"....and something like that, that makes the User the Owner of the Stuff
But these are Questions like, why we don't get an option to fully Access our Phones "Root" by Clickin......is all about the Money they make by Advertising "non Know Users" and so on....FTI.
We are all buying industrial Money making Machines for a lot of Bucks....because we love Tech!

Upgrade from Nexus 5 to 5X and transfer files

Hello, I recently got a Nexus 5X and am wondering what is the best way to copy all my pictures from my Nexus 5. I've tried dragging them off and pasting them onto the new phone, which does work, but the order gets all screwed up and the time created of each file is not preserved. Is there a way to copy pictures (and perhaps other files) while keeping the original timestamps?

unless you use a very wierd camera or gallery app they should stay in order, since the original timestamp is usually included in the files name. for example 'IMG_20160616_103711.jpg' was taken on 16.6.2016 at 10:37:11. so as long as they are sorted by name the files in this case (stock camera) stay in order.
does the stock photos app sort by name? i haven't been able to make that happen, or find that option.. seems just like it's random? maybe i can just delete everything and reimport while in airplane mode or something so there are no interruptions?

google photos gets instantly deactivated on all of my devices, so i am not sure on that front. it should at the very least be able to sort photos by name or the dateincludet in the images metadata (not the 'last changed' stat) though.
oh ok.. what photo app do you use then? I personally dont like the Google Photos app either, I prefer the old gallery app. Also, thanks for chiming in here!

Photo Gallery App?

I see that there is no stock gallery app on this phone. Looks like Google wants you to solely use photos. I almost don't mind, but, I'd really like to manage the pictures and videos that are saved to my phone. Does Google still have one that I can grab even with an apk online? If not, what do you guys and gals recommend?
Please and thanks!

People slam Quickpic because they got bought from some shady company but I haven't seen the app do anything bad.

I think the problem is people moving to Google phone after being with phones by LG or Samsung. Not sure when Google officially made the switch over to Photos, but it definitely was around in 2015. When I got the Nexus 6P, I noticed it didn't have a stock gallery app, so it was extremely weird for me at first.

My issue with Google Photos is that I cannot change default view to device folders. I have to swipe to select everytime I use photos app. It results in mobile data usage as default view is photos that are in cloud storage.

Well, that is true. It defaults to a 'view' mode that sorts each picture by day. However, I have the cloud feature disabled for me, so no data usage. Photos behavior has always been that 'view' mode though.

People are not blinded by this! It is the fack that you are unable to access your album's w/ 1 click & the grid style layout is favorable! And do not touch Google photos if you don't want to bring every photo in existence to your device...but you are unable to force stop & still be able to take a pic! I'll say it again... Google's ability to store & display albums is still lacking.

Question Assistance with the Oneplus 9 Pro Photos App

Last week I updated my OP9 Pro to the latest version c61. Everything works fine, but the Photos App is basically useless.
What I mean by this is when I go into the Photos App everything is "blank". When I go into file explorer and go into the DCIM of pictures folders I have I can view the thumbnail and even open up any image and view it, but if I try directly from the Photo's app it's just showing like a blank transparent black box.
I have a 2 part question.
1. Has anyone experienced this before, and if so, how did you fix it? I really don't want to wipe my entire phone because everything else works fine.
By the way I tried clearing cache storage for the app under app info and tried disabling, rebooting my phone and reenabling and no luck.
2. What is a good Photo's/Gallery replacement app to the stock one?
A few features that I would like if possible:
No ads
minimal/simple functionality (I don't really care about extensive photo editing. Really just cropping and flipping photos if necessary)
If you can hide certain gals that a plus, but not necessary
A lot of the replacement gallery/photo apps I have seen have a lot of ads and I don't want to deal with that.
Thanks in advance!
Hi, whilst I've never experienced the issue you have in question 1, have you tried to add an album? When you take a photo on your phone camera does that appear? ( Both in the camera and your gallery) as for an alternative I personally use Google photos as it just works.
Thanks for your response and sorry for the delayed response. It's a really odd glitch.
If I take a picture and open it at that moment it will display fine. Also if I go into a file manager and open it I can view it fine. But if I go into my photos app it's blank. I ended up downloading a couple other photo apps and they open up all my media fine without any issues. It's a really bazaar glitch but seems to only be with the oneplus photo app with the newest c61 update.
I'm not sure if I can remove the stock photo app from my phone because I believe it's a system app and the only option I have is to disable it, but I was thinking of trying to remove it from my phone and reinstalling it from scratch.

I mostly use the google photos app. not sure if this is an option for you, but it should check all the marks from the initial post.
Thanks, I should look at it. I'm not sure if google photos backsup your stuff by default, or you can just turn off that feature. I feel like with that feature enabled I would quickly run out of the limited space google gives you as it is so you would be forced to upgrade to get more space.

I think it is turned off by default or at least asks you.
but you can definetly turn the backup off manually.
it gives you 15gb incl. shared between google drive, gmail and photos I think.
for me this is still enough, but I also backup at my home cloud.
